Is the ability to center an inline object with a baseline shift gone in Pages 5.0?

In the previous versions of pages I was able to center an inline object such as an imported equation with a baseline shift. I cannot find this in pages 5.0.
It is gone?

  • Is it possible to move the anchor point for an inline object?

    I have noticed that sometimes the anchor point will get inserted in the middle of a word resulting in the spellchecker marking the word as misspelled.
    I can't seem to find any information in the documentation about moving an anchor point. Is it not possible?
    Thanks

    Krisler,
    Select your Inline graphic. Then click on the center of the graphic and drag the mouse's pointer into the text. When you get your pointer into the text you will see the insertion cursor (vertical bar) just at the tip of the mouse arrow. When you let go of the mouse button the insertion point for the graphic will be where the insertion bar was at that time. The key point is to concentrate on the position of your arrow tip as you attempt to reposition the insertion point.

  • What's the best way to send multiple objects with a message?

    I'm considering using an ObjectMessage and storing a Map as the object. Each
              of the objects I need to send will be bound in this Map. Is this the correct
              approach?
              Also, if this is the correct approach, where should I store the constants
              for the Map keys? If I put them in the MDB consumer, it ties the client to
              the consumer and vicea versa. I guess I could declare them in my main
              interface.
              Thanks,

    OK.
              But for what it's forth, if you were to need to put a Map in an
              ObjectMessage, you might find that MapMessage gives you similiar (if not
              better) functionality, the resulting message will be smaller, and your
              system may perform better. The various implementations of java.util.Map are
              pretty hefty objects to serialize, whereas a MapMessage (at least, the
              MapMessage from BEA JMS) has been optimized to be pretty compact and fast.
              On the other hand, the only kinds of objects you can put in a MapMessage are
              Java primitive types (int, String, and so forth), whereas in a java.util.Map
              you can put any kind of object.

  • Question about the ability of Genius Bar to help with outside software...

    Hi I wasn't sure where to put this, but here's my question. I'm having a problem with the Sims 2 on my Macbook and I was wondering if I go to the Genius Bar will they be able to help me or are they strictly hands off when it's not a direct Apple product?
    Also, I bought an external hard drive in the Apple Store but it's not an Apple branded product. If I'm having a problem with that, can I go to the Apple Store?

    If it's a question about the installation, system requirements or compatibility with your MacBook, the Mac Genius can probably help. If you're having some kind of issue while using the Sims 2, you'll probably have to contact .
    The same is true with the hard drive. If you need some help getting it connected or even formatted, they can probably help. However, if it's not powering up or you're losing files or some kind of operational issue with the hard drive after it's connected, they'll probably refer you to the manufacturer.
    Usually Apple can't support other vendors' products. Someone here may be able to give you some more advice, since none of us work for Apple. There may be someone here who's already had the same issue with the Sims.

  • What does Inline object "Y offset" mean exactly?

    Hi everyone,
    I am confused about inline object y offset. What does it mean exactly? I looked it up on adobe help, here is what it says there.
    Inline
    Aligns the anchored object with the baseline of the insertion point. You can adjust the Y Offset to position the object above or below the baseline. This is the default type of anchored object. In earlier versions of InDesign, these objects were called inline graphics.
    So.. is the baseline at the insertion point?  If the y offset is a negative number, does that mean the baseline move up? How come the object doesn't move ? like the adobe help say, "adjust the y offset to position the object above or below the baseline", doesn't it mean the baseline should stay and object moves accordingly?
    Thanks a lot!

    The behavior of inlines is also tied to the leadingof the line in which they are located. When the line has autoleading specified, the inline starts withthe bottom edge on the baseline, and the leading for the entire line is adjusted to the height of the inline object. Changing the y offset in such cases would appear to make the inline object appear stationary while shifting the baseline up or down.Waht is happening is the "auto" amount of leading is being adjusted to compensate for the shift.
    If the line in which the object is inserted uses a fixed leading, that leading is honored, and the inline object may cover part of the text above. Changing the offset will make the boject appear to move up or down realtive to the baseline, which will remain fixed by the assigned leading.

  • 'Wrap' formatting of inline objects?

    When I place an object (an image) within a body of text, and wrap is selected, the text flows around the object in the manner that has been selected as long as the object is 'floating.' However, as soon as the object has been made 'inlline,' the text no longer flows around it, but instead is pushed above and below the object and the wrap options are greyed out.
    What is the secret to maintaining the 'wrap' options for an inline object, if any?

    Alistair - I'm confused... First, Apple's Pages works like Bob described... an image can be inserted "inline" and you can select "object causes wrap" - and as the text moves, the image moves with the text. I expect iBooks Author to work the same way!
    As soon as I select 'inline' iBooks Author deselects the "object causes wrap" and you can't pick the wrapping options.
    I've tried selecting "anchored" does allow you to do the wrapping options, but if you edit the text around the object (like maybe adding a bunch of text above the image), then the image doesn't move and you've got to move the image again.
    I think what I'm learning is that iBooks Author is not a text editing tool - they expect you to have your text locked down when you come into iBA and then fooling with images would be easier.

  • Does Adobe Reader for iOS have the ability to open inbedded links to additional PDF docs?  If not, then what would be the best way to use these already created PDF's?

    Does Adobe Reader for iOS have the ability to open inbedded links created with Acrobat Standard to additional PDF docs?  If not, then what would be the best way to use these already created PDF's on an I Pad?

    driddy61,
    As of June 2014, none of the Adobe Reader mobile products support the hyperlink action for opening a separate PDF document.
    Adobe Reader for iOS
    Adobe Reader for Android
    Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8
    In addition, the Reader mobile products do not open multiple windows/documents simultaneously, which would make the navigation between PDF documents nearly impossible. (Once a hyperlink takes you to a different PDF document, you have no way to go back to the original PDF document.)
    The only Adobe Reader product that fulfills your department's requirements is Adobe Reader XI (mostly for Windows/Mac desktop/laptop computers).  Acrobat Pro and Standard are paid products.
    Because you are in search of a less expensive device for your department, you could get a Windows tablet instead of a Windows desktop/laptop computer. Microsoft Surface Pro (that you've mentioned in your previous reply) is just one example.  You can also find other less expensive Windows tablets.
    Tablets
    However, please keep in mind that there are two different types of Windows tablets running two different operating systems.
    (a) A Windows tablet with an Intel-based processor running Windows 8.1 Pro
    Example: Surface Pro 3
    You can install and run traditional desktop apps (e.g. Adobe Reader XI) and new Windows Store apps ("Modern" or "Metro-style" apps).
    (b) A Windows tablet with an ARM-based processor running Windows RT 8.1
    Example: Surface 2
    You can only install and run Windows Store apps (e.g. Adobe Reader Touch) but not traditional desktop apps like Adobe Reader XI.
    In general, type (b) tablets are more affordable than type (a) tablets.  However, if you want to run Adobe Reader XI, you do need to check the technical specification of each tablet and make sure the following conditions are met.
    Processor: Intel
    Operating system:  Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 8/8.1 Pro, not RT
    Hope this helps you choose the right device for your department.  Please let us know if you have any questions about system requirements or supported features in the Adobe Reader products.

  • Include the ability to have nested content/widgets lay outside parents' content boundaries

    To help explain what I mean I include an example:
    Imagine the ability to have an accordian panel with 4 tabs each 80px wide. Each tab in the accordion could house a series of triggers for blank or presentation compositions, with the actual images opening outside the boundaries of the original accordian panel.
    While it's possible to achieve something similar now, it would require the accordian panel itself to span the width of the opened images of each composition, taking up a large amount the websites "surface area".
    This would also allow for easier/more streamlined organization of multiple elements in the page, leading to more dynamic/creative websites.

    I would love that feature. • Can I call an object with synchronized methods from an EJB

    I have a need for multiple threads (e.g. Message Driven Beans) to access a shared object, lets say a singleton, I'm aware of the "you can't have a singleton in the EJB world" issues) for read/write operations, so the operations will need to be synchronised.
    I've seen various statements such as you can't use read/write static fields in EJBs and you can't use synchronisation primitives in EJBs but I've also seen statements that say its okay to access utility classes such as Vector (which has synchronised methods) from an EJB.
    Does anyone know if there is a definitive answer on this? What are the implications of accessing a shared object with synchronised methods from multiple EJBs? Is it just that the EJB's thread may block which limits the ability of the container to manage the EJBs? In the Vector example above (from Professional Java Server Programming) did they mean its okay to use these utility classes provided they aren't shared across threads?
    If I can't use a plain old Java Object does anyone know if there are other potential solutions for sharing objects across EJBs?
    In my problem, I have an operation that I want to run in a multi-threaded way. Each thread will add information to the shared object, and this info may be used by the other threads. There's no lengthy blocking as such other than the fact that only one thread can be adding/reading information from the shared object at a time.
    I've trawled through this forum looking for similar questions of which there seem to be many, but there doesn't seem to be any definitive answers (sorry if there was and I missed it).
    Thanks
    Martin

    You can share objects among EJB's or among objects used by one or more EJB's. You can use synchronization primitives - nothing will prevent you from doing that.
    After all, the container classes, JVM-provides classes, JDBC, JCA, JNDI and other such classes do all of this with impunity. You can too. You can use file and socket I/O as well, presuming you configure the security profile to allow it. Should you? Well it depends on what you need to accomplish and if there is another practical alternative.
    Yes the specification warns you not to, but you cannot be responsible for the interior hidden implementation of classes provided to you by the JVM or third parties so you can never truly know if your are breaking these written rules.
    But when you do these things, you are taking over some part of the role of the container. For short running methods that only block while another thread is using the method or code block and no I/O or use of other potentially blocking operations are contained in the method/block, you will be fine. If you don't watch out and create deadlocks, you will harm the container and its managed thread pool.
    You should not define EJB methods as synchronized.
    Also, if you share objects between EJB's, you need to realize that the container is free to isolate pools of your EJB in separate classloaders or JVM's. It's behavior can be influenced by your packaging choices (use of .ear, multiple separate .jar's, etc.) and the configuration of the server esp. use of clustering. This will cause duplicate sets of shared classes - so singletons will not necessarily be singleton across the entire server/cluster, but no single EJB instance will see more than one of them. You design needs to be tolerant of that fact in order to work correctly.
    This isn't the definitive answer you asked for - I'll leave that to the language/spec lawyers out there. But in my experience I have run across a number of occasions where I had to go outside of the written rules and ave yet to be burned for it.

    I bought a HP note book pc with windows 7 64 bit operating system.  I'm using a HP officejet 4315v all in one printer that works perfectly using the driver detected by windows 7 installed using the USB cable.  Previously I had installation software for the HP solution center program that worked with XP and Vista.  When I tried to install the software in  windows 7 I received the message telling me it was incompatable with my operating system.  There seems to be  according  all my research in the HP system no updated software to use Window solutiions center with Windows 7 64 bit operating system.  HP says there is a work around that will open the toolbox in order to check ink levels but not much more.  It doesn't work.  I know microsoft 7 provides a way to scan and fax but HP solution center was by far better.  Are there any solutions I might have misses or suggestion?  I would appreciate any help given. • Sending objects with sockets (and making a mess thereof)

    I'm playing about with client/server interaction and have made a simple program where a server waits for a connection on its given port, accepts a socket connection and every second checks for any input from the client and sends a Point object with co-ordinates to the client
    The client in renders the Point object and every second checks for an updated Point from the server, whenever the left or right arrow keys are used the server is sent the keyevent object to process and change the co-ordinates of the point which will then be sent back
    But it doesn't work, the server thread hangs on the if statement testing for a new object to read. If the code looking for a new object is comented out, the system works perfectly (with the random co-ordinates shown, the Point object itself is held in another class and would be used if the server could read the input)
              try
                   ObjectOutputStream out = new ObjectOutputStream(socket.getOutputStream());
                       ObjectInputStream in = new ObjectInputStream(socket.getInputStream());
                       boolean temp = true;
                       while (temp == true)
                        sleep(1000);
                        Object o = in.readObject();
                        if (in.readObject() != null)
                             parent.process.updatePoint((KeyEvent)in.readObject());
                        out.writeObject(new Point((int)(Math.random() * 200), (int)(Math.random() * 200)));
              } Could anyone advise me why it specifically doesn't work? Having said that I realise my design is probably rather inefficient and generally poor and any general tips are welcome to
    Any help appreciated

    I think we are going to need to see the other side of your program. If your code hangs at the if statement:
                        if (in.readObject() != null)
                             parent.process.updatePoint((KeyEvent)in.readObject());
                        }Then i would have to assume the object is never recieved.
