Is the 3 TB AirPort Time Capsule compatible with PC?

I'm in the process of converting over to Mac from PC and I need to transfer all my files (over 2 TB worth) from my Sea Gate external harddrive to an Apple compatible one.  If I buy a Time Capsule first, is it possible to hook it up to my laptop (PC - Toshiba) to get everything from the other external harddrive?

Yes you can transfer your files between drives.
Better still, if the Seagate external drive supports USB, you can also just connect the drive to the USB port on the Time Capsule. Most likely, you will need to reformat this drive if it currently formatted in NTFS to HFS+ if you go this route.

  • Is the new AirPort Time Capsule compatible with a fibre optic modem?

I will be having fibre optic set up in my new home.  The new AirPort Time Capsule states that it si able to connect to cable or DLS modem for internet access.  Will I be able to connect this device to a modem designed for fibre optic internet?
    Many thanks

Yes. All it needs is a modem (cable, fiber, satellite, DSL) with an Ethernet output (not USB).

  • Will the wifi function of time capsule interfere with my existing router?

Will the wifi function of time capsule interfere with my existing home network via my Cisco router?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The routers will only interfere if they are working with the same channel. Time Capsule sets up automatically the channel, so you shouldn't have any problem with both routers

  • How do I make airport time capsule work with Linksys cisco router?

    Hi all.
I bought an airport time capsule 3T and want to connect it to the internet, using a macbook with OS X 10.9.2. Currently I am using a Linksys Cisco router model WAG54G2.
I followed the steps of the setup airport guide: Connected the WAN port of the airport with an ethernet port on the router, plugged in the power cable, filled in the internet username and password. In Airport Utility I can see the airport and the internet icon, both with green dots most of the time. But it seems to disconnect every minute or so, green dots turning orange and the status light on the airport flashing orange. The internet light on the linksys also goes on and off. When the internet is on, it is quite slow.
    Advice is welcome!
    Kees

No guarantees here. AirPort Utility 6.3.1 is a big drop down from the 5.x versions in Leopard and Snow Leopard.
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule for 9-10 seconds and release
Allow a full minute for the TC to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the screen and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear. Just below that, click on Time Capsule.
The example below shows an AirPort Express. You will see Time Capsule.
As soon as you click on the Time Capsule, AirPort Setup will open up automatically and take a minute to analyze the network....and probably suggest that the Time Capule will be configured to "extend"....which is wrong.
Click the Other Options button at the lower left
Click Add to an existing network
Next to Connect To.....select the wireless network name from the drop down list....if it appears. Otherwise type in the exact name of the wireless network.
    Click Next
Confirm any settings again and wait to see if AirPort Utility 6.3.1 will allow the Time Capsule to join the wireless network.
You have about a 1 in 5 chance that this will occur.
    Post back on your results.

  • Will a AirPort Time Capsule work with Yosemite?

I need to replace my external backup and also need to boost my Verison DSL signal (which is the fastest network that services our rural area).   I recently upgraded to Yosemite and I'm considering an AirPort Time Capsule.   Have all of the bugs/glitches with Yosemite and AirPort been resolved?

The current version of the Time Capsule will be 2 years old in a few months, and Apple traditionally introduces new products in June, so if you are not in a big rush, it might pay to wait to see what improvements will be offered in the newer version.
There will likely be a few more updates coming for Yosemite in the next few months to help address current issues.  Remember that it took 3-4 updates for the previous operating system.....Mavericks.....before things seemed to settle down.
As far a "boosting" your current network is concerned, a new product will not allow any faster connection than your current plan will allow, so that might be yet another reason to hold on for awhile, to see if your provider might be offering a faster connection plan in the near future.

  • Is there a way to make the Time Capsule compatible with the iBook Clamshell (2000 not 1999)?

We upgraaded our router to the new time capsule over christmas break and it works great but our old ibook clamshell doesnt work with it. is says an error has occured when i try to connect to it.
Is there someway to connect the Clamshell?
    Thanks!

What type of security is defined for your wireless network?  I may be wrong, but I don't believe that the AirPort Card supports anything better than the very weak WEP encryption.  It also only works on the 2.4 GHz band.  I'm presuming you configured the Time Capsule to support that band.

  • Is the time capsule compatible with thunderbolt?

Thinking of getting a new iMac for Xmas and the 3 TB Time Machine with builtin router. My question is can I connect the new Time Machine to my Mac via the thunderbolt port and access my data even faster?

Gigabit ethernet is way faster than the data can be streamed off the hard disk. Typical hard disk speed can be seen in the review here.
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/4577/airport-extreme-5th-gen-and-time-capsule-4th- gen-review-faster-wifi-/7
Just over 80MB/s is well within gigabit capability.

  • Is the time capsule compatible with a wireless printer

I am trying to use my HP wireless printer with the time capsule. It is not working. Is it compatible?

    Yes, it should be ok..
BUT the rest of the WORLD speaks SMB.. as in fact does iOS.. and so you need to make things look nice to SMB.. in other words windows type networking.
By default the TC seems to end up with names which are wrong..
Use short names with no apostrophe.. or any other special character.. pure alphanumeric.. no spaces..
Passwords also .. nothing more than 20 characters.. names do not need to be long, 8-12 pure alphanumeric is plenty.
eg I name my TC.. TC
    Name 2.4ghz wireless, TC24ghz
Name 5ghz wireless TC5ghz (I recommend this to keep them separate and prevent auto swapping)
Lock the channel (This is optional but I find helps stability.. mainly for 2.4ghz.. there are three channels.. 1, 6, 11) Try each channel in turn.
Plug the printer into the computer by usb and run through the setup.
Put the wireless into infrastructure mode and put in the wireless name and security settings and passkey.
Complete the printer setup wizard and then disconnect the usb.. it might well be a good idea to restart everything.. Make sure the printer is in a position where there is good wireless signal.
Now what I found happens is the printer driver is confused by the fact you had it plugged in by usb. So see if the printer is accessible now.. if not delete the printer and start again.. it should pick it up now as a network printer.
I don't know what model printer you have so to get all the specifics right read the instructions.. You know that old saying.. when all else fails.. and after you post on the forum.. actually read the instructions.

  • It´s Time Capsule compatible with 10.7.2 Mac OsX Lion and iOS5?

Hi. I want to buy Time Capsule of 2TB but.. it is compatible with Mac OSX Lion MacBook Pro Middle 2009 and with my iPhone 4 iOS5?

As far as backing up your Mac, yes it is. Time Capsule serves no purpose as far as backup for the iPhone though. It will give the iPhone a wireless signal though, using dual band technology. iPhone backups must be done through iTunes or iCloud.

  • Will the latest 2 TB Time Capsule work with Windows 7

I purchased a latest 2 TB Time Capsule
My computer Engineer says, it will not work with my Windows 7 PC.
He says I should purchase a Mac computer for using it
My aim is to have some important files, movies and music files in it and use it as
    my  iPad accessory.
    Kindly let me know

    Your computer engineer needs demoting..
The TC is SMB compliant when setup properly.
Press reset 10sec and redo the setup.
Download and install airport utility for windows. That will also install bonjour which helps things along.
Rename the TC and wireless names to short, no spaces pure alphanumeric characters.
    eg TC name.. TCgen4
    2.4ghz wireless name.. TC24ghz
5ghz wireless name.. TC5ghz (set the 5ghz name different on the advanced wireless page).
    Lock wireless to a/n - b/g
Lock wireless channels to 1, 6, or 11 as the only 3 non-overlapping channels.
On the disk page.. set the guest account to on with read and write permissions.. that makes life a bit easier. Obviously if security is a problem don't do it.. but TC is a home device.. and is so easy to hack into it is a joke.. so setting high security is seldom of value.
Make sure the workgroup is set correctly .. by default WORKGROUP.
Note the IP of the TC .. generally 10.0.1.1 and if it is running as the main router to the network, you can now open the TC via windows explorer by typing the ip or the TC name in the address bar thus.
\\TCgen4 or \\10.0.1.1 (Obviously if you use different name or IP then replace with those.)
To access the TC from ipad you need a file browser app.. just look it up.. the ipad does not actually natively work with the TC.. so ipad is actually more of an issue than windows.
Also note carefully .. there is no backup mechanism to save stuff on the TC.. it is a backup target not a NAS. It is made for Time Machine on a Mac not for storing files. They are also not exactly reliable. It is sealed.. there are no spare parts.. if it dies, apple will replace not fix it. And they tend to have a short life. If you trust your files to it.. one day they will all be gone.. make sure you back it up or only keep copies of files on it.

Wanted to use it with Apple and PC products.  Was wondering if there is a program one can get to use Time Capsule with the PC side of the house?

If you are asking about a backup program here, you might want to take a look at Genie TimeLine Pro, which is similar to Time Machine.

  • Time capsule compatible with Plusnet Wireless...?

    Hi there
I am thoroughly confused - my home wifi comes from Plusnet Wireless and al I want to know is ... will the Time Capsule work on Plusnet?
    Cheers!

Does the Plusnet router have ethernet.. if so plug the TC WAN port to the LAN port of the router.. and set the TC up in bridge mode.
If the Plusnet is wireless only your doomed!!
TC can join a wireless network but it is really poor.
So please explain and we can work from there.

  • Cannot see NAS units after upgrading to Airport Time Capsule.

I just upgraded my router from a D-link DIR 655 to a new Airport Time Capsule and I cannot no longer see access my Drobo NAS units.
    http://www.drobo.com/products/professionals/drobo-fs/
I am using Mountain Lion OS 10.8.5.  I know when using OS 10.8.5 I have to ensure that DDServiced and DDServiced64 are Allowed.  I have done this in the routers settings.
    http://store.apple.com/ca/product/ME177AM/A/airport-time-capsule-2tb
I cannot see the NAS units on my PC (Windows) either.
My internet works (wirelessly and physicall) so the router is connecting to my modem correctly.  However I cannot access these NAS units nor their shared holders on any comptures or wireless devices in my house.
Is the Airport Time Capsule the issue here?  Is it compatible with the Drobo FS NAS?
    Thanks

I am running the latest version of Drobo Dashbloard on both my Mac and PC 2.5.2.
I only see DDServiced64 under Apple Symbol to top left of Menu\System Preference\Security and Privacy\Firewall\Firewall Options.
Given that I cannot see the Drobos on either my Mac or PC I am wondering if:
    1) is the new Apple Airport Time Capsule causing problems; or
    2) is the Norton Antivirus that is on my PC conflicting with a setting on the Apple Airport Time Capsule
None of this was a problem when I used the previous router (D-link DIR 655).  I could access both Drobos on both my Mac (wirelessly) and PC (physically connected to the the same router as Drobos via network cables).
When I was using my D-link DIR 655 I was using DCHP and using static IP Addresses for all my devinces in my house.  Now when I changed my router over to the Apple Airport Time Capsule I did not opt to use DCHP.  Could this be an issue.  Note I am not having any problem with any of the other wireless devices in my house.  I can see all my Sonos wireless music equipment.  However I cannot see the two Drobos that are physically connected to my Apple Airport Time Capsule.
    Thanks

  • How to configure Airport Time Capsule with IP Camera?

I have recently switched from a DLINK Router (DIR-655) to the latest 3TB Airport Time Capsule. The ATC works great, super fast etc...
    However...
I had an IP Camera (Trendnet TV-IP572-WI) connected to my DLINK Router, using a Dynamic DNS account (dyndns) to access if from outside my home (i.e. from the Internet). The configuration on the DLINK was quite straightforward. (Virtual Server)
Question: How to do the same with Airport Time Capsule ?  I had a look at the detailed settings menu in the Airport Configuration Utility. but cannot find anything like this (Virtual Server, Port Forwarding etc...)
Many thanks for your help !

What is the make and model number of your "modem"?
Most modems these days are actually modem/routers or gateway devices....which would require that the port forwarding be done on the "modem"....not on the Time Capsule.
If you did not see any settings for DHCP Reservations and Port Settings when you looked around in AirPort Utility, this indicates that the Time Capsule is likely configured to operate in Bridge Mode.......and it is your "modem" that is actually the router for the network.
Open up AirPort Utility again, click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Network tab at the top of the window
Check the setting for Router Mode.......which is likely set to "Off (Bridge Mode)"
    Is it?

  • Airport Time capsul or Linksys wrt1900 + external HDD?

I Need to get a new wifi and also back up device. I currently have the old flat airport time capsule. I live in a 3 story house made from steel frame. So my wifi is not strong at all. I also use a small express to extend the wifi. But still bad.
I Have been reading about the below wifi router and they say it is quite powerful and even good for multiple story homes.
    Linksys WRT1900AC Dual Band Smart Wi-Fi Wireless AC Router (2.4 + 5GHz)
IF I got this and an external HDD the cost is about the same.  Anyone have any experience with linksys?   I would prefer the apple one but I just want to improve my wifi throughout the house.

I would spend a bit of time in the charts and actual reviews here.
    http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/tools/charts/router/bar/111-2_4-ghz-dn-c?see=P_D
There is a lot of info which you can get the charts to show you.. various location.. different bands etc.
However the tests are done on PC clients and PC wireless cards.. and you are not going to get the same results in Apple products..
As with most of these things.. wireless promises much but delivery is always less than expectation.
I would doubt any single wireless router can cover adequately a 3 storey house.
I can also tell you support for Time Machine will be sorely lacking even if it is listed.. these routers cannot format the disk HFS+, so they will be different and no where near reliable for TM.
It is much better to plan on running an ethernet connection between the 3 floors in some central location if that is at all possible.. and to run 3x wireless AP around the house.. if that is not possible then proper wireless mesh gear will perform much better than domestic stuff.. so look at ubiquiti unifi etc.
Linksys new products since being sold by Cisco and taken over by Belkin have been a disappointment.
Asus has tended to be the preferred units.. and do seem to work well with apple devices.
