Is the Apple Store still fixing chipped MacBook cases?

I have a case that has chipped, split, cracked, peeled - whatever you want to call it - on the right corner palm rest and the screen bezel. I have jus learned that this is a known issue (where have i been, right?); but, the Apple Care has expired for this machine. Will the Apple Store be able to repair or replace these parts? If so and if not covered, how much will this typically cost?
This is an old MacBook (2008?).
Anyone have a similar situation?
Thanks,
Brandon

Thanks for the info/inspiration.
I am all fixed, and here's what happened (for future searchers):
I called the apple Store and spoke to a Genius. He, understandably, couldn't tell me anything about wether it would be "free" or "covered" because he'd have to see it first. So i made an appointment for that very day over my lunch break.
I walked in, checked in by saying "I have an appointment at the Genius Bar". They took a look and took it to the back room to be fixed. I asked about the charge and got a very friendly "oh no, it's on us." They were finished in less than 15 minutes - plenty of time to wander about and daydream.
Overall, this was a very pleasant experience.
For reference, My MacBook is the late 2007 white model.
Take care,
Brandon

Does the Apple Store still recycle iPad 2 and iPhone 4 now? And how much could I get from it to buy a new iPad or iPhone?

Yes if they are in working order. You will have to ask at the Apple Store to find out the amount.

  • Does the Apple store still support 3gs

My 3GS keeps turning itself off and then I have to reset it to come back to live. This thine though I can't get it back for love nor money
I've tried restoring & recovery by to no avail
If I take it to the apple store will they be able to do anything?

    The 3GS is still supported.
Apple still provides replacements for the 3G and 3GS, only the original iPhone has been deemed obsolete at this time.

  • How long would it take the Apple Store to fix this common problem?

I have the 2010-2011 macbook black screen of death, some days it crashes at least 4 times a day! screen just blacks out and i have to restart. other than that everything works fine
    http://oleb.net/blog/2012/05/15-inch-mbp-mid-2010-crashing-to-black-screen/
now here it says apple will fix this for free, so i scheduled a genius appointment for Monday, this guy here says apple just replaced the entire logicboard, how long should it take?
also how can Apple verify that i have the same problem?  (I'm pretty sure it is the same problem)
I saved one of the error logs in a text file, maybe that should help.

  • Can i get the apple store to fix my ipod?

or do i have to send it in

If its under warranty, they can exchange the iPod for a refurbished one; otherwise, you'll need to send it in.

  • If you have a shattered screen and the lock button doesnt work, but you only tell the apple store about the lock button, will they give you a whole new phone, or just fix the button. Even if you still have warranty

I recently broke my lock button when it dropped, and wont work again, also i shattered my screen a while back, but it didnt bother me. Now that i want to get the button fixed, will the apple store only fix the button, or the whole phone. I still have 2 weeks of warranty left so it's not like they'd fix one thing and not the other when either way they'll both be free ya know?

They will not give you anything.
They wil either return the device as is or replace it at the out of warranty replacement cost.

  • Do Apple stores still sell Apple Tv in the UK

What is the main difference between Apple Tv 2 and Apple Tv 3?
    Which version is the cheapest?
Is there a difference in firmware between the two boxes and generations?
Do Apple stores still sell Apple Tv 2 in the UK?
    Thank You
    Pav

    Welcome to the Apple community.
The main physical difference between these two devices are their specifications, the Apple TV 3 has much higher specs. For the time being this translates only into the ability to output 1080p to the TV. Whether or not it will become capable of other things that the Apple TV 2 cannot do, we do not know.
The Apple TV 2 and the Apple TV 3 can both run the same software. The only difference between the two boxes is that the Apple TV 3 box has 1080p stamped on it.
No, I do not believe that the Apple stores still sell the Apple TV 2, there will be little point to that, it was the same price as the Apple TV 3 and who would want that when there is a higher spec version available. You may however find refurbished versions available at the Apple Store.

  • Do the apple store stock every configuration of Macbook Pro?

I'm considering buying a 13 inch retina MacBook Pro soon, probably 512GB, and was wondering what configurations apple keep in store? I've noticed that on the apple store you can configure MacBooks to have more RAM ext, and was wondering if all these are stocked in the stores, or would I need to order one online and take it into store? I'm really not the most tech savvy person, so wouldn't be comfortable setting up a new mac and transferring all my data over from my PC, so I'd need to visit a store for s omeone to assist me, and my nearest apple store is 100 miles away so I'd like to know they have the macbook I want! Also if I decide I won't want a configured one, just the normal retina 13 inch 512GB, am I just able to walk into store, buy it and have them move all my files, or do I need to make an appointment? Thanks for your help!
Probably in the wrong category sorry!

No, they will have the base models.  Otherwise you will have to order one to match your preferences via the store or online.
    Ciao.

  • Possible to get iMac repaired without going to the apple store?

i recently purchased a 24" imac and called apple to request a repair due to a stuck pixel in the middle of my screen, very distracting, and i got a case number but was told that i need to take it to an apple store to have it looked at first and then the store would send it out to apple. not a big deal except for the fact that the closest apple store is nearly a hour away. so my question is, has anyone been successful in getting a prepaid box sent to their house for a non-portable instead of having to drive it to the apple store first? Thanks
    Ty

Could the apple store still decide differently?
They could, yes, once they examine the situation. A tech on the phone can only guess based on your description, so the tech at the store may come up with a different determination once he/she sees the system.
Also, there are also some "authorized service centers" that come up when i do a search on apples website... should i try one of those or just stick with the apple store?
Whether the case you've opened will authorize a service center to go ahead and replace the screen, or whether they'd be required to consult with Apple, I don't know. My guess is that the latter case is the one that would be correct; that the service center would have to examine the system and then contact Apple to see if Apple would authorize replacement of the screen. And as I said, it's very unusual for Apple (or any other manufacturer) to replace a screen for a single bad pixel.
So it's your call. If there's a service center near you and you want to try them, it might be worth the time, at least to call them and discuss the situation and see what they think.

  • I have a late 2006 Macbook and the screen is very loose. It is now a "vintage product" so would I still be able to get it fixed at the apple store?

My late 2006 white Macbook screen is very loose and the hinge needs to be tightened, but my laptop is now "vintage" so would the apple store be able to fix it or would I have to send it in??

See the tutorials from ifixit.com,you can try to repair it yourself if you are not afraid to take it apart.

  • I occasionally have issues waking my macbook pro up from sleep mode and have to restart the computer. The apple store replaced the sleep part but the problem is still there

I occasionally have issues waking my macbook pro up from sleep mode resulting in my need to restart the computer. I dislike all of my programs opening at once when I do get the computer started becasue it slows the cpu down. The apple store replaced the sleep part but the problem is still there. Note: i never had this problem with snow leopard

I'm not certain but my new MBA 13...when in sleep mode comes back on from a black screen when I simply click on the left mouse button. Also, one time I did a SECURE EMPTY TRASH on files that totalled more than 1GB and it took so long that the fan kept increasing in speed so I pressed on the POWER button and the MBA shut...I was able to boot up with no problem. As a rule, I now only do secured erases for trash bin data totalling 500mb or less...anything above that gets a regular erase (dump).

  • I am a student and i bought an macbook air about 1 month ago but i did not get the 100 giftcard from the apple store. can i still get it?

Hi, I am a student and i bought an macbook air about 1 month ago but i did not get the 100 giftcard from the apple store (that comes when students purchase computers).Am i still eligible to get it?

    Not usually.
Apple has had similar offerings every year, to which they always establish a time interval for elligibility. I've not seen where they give credit to prior sales on the education perks.

  • MacBook Pro keeps restarting even after going to the Apple Store

I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15" and it's been really acting up lately. It began randomly going black with the keyboard still lit up and then rebooted itself without warning. When I updated to Mavericks, it started happening multiple times a day. I did a virus scan, repaired the Disk Permissions, basically tried every troubleshooting method I could on my own. Nothing would help it so I finally took it to the Apple Store and they decided I should wipe everything off my hard drive, do a clean install of Mavericks and then restore my files and settings from Time Machine. They did everything (except Time Machine) for me and it seemed to fix the problem at first. My laptop was even much faster. But then it started happening maybe once every one or two days, and now it's randomly restarted 8 times since last night. It’s so frustrating. I’ve noticed that it often restarts when I’m using iMessage. When it restarts and my iPhone is plugged in, it always asks, sometimes even twice, if the phone should trust the computer…it’s like doesn’t even recognize the device when starting up. There are also some other problems with my laptop - my DVD drive spits out everything I put into it and my battery needs to be serviced/replaced. Do you think it could have to do with the battery, even though this usually happens when the laptop is plugged in? There were no problems with my hard drive at the Apple Store and they ignored that my battery had to be serviced, so maybe that’s not it. What could the problem possibly be? Let me know what other information I have to provide in order to figure it out. Please help! Thank you so much.

Thank you for your help everyone
So Friday night I took my laptop back to the Apple Store. They noted that my battery was on its way out, but they didn’t think that was the problem, so they kept it over the weekend to run diagnostics. Upon further investigation, they decided that the battery WAS the problem causing the restarts, so I had them replace it…but it’s still restarting! I got the computer back yesterday evening and it’s already happened 8 times. It just randomly reboots out of the blue without any warning. I can’t imagine what else the problem could be. I was wondering if maybe it is just a problem with Mavericks since the operating system is new and it seems to be happening to quite a few people. I tried to take note of what I suspected might be causing it - it often crashes when using iMessage, for example, so I tried keeping that application closed, but it didn't stop the rebooting.
Here is my most recent report, if that helps at all. I'm desperate to have this problem fixed so any help/insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.
