Is the adapter charger universal?

I got an adapter with my iPod 3g when I purchased it. Can I use it to charge my iPod Classic?

This article
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1384
has a note that says
Note: iPod classic (120 GB), iPod touch (2nd generation), and iPod nano (4th generation) do not support FireWire and will not charge from any FireWire-based power source.
So this implies that the older 80G or 160GB iPod classic (and other older iPods) will charge from a FireWire power adapter from the 3G iPod.

  • Adaptive charging in "new" macbook air?

    Hi,
I've seen many peoples wondering about the new macbook air's battery.
    But didn't clear me up.
So I'm still wondering about the adaptive charging used in the macbook pro's.
Does the new macbook air have adaptive charging or not?
and if so, are they functioning as the macbook pro?
Because in one of those topics someone asked the same stuff, and the answer was: "type=yes, Size=no"
So the new macbook air series are will adaptive charging chip, but are they functioning with 1000 charging cycles?
I'd understand that the mba won't last for 7 hours or anything like that as the macbook pro, because its not a battery with the same quantity cells, cuz the mba uses a lil bit smaller battery.
Anyways, I just want to know if the new macbook air series are built-in with adaptive charging, and if they are functioning.
    Thanks

I cannot be absolutely sure - except that when the latest revision of the MBA was released - Apple never announced that feature in the battery - and - they really made a big deal of it last fall when they released them with the MBP.
So - I think they didn't mention it because that technology is NOT in the MBA.
If it was they would flaunt it to sell more MBA's.

  • My Satellite laptop (A305) shuts down when run on the AC charger/adapter

The problem is that my Toshiba _A300 series laptop (A305) shuts down when you try to run it on the AC charger/adapter_. You can boot it with the power cord plugged in and it will get to Windows Desktop and maybe a few minutes more at most before shutting off.
It will boot and _run from battery without problem_, but if you plug in the AC while it is up and running on battery the machine will normally click off instantly and reboot to the message "Windows was not shut down correctly."
The _AC adapter works fine_ reading a steady 19.19 to 19.20 volts with a voltmeter. It also _charges the battery fine when the computer is off_. I have two Toshiba brand batteries and they both work fine.
One interesting thing is that the _computer runs fine on AC when in safe mode_.
I _did a reformat/factory restore_ of Vista to assure it was not software and drivers, and still got the same problem before any external devices had been plugged in.
It has the latest BIOS and I tried resetting it to default values in case anything had gotten changed. It made no difference.
This is _not a heating issue_ because _while it is run on battery I can watch long videos_ without it shutting off. I ran compressed air through the vents just to make sure, but it makes no difference in behavior. Usually with an overheating shut-off, the computer cannot be started until it has cooled some, but these shutdowns are accompanied by an instant reboot.
I have seen on some threads that this type of problem one can work around by disabling one of the processors in Device Manager, but I don't think that is much of a lasting solution or good for the computer.
Has anyone seen this problem before and have you come with a full diagnosis of the problem and a real solution?

I have Satellite A300 and until now everything works OK.
I would like to know what happen when you remove the battery and use notebook with power supply only. Does notebook shuts down again.
If not let OS run and put the battery.
Is the battery recognized properly? Does notebook switch off again?
To be honest I cannot imagine this issue has something with software or background processes. Recovery image you got with your notebook is designed for this certain notebook mode. Recovery image is tested and I dont think preinstalled OS has anything to do with this.
    Full diagnosis?
And how to do this? You know very well that diagnosis can be done with diagnostic tools only and such tools have services only. I hope you will find answers but Im 99% sure there is nothing you can do about that. Maybe you should contact service, explain the situation and ask for help.

  • My ipad 3 stopped charging, not the adapter and reboot doesn't do anything.  I've tried all the tricks and different adapters and now my nearest Apple store is saying it just doesn't work and it'll be $300 to replace.  Only had it 1 yr and half.

My ipad 3 suddenly stopped charging last week.  I've tried different adapters, to no avail.  I didn't drop it or spill anything on it.  I don't have tons of apps, so plenty of memory.  My husband took it to the Apple store for me and they tried charging it too even though I knew that wasn't the problem and then said it wasn't working (no kidding) and then told him it would be $300 to replace.  Seeing as I've only had it for a year and a half and it cost more than twice that to begin with, I'm a little ticked that it stops charging, a problem I know is very common according the all the message boards and they want to charge me $300.  I've always heard that Apple was so good to it's customers, but my iphone has been a nightmare, and now my ipad won't charge.  Also, I've tried the reset options I've read about and none worked.  Sorry, just really upset.  I thought I was paying all this money for better quality and now I feel foolish for having done so.  Anybody with any ideas I, or the genius at Apple haven't thought of?  Help is appreciated.  Thanks.

May be some help on one of these links.
Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Recently when I want to charge my Macbook Pro, ok Pro 13" with my Magsafe adapter, it charges for a few seconds and then it stops as soon as my MBP found the remaining charging time.. I haven't done anything to my adapter.

    Hi all

  • Charger Buzzes when plugged into the Adapter Converter

Im in England currently (From the USA) and am using a "DYNEX" converter adapter to switch the electric current down so I can plug in/charge my Macbook Pro and iPad.
It works, however the charger buzzes pretty loudly and gets hot.
Thankfully I brought two, one started smelling like melted plastic and stopped charging altogether. That particular charger has faulted at home before (back in the USA), so I'm not sure if it died because of the converter or because it's just faulty.
I have plugged in the newer charger and it also buzzes, but I'm really worried to keep it plugged in because I don't want it to fault out too.
Is it normal for it to buzz like that when plugged into a converter adapter?
    Thanks!

The question again, why are you using a voltage converter?  The Apple charegers are all rated for 100-240 volts at 0-60 Hz...you only need a plug adapter to convert the US HEMA plug to the UK two round pin plug.
Adding a voltage converter is adding one more failure point into the system.
I have used mine all over Europe with no issues.

The device is locked to the carrier it was purchased through unless you specifically purchased it as unlocked directly from Apple.
Only the carrier to whom it is locked can authorize it's unlocking.  To do so, the user much contact them to start the unlock process.

  • What is the right way to connect the adapter to my macbook when charging?

what is the right way to connect the adapter to my macbook when charging.
is it connect the magsafe connector first before plugging the adapter to the outlet? or the way around? or both ways will do?
what if i'm using a surge protection with a on/off button, can I just turn the surge protector extension on and off without disconnecting the magsafe connector and adapter plug from my laptop when i'm not using it?
    thank you very much

If there is any arcing it may be because the adapter is dirty. It is best to plug in the wall wart then attach the magsafe to the MacBook. As GfulDedFan mentioned this reduces the chance of power surging the MacBook. I have done mine this way since he day I bought it and have never had an arc. I keep it clean to reduce the chance of this happening. The following will help in the care of your supply.

  • If you are traveling in Europe, do you need both an adapter AND a voltage regulator to charge the IPad2 and the iphone? Or, the reverse, will it hurt either if I use both the adapter AND the voltage convertor?

If you are traveling in Europe, do you need both an adapter AND a voltage convertoro charge the IPad2 and the iphone? Or, the reverse, will it hurt either if I use both the adapter AND the voltage convertor?

You may only need adapters for the different kind of sockets, depending of the country you want to travel. A voltage converter is not needed.
The Apple power units are multi voltage devices, supporting a range from 110 V to 240 V. as you can see on the labels. O.K. for most of the labels you need a magnifier, but its on them.
    Have a pleasnt journey

  • Charging the battery vs. Using the adapter

I'm trying to get a definitive answer about keeping the MacBook Pro connected to the AC adapter while using it as my desktop computer. Is it OK? Not OK? Should the battery be charged to a "full charge " state and then used until prompted to plug in the adapter? Or, can it be connected to the adapter all the time? The MacBook Pro has replaced an iMac that was my primary computer and it's infrequent that I take it from my office to another place. Thanks.

I think if you searched the forums you would find the question has been answered definitively.
The charging circuitry stops charging the battery once the charge level exceeds 95 percent. The battery will not re-charge until the charge level drops below 95 percent. Thus, you can leave the charger connected without concern that the battery will be undergoing continuous discharge and charge cycles that reduce the battery's overall life. However, if you do not periodically calibrate the battery the accuracy of the SMU's measure of the battery's charge level will deteriorate. Thus, you should re-calibrate the battery about once a month.

My MacBook Air shuts down when its more than half way charged and won't turn on unless I plug it in to the adapter? Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

If you really do have a Mid 2013 Mac Air model then it is still in warranty, as the standard Apple warranty is one year from date of purchase. So take it into an Apple store and have it diagnosed and fixed under the warranty. There is some type of hardware problem that only Apple can fix.
