Is the Cloud Digital Racketeering?

Firstly I expect Adobe to remove this post almost immediately and it will be a shame if they do.. why?... well this is a conversation adobe needs to hear
As a long time user of Adobe products I am appaulled by the following...
to date a number of features adobe announced with the cloud have still not come to fruition. This is misleading and makes many of us feel uncomfortable venturing into the cloud
Adobe promised that it would have a solution to the problem of files being held hostage by a subscription model... to date we havent heard anything.... Adobe is not communcating
with its customer base about this so we can only presume the worse. The answer to files being held hostage is really some sort of perpetual licence..  Adobe may bury its head in the sand but this is the only answer
As I browse the forums I see continual problems with the cloud.. espcially relating to licencing...clearly the whole monthly rental system wasnt worked out enough...
The pricing disparity between various countries has still not be addressed... Users in Brazil were paying $95 per month.... a bad omen...Adobe is pricing not on what its product is worth but how much it can gouge from customers.... this is really not encouraging
There a still a number of countries who do not have access to the cloud.... in my country I have access but also have to pay a team licence????
There is no satisfactory way for people who live in areas using Dial up to access the cloud (more than you think)
the list goes on.... most disappointing is the user feedback about support.... I have read hundreds of post were people who pay good money to use the cloud are calling into centres where the help they receive is clearly substandard..
So I have to ask the Question do you feel the cloud is just digital Racketeering? Adobe Listen up

this is worse than mobileme, and that was awful

  • Digital booklets on iTunes in the Cloud

I cannot re-download digital booklets through iTunes in the Cloud, why this is so?

I am having the same problem! Did you ever find a solution to this problem?

  • I don't have a computer on which to convert a digital booklet in iTunes to a useable form for iBooks.  Why won't it download using the cloud like all the other media I purchase on my ipad?

I don't have a computer on which to convert a digital booklet in iTunes to a useable form for iBooks.  Why won't it download using the cloud like all the other media I purchase on my ipad?

LP content can only be downloaded on a computer's iTunes (or 1st gen Apple TV), you can't download them on an iOS device - and I haven't seen anything that say it will change in iOS 8. If you don't have a computer then at the moment you won't be able to download/view LP content
    About LP : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3823
After you buy an album with iTunes LP on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, the album's songs will download directly to the device. The iTunes LP will download to iTunes on your computer when you choose Store > Check for Available Downloads.

  • I deleted a song off my PC, and evidently from the cloud as well

I was deleting music from iTunes, most of it duplicates. I deleted a song from an album I'd purchased in October, and it's no longer on my PC or the cloud. I have it on my iPhones, iPad and iPod, but it is nowhere on my computer or the cloud. The rest of the album is there. When I go to the store it shows I purchased the album. The list of songs shows "purchased" after each title, but that button is ghosted after this particular song. I cannot find any option to download the song again; it has the ghosted "purchased" button beside it. All the other songs have a "play" button. So, I cannot even purchase this song separately so I can add it back into my library. I don't want to chance connecting one of my devices, I'm afraid iTunes will delete the song since it's no longer in my library. Please, what can I do?

    Hi cyn37211,
I can certainly understand how your music library can get disorganized with data from different sources.  It's a constant challenge for me as well to keep all of my music, photos, videos, etc. organized.  Did you ever back up your PC to an external drive? If so, you can add these files to your iTunes library.   Here's how:
Adding music and other content to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1473
Adding content on your computer to iTunes
iTunes helps you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. You can also add video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.
    Open iTunes
From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
    MacAdd to Library
    Windows
    Add File to Library
    Add Folder to Library
Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add
If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • I am trying to store music for two different iPods on the same computer, against two different Apple IDs. When I try and download content from the Cloud I get an error message?

I am trying to store music for two different iPods on the same Windows 8 computer, and when I try and download content from the Cloud I get an error message. Is it possible to have two different Apple IDs on the same computer?

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value).  You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these).  Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above.  As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.

Willy, the procdedure you describe works perfectly for AppleTV G1. In fact, I frequently play DTS music discs ripped to my iTunes library as Apple Lossless (ALAC) and synched to the ATV. What happens is that, as far as iTunes and the ATV are concerned, a conventional stereo 16/44 audio file is being played; however my reciever detects the DTS data stream, and instead of outputting static, it decodes the 5.1 channels correctly. This process parallels the way DTS discs were designed to be played back: a conventional CD player is connceted, via digital out, to a DTS-aware reciever/pre-amp and the two channels of static are recognized as 6 channels of DTS-encoded audio.
However this process will only work if the player (CD, ATV, PC, etc.) sends a "bit-perfect" 16 bit/44.1 khz data stream to the decoding device. In the case of ATV G2 and G3, as has been discussed elsewhere, the unit resmaples all audio - including 16/44 PCM (Redbook CD)  - to 16/48. While this is not a big deal for conventional audio CDs, MP3s, and AAC files, it mangles the fragile DTS datastream and renders it undecodable. The resulting static that you hear is just like the static you would hear if you played a DTS CD on a non-DTS capable system.
Sadly, I'm not aware of any easy way around this. You could use a program like Foobar (and the DTS plugin) to convert your DTS CDs to 6-ch .wav or .flac file. From there you could transcode the file to AC-3 and then mux it into a video container that ATV supports. You may need add a dummy video track, for iTunes/AppleTV to be ok with the file, though I'm not sure. This may be a lot of work.
Sorry for the bad news. I wish that the iTunes/ATV ecosystem had better multi-channel audio support.

  • Films in the Cloud now available in UK!!!!

and supposedly in 35 other countries:
    http://www.macrumors.com/2012/07/19/apple-expands-itunes-movies-in-the-cloud-to- uk-canada-australia-and-new-zealand/
This is a huge step forward for users outside of the US.
Only 3 Toy Story movies showed initially.  Now I have many more showing up including redeemed Digital Copies from Triple Play Blu Ray packs.
Some reports suggest that if you delete a digital copy from iTunes and redownload from the cloud you now get the iTunes Extras features too - can't confirm as not tried yet.
In addition previous 720p HD purchases may be available in 1080p at no extra charge.
This really is great news and an incentive to get more stuff from iTunes Store.
There are still a few downsides:
Price is often quite high compared to physical discs, and availability of HD titles is still poor.
Re-downloading from the cloud is only possible if the item is still in the store in the same 'format'
The HD from iTunes Store is still not the same quality level as a Blu Ray disc, and won't have HD audio features if you use those, but hopefully in years to come as all our internet speeds improve these things may become enhanced - I think for many users the convenience is going to kill the quality argument, the same way that MP3 players/iPods did for audio quality.
No guarantee that in 5/10/15 years iTunes store is still around.

  • I have a few movies in my itunes that wont save to the cloud how do I fix that

I have a few digital copy movies that I have downloaded from iTunes and they are not showing up in my history list and I cannot download them to my other devices. They do not have the clould icon next to them. How do I make sure that they are saved to the cloud?

Are these movies that were purchased thru iTunes?  If not that is why. The following is from this Apple document: iCloud: Backup and restore overview.
iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your device using iOS 5 or later. Once you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .....
    What is backed up
You get unlimited free storage for:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
Notes: Backup of purchased music is not available in all countries. Backups of purchased movies and TV shows are U.S. only. Previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. These movies will indicate that they are not available in iTunes in the Cloud on their product details page in the iTunes Store. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)

  • ADOBE DPS - Viewing Article in the Cloud from Folio Builder

    Hello Everyone
Learning DPS and using Indesign CC and uploaded my folio with articles to my Adobe viewer in the Cloud.
It is on show there in my library on my wife's iPad  -  BUT when I wish to download to view the file a dialogue box says 'It's ready to download but have to uodate my Adobe Content Viewer. There is also an icon at the base of the file with a page with strike through line on it.
Am on the latest Content Viewer and no update available - have signed in as me for the Adobe viewer too. I have no dialogue selection on Folio Builder that comes up to say PREVIEW ON MY DEVICE.
What have I missed to not be able to view and swipe the work I have done... Did I need to hard wire my mac to the ipad with a USB cable as I have heard (even though there is no USB port on this recent model?).
Any input would be welcome and thanks: Daz

This is noted at Digital Publishing Suite Help | DPS Bug Fix Release Notes:
With a recent July hot fix, updating the DPS Desktop Tools results in the "v32" viewer version mistakenly appearing in the Viewer Version pop-up menu. When creating a folio or editing folio properties, do not select v32—v32 folios are not compatible with the current v31 viewer apps. Instead, select v31 or earlier. (We recommend using the default v26 setting.)

  • HT4859 My ipad is backed up to the cloud.  I had to do a restore, but now I can't find my photos.  Can I retrieve them anywhere?

My son used a passcode, but then forgot what it was.  I had to do a complete restore.  However, I know the Ipad had been sync'd with iCloud.  Aren't my pictures in the Cloud?  How do I retrieve them if they are?  If they are not, then what??
    Cathy

Many users seem to have lost photos doing a restore of a device from an icloud backup.  I don't know why some backups seem to not have photos, unless they were not in the camera roll.  But, it seems they are gone unless you have been following the suggested practice of always periodically syncing photos on a device to a computer, much the same way you'd sync photos from a digital camera to a computer for archiving.
    The link describes the process...

  • How do I find out what is in the cloud so I can delete it?

This is a complete outrage.  All I did was support Apple and was told to sign in to cloud and now I am told I am using too much space.  No idea what this is about and no way to call because I cannot talk.  How do I find out what is in the cloud so I can delete it?   Is this e-mail, Word documents, or something else?  What the heck are they talking about?

It's everything that's stored in icloud: email, backups, calendars, contacts, app data (including iwork documents), .... on and on.
If you need to delete some data to recover some free storage...
You'd have to go into the various apps on a device that is also stored on iCloud and begin trimming files.
    Backups:
Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage; there, tap the device you need info on and the resulting screen lists Backup Options with which apps store data on iCloud.  Turn off camera roll and any other apps that might have a lot of data.  Then delete the backup.  That will free up space.  Photos should be regularly synced to a computer (like you store photos from a digital camera) using either USB via iTunes (on a mac use iPhoto or Aperture to move them to an album) or using photo stream. Go to Settings>iCloud and turn
    Emails:
Regarding emails, on the computer, move emails from mailboxes in icloud to those on the device.  That can also save a lot of space.
    Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage
From there you can find how much and which files are in a backup, and how much different apps use to store data files.  At the bottom of the screen is the size of the mail storage.

  • How can I store movies in the cloud and access them on my devices without having to download them to them?

    Hello,
I would like to store movies in the cloud and access them from my device without having to download them to the device because there is not enough space on the harddrive to store them on it. How would I do this? Would I have to download the movies to my PC or could I store them directly in the cloud?
    Thanks,
    Tyler

Would I have to download the movies to my PC or could I store them directly in the cloud?
    There is good news coming!
Technology experts are working on a movie storage system where YOU have physical possession of the movie.
This system stores the movie digitally on an optical disk system that will not be dependent upon a congested, complicated, and fragile network.
Because all of the data is stored only a few feet from your television, all the bottlenecks are removed.  Performance and reliability are virtually flawless.
Further, the system will not utilize any form of security codes, authentications, or passwords. Once the optical disc is purchased it can be moved around freely at will, and can even be lent or given to friends and neighbors with zero hassles.

  • HT4061 I need help with my I-phone 4S and the Cloud,  I can't locate my serial number  I also have a new 4g I-Pad  Can someone help me

I need help to locate my pictures in the cloud
When my son updated my phone early this year it wiped out all my pictues on my I-phone 4S
How do I access the cloud to view my pictures??

Do you have Photo Stream enabled with your iCloud account on your computer?
iCloud is temporary storage - limited to 1,000 photos and 30 days for each photo.
Photos/videos in your iPhone's Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera especially before installing an iOS update.

  • Why no touch apps in the cloud?

I just read the MacWorld review of cloud subcriptions and I see touch apps are not included in cloud. I was always under the assumption that touch apps were definitely part of the cloud but from what I'm reading this morning you have to buy 3 separate subscriptions to get them all. Is this a bait and switch thing or were the articles and promos misleading? I'm a bit mystified. I see the Adobe site has a footnote next to touch apps but I can't recall if it was there 3 months ago. Buying touch apps effectively adds at least 20% to cost of subscription if I'm reading correctly.
Here's one article that specifies that the cloud includes touch apps. Here's yet another article saying touch apps included.
What's up with the confusion? The touch apps are what I'm excited about and now I find I need two separate cloud subscriptions.
[edit] Okay. I see touch apps are one time purchases from Apple Store or at least that's what I'm inferring.

I suspect that given time, they will become rolled into the CC.
It's not a smart pricing plan and I doubt it will play out well. When Adobe has a bunch of touch apps no one's buying, they will roll them into CC. I mean, who else besides CC customers would be buying them?
This is the same thing that happened when Adobe insisted on having corporate pricing for the Digital Publishing Suite when everyone using it was asking for individual plans. Low and behold, that plan is now slated to be lumped into CC.
And I know that once I pay for CC, I am not ponying up money for anything extra. I'd rather do without.

  • I have some songs in Imatch that I want to download into my music. The cloud is ghosted and won't let me do this. I have yosemite 10.10.3 running on an IMac retina 5K.

I have some songs in Imatch that I want to download into "my music" on a play list. The cloud is ghosted and won't let me do this. I have yosemite 10.10.3 running on an IMac retina 5K. Really getting tired of apple making simple things hard.

    Hello discomonkey,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It appears that some iTunes Match songs appear grayed out when you try to download them to your iTunes library. If you haven't already, be sure to authorize iTunes on your iMac before downloading content from iCloud or the iTunes Store.
These steps can help you download grayed out songs to your iTunes library:
Resolve issues with iTunes Match - Apple Support
Songs containing DRM (Digital Rights Management) might not appear in iCloud, or might appear grayed out. This can occur if your computer is not authorized to play that content. Authorize your computer, then manually update iTunes Match. To find out what Apple ID your computer needs to be authorized with to play a specific song, follow the steps below:
    Open iTunes.
Locate and select the song that you want to play in your iTunes library.
From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose File > Get Info.
In the Summary tab, find the Account Name field in the right column. Write it down.
    Click OK.
From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose Store > Authorize this Computer.
Type in the account name from the Summary field and enter its password. Click Authorize.
From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose Store > Update iTunes Match.
    Best Regards,
    Jeremy
