Is the battery upto task?

Hi my sister just recently purchased a Macbook. I like the Macbook but would opt for a Pro becuase of the graphics card. I need a laptop that I can use 9-5 for work and or in other words I use a computer that works 8 hours a day. One thing that always worries me is the battery. I had a compaq laptop and the battery lasted for 3 years and finally gave up, I only used this for 6 months but gave it to my brother. I now have a toshiba which does a good job. The battery is starting to die on a full charge it gives me 90 minutes and decreasing.
Would the battery in the Macbook/Pro be capable lasting a good time? And also how hot can the ac adapter get?
Generally the laptops I have used never heated up for the first few weeks the ac adapter was cool. After sometime the ac adapter gets hot first and then the laptop follows. The toshiba is cool so far and its been 8 months. Its cool enough to place in my lap.
In general how is the heat issue with the macbook/ac adapter?
Thanks

The AC adapters get warm when charging the battery, otherwise they are fairly cool. They will get warmer if they are on an insulated surface (a carpeted floor, for example). Mine never gets "hot".
The MacBook battery will power the computer for a longer time than the MBP battery (in terms of hours of use). Long-term battery life will vary depending primarily on your usage, not on MB vs. MBP. The battery should hold 80% of it's original capacity over 300 charge cycles. Li-polymer batteries generally last 400-500 charge cycles before you'd want to replace them (i.e. when they will drain after 90 min of use as your Toshiba is doing). The only question is how long it will take you to get to that number of cycles. (For example, my 14-month MBP has 55 cycles as I run mostly on AC; my battery is holding 96% of it's original full charge capacity, so it's very healthy).
You (and your sister) should periodically calibrate the battery, as described here.
Hope this helps...

  • Satellite P10-804: How to enable the battery icon visible on the task bar?

how do I do enable the battery icon visible on the task bar? currently I can only have the type of power save mode e.g. bulb & colour.
I have tried to activate right clicking taskbar/properties/notification areas, found required icon & instructed to always show, however the batery icon remains hidden.
    Help??

One question: Did you try to set several settings in the Windows own power options?
However, I would say some registry keys are corrupt and therefore the battery icon cannot be displayed in the task manager.
Probably only the new installation can help you displaying the icon in the task bar.

  • Laptop keeps shutting down without warning because it thinks the battery is low, but it isn't.

My laptop is about 9 months old and recently it started to just shut down as if the battery were low. It is not low. It just did it now and the battery was at 80%. If I try to restart it it shows low battery and won't start. However, if I remove the battery and reinsert it, it starts up fine. Or, if I plug it in for a moment to start it up and then unplug it it works fine. The battery obviously still has plenty of juice left, but the computer is misreading it somehow. Although it still shows an accurate reading in the task bar. Any thoughts? Thank You.

    UltimateBid,
Thanks for the update. I do not see anything on my end that talks about it, you can try to update the BIOS and see if that resolves the issue, otherwise I would recommend service possibly.

  • Why is the battery draining so fast?

Everything in safari is shut down, all multi-tasking is turned off too. My phone is only 7 months old & has worked fine up until today when I noticed the battery draining so fast.

@ neeraj_96 - Thanks for the input, but that's not the issue.  As I was saying in my reply, my phone has had a wonderful battery life up until yesterday. This has nothing to do with turning off fetching or lowering my brightness.  I have done no major changes in the settings to my iPhone since yesterday, but now all the sudden I can barely hold a charge.  I completely charged it last night to 100%.  This morning I woke up and it was at 56%.  My wife has an iPhone 4, hers was at 96% and this morning it is at 91%.  Something is definitely up with my phone's battery that is not a normal operation.
I have tried to do a complete reboot of the phone (holding the power button and the home key down for 10 seconds) and that has not solved the problem.  I would suspect that it's an application running in the background, but I figured, as @williamformlouisville stated, that would have killed any rouge application draining my battery, but it has not helped.  This is definitely not normal for this phone's operation.

  • Brand new droid 2 global there is a ? in the battery indicator

hi i just got this droid 2 global last tuesday and today i noticed a ? in the battery indicator today. thinking it was odd i turned off and pulled battery, then put it back in. still there. when i put in the charger it tells me battery is not compatible with the phone. i switched batteries with my gf droid 2 global and the battery worked fine with hers, but her battery when put in mine still showed the ? in the indicator....plz help

The ? indicates an issue with the battery, from your description it's hard to tell if you may have a bad battery or if it's an issue with the connection to your phone. Your best bet would be to tasked the phone back and get the whole thing replaced. If you do it before the new 14 day return window, you should be able to get a new replacement which would include a new battery. Beyond that, they may try to give you a refurb, which it's just as good as new, but normally doesn't include the battery or back cover. They will probably have you do a factory data reset first (menu> settings> privacy> factory data reset) so you may want to try that, but I have a feeling it won't help.

  • My phone was 100% when i slept at midnight, when i woke up at 8 am in the morning my phone was dead and I had to charge the battery again .. this is the second time its happening to me. Is it normal or my phone is abnormal ?

So I just got a 3 months Old iphone 4s which is still under warranty. I charged my phone to 100% last night before going to bed. When i woke up at 8 in the morning my phone was switched off and the battery was drained . This is ridiculous that I dint use my phone while i was asleep and the battery drained completely. Even though, Apple store replaced my battery with a new one. I had set alarm for 8è o clock and my phone had died and due to that i woke up at 8:40am.  I had turned off my location services, ping and even 3G to monitor the usage. Has any one been expeirencing this kind of problem ?
I am so going to apple store today to get an replacement, this is ridiculous I cant wake up in the middle of the night to check if my phone has juice init to wake me up in the morning for the work. I have been using apple phones since 2008 and never came such problem . Please assist me as this phone is the main source of communicating with the rest of the world.

Have you stopped the app running in multi tasking? To do this double click your home button, select and hold any app until it jiggles. Select the no entry sign to stop the app from running.

  • My 3gs won't hold a full charge for long, and also won't stay in any ap for more than 2 minutes and shuts down. I have replaced the battery, same symptoms. Any ideas out there?

My iPhone baffles me. It started doing this and I was told it was the battery, so I replaced the battery. Nope, same issues. Here they are. After a full charge which takes only about an hour, it rapidly loses power after another hour or so. While in my apps, I can keep them open for maybe 2 minutes and they shut down. When I do the double tap to see whats running, the apps I opened are, however they are't. Wierd stuff here folks I hope someone has had this before and can help me out. I don't have a job and cant' afford a new phone.
    thanks for help in advance.

Double-tapping the home button does not show apps that are running.  This is not a task manager, it is merely a list of recently used/accessed apps.
Basic troubleshooting of the device is reset, restart, restore.  Has a reset or restore been tried?
Check to see if updates exists for the apps, this could be a simple issue of a badly coded or buggy app that needs to be updated.

  • My iphone 5, with iOS 7.0.2, is heating and consuming the battery very fast when 3G is on, even when I'm not using it. Any solution?

My iphone 5, with iOS 7.0.2, is heating and consuming the battery very fast when 3G is on, even when I'm not using it. Any solution?

iOS 7 has many multiple tasks. You can save battery life to some extent by few steps. First go to location services and bettr 'Off' them which are not needed. (Ex. Notes.. Reminders.. Etc). Also you can off few apps in 'get notifications' centre. Also usage of 3g by any mobile consumes much battery life. Better to connect any Wi-fi

  • My ipad 2 won't rotate. i tried reseting it severally my "Use Side Switch" is set to Mute and there is no rotation lock sign close to the battery sign in the upper right side

my ipad 2 won't rotate. i tried reseting it severally my "Use Side Switch" is set to Mute and there is no rotation lock sign close to the battery sign in the upper right side

The software switch is in the task bar at the bottom. Double tap the home button and swipe to the right in the bottom of the screen. The speaker icon on the left would be where the software switch would be.
If you don't see a lock icon in the upper right corner, the screen isn't locked, reboot your iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Hello - can anyone tell me why my iPad (4th Gen) screen will no longer rotate. I don't have a screen lock symbol next to the battery icon. I have the rotate icon on my desktop but still can't get the screen to rotate.

Double-click the Home button and swipe Task Bar to the right. Check the Rotation Lock on the far left of Task Bar.

  • TS1702 Purchased stray souls game but when I try playing it freezes my iPad 3 and I have to allow the battery to drain completely before I can use iPad againT

Stray souls freezing my iPad. What to do?

You don't have to let the battery drain. Quit the app if that happens again.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps.
You should delete the app and reinstall it if it keeps freezing on you. You don't have to pay for it again as long as you use the same Apple ID that you bought it with.

  • I bought an iphone 5 2 days ago and both days, the battery has drained to 20% in 12 hours....  I thought it was supposed to have 8 hours of talk time?  I haven't even been talking on it. 2 calls...  just texting.  Is there a app killer app available?

I bought an iphone 5 only 2 days ago and both days the battery has drained to 20%.  All I have done is text and make 1 call...  Are there any app killers or task killers for this phone to download?

Well, i bought two iphone 5 for me and my wife...she used it for only 2 days and she gave it back to me complaining from the same problem and she went back to her 4S, i thought she was kidding until i used mine,,,oh my god, the battery does not last for more than 6 or 7 hours, even without making any calls. i was so happy with my previous 4S as i used to charge it at night and stay almost 2 days on a stand by before recharge it again. well, im done with apple, have an appointment today in apple store to return mine, and even if they give me 2 new ones, i will not even open them,,,, for sale right away.

  • How can i extend the battery life of my iphone 4s? when i left it in standby mode when i saw in 5hours it drains to 5%, i thought when i leave the phone the percent is still the same. whant am i goin to do?

How can i extend the battery life of my iphone 4s? when i left 50% it in standby mode when i saw in 5hours it drains to 5% i saw 45%, i thought when i leave the phone the percent is still the same. whant am i goin to do?

I was not aware of the fact one could use ringtones as alarms, this will suffice! Although I foresee some very awkward times as the sound does not stop once I respond to the reminder (it keeps going for good five - ten seconds after I "stop" the reminder), but it's better than missing it altogether!
    Thank you very much!
Regarding the Alarmed app, doesn't it have to be running to actually remind you?
-Modular747: I don't know anyone who actually reads the terms of service agreement, those things are usually up to thirty, small print pages full of legal jargon. Rules, I do read - not the legal documents (also they often contradict the laws in my country, but that's a whole different story).
I agree with you - the average customer support consultant mostly cares about keeping his job and earning his salary (don't we all?) and thus racking up completted tasks (i.e. getting rid of customers as fast as possible - in a good mood). The "threat" none the less is real, if a cell phone causes me more trouble than it is worth, I will indeed throw it away (I have done so before) - and recommend a different brand to anyone willing to listen.
Don't get me wrong, I love Apple and I've been faithfully using and recommending their producs for twenty years now, not because of fanboyism, but because they earned it. This calendar issue, however, is like a toaster that doesn't automatically eject the toast at the set time. I see it as a major flaw and after googling around a bit I see that it's been around since at least 2007 (THAT'S SEVEN YEARS!!) so I strongly believe they are aware of this problem by now, but are choosing to ignore it for some mysterious reason and it really ****** me off.
I will send the feedback but based on my observations I suspect the Send button is merely a cleverly disguised Delete button.
