Is the Brother MFC-465 CN printer an AirPrint enabled printer?

Does anyone know if the Brother MFC-465 CN printer is AirPrint capable or if there is anyway to use it with an iPad please?

You do not have an Airprint enabled printer, but there are options for you.  You can purchase a printing app in the App Store, such as Print Central and Printopia.  I use Print Central (about $9) and it works great.

  • Brother MFC-295 CN printer

Greetings all, I am a fairly new person to Arch Linux, and I've been having some troubles with my printer, which, as the title indicates is a Brother MFC-295CN.  I followed the instructions from the wiki to install CUPS, and then the instructions for installing the Brother MFC-440CN, using the drivers from Brother's website for my printer.    CUPS is working, and when I perform the Add Printer operation, it is able to locate the printer.  However, when I try to print a test page, I receive an error that the printer "lpd://blahlbah/blah"  cannot be found.  Looking for some help, thanks!

I have a Brother MFC-465CN and had the same problem as you. For some strange reason that lpd://address that CUPS find does not work. Instead, go back into the CUPS printer setup (Modify Printer) and choose the device "Appsocket/HP JetDirect" then click continue and set the Device URI to: "socket://192.168.0.10:9100" where you substitute "192.168.0.10" for the actual IP address of your printer on your network.
PS: you should set a static IP address for your printer using your router, do not use DHCP or it may occasionally change the printer's IP address.

  • Printing is mirrored on Brother MFC-210; no print settings in Print Dialog

I recently purchased a new iMac. I transfered the contents of my Powerbook to the iMac. When I try to print to my Brother MFC-210 printer from any application, the result is reversed (mirrored).
On my Powerbook, the Print Dialog box for the MFC-210C includes "Print Settings" as a selection and that screen has a check box for mirrored printing. On my iMac, the Print Dialog box does not contain a "Print Settings" selection. I assume that somehow "mirror printing" has somehow been selected but I can't unselect it. Is this an OS-X problem or a printer driver problem? I have tried downloading the most up to date printer drivers without any success. Any assistance with this issue would be appreciated.

I was able to fix the problem by carefully following the instructions on the Brother website about installing the printer and downloading the driver.

  • Brother MFC-9420CN Word Print Greyscale

We have Lion along with a Brother MFC-9420CN.  We also have Word 2010.  THere was a 'show details' button when we selected to print a document and we could select grayscale to save on color ink.  Now that button is missing in the dialog.  Any ideas?

  • How do I install the Brother MFC-255CW on a Mac Airbook?

Hi there. I am a mac newbie (converted to the light side lol). I am trying to get my printer and scanner (brother MFC-255CW) working on Mountain Lion 10.8.5.
I have downloaded the "CUPS Printer Driver" and "Scanner Driver (TWAIN)". I have then double clicked the package and run the installer. Once installed I have tried to go the following:
    1. Apple symbole
    2. Go to System Preferences
    3. Print and Scan
    4. clicked the "+" sign
the list that comes up under "default" is blank. So I am not sure what to do next. Appreciate any help!
    Drivers were downloaded from here:
    http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/ca/en/dlf/download_index.html ?reg=us&c=ca&lang=en&prod=mfc255cw_all&dlid=&flang=English&os=115&type2=-1

If the printer is not appearing in the Default Add printer view, then it is either not using the same network that the Mac is or the printer does not support an advertising protocol like Bonjour. I would be surprised if it was the latter, because just about all Brother printers that I've seen do support Bonjour. So you need to determine why the Mac cannot see it.
To check the Bonjour side of things, you can open Safari and then open its Preferences. Then under one of the tabs there is an option to enable Bonjour in the Bookmarks Bar. If you enable this, you will see Bonjour in the Bookmarks Bar and when you select it, if the Mac can see the printer then it should be shown here. Do you see it?
Also, if you know the IP address of the printer, you can enter this as a URL in Safari. This should result in you connecting to the internal web page of the printer. Does this work?
If you can connect to the internal web page of the printer then you may also be able to add the printer using its IP address instead of relying on Bonjour. When you select to add the printer, change from the Default view to the IP view (click the IP icon). You can then enter the IP address of the printer, set the protocol to HP Jetdirect-Socket, leave the queue name blank, change the Name to Brother Printer and leave the Location blank. Then in the Use menu, if it does not automatically select the correct Brother driver, drop the menu and click on Select Printer Software. Then browse for the Brother printer in the list and select it. Then click OK and then Add to complete. Now see if you can print.

  • Brother MFC 7420 Not Printing From MacPro or Macbook Pro

My Brother MFC-7420 is hooked up to my iMac.  I can print form the iMac. No problem. That computer is hard wired into my Airport Extreme, as is my MacPro. I choose to be wireless for my Macbook Pro. All are in the same room.  All the settings for print and fax are checked in the iMac to allow anyone to print from the MCF-7420.  Up until a few days ago, everything was honky-dory. Then when I went to print from my MacBook Pro, last week, the printer icon that poped out of my dock indicated the printer was off line.  Ditto when I went to print from the Monitor attached to my MacPro. Short of calling Brother, does anyone know why I can print directly from my iMac, but the other two computer register "printer offline?'
    Thanks for any help

Have you already completed the troubleshooting basics, like powering off the entire network, and then powering up modem first, then each network device one at a time?

  • Brother  MFC-465CN wont Print after OS 10.5.7 upgrade

    hi all,
have just done the 10.5.7 upgrade and my printer wont print. Have reselected the printer in Systems Preferences . it then asks me to "please select driver or printer model" from a drop down menu.--There doesn't seem to be an appropriate driver listed{?] have gone to Brother site to get a driver and have installed this , but this makes no difference. I would be pleased of some suggestions about what to do next.

I had the same problem and received the following email from HP support. Problem solved!
    * Step 1: Resetting the printing system *
Please follow the steps provided below to reset the printing system:
    1. On the Apple menu, click System Preferences.
    2. On the View menu, click Print & Fax. The Print & Fax dialog box opens.
    3. Right-click (or Ctrl +click) the printer in the Printers list in the left panel and click Reset printing system. ( If the printer is not listed proceed directly to the second step)
    4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
    5. Type the correct Name and Password.
    6. Click OK to reset the printing system.
    *Step 2: Repair Disk permissions*
    1. Click to open Macintosh HD >> Applications > Utilities and double-click
    Disk Utility.
    2. On the left hand side, select the Macintosh HD directory. The directory will be indented and is usually the second entry in that list.
    3. On the right side, beneath the white box, click Repair Disk Permissions. This process might take several minutes.
    4. Once the process is completed, close the Disk Utility and restart the Computer.
*Step 3 : Readding the printer*
    1. Click Apple Icon >> System Preferences >> Print & Fax.
    2. Click the '+' button >> Add printer wizard will appear.
    3. Under "Print Using", from the drop down list, click on , "Select a Driver to use'.
    4. In the list of printer manufacturers, select Hewlett Packard >> Select HP Deskjet 990c printer .
    5. Click Add and configure this driver to use as default and restart the Mac. You should be able to print from your Mac after this.

  • Aiport won't print to Brother MFC 8500

I have an iMac with OX 10.2 ethernet connected to an airport extreme base station. The iMac is also connected to a Brother MFC 8500 printer. My Macbook can share our satellite internet connection with the iMac. The iMac has an ethernet connection to the Airport.
But when I connect the MFC 8500 to the Airport, via a parallel to USB cable--- with the USB plugged into the Airport, I can't get the Brother MFC 8500 to print wirelessly from my Macbook. I thought the USB to the MFC 8500 would send the signals I need to print over the Airport wireless network but i'm wrong it seems.
Is my printer just not compatible with Airport or is there something else I need to do? I'm going nuts.

Assuming that the iMac is near the printer, give this option a try. connect the printer to the iMac (have approriate software installed on imac). open up the sharing preferences in the system preferences. Turn on printer sharing for the imac. once it starts up, switch over to the macbook and print something. under the printer menu there should be a tab called shared printers and you will find your printer in there.
(make sure the imac is still connected to the airport base otherwise you obviously have no connection to the base to receive a connection with the macbook).
    Hope that helps

  • I have a brother MFC-J835DW printer and my ipad can not find it to print?  They are both connected to the same wirelss network via a Linksys router.  Any ideas?

I have a Brother MFC-J835DW wireless printer (which is on the list of supported printers for Airprint), and have both the IPad 2 and the printer connected to the same wireless network.  When I try to select the printer to print fromt he iPad, it cannot find the printer.  Any ideas?

The first thing to do is to make sure that your printer has the latest firmware. You can download the firmware updater from Brother:
    http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/dlf/dlf/000000/002700/d lf002793.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=mfcj835dw_us&type2=4&os=108&flang=4&dlid= dlf002793

  • HT3669 So my Brother MFC-3360C was able to scan right into my Dell laptop and now that i have upgraded my macbook pro to Lion it will only print and fax.  that stinks. now i have to get a new printer as i never fax anymore but scan to be able to email the

It looks like the Brother MFC-3360 can only print/fax with a MacBook Pro which stinks that it cannot scan ( a function on the MFC that worked on my Dell laptop).  Do i need to get another MFC that works with apple?! who faxes anymore? i need to scan and email the documents, not print and fax.  this is a very unpleasant surprise.

Brother have released compatible Lion drivers and utilities for your MFC-3360.
They are here, download and install them,

  • Moved to Yosemite, now I can't print (Brother MFC-9840CDW)

    Hi there,
I've just moved to Yosemite (at the request of GoToMeeting) and I'm now unable to print.
I have a Brother MFC-9840CDW which my MacBook Pro can no longer find.
As part of the move to 10.10.1 the Brother Printer Software appears to have updated to V2.10 (shown in App Store update page).
On this Apple page it suggests the latest version is 4.5 - OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download - Apple Support
So I downloaded a driver from the Brother site here - http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadtop.aspx?c=gb&lang=en&prod=mfc9840cdw_all
I've reset the printer settings so I'm now showing nothing in the System Preferences\Printers & Scanners.
I've restarted my Mac and the printer several times... But regardless of what I do, when I click + printer the only option I'm being shown is Adobe PDF.
    PLEASE HELP!

The printer uses a protocol called Bonjour to advertise itself on the wireless network. Many others who have upgraded to Yosemite are also finding that they can no longer see their wifi printer. At this stage I have not seen it documented as to the cause or fix for this Bonjour issue. So until such a fix is provided there is a possible workaround to attach your network printer and that is to use one of the included IP protocols in OS X. To do this you must determine the IP address of your printer. Once you have this information you can open Printers & Scanners and click the plus button to add. With the Add printer window displayed and the Default view showing, click on the IP icon. Then enter the IP address of the printer in the Address field, change the Protocol to HP Jetdirect and leave the Queue blank. You can then change the Name to something more meaningful than the IP address and in the Use menu, select the Brother MFC-9840CDW driver. Click the Add button to complete the printer creation and then see if you can print.

  • Unable to locate printer. Brother MFC-J200 CUPS

Hi, I installed cups and the printer's drivers and I can configure the printer. But, when I try to make print the test page, I get this error: Unable to locate printer BRW9CD21E90F93E.local". and I looked in the wiki and on different forums, tried different methods to solve this but I still can't print anything because it can't locate it. Anyone knows how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

You're not going to find that file. That's BRW + 12 digit hex code + .local. The hex code is likely random for each print job. It was likely never created in the first place.
That PKGBUILD has a bunch of errors. Ask the maintainer to fix it. If you would like to be able to discuss the package intelligently you can compare it with my PKGBUILD for the brother-mfc-j870dw. Here are some of the more glaring errors.
    * The cupswrapper generator can be run in build() which eliminates the install and the forgotten uninstall.
    * No uninstall section as found in the debian package. My package was able get pacman to do all the work and do away with the install completely.
    * Allows the installer to run the init scripts. Fortunately they aren't there anyways. cups doesn't need restarting to see new printers.
    * Left in the installer that modifies /etc/printcap and fixed it to use /etc/printcap. I see the word .local here so this might be the source of your error.
    * ldd shows that the executables do not use libstdc++5. No go for 64 bit users unless the 32 bit v6 is already installed.
    * The RPM is no better or worse than the DEB, except that RPM is directly supported by pacman and does not require yet another AUR download.
    * Forgot dependency on ghostscript
    * || return 1 should be removed. makepkg always has this flag set. This PKGBUILD must be ancient.
There's probably more but I'd need to fix the PKGBUILD to find them all. I'm fortunate that I started with a much better PKGBUILD than this one.

  • Printing problem in Mavericks with Brother MFC-6800

I installed Mavericks, then downloaded the Brother MFC-6800 printer and scanner drivers, then used Software Update. I continually get a message that the printer is not connected. When you pull out the USB cable the driver shows no connection but when you plug the USB cable back in it still says not connected. If you start both the printer and computer you can get one successful print but after that you can't print because it says the printer is not connected. Every time I restart there is a second Brother printer driver installed.
The scanning software from Brother hangs when trying to scan. Image Capture doesn't even see the Brother scanner.
It seems to me Brother needs to release a new driver.
    Does anyone know anything else?

    Install this driver
