Is the charger adapter for ipods the same for all generations?

I have a nano 1st generation that came with a usb cable and I bought a charger (long time ago). So, will i have to buy a new charger if i want to buy an itouch 5? Thank you.

I know the cables are not interchangeable, but how about the charger? I think the part that goes into the pc/laptop should be universal, thus it should well work with the usb power adapter, right? I have no idea what you meant by giving your sister your "iPod touch for proof". Proof of what?
The only way she could have traded it was recycling it for 10% off the cost of a new device but the Apple Store doesn't do this as far as I know for iPhones. You could take the receipt for your iPhone to the Apple Store and show it to the manager but you really need to solve this within your family.

Ihave had to buy 2 chargers due to the fact that the square adapter was left behind,,, the charger is the same color as the face plate and was not noticed. Can you buy just the square adapter instead of the whole unit?

Apple does not sell the power adapter separately from the cable. If it was the power adapter that was taken - I'm not certain from the way you phrased things - you'll have to buy both:

Just connect the new iPod to your computer and setup the iPod via iTunes (instead of via wifi).

If you log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option, you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it. Connect iPhone to Wall Charger and Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to start, this can take about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. If nothing, this means your iPhone has a hardware fault, most likely and hopefully battery.

You may need to try this More than Once... Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
Take your time... Pay particular attention to Steps 3 and 4.
After you have Recovered your Device...
Re-Sync your Content or Restore from the most recent Backup...

Note. Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything... and you must continue with the Recovery...

Some basics please, what vintage is your MBP, have you plugged anything else into the wall socket to verify that it is live? which light doesn't turn on, the charger or the MBP?
Hold the power button down for 15 seconds, wait for 2 then press it normally and see te MBP it turns on
