Replacement iPhones in the UK from Apple Store new or refurbished?
Are replacement handsets offered in the Apple Store new or refurbished? From speaking with the staff there they referred to them as Service Grade handsets and I did notice the box containing the handset had a quality control sticker applied to it.
I am looking to exchange my faulty iPhone but do not want the replacement to be a used and refurbished handset while I am within 14 days of original purchase.

Most of the stock in the UK will still be new stock and their first distribution point will likley be through the uk applestore, but i'm guessing it might be a month or two before they show up. Refurbs can be unsold old stock (unopened) or unwanted returns (openened) or even repaired stock. Before they go on sale they test them out for a while to catch any obvious issues. Typically they are a good deal.
I'm sure if you returned to the applestore and they agreed to a replacement (within 1 year not 12 days) ask that it be from new stock and they will oblige. -
How do I get the number of new RSS articles to show in the bookmark bar?
I have Apple as one of my Bookmarks in my Bookmark bar. On my eMac at school, whenever there was a new Apple Hot News article, I would get a number next to my Apple that would let me know there was new Apple News. I can't figure out how to set that up on my new MacBook so I know when new Apple News is posted. What do I need to do to show the number of new articles in my Bookmark Bar?
ThomThanks. I thought that was all I had to do and thought I had the Bookmark Bar checked off to alert me. I just checked my preferences again and it wasn't checked off. I guess now I just wait.
Is there anything specific I need to do for the Apple Hot News site? Do I need to subscribe to the RSS feed or anything like that?

Can I stop Apple Hot News RSS feeds?

Can I unsubscribe from the Apple Hot News RSS feeds? I don't read them and really don't know how I signed up for them in the first place! If someone could tell me how to stop them appearing in my inbox that would be great.
Many thanksI am fairly certain you can do this by simply deleting the feed. You can "right click" on the feed and select delete. That should do it.
I also stumbled upon a listing in the Preferences. You go to Rules. (Click the arrows pointing to the right.) and there is a listing for Apple News. I don't know what that is but it looks like it can be deleted if you need to. I hesitate to delete something if I don't know what it does.
BTW - Let me just say I am a new Mac user so don't take what I say as gospel. -
How to change Apple Hot News preferences?
I use Mac Mail for email and receive about 10 messages a day from "Apple Hot News" (software updates, hints about iPhone, etc). How do I stop getting these messages? I don't see any unsubscribe option in the messages.

Click on the "Apple Hot News" feed in the list to the left of the window, then right-click or ctrl-click and choose "Delete Feed".

The Apple Hot News stories are appearing in my inbox, and it is very anoying.
Is there anyway to keep this from happening?My guess would be that you have the 'Apple hot news' RSS feed set to "open messages in inbox".
To resolve this, scroll down in Mail's sidebar to your RSS feeds, ctrl+click on the 'Apple Hot News' feed, and uncheck 'Show in inbox'. -

Click once on the "Apple Hot News" RSS feed name that is listed under your Inbox to highlight the feed name. You may need to click on the disclosure triangle next to "Inbox" to see the feed name inside it.

I have two Apple IDs because i travel frequently between Mexico and the US, and the apple stores offer different products, so i like to download music, movies and TV series from both sites.
Apparently apple changed the conditions, becauise until a few days ago i could log our from one account and log in from my other one. Yesterday i was at Miami International Airport and wanted to download a few chapters from one of my TV series (Walking Dead) to watch on my way to Mexico City, but a pop up window came up saying "this device is already associated with an apple id". Curoiously, the ID to which i was connected to was precisely the one under which i had bought weeks ago the chapters i was wanting to download from the cloud. So it says i have to wait 90 days to change apple id.... weard! probably i accepted these terms when dowloading a new IOS version, so legally I'm dead in complaining, but why is it that if i am paying for all that i buy as a model citizen i am now blocked from jumping from one apple id to another one???? I can certainly buy another ipad and have one with one id and another one with the other, but is there any other way i can keep the two in just one device?? If i don't use i-could would anything change? This is really making me mad, and is the first time i have thought of moving our of mac products into samsung or others and buy my music and movies somewhere else where stupid restrictions like this one do not exist. Please help with a solution!OK, but in my ipad, the apple id i have in itues is already the one iwant to have, but th one i used to sin in for i-coud is the other one. It's do-able, but I don't think it's a great idea.
DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)

I have a macbook 4.1 with osx10.6.8 and just added memory (2gig) so I could sync my new IPhone and Ipad. Now I'm told at the apple store that I need to upgrade my operationg system. They said they couldn't help and gave me conflicting advice about what to do. Any ideas? Thanks you!
There are three models of MacBook that comprise the 'macbook 4.1' category, and each of them a little different; however other than 'macbook 4.1' the other thing they have in common is they all are considered Early 2008. Two are white, one black, polycarbonate case, Core2Duo 2.1GHz, 2.4GHz white, 2.4GHz black.
So if you can determine which one, if any of these, is the model build year and spec you have, that would be handy. Did you tell whoever you spoke to the serial number of your computer, so they'd know by looking up the specs to see what the supported maximum RAM upgrade capacity was, and other minimum requirements to make any upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6.8 at all?
If you have the serial number you can do a lookup to 'indentify by serial number' online, and use that information to determine if the computer needs even more RAM to take it past the minimum for Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then get it ready to upgrade (via paid download from App Store, Snow Leopard gets you that far) and see what the next supported OS X full upgrade would be for the hardware limitations on that old MacBook.
If your MacBook IS a 4.1 build, the highest OS X it could run if it has the 2.4GHz cpu, is Lion 10.7.5. That would be an upgrade from the App store, available to OS X 10.6.8+ computers that access it online. And I kind of doubt how supported a newest iphone etc may be in lion.

The Apple? store or whoever you talked, to may have been as accurate as they could be without further research. Could be you may have a newer or older MacBook, which would change whatever later OS X it could run past 10.6.8. And to go past Snow Leopard, you need to download the last bits for 10.6.x to be able to go and get any later upgrade. The ones that may let a newest iphone or ipad work with it, are past SL10.6.8
Anyway, as you further verify the model build year and configuration specifications, report back.

I recently upgraded to Verizon Fios Quantum high speed internet and was given an ActionTec router. I sucessfully installed all and connected wth my Apple TV. Although it worked initially it no longer does. Something appears to be blocking the Homesharing between my PC and the AppleTV even though the Apple TV is successfully connected to my home network. I spoke with an Apple Support Tech who was unable to help me becuase I have a PC! He admitted this is a common problem with FIOS and PCS. There must be a port that needs to be opened in the router. I do not beleive it is anything to do with my antivirus software or Windows Defender as i uninstalled all and still not communication. Must be a port within the routter that is blocking tis communication. On my Itunes you can see that it does not see the Apple TV. Please advise.
I'd have to agree. I set my vms and two clients on Saturday in one hour. I think the picture is better I did not see an issue with the brightness. For the heck of it I recorded five channels at once to test it. I've also noticed when playing a recorded show on the client everything responds a lot quicker. So I am impressed and curious to see what new features come later.

I have purchased a iPad mini online from the Apple store. Since day one I had 2 issues with it. First is that the battery life doesn't last more than 5-6h active usage, and the second one is with the wi-fi. It works properly but after I leave it for a while in sleep mode and try to reuse it, it doesn't want to open a web page or app store or mail (anything connected with the internet search) but it shows that is properly connected with my home network. So I have to turn off the wi-fi connection and turn it on again so it start to work properly. After couple off days this becomed very annoying so I contacted the support via phone and they gave me instructions for return it and that I'll receive a new one without aditional fee. I get the second device in the predicted time but again I have the same issues with the wi-fi and battery life. I will be pleased if someone from the Apple expert team explaine to me what should I do, because I dont find it for normal what is happening. On the Apple official site under the specifications for iPad mini it says that the battery lasts for at least 10h and the wi-fi problem isn't mentioned anywhere. Thanks in advance.

If you want someone from Apple to explain what you should do make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one near you and take your iPad there and talk to Apple. I changed my Apple ID (new email address, same account), via the Apple website on my laptop, but when I try log into ITunes on my iPad, it still has the old ID. It is greyed out, so I can't change it. On researching further, it seems I have to sign out of iTunes and sign back in using new address. Ok so far, but when I do this, it asks if I want to delete the account and any data on the cloud. If I do this, and sign in with changed ID, will all the data be there Or will it be lost? Thanks for any advice.
Sounds like apps purchased from those accounts got synced to the iPod and it is asking to log into that account to update them.
- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
What do yo see if yo go to the Updates Section of the App Store app? -
I bought an iPhone 4 from a youngster who had put his own Apple ID on it but could not remember the password. I backed it up yesterday and restored to my new iPhone and it copied the Apple ID across too. Now I have 2 phones with it on. Anything I do?

when you start using iCloud on any iOS device and enable find my iPhone, this prevents a new user from using it, and also prevents anyone from using the phone
as it is locked to previous owners account ,this is also the case if when a phone is lost or stolen.
the only way around this is to have the previous owner reset their apple id by going to @ applied.apple.com
if they are unable to do this, then the only other way around this is to have the previous owner get a copy of their original receipt and call apple support who can then lift this lock if they get a copy of the receipt

I was having trouble with synching my iphone 5 since the new operating system was installed. But I was waiting for my 6+ and figured it would be solved with my dandy new phone. No such luck. I downloaded a great deal of music and then added to it and synched again. Music gone, except paid for stuff bought on the phone. So I added more and tried to load it again, and it did. But now, I was afraid to add anything, backup, and synch for any reason as it takes 12 hours + to load my music.
So, I went back to basics and looked up the procedure. It does say that if you make a change, " you should hit the apple button before you synch." Which one?
No info on what they mean. And clearly this is a change. I'm feeling stupid, but lately, Apple makes changes and expects you to intuitively figure them out. I usually do but was stumped here. It might be nice to get a heads up when changes occur.
Please help !
Oh and also, I can't seem to download ringtones I have created.I am syncing my iphone to my iTunes account and then I do a backup and also making sure all updates are current. Then by going to the my phone and then going to the right and selecting the restore my iphone.
