Is the 802.11n 1st generation a dual band router?

Is the 802.11n 1st generation a dual band router?

Yes, but not simultaneously I think.  If you look at the tech specs (http://support.apple.com/specs/#airport) for the Airport Extreme, the 1st and 2nd generation all say "2.4GHz or 5GHz" while the 3rd generation and up say "2.4GHz and 5GHz simultaneously".

  • No chance for a Firmware Update for my AirPort Express 802.11n (1st Generation) with The AirPort app in my ipad 4. can anybody help me?

    Hi Folks,
I wanted to re-activate my First Generation AirPort Express to Stream Music in another room. Unfortunatelly i cant Update The Firmware of the first gen airport express with my AirPort App on The ipad 4.
For my online Access i use The AirPort Express newset Generation Woche Works pretty well.
What can i do to use The Old AirPort Express for AirTunes purposes only?
Thanks in advance for your advices,
    Daniel

when im searchin for available wifi connections in my house, there is a "AirPort Express e55137" Hardware. When i click on it it sais, i cant configure the Base Station with the Software on the ipad
This tells me that you do not have a 1st Gen AirPort Express. If you did, you would be able to configure the Express with the iPad.
If you have AirPort Utility 5.6 or AirPort Utility 5.6.1 on your MacBook, you can configure the Express using the MacBook.
If you have AirPort Utility 6.x on your MacBook, then you will not be able to configure the Express unless you try a workaround to install an older version of AirPort Utility on your MacBook.

  • How to setup ADSL moden router and Airport Express 802.11n (1st Generation) to provide internet and airplay connections to multiple devices?

I have a Netgear wireless ADSL modem router (wireless + four ethernet out ports)  that i'd like to connect to a 1st gen Airport Express to create a small home network to provide internet access for a MacBook, iPhone and Apple TV, and to provide Airplay connection to the Apple TV and Airport Express audio output jack.
I'd like to turn off the wireless function of the ADSL modem router, and to have from one of its ethernet out ports an ethernet cable providing internet directly connected to my MacBooks ethernet port.
Then from one of the other ethernet outs on the ADSL modem router an ethernet cable connected to the Airport Express's ethernet port. This would be to provide wireless internet connection for the Apple TV and iPhone via WiFi from the AE.
At the same time as the MacBook is receviing internet soley via the ethernet in port, i'd like it to have WiFi connection to the AE to provide Airplay connection to the Apple TV and the AE's audio out jack.
Is this all possible? How should I go about to configure this? How should the AE's ethernet port be configured?
Any special modes the ADSL modem router or Airport Express should be in? ie bridge or client?
    Thanks

On the ADSL modem router web-based interface, should I set any security setting? I think not as there'll be no wireless signal coming from it, only wired ethernet connections to both MacBook and AE. Security should only be set on the AE to prevent someone from accessing its WiFi signal. Is this assumption correct?
    These are all correct!
How should I go about setting up security for this network?
First I would recommend that you configure the AirPort Express for WPA2 Personal. This will provide you with the greastest level of security while still providing excellent bandwidth performance.
You would configure wireless security for the Express by using the AirPort Utility on a Mac, PC, or iOS device. Using your MacBook Pro as an example, you would do so as follows:
    Run the AirPort Utility.
Select the Express, and then, click on Edit.
Select the Wireless tab to enable it.
Set the Wireless Security option to: WPA2 Personal
Enter the desired password in both the Wireless Password & Verify Password fields. Note: Use of a "strong" password is encourage here. By strong, I mean use a mix of upper/lowercase letters, numbers, & punctuation marks. Try not to use common dictionary words. If you operate your wireless in an area where security is of an utmost concern, I would further suggest that you change the wireless security password every 60-90 days. Also don't forget to change the default AirPort Base Station Administrator password as well.
Click on Update and allow the Express to restart.

  • AirPort Express 802.11n (1st Generation) - Set up

Hello - What would be the best way to set up the following AirPort Expresses:
1 x Time Capsual connected to Modem
1x AirPort Express in Lounge which I connect to my Freeview Box (PVR) via Ethernet Cable (I would still like to use /boost the Wireless signal if this be possible).
1 x Airport Express in upstairs office connect to my Mac via Ethernet Cable (I would still like to be able to boost the Time Capsual Wireless signal should this be possible).
I have tried different configirations and read through the forums but I going wrong somewhere.
    Thank you

I am up and running, but prior to lossing all my settings I could switch the Wireless off on my MBP then use an Ethernet Cable to connect it up my AirPort Express (AE is linked Wirlessly to the TC)
Now this won't work, with the wirleless switched off I can no longer get a connection via Ethernet
    Any ideas?

  • How to configure AirPort Express 802.11n (1st generation) in OS X 10.7.5

I have an old Airport axpress and cannot configure it anymore since I updated to OSX 10.7.5.
Can somebody explain how I can fix this?
    Greets

    Contact the softwareproducer.
    That would be Apple.
If you are sure that you have downloaded the correct version of AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion and you continue to see this error message, you will likely need to re-install the Lion operating system on your Mac.
Contact Apple Support first, before you attempt this.

  • TC 802.11n (1st generation) unreliable ethernet

My older TC is proving annoying on my ethernet connection.  It is frequently unresponsive, yet the wireless connection works fine.  I have to reboot it by unplugging the power to get the ethernet connection to work.  Then a few days later it quits again.  Could the problem be my ethernet cable?  I thought not as would rebooting fix a cable problem?
My ethernet connection is to an iMac running OSX 10.8.2.  TC software is 7.6.1.

This is not an ethernet hardware level problem.. it is a Mountain Lion networking issue..
Just check the connectivity led is still green on the TC.. even if ML cannot find it.
Open a terminal in the computer and ping the TC by name and by IP address. It should still respond. It is just ML has forgotten how to connect. It is not an issue you can fix by any means I know. It is a bug.

  • NetGear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR 3400

    Hi all,
My neighbor and I (Sarah) both live on the second floor of a circa 1820 house.
Wi-fi is included in our rent.
Neither of us can connect to the house's NetGear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router (which is on the first floor) with our MacBooks (both purchased new earlier this year and both running Mac OS 10.7).
We can connect to the network with our iPhones, iPads and Windows Notebooks.
But when we try to connect with our MacBooks, we get a connection timeout error.
Any help would be mucho appreciated.
    Mike

This is a part of the larger MacBook Pro connectivity issue. There are several related threads dealing with the MBP's networking problems. If your unit is suffering from this type of difficulty, good luck ... (or a long ethernet cable)
(PS Everybody please make noise on this one so apple comes up with a solution.)

  • Airport Extreme 802.11n (4th Generation) vs. MBP 2006.  The MBP is losing :(

GRRRRRRRRR— I feel like this is a version of a problem I see repeated here endlessly, but none of the threads I see about it is quite the same, or fixes my problem.       We have a network with:
Airport Extreme 802.11n (4th generation), connected to DSL modem.  Firmware 7.5.2
    MBP 2006, running OS 10.6.7 ****
    MBP 2008, running OS 10.5.x
ipads, iphone, shared printer, drive, etc.
Everything works fine EXCEPT the MBP 2006.  It connects to the network, works for a while, and then after a certain amount of time (anywhere between a minute and several hours) it's dropped.  The menu bar still shows a connection and full signal, but there's no connection (TCP or afp) and when I launch the Aiport Utility, it just says that no base stations can be found.   The menu bar seems to be lying. Using the menu to turn Airport off and back on (or sleeping the laptop) works to reestablish the connection.
I do not have this problem with the MBP 2006 on other wireless networks (at work, or at my other home in another city).  Just with the Airport Extreme
I've tried changing the channels, disabling IPv6 on the laptop and on the Airport Extreme, setting up a manual DHCP address, and changing the setting for "radio mode" of the base station from Automatic to 802.11a/n - 802.11b/g/n.   I also read that there might be troubles with "mixed" networks with both 802.11g and 802.11n, so I upgraded the Airport card in my MBP 2006 to an AirPort Extreme 802.11 a/b/g/n, which made disk sharing much faster when it's working, but didn't put an end to the cut-outs
Hjalp?  Why does the Airport Extreme keep dropping my MBP 2006 (or vice versa)?  Are there other things I should be changing or disabling?

    OK, two possible leads:
    1) Using the AirPort Utility, I disabled 802.11n, setting the AirPort Extreme to b/g only.  This seemed to help— I didn't fall off the network all afternoon.  (Setting it to 'n' only did not work, unfortunately, or else that would have been better, since it would have let me take advantage of the faster speeds for Time Machine to the shared disk)
    2) Soon thereafter, for seemingly independent reasons, we starting having trouble with our DSL connection.  We reset the AEBS to factor settings, which didn't solve the DSL problem (had to get a Windstream technician out for that), but since that reset, I've been connected with 802.11a and the MBP hasn't fallen off the wireless network once.
We'll see how it holds up, but for now, the recommendation seems to be first to reset the AEBS settings to factory default, and then try disabling 802.11n...

  • Question: why the 802.11n doesn't work on my brand new MacBook?

    dear sirs,
I've just found out that the 802.11n upgrade doesn't work for my MacBook 2 GHz Intel Core Duo. How come? Is it possible? What should I do to have it talk to my also new AirPort Extreme 802.11n at the same rate?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Tomaso

Also on http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/performance.html it states:Most currently shipping Mac systems support the next-generation 802.11n technology in the new AirPort Extreme Base Station.2
    2. All Mac computers with Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Xeon processors except the 17-inch iMac with 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor support the 802.11n technology in AirPort Extreme. These 802.11n-compatible Mac systems require enabler software that is included on the AirPort Extreme CD.

  • HP Color LaserJet 1500L - drops off the 802.11n network

My HP Color LaserJet 1500L drops off the network (it just stops printing). This happens when it is plugged into the usb bus of my new 802.11n base station or directly into the usb bus of a computer. The only way to fix it seems to be to plug it directly into a computer and unplug the usb plug and replug it, or to add the printer again. This problem has occurred in the past, but over time, and after various upgrades to the operating systems and hardware, etc, the situation tends to change. Before I installed the 802.11n base station the printer was staying in contact with my computers, but now it is misbehaving again. I doubt there is a real solution out there now, because it happened before and I never did discover a direct fix, but I thought the problem to be worth posting. This problem does not happen with my Canon PhotoPrinter iP6000S, which sticks to my network like glue whereever I plug it in (airport express, airport extreme, direct to computer, etc.) The HP loses contact with either of my computers in exactly the same way.
Mac Pro Intel Core 2 Duo, and iMac Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   airport express, airport extreme 802.11n, cable modem
iMac Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

To use the OS X standard network protocols (Windows/IP printing), you must have either a postscript printer (the driver in that case is just a ppd for the OS X postscript output) OR, a driver designed to work with CUPS (CUPS driver). HP doesn't provide CUPS drivers for OS X (who knows why, since they do for linux).
You need to install foomatic and ESP ghostscript:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/foomatic/
    then, install the foo2oak driver:
