Is that it, Is that all we get for our Money ? Pffft LAM

I dont blame the mods here as they only tell us what they know, however, they dont know anything either !? Its perfectly apparent that CL has no intention of giving us a working release. Since we were supposed to get WHQL drivers and working software with this release, instead we get the same beta driver, unsigned and still not working correctly. If i hadnt gotten my X-FI the minute it came out i would IMMEDIATELY return this worthless piece of plastic and metal via, airmail (Throwing it through a CL window).
As a loyal CL customer since the Old ISA cards, i am extremely unhappy with the way this company is handling this situation, if you cant get the software to work, just inform the people who have your cards and let them make an informed decision, STOP LYING TO THE PUBLIC! You people at CL are as bad as the people at Enron. If your driver development team cant do the job, then GIVE UP, stop giving your customer false hope, only to piss on their heads again. This is a joke, i mean i have had to go through the issue with CL and their driver releases for over 0 years and by far this has got to be the worse i have ever seen. Yea yea MS changed the OS, Blah Blah, you people have had month/years to get this crap running, and if i know CL you waited until the last minute even to start. Yea i know WHQL doesnt mean anything that wasnt my point. My point was the Flat out LIES being told here by CL. You say this is a place for customers to help other customers...HA YEA RIGHT !, when other forum contributors provide information you either debunk it or moderate the post or completely delete it altogether, WHAT a joke.... I am not only a customer but i run a business selling, building pc's, i have told my customers that CL is the best sound and have pretty much pushed CL products in any pc i build....Guess what....NEVER AGAIN. I will absolutely make sure that NO customer of mine ever uses another CL product, if they have one i will make sure they replace it with something that actually works. I will also place a poster in the window of my business stating that creative labs are LIARS,THIEVES, they say their cards work with Vista, and its total BS.
?I am also going to make the absolute best effort i can to get some newspaper, Television station to know this information and try to the best that i can to show the people who buy your products that you dont care about your customers, that you lie about drivers, and that overall you should never sell another product. What till i show them this forum, they will have no problem putting this information in the paper, or on the TV.
Former long time CL lover,Now CL Hater !

Sigh.
Has there ever been an announcement by Creative that development has ended for the previously announced products they will offer Vista support for?
If not, then the postings in this thread are assuming the whole thing.
Once again I remind folks that full software and driver suites that are completely new take a whole lot of time to get done. And again I'm reminded of the XP experience with nearly all soundcards at first. Pretty much it was the same story then as it is now, and Creative generously allowed public postings lambasting them on how horrible they were and that no one would ever give them a penny in business ever again.
Things worked out pretty well for Creative as far as their XP support and also the continued growth of their customer base. All the experts and most consumers flocked to Creative hardware and mostly appreciated the full software suites included that in most cases worked flawlessly and provided many tools for the user included in the price of the hardware purchase.
I suspect the same sort of thing will happen again with the new Windows Vista operating system.
What we have now is still in most cases more than owners of competitors 9x/XP period soundcards have. Most of them still have not even a beta driver of any kind, or offer much in the way of commitment other than a statement of working on things and maybe or maybe not a possibility that the hardware will get Vista driver support.
Regular releases from Creative, a user forum, and clear published documentation of what challenges they have in supporting Vista is NOT a lack of support. Rather, this is awesome support and customer communication.
Yes, I want more from my expensi've card too. But instead of ragging on the company I choose to be optimistic. They have a proven track record of supporting the latest Microsoft releases and they have offered public commitments that they are continuing to work on that same type of support for specific models of their hardware.
I'm positi've that all the crying, threats, nagging, etc, although helpful to us frustrated users to let off some steam, is not really appropriate. Good stuff has always gotten to us in the past and I am optimistic that a real nice driver/software package will be on the horizon at some point within a year or so for Vista.
Yes, it took that long for XP and so it may just take that long for Vista.

okay george, I'll try to help you
1-download yahoo messenger. save the .dmg file to your desktop or downloads, wherever your downloaded files go. Double click on it after it has downloaded and it should open up. (ah, I see-i checked out the youtube video on how to install it). then read the terms and conditions, click on agree, then drag the app (the smiley face) to the Applications folder (the square, as you call it), then it should copy it to the Applications folder. Then right or control click on the open yahoo messenger .dmg thing, and choose Eject, which should eject it into the trash. You are done installing Yahoo Messenger. click your hard drive icon on the right top of your screen and move to the Applications folder. Yahoo Messenger should be there. If you need quick access to it, or use it a lot, you can drag a copy to the dock....
Why are things so difficult? it's good to be curious, george. Might I suggest booking some time at the Apple store, or if you can afford to, pay for some one-to-one training
Using the Mac isn't difficult, but it does take some practise and getting used to

How do I update the browser on the MacBookPro?  I would like to get newer version of Safari; however, if that is not possible, is there a version of anything that I can get for MAC OS 10.5.8?

    Hi kwalker08865,
It would appear that the most recent version of Safari that is compatible with OS X 10.5.8 would be Safari 5.0.6. If this would meet your needs, you can find more information and a download link on the following page:
    Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard

  • I am using Numbers on my iPhone5 and cannot get the app to do a simple (SUM) calculation.  It shows the formula correctly in the cell, but all I get for my long list of numbers to add is 0.  How can I get this to work?

I am using Numbers on my iPhone5 and cannot get the app to do a simple (SUM) calculation.  It shows the formula correctly in the cell, but all I get for my long list of numbers to add is 0.  How can I get this to work?

Oaky, at least we got that far.  Next step is to determine if all those "numbers" are really numbers.  Changing the format to "number" doesn't necessarily change the string to a number. The string has to be in the form of a number.  Some may appear to you and me as numbers but will not turn into "numbers" when you change the formatting from Text to Number. Unless you've manually formatted the cells to be right justified, one way to tell if it is text or a number is the justification. Text will be justified to the left, numbers will be justified to the right.
Here are some that will remain as strings:
    +123
123 with a space after it.
    .123

I recently purchased the Photoshop CS5 1 yr subscription. I am partner in a start up company and I, the artist, lives in new England and my partner, who is business/marketing end, AND ALSO HAS THE NEW GRAPHIC PRINTER, lives in South Florida.  We BOTH need to use this program. Since the program was subscribed to under the business name, can she and I share the program? Or, does she HAVE to do another subscription under the co name?  Thanks.

Thanks for the answer.  I was certainly under the impression that I SHOULD be able at least 2 downloads - but I couldn't find anything in writing about it. Also, just wanted to make sure that, since it is for business and not personal use, that it's okay to have it installed in 2 different locations.  However, I guess once you think about it, a laptop is often in "a different location".
Thanks a lot.  My first question on the Adobe forums and you were helpful.

  • Upgrading a 3-node Hyper-V clusters storage for £10k and getting the most bang for our money.

Hi all, looking for some discussion and advice on a few questions I have regarding storage for our next cluster upgrade cycle.
Our current system for a bit of background:
3x Clustered Hyper-V Servers running Server 2008 R2 (72TB Ram, dual cpu etc...)
1x Dell MD3220i iSCSI with dual 1GB connections to each server (24x 146GB 15k SAS drives in RAID 10) - Tier 1 storage
    1x Dell MD1200 Expansion Array with 12x 2TB 7.2K drives in RAID 10 - Tier 2 storage, large vm's, files etc...
~25 VM's running all manner of workloads, SQL, Exchange, WSUS, Linux web servers etc....
1x DPM 2012 SP1 Backup server with its own storage.
    Reasons for upgrading:
Storage though put is becoming an issue as we only get around 125MB/s over the dual 1GB iSCSI connections to each physical server.  (tried everything under the sun to improve bandwidth but I suspect the MD3220i Raid is the bottleneck here.
Backup times for vm's (once every night) is now in the 5-6 hours range.
Storage performance during backups and large file syncronisations (DPM)
Tier 1 storage is running out of capacity and we would like to build in more IOPS for future expansion.
Tier 2 storage is massively underused (6tb of 12tb Raid 10 space)
    Migrating to 10GB server links.
Total budget for the upgrade is in the region of £10k so I have to make sure we get absolutely the most bang for our buck.
    Current Plan:
Upgrade the cluster to Server 2012 R2
Install a dual port 10GB NIC team in each server and virtualize cluster, live migration, vm and management traffic (with QoS of course)
Purchase a new JBOD SAS array and leverage the new Storage Spaces and SSD caching/tiering capabilities.  Use our existing 2TB drives for capacity and purchase sufficient SSD's to replace the 15k SAS disks.
    On to the questions:
Is it supported to use storage spaces directly connected to a Hyper-V cluster?  I have seen that for our setup we are on the verge of requiring a separate SOFS for storage but the extra costs and complexity are out of our reach. (RDMA, extra 10GB NIC's
    etc...)
When using a storage space in a cluster, I have seen various articles suggesting that each csv will be active/passive within the cluster.  Causing redirected IO for all cluster nodes not currently active?
If CSV's are active/passive its suggested that you should have a csv for each node in your cluster?  How in production do you balance vm's accross 3 CSV's without manually moving them to keep 1/3 of load on each csv?  Ideally I would like just
a single CSV active/active for all vm's to sit on.  (ease of management etc...)
If the CSV is active/active am I correct in assuming that DPM will backup vm's without causing any re-directed IO?
Will DPM backups of VM's be incremental in terms of data transferred from the cluster to the backup server?
Thanks in advance for anyone who can be bothered to read through all that and help me out!  I'm sure there are more questions I've forgotten but those will certainly get us started.
Also lastly, does anyone else have a better suggestion for how we should proceed?
    Thanks

    1) You can use direct connection to SAS with a 3-node cluster of course (4-node, 5-node etc). Sure it would be much faster then running with an additional SoFS layer (with SAS fed directly to your Hyper-V cluster nodes all reads and writes would be local
travelling down the SAS fabric and with SoFS layer added you'll have the same amount of I/Os targeting SAS + Ethernet with its huge compared to SAS latency sitting in between a requestor and your data residing on SAS spindles, I/Os overwrapped into SMB-over-TCP-over-IP-over-Etherent
requests at the hypervisor-SoFS layers). Reason why SoFS is recommended - final SoFS-based solution would be cheaper as SAS-only is a pain to scale beyond basic 2-node configs. Instead of getting SAS switches, adding redundant SAS controllers to every hypervisor
node and / or looking for expensive multi-port SAS JBODs you'll have a pair (at least) of SoFS boxes doing a file level proxy in front of a SAS-controlled back end. So you'll compromise performance in favor of cost. See:
    http://davidzi.com/windows-server-2012/hyper-v-and-scale-out-file-cluster-home-lab-design/
Used interconnect diagram within this design would actually scale beyond 2 hosts. But you'll have to get a SAS switch (actually at least two of them for redundancy as you don't want any component to become a single point of failure, don't you?)
    2) With 2012 R2 all I/O from a multiple hypervisor nodes is done thru the storage fabric (in your case that's SAS) and only metadata updates would be done thru the coordinator node and using Ethernet connectivity. Redirected I/O would be used in a two cases
only a) no SAS connectivity from the hypervisor node (but Ethernet one is still present) and b) broken-by-implementation backup software would keep access to CSV using snapshot mechanism for too long. In a nutshell: you'll be fine :) See for references:
    http://www.petri.co.il/redirected-io-windows-server-2012r2-cluster-shared-volumes.htm
    http://www.aidanfinn.com/?p=12844
    3) These are independent things. CSV is not active/passive (see 2) so basically with an interconnection design you'll be using there's virtually no point to having one-CSV-per-hypervisor. There are cases when you'd still probably do this. For example if
you'd have all-flash and combined spindle/flash LUNs and you know for sure you want some VMs to sit on flash and others (no so I/O hungry) to stay within "spinning rust". One more case is many-node cluster. With it multiple nodes basically fight for a single
LUN and a lot of time is wasted for SCSI reservation conflicts resove (ODX has no reservation offload like VAAI has so even if ODX is present its not going to help). Again it's a place where SoFS "helps" as having intermediate proxy level turns block I/O into
file I/O triggering SCSI reservation conflicts for a two SoFS nodes only instead of an evey node in a hypervisor cluster. One more good example is when you'll have a mix of a local I/O (SAS) and Ethernet with a Virtual SAN products. Virtual SAN runs directly
as part of the hypervisor and emulates high performance SAN using cheap DAS. To increase performance it DOES make sense to create a  concept of a "local LUN" (and thus "local CSV") as reads targeting this LUN/CSV would be passed down the local storage
stack instead of hitting the wire (Ethernet) and going to partner hypervisor nodes to fetch the VM data. See:
    http://www.starwindsoftware.com/starwind-native-san-on-two-physical-servers
    http://www.starwindsoftware.com/sw-configuring-ha-shared-storage-on-scale-out-file-servers
(feeding basically DAS to Hyper-V and SoFS to avoid expensive SAS JBOD and SAS spindles). The same thing as VMware is doing with their VSAN on vSphere. But again that's NOT your case so it DOES NOT make sense to keep many CSVs with only 3 nodes present or
    SoFS possibly used.
    4) DPM is going to put your cluster in redirected mode for a very short period of time. Microsoft says NEVER. See:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh758090.aspx
    Direct and Redirect I/O
Each Hyper-V host has a direct path (direct I/O) to the CSV storage Logical Unit Number (LUN). However, in Windows Server 2008 R2 there are a couple of limitations:
For some actions, including DPM backup, the CSV coordinator takes control of the volume and uses redirected instead of direct I/O. With redirection, storage operations are no longer through a host’s direct SAN connection, but are instead routed
through the CSV coordinator. This has a direct impact on performance.
CSV backup is serialized, so that only one virtual machine on a CSV is backed up at a time.
In Windows Server 2012, these limitations were removed:
    Redirection is no longer used.
CSV backup is now parallel and not serialized.
    5) Yes, VSS and CBT would be used so data would be incremental after first initial "seed" backup. See:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399619.aspx
    http://itsalllegit.wordpress.com/2013/08/05/dpm-2012-sp1-manually-copy-large-volume-to-secondary-dpm-server/
I'd look at some other options. There are few good discussion you may want to read. See:
    http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1209963

  • How do I sort so that all the songs for a particular album show up under only one album? Example:  Eminem 'Encore'  has multiple artists on the entire track list.

Example:  Eminem 'Encore'  has multiple artists on the entire track list.  Several songs will just list Eminem as the artist, but a lot will have Eminem, FEATURING...so and so.  Each song that has "FEATURING" shows up as a different album, so if you are not paying attention, and pull all the songs from a particular album over to your ipod, for example, and you don't see that not all the songs are there, you won't get them all to transfer.
Is there anyway to correct this?

Each tune gets a file name - that is how iTunes works. iTunes is a data base manager.
In a PlayList a reference is created that will link to a specific tune.
You can take the tunes that you do not want listed under a particular album name and change the album name using 'Get Info' for that tune(s) from the iTunes window.

I can access the Fitbit website and my account through Safari. i can also access the Fitbit website and my account through my iphone. The problem appears to be something specific between my firefox and Fitbit.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
You should be able to fix this by clearing Firefox's cookies and cache. Here's how:
#Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and click History button, and then Clear Recent History... .
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Let me know how it goes,

  • Can to setup Xserve to process all Mac requests for our AD enviornment...

I want to setup one of our XServe to be the directory controller for all of our Mac clients, which the XServe would then pass on to our AD server. Would also like that server to allow searching of Directory Users for iChat, etc. How can I set a system up to basically look like an OD server, but authenticate to our AD server, and also provide directory services to applications like an iChat server?
This system would NOT be pointed to by any PC's. We currently employ about 1300 users, and have about 200 Macs in the building. They want a seemless portal for the Macs in AD. Suggestions, tips, etc? Currently running 10.5.4 on all of our XServes.

  • Bought a refurbished Macbook without operating system.  Trying to get an OS installed but all I get is a white screen??  HELP!

I purchased a refurbished Macbook pro without operating system.
This is my first Mac, but have heard they are very simple and much more intuitive than Windows,
I've had the machine for three weeks now, and it's been nothing more than a paperweight!!
A friend said he had his old install disks, which happened to be exactly what google said I needed to start out as: version 10.5
When I boot holding the OPTION button down, I get two options. Windows (with an up arrow below it) and Mac OS x Install Disk 1 (with an up arrow below it).
I can move the mouse, and move the cursor with my arrow keys, to select either Windows or Mac OS install. The problem is - if I select the Mac OS install,
the disk starts up (I can hear it), but it never does anything. I can no longer move the mouse / cursor after selecting it.  It will stay for hours like this with no progress.
On the disk itself, it says MAC OS version 10.5. This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not be sold separately.
It also says: to start up from Mac OS x, hold down the C key as the computer starts up. When I do that, all I get is a gray screen.
I've also tried the shift key when starting up (supposed to be safe mode?) but same thing - gray screen.
The only way to even eject the disk (scared the heck out of me) is to start up holding the OPTION button.
If I select WINDOWS after using the OPTION button, I get an IBM message:
IBM Secure Data Disposal Utility 2.0
    IBM Remote Deployment Manager 4.1
Date and time of execution...7/24/12 18:01:22
    Command executed................A:\SCRUB3.EXE /d=all /l=2
    Return code...............................0
I assume this is what they used to wipe the hard drive before sending...
Obviously I am Apple-illiterate, but I've spent days going through chat rooms, etc. and came up with nothing.
At this point, I suspect either:
    1) The machine is junk and needs to be returned OR
    2) The disks are bad and/or can't be used for a clean install
I don't want to waste money buying a brand new OS, only to find out that the machine is bad.
    Any thoughts??

That model originally shipped with a special Intel version of Tiger. You should be able to install any retail version of Leopard or later. I would recommend you start with Snow Leopard. Snow Leopard requires a minimum of 1 GB of RAM. If you have 2 GBs of RAM then you could install Lion or Mountain Lion.
You can purchase Snow Leopard from Apple's online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.] Ask for a Sales Representative.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
    When you receive the DVD:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    7. When completed quit DU and return to the installer. Complete the Snow Leopard installation.

  • Hi, I cant open a document I have been working on. It has previously been saved without a problem now all I get is a box stating that the file cannot be opened. Any suggestions please?

Hi, I reecntly purchased a Mac and the Pages App. But now I find that I cant open a document I have been working on. It has previously been saved without a problem now all I get is a box stating that the file cannot be opened. It is visible in both the Pages Windows and under Recent Items but just will not open. Any suggestions please?

    Hi Colourdoodles,
Maybe the document is corrupted. Can you open other Pages documents? Preview may open it. Right click (or control click) on the document in Finder and Open With > Preview.
If that works, Edit > Select All, Edit > Copy. Then paste into a blank Pages document. Formatting may be messed up, but you will have editable text. Then Save (with a different name), close and see if you can open the new document.
    Regards,
    Ian
