Is the base modeal 15" mbp (4gb ram w/ 750gb@5400rpm) enough to run traktor and ableton without fail?

i just need to know if i can get away with buying the base 15" mbp with the 4gb ram 750gb@5400rpm hdd to sufficiantly run traktor and ableton without fail. all comments needed, very close to just saying screw it and just buying one! getting tired of waiting! thank you l;D

You could do it yourself according to this: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/MacBook_Pro_17inch_Mid2010_Hard_Drive_DIY.pd f
I'm sure the difference in size doesn't make a difference to the replacement.
Here's how to add RAM without affecting AppleCare:

  • I have recently purchased an i5 27 inch Imac with 8gb ram, will this be enough to run logic studio and record vocals?

I have recently stretched my budget as far as I can and have purchased my first Imac! I am really excited about getting it , its an i5 2.7ghz and i went for the 8gb ram upgrade. My question is will this be enough to run logic studio to produce music and record vocals?
If you have a similar setup please le me know how it runs for you. I would also like to hear about the average number of plugins you can run and any other tip to get the most out of your processor.
Logic Studio will be the only big program running on it, I plan to get a blue icicle converter and a blue condenser microphone for vocal recording so I hope the Imac is up to the task!
Hope to hear from somebody real soon.

You should have no problem at all. That iMac is more than capable of running Logic.

  • MacBook 2.4ghz 4GB RAM.... will it run COD 4 Mac Version?

    Hi,
Excited about the new COD4 for the Mac being released, but will the wee MacBook I bought a few weeks ago be able to handle it what with the integrated graphics card?
    Many Thanks,
    Baz, Belfast, Northern Ireland!!

The GMA3100 that's in the Macbook can barely handle COD2. The only way you would be able to play COD4 on a laptop is if you were to get a Macbook Pro.

  • Is the 13 inch powerful enough to run CAD and simulation software with 8gb ram and i5

Or would you need upgraded specs?

I got the 15" rMBP instead.
Call the local Apple Store and ask if you can test your software on their computers. I was allowed to do that. I did and that is how I decided.

  • I have an iMac 5.1 ,2ghz core 2duo  with 1gb 667 MHz ddr2 SS ram running osx 10.6.8. How much tota ram can I install and will it be enough to run lion and/or mountain lion?

I have a iMac 5.1 running osx 10.6.8 , core 2duo, and 1ghz 667mhz DDR sdram. How much ram can be added and will it run lion/mountain lion? Thanks.

As an additional thought: I had this same model iMac and although you can install 4 GB RAM, it will only address just over 3 GB. Since Lion is somewhat of a memory hog, you really will not be very happy with the performance using anything less than 4 GB - and even 4 GB is a bit of a minimum; fine for basic needs, but any photo or video editing will require more than that.

  • HT1750 i decide to upgrade to the OS X Mavericks not realizing I don't have enough hard disk space and now I cant do anything. How do I revert to the previous version to make more space on the HD?

I decided to upgrade to OS X Mavericks not realizing I don't have enough HD space. Now I cannot do anything with the upgrade. How can I revert to the previous OS X to free up more space on the HD?

You can't. It's already downloaded and filled the drive. The only option is to erase and reinstall.
You may be able to Target Disk Mode if you can connect the Mac to another with FireWire or Thunderbolt Cables (USB will not work and it cannot be connected to a windows PC)
Do you have a Time Machine Backup?
If not best option is getting it in somewhere where they can transfer the data you need off before Erase and Reinstalling OS.
Unless there is nothing on the Machine you need anymore that is, in which case you may be able to Erase in Recovery. It May not work though, if the Disk is too full.

  • MBP Retina 13" (late 2013) 4GB RAM vs 8GB RAM

    Hello,
I am thinking about upgrading my current MacBook to the newest MacBook Pro with 13-inch Retina display (base model: 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD). However, I want this computer to last for 3-3.5 years. Therefore, I am wondering how much difference does it make to have 8GB of RAM instead of 4GB? I am on tight budget so additional 200EUR for 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD is very debatable (there is no option to get only 8GB RAM configuration).
My daily usage is very light, however: (1) I'd like to be able to play games like SimCity or Civ5, (2) sometimes I need to use "heavy" apps like IBM SPSS, (3) rarely I like to use photo editing apps.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks guys!

Look at the influence of RAM and SSD on processing CPU intensive applications in this display:
Note that once you have SSD, RAM becomes less important to performance.   Personally If the bank account is thin, 4GB RAM will serve you well.  Only in very High CPU intensive applications will it take longer but they will run.  Unless yo have another MBP with 8 GB RAM next to you, you will not notice the difference.
    Ciao.

  • Is 4gb RAM enough for os x mavericks?

I am on a limited budget and thinking of getting a macbook air 13 inch base model and wanted to know if 4gb ram is ok or does it run like crap.

Are the RAM requirements for Mavericks significantly greater than that  for Mountain Lion?  If not, than I can probably upgrade to Mavericks (strange name this. Sounds like some sort of nightcap) with the RAM I have.
My mid-2007 iMac can't be upgraded above its current 4GB - as far as I know.  It is working fine with ML as long as I don't have too many apps open.  I can still have three or four open at the moment depending on what they do and, interestingly, the pedigree of the company that originated the software.  By that I mean if the originator a Mac only developer (possibly with PC as a secondary line) I experience no problems.
If the originator of the software is basically a PC developer with Macs catered for mainly as an afterthought I find apps from these developers tend to take up most, if not all, the available RAM I have even when nothing else is booted.  Stereomerger.app is a good example of this.

  • 8gb vs 4gb ram MBA Mid 2012

I just bought an open box MacBook Air from Best Buy today and after everything it'll cost me $900. While I know I got a great deal I'm worried that the system only has 4gb of ram. I can buy the same computer from apple with 8gb of ram for $1200 but I'm not sure if it's worth $300. I know a fair amount about computers and I definitely would agree that at $100 to upgrade its worth jumping from 4gb to 8gb but what about for $300?
I'll mostly be using it for basic browsing and word processing and some light programming. I plan to build a more work-oriented desktop later this year but still I feel like maybe spending $300 could be a good move to ensure that the system is still usable 3 years down the line. What do people think? Is it worth spending the extra $300 for 4gb of ram?

Good choice.  More RAM is always a good idea, but with the inclusion of flash storage in the MacBook Air 4GB should be more than enough for a while and $300 is a considerable savings.
I had to make the same choice and went with 4GB becasue my iMac is loaded with more than enough RAM and processing power for heavy tasks.  I also read the AnandTech review of the new Air models and their speed tests showed that 128GB of flash storage provides a nice speed boost over the 64GB model; and it's only an extra $100.  Double the storage and the speed boost is worth that upgrade fee over the base model.
Something else to consider, if anybody is looking for their laptop to be a desktop replacemement, the MacBook Air is not the way to go.  And if you think you may need/want to upgrade the RAM in a year or two a MacBook Pro without the Retina Display would be the way to go.
Having said all that the 11' MacBook Air with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of flash storage is incredibly "snappy"!

  • X-Fi Xtreme Audio & 4GB RAM issue - latest driver?

    :X-Fi Xtreme Audio & >4GB RAM issue - latest driver?T Hi All,
Been using an X-Fi Xtreme Audio with 4GB RAM for ages, no issues.
I purchased and installed a zotac 9600 GT which has GB onboard ram, which works fine, but now my X-Fi has started causing general system instability. (processes using heaps of CPU time whilst apparently doing not much, jerky/slow adobe flash, distorted (slow-motion) audio at random times, etc etc.
In the support section here it says:
Audio issue from output from soundcard with computer having 4GB RAM:
    <span class="text">
Keywords: <font>4GB ram, installation, xfi, x-fi
Summary: Customers with computers having <font>4GB or above of RAM and are experiencing audio issues, please download the latest driver for your sound card.
However... When this issue first came up I formatted my primary dri've, reinstalled the OS and downloaded the latest drivers for EVERYTHING. The problem has prevailed..
It was only yesterday that I tracked down this problem in the support section here, and tried to verify that my driver is indeed the latest. But device manager lists the driver as "6.0.0.209" when in the support section here the downloads are named ".xx.xxxx" or something. How can I confirm that I have the latest driver? In any case, I'm almost certain that I have the latest, and this issue is still occuring.
I have read in other forums that on other varients of my X-FI card, the latest drivers have not solved this problem either.. sorry I cant be more accurate than that.
For now, I have solved this problem by simply removing 2GB of ram from my PC. Obviously, I'd like to find a solution and put the other 2GB back in!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Could DanielK please mod this as well, so we can try them. Or Daniel, you could you please tell me how you modified the previous drivers from auzentech as I dont know how these CL drivers work and are modified. What is the inf in these drivers, and if you could tell me the deviceID?s of all the x-fi models, or atleast for x-fi xtreme music as it is my modell. Thx in advance!
    EDIT:
I have modified the drivers, was not so hard after all. Im uploading the file now, which should have support for all X-FI cards thanks to Daniel's great job with the earlier version.
Upload finished in 4-5minutes. I will post with link soon to rapidshare!
