Is the Apple TV "buggy"?
I got my ATV (2nd generation) for Christmas and have had a lot of problems with it. Mainly, sound disappears from time-to-time. I can turn off my system. When I turn it back on, there is no audio. 'Have to unplug the HDMI (to my AVR) and/or power to the ATV. And, sound drops out while playing Netflix. I've got a very good signal via Wi-Fi. Bottom line, it may be getting to the point I send the unit back. Very disappointed. Thoughts on getting stable audio?? Thanks.
I had many problems...mine was connected to my wireless network and purchased for streaming net flix. The movies would stop 20 - 30 times during viewing...utube worked great, and netflix worked on all of our lap tops. Connecting via ethernet was not an option...
I returned Apple TV to my local Apple store, and the new one works fantastic...no pauses, no error codes, works great...

Before the forum posts start lets get a little information out. I recommend you have your device plugged into the power outlet and this way your battery won't die while you are updating. The update takes roughly 1.5 hours to totally update to the new OS. So just agree to the terms and then wait for it to complete. There are a few things the phone will do on first start up. Turn on GPS, set a passcode, ask for your apple id etc. Just follow the prompts. After that is done it will tell you that you have updates. I chose automatically update apps. I found this feature was a little buggy, so you may have to press each app to get your update. The radio feature is nice, however the selections you can make up are limited. However you hear the whole song and the BUY button with price is at top right. Yeah free radio but you will have to fiddle with it to get your songs to play. Now the music player for your icloud music is new in the skin but the same easy to use format. There are other little things that you can do but you have to be patient and get a feel for the new OS. http://news.cnet.com has a great tutorial on the Apple ios7 please note Apple is getting complaints of the update not installing so you have to go to http://www.apple.com to see what solutions or problems with the update. And good luck to all. Additionally there is a new iTunes version available for download. Has the Radio Button in it.
Earlier I have 1 login and I was able to trace all the phones with 1 id, why change it, is the goal of apple to have more people sign for apple id.
Yes, currently I am doing that by clicking on the shuffle icon, but everytime it is painful. -

I like the iPhone 2.o software. I really do. Omnifocus is great. MySpace Mobile isn't trash anymore. It has some awesome improvements.
It's also incredibly buggy. I only have one issue, but it is an extremely major one.
I've seen this same problem posted recently, but I think it deserves its own new thread.
A few times today, the screen has went black and it displayed the apple logo, like it was resetting. It stays like this until:
1) I actually reset it (doesn't always work), OR
2) I sync it.
Apple, where's the fixes? MobileMe has some big issues as well. I'm not even going to bring up the transition yesterday.
Has anybody found a way to fix this? I'd rather not do a system restore, especially if it doesn't even solve the problem.
Thanks.Make sure you are running the iPhone 2.0 5A347 version and not the 5A345. There have been reports of the 45 version being less stable. If you are running the "old" 2.0 version, just choose "Restore" from iTunes ("Update" will not work) to download the "new" version.

Q2: I cannot use the Apple support site with my iPad. Type disappears. Links don't work.
Not sure what the deal is here. It may be related to my Q1, which was my original issue. Anyway, I tried to access the Apple support communities from my ipad to ask a question. After I logged in, I noticed that all the text I typed into the query box failed to show up. The test seemed to actually be there, as evidenced by the spelling suggestions that appeared as I typed, but it was like it was in white font. The header, or question title was legible, though (I don't have white font on is my point).
Then, when I tried to "browse communities" in order to pick a community in which to post my invisible question, hoping when it posted it would become visible, no communities would display. Actually, nothing happened. The page did not default to the ipad or "using ipad" community. And when I tapped on the "browse" link, nothing happened.
Finally, whenever I pick the "search" function, the word "search" self populates into the search field and I get an entire list of topics that contain the word "search". When I delete the word "search" from the search field and enter different text (like "imessage") it re-sets to the word "search" and I get the same list of topics that contain the word "search". IT'S FREAKING ME OUT!! Like there's a ghost running my device.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.this forum has been very buggy for the past few days. im having similar issues. this weekend was my first visit to this forum so i have no idea if this is related to my new air 2 and ios8.1 or if its on the website side of things. however, site seems to be much more responsive for me today...

I have a late 2009 MacBook which I want to connect to an old LG tv. The tv does not support HDMI it only has the (red, while, and yellow) ports. Sorry I dunno the exact name for it.
So I was thinking of using the Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter (s-video), link below...

But I'm afraid that the MacBook might not support the adapter.

Only the Yellow plug or the S-Video plug for video will work. For sound you'll also need audio cables to the TV using a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs. hello I'm experiencing some problems with my iMessage and face time. I did with Apple provided me online. I did the steps. Nothing will work, it keeps saying activation turn on Wi-Fi when my Wi-Fi is turned on. As soon as I got this on Christmas. iMessage and FaceTime have not been working. My Apple and ID password are correct. Everything else is working fine. My iOS updates are up to date, everything is fine except FaceTime and iMessage

When I go to AppleTV, I select the PC and click on it...It start to open the Library, sending a messege "Charging Library from Victor Medellin" (the name of my PC) but never show it. You can only watch the movie on the device you rented it on. Here's a snippet from the Apple Support site (italics mine):
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

I have been an Apple User for almost two decades and have had no problems with my G4 Powerbook, my Intel MacMini, nor several other Macs as well as Windows 7 machines. However, the IPAD2 poses a problem of unfathomable disgust with the concept and implementation of the Apple ID. There is one for the computer, there is one for support, and there is one for itunes, and possibly another one for apps. There are different passwords for each. I am continually faced with notification that my Apple ID is incorrect or the password is incorrect. I have to keep an Excel spreadsheet with all of this unnecessary NANNY State protection matched only in pervasiveness by the Federal government.
I am told that an Apple ID can never be destroyed and replaced. Who dreamed that one up? I am told I cannot use a password that has been used in the past year. Why? By whose authority? I am not a walking encyclopedia that remembers every telephone number he ever dialed. Thankfully my cheap LG clamshell telephone keeps numbers and talks to Ford Sync successfully.
Bottom line is that the IPAD has become almost totally useless since I cannot change the several necessary passwords to anything I can remember because they are not novel enough. I also never seem to be able to keep the Apple IDs straight as they are too numerous to remember and I don't want to remember them anyway. Why? Even if you enventually get the ID right you have the wrong password and have to go through a merry-go-round of emails to change the password to something you have already used in the past year which is not permitted.
Has anyone out there used a competitive device with less cumberson overhead? Surely this is not the best American technology can produce.

Ray ZacharyThanks to all who responded. You are all absolutely correct. However, this Ipad was a gift to my wife who was dying of cancer in the hospital and wanted some entertainment. So I started it out with her Apple ID. After she passed away I moved from Sacramento to Austin and eventually proceeded to get the Apple ID changed from my wife's to mine. Meanwhile when she was in the hospital I opened an Itunes account in my name to buy movies for her. That was the first mistake.
Then during the move to Austin I lost track of the IPAD and later found it and tried to use support but could not remember the proper ID. Later the folks at the Apple store helped me create a new and novel Apple ID that was unfortunately unlike any other.
The botom line is that I am stuck with three Apple IDs and three passwords. I am told by Apple there is nothing they can do about this as IDs cannot be changed or destroyed. I can quit using them or start a new account but when I try to do that the system keeps remembering too many things from the past and resists.
Even if I sold this Ipad and bought a new one, the system memory is still there.
I think the real problem is that destop and laptop computers are totally owned by an individual and that individual can control logins and passwords to his liking. IPADs and similar Apple products are different in that the corporation has built in their own intrusion detection schemes because of the relation to Itunes.
One thing I thought about is to open a new Itunes account pretendding to be a new customer with my regular Apple ID. Perhaps I could do the same with Apple Support.

Hi - My daughter was using her Apple TV until recently when she got a Smart TV. Now the Apple TV is not needed so she passed it on to me. How do I get her Home Sharing account transferred over to mine so that I can use it with my PC? Thanks!
As Winston Churchill wrote, however you might want to do a factory reset on the Apple TV.
This way all information pertaining to your daughter will be removed from the device. Specifically if see was sign into any of the streaming service, Netflix, Hulu, etc. her credentials will still be associated with this Apple TV, doing a factory reset will remove all that and make it as if you purchased the device and just plugged it in.

I want to hook up Apple TV but my One HDMI Jack on my TV is already connected to my HD cable box. My TV has jacks for s video, component, and PC in jacks.

It's do-able, but I don't think it's a great idea.
DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)

I have one apple id on my iPad and a second apple id on my iPhone and laptop. I want to use one apple id for everything. I tried wiping my iPad and synching it with my laptop. The old apple id still remains on my iPad. I can't get rid of it. Help.
On the iPad open Settings/iCloud and delete the account using the button at the bottom. Once deleted log in using the other account. For iTunes Stores use Settings/iTunes & Apps Stores, tapp on the Apple ID at the top then sign out. Once done sign in using the other account. Once you are happy with the changes plug your iPad into your computer to update the backup.

Both wife and I now have Iphones. Were on the Apple website do I go to get her, her own icloud account/email etc. I want to keep the itunes apple ID the same sso we can share purchases, just dont need to see all her messages?
On her iPhone. Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendar>Add Account>iCloud>Get A Free Apple ID.
Use this ID for iCloud, iMessage, and FaceTime on her iPhone. Keep your ID in Settings>iTunes and App Stores on both iPhones. -

There probably is, but it requires that you be able to use punctuation and write in sentences so that we can understand exactly what you want.
You can block others from using your Apple ID by changing your password. There is no way to erase what was already downloaded on to someone else's device, for obvious reasons,
