If you purchase the phone at the full contract price and have no term left on your carrier contract, the carrier will unlock it for you. That's what I am doing with AT&T. I'll pay the full purchase price for the phone and since I don't have a contract with them, they will unlock it for you. It can be difficult to get it done since most of their customer service is very ill informed but I have had many discussions with them on their chat that I have records of them stating they will unlock any phone if you do not have an existing contract. It's the law.

  • Is there an adapter that lets you use iPhone earbuds with an iMac?

I have big heavy uncomfortable headphones with a mic that I use for gaming on my iMac.
I'd rather use the earbuds from my iPhone.
Is there an adapter that lets you use iPhone earbuds with an iMac?

I got the splitter, (see link below), but the mic does not seem to work. Apparently, there's a difference between a mic port and a line-in port. Mic ports are powered by the computer, line-in ports are not. They expect a powered signal to come from the input device. The iMac has a line-in port.
I downloaded an app called Line-in that is supposed to give back the ability to use unpowered mics with Macs that lost the abiliy after a system update. It did not work for me. I guess my iMac never had the ability to use unpowered mics.
So I ordered the USB Stereo Audio Adapter below. It's basically a sound card that plugs into a USB port and will work with an unpowered mic. It has not arrived yet. I'll let you know how it goes.

There is an international warranty on the Mac, but not on the iPhone...iPhone warranties are tied to the country of purchase.  Iphone 5s are currently only available in the US tied to a carrier, you cannot use another nano-sim card in them.

  • Possible to use iPhone as external webcam with Sky...

I've got a mac running OSX 10.9.5, and an iPhone 5s running 8.1.2. Are there any iOS apps that allow you to (successfully) use your iphone as a webcam for Skype for Mac?
I say "successfully" because I've tried a number of suggested ones, and they don't work:
EpocCam by Kinoni - Skype won't recognize it as a video source
WebCamera by SHAPE GmbH/Mobiola WebCamera (same thing) - Skype won't recognize it as a video source
PocketCam by Senstic - Skype actually DOES recognize it as a video source, but there is a multi-second time lag in the video, so it's worse than having no video.
I even tried installing Skype 2.8 on my Mac (recommended in some posts on this forum), but was unable to get it to connect to the Skype network.
Anyone had any luck with any iOS apps?

Everything I had read so far says it's not possible.
What you have read is correct.
    Anyone have any insight?
The iPhone simply does not have the Bluetooth profiles required to allow this.

  • Possible to use iPhone headset mic on 2006 Intel Mac Pro?

Does anyone know if it's possible to get the iPhone headset working on a 2006 Intel Mac Pro? Or, are there any adapters that would allow the headset to work? I'd like to use Skype on this machine, but I don't want to have to have a clunky full-on headset for it.
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

    No,
Or, are there any adapters that would allow the headset to work?
    No.
    Look for USB headsets.

  • Pc reinstalled. Is it possible to use Iphone to syncronise to Itunes?

I had to have mij laptop reinstalled. Therefore mij Itunes is now empty. The Iphone of course not. Is it possible to copy al app from to phone to the laptop? So actually the syncronise the other way around.....

The sync process for iTunes content is a one way transfer process only - from your iTunes library on your computer to your iPhone. After purchasing/downloading iTunes content with your iPhone - music, video, or a 3rd party app, the content will be transferred to your iTunes library on your computer with the first sync with iTunes after doing so.
You didn't include your iTunes library with your computer's backup along with all other important data on your computer's hard drive before re-installing Windows?
If not, iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
First you need to re-authorize your computer with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
If a 3rd party app does not transfer, you can re-download the app with iTunes on your computer and you won't be charged again for a purchased app as long as you use the same iTunes account to re-download the app that was used to purchase the app originally.

  • Is it possible to use iPhone as a hard disk?

I want to know if there is a way to transfer files to the iPhone, such .ppt and such and use part of the memory as a usb stick or hard disk to carry information? In that case, how can I make it appear in the finder of my computer?
    Thanks.

Check the App Store for applications like AirSharing, Files, and DataCase.
Note that due to limitations in the SDK, all such applications use WiFi to transfer from PC to iPhone (some may use cellular data to connect to cloud storage, but none can use USB to connect directly to your PC).

  • Possible to use iPhone on GSM and CDMA networks?

If I have a SIM for one of the iphones that supports versions of both CDMA and GSM, could I actually switch between, say, Verizon in the US and foreign networks wihile overseas?

The only phones you can use on Verizon's network are ones that were originally sold as "Verizon" phones. This is true of, as far as I know, all CDMA carriers. Verizon will unlock the GSM side of an iPhone 4S for international use for their own customers. Other CDMA carriers have other policies. The Verizon iPhone 5 and later are unlocked and will work on any GSM network.
An unlocked phone purchased from the Apple Store will not work on a CDMA carrier.

  • Possible to use iPhone without i-applications?

My sister and her partner have just purchased new iPhones but only have a G4 that does not meet Leopard specifications.  I know with non-Apple supported devices such as mp3 players I can have been able to plug them in and have them appear as flash storage media and manually copy files. As long as I make sure they go the right places they work.  Is it possible to circumvent the need for new iTunes, iPhoto, etc. and get files onto an iPhone without all the "synching" business?  Personally I'm advocating my girlfriend away from getting an iPhone because of the stringent system requirements for supporting hardware, but these phones ar alrady purchased.
I know they could try e-mailing files and transfer them that way, but that's a bit cumbersome if you're trying to copy 1000 mp3s.

Did a bit of research and the answer is yes and no.  Actually "yes", as I suspected you can do some things without iTunes.  A web search of "put files on iphone without iTunes" gets the usual 8 million hits, but there are some such as http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/6-ways-to-sync-music-to-your-iphone-without-itunes/  The "no" is that most methods require Windows, or are not easy (not an issue for me but for the owners of the phones it would be).
I think I have come up with the answer on my own which is it is possible but not feasible.

  • Can I Turn off iMessage in a group text with multiple people with different devices? There's 1 person in the group text that doesn't use iPhone anymore and they can't see any messages that are sent unless we send as regular text individually.

Is there a way to turn off iMessage for a group text that includes multiple people with different non-apple devices? When a message is sent, only the iPhone users can see the iMessage. Those without them cannot see the texts unless we send individual Text Messages or turn off iMessage completely.

now I have this and it still doesn't work.

If you are experiencing issues updating your iOS device wirelessly, I would recommend updating via iTunes on your computer.

  • Using iPhone's assisted GPS equals high data roaming fees?

    Consider the following setup:
I buy an simlock-free iPhone 3G S in Brussels, Belgium for €512. I purchase the TomTom navigational iPhone application on the App Store so that I don't have to rely on an expensive Belgian mobile provider to get continuous access to Google Maps. I use this iPhone with a standard voice+data plan.
Suppose I drive a 300 km south to Paris, France. I use my iPhone with the TomTom app to negotiate the Parisian roads.
Question: will the GPS unit of my (future) iPhone 3G S be able to find its position on its own without relying on a paid data connection? (even if it takes a while)

To answer your question, yes it will work. (Just may take more time to acquire sats, like a normal GPS.) Also, I just tried it by removing my SIM and turning off Wifi.
What Ian said is not quite correct. Assisted GPS does use the network connection and uses either the cell towers or wifi access points (Skyhook.com has more info) to locate you. It uses the SSID of these wifi networks whether or not they are password protected, but needs to exchange this data with Apple/skyhook to figure out where you are, and it does this over a network connection (or wifi, I believe.)

  • Use iphone to coneect a laptop to the internet

Is it possible to use iphone to connect a laptop to the internet?
In other words is it possible to use the iphone as an access point?

Just an update about cost (really triggered by another interrelated post “Transfer files to iphone over usb (no wifi) then mail them...”)
In Greece Vodafone allows data exchange from tethering as part of the main data package which you get if you want with a subscription. There are various packages, currently one for 500MB extended to 1GB for the 1st year costs around 5€. That's actually added to the main phone package, so for about 40-50€ / month you have about 3 hours talk time + the 500MB/1GB data.
Don’t know whether you consider that as expensive or not.
Actually, before discovering tethering I never went beyond the 200MB in a month without considering the extent of internet usage. Tethering won’t really make any difference in the data exchange volume since my intention is to use it in emergency situations anyway.
