Is the CMYK color mode available in Photoshop Elements 12?

In taking a photography course I was introduced to color printing modes in Photoshop CS6 which includes CMYK as one of the modes.  I am currently using Photoshop Elements 11 which is limited to the RGB color mode.  Does Elements 12 offer CMYK?

No, this is one of the areas where Adobe is determined to keep a difference between PSE and full Photoshop. No version of PSE has CMYK support and it's unlikely to come in a future version, either, I'm afraid.

  • Is it ok in the long run to placing a RGB photoshop eps file into a Illustrator CS2 CMYK color mode

Is it ok in the long run to placing a RGB photoshop eps file into a Illustrator CS2 CMYK color mode document ?
I am using windows XP with Adobe Creative suite 2.
In both Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2 have the same color settings.
If I take a RGB file that was created in Photoshop CS2 and place this file in a CMYK color mode document in Illustrator CS2, does this cause a problem for the output of the document ?
If you look at the ''Document Info'' window you can now see that the RGB file is now a CMYK file. Is this a good working habit ?
    Thanks in advance. :)

Please explain why you would do such a thing? (Why RGB, and why EPS.)

    Yes.
You are working in CMYK mode presumably because your Illustrator document is destined for output on a PostScript device -- e.g., a printing press. That means that your RGB image will undergo a space conversion somewhere in the process, and the questions are when and how?
The issue is compounded by the fact that Illustrator ignores color profiles embedded in EPS files by Photoshop. (Just another reason not to use EPS.)
By performing the conversion yourself in Photoshop, you take control of the process and ensure predictable color.

Does Photshop Elements 12 have a CMYK color mode?

Depending on where you bought it you may be able to return it for a full refund within thirty days. Certainly if you got it from Adobe you can return it no reason required (within thirty days).
Not quite sure why you think it is shabby though. Surely you must have realised that there would be differences between a $700 product and a $100 one.

  • Converting from pantone to cmyk color mode in Indesign CS3??

I am working on a business card for a customer, I am using Adobe Indesign CS3.
I use an outside company for the printing job called 4over (4over.com) and they require you use their cmyk pdf print engine so they can do the job properly... Basically to break it down: I am in Indesign CS3, I choose Print, and as the printer I choose their "4over pdf cmyk print engine" so the colors do not convert and the color doesnt change when they use their printers.
4over is telling me my document is in pantone color mode, they can see the pantone color 371C, but not the cmyk values.
How do I change from pantone color mode to cmyk color mode???
if anyone can help me please. I would really appreciate it.
I attached the file I sent to 4over incase that helps anyone answer my question.
    Thank you,
    Brandon

Before exporting, in the swatch panel, select your Pantone colour, right click and select swatch options. Change the color type to Process and the color mode to CMYK.
If it's a business card and you showed the client a pantone swatch, know that you won't get the same colour results. There's a very useful Pantone book available that shows swatches side by side with CMYK values.

  • Transparency in CMYK color mode

    Windows XP Pro, Photoshop CS3
It seems  that one can only retain background transparency if image file is saved in PNG or GIF file format. It also seems that one cannot save to these file formats if graphic is in CMYK color mode - one must be in RBG mode to do so. How can I retain image with transparency in CMYK color?

I am starting with a TIF image in RBG color mode, a tree with grass in the background and foreground for example. I would like to eliminate the grass, make that background and foreground transparent with the background eraser tool so that only the tree remains and that when the tree is superimposed on a second image the background and foreground surrounding the tree will be that second image. In order to make the background and foreground of the tree transparent I have to save the file in GIF or PNG format since transparency doesn't seem work with TIF files however I cannot convert the GIF or PNG files from RBG to CMYK. CMYK doesn't seem work with those file types.

You must have read my mind.  I am having the same problem.  No CMYK available or listed. I am not running Elements.  I can't imagine where it would be hiding and how would I ever know what plug in is not allowing me to access CMYK.

  • How to get the "CMYK" Color percentages?

Could you please advise me how to get the "CMYK" Color percentages of every pixel via scripting.

You have to be patched to the 10.0.2 version of FM and you must use the CMYK option with SaveAsPDF. If thee colour is defined as Spot in the FM file, it should remain as a spot colour in th PDF. However, that being said, the CMYK route is still a bit wonky (even in FM12) and you may get odd results in your PDF.
Alternatives are to make the fix in Acrobat with the Print Production tools (or even better to use a third-party tool like Enfocus Pro) or to use GrafikHuset's (now freebie) PubliPDF to convert FM's RGB postscript output to CMYK+Spot PDFs. • Automatically convert from RGB to CMYK color mode

I have over 900 barcodes provided in EPS format. When I open them in illustrator, they are coming in as an RGB color space file. I need them gray scale solid black in CMYK color mode. I can batch using actions to convert the artwork using "Edit Colors > Convert to Grayscale". However, the document color mode remains RGB. It appears, even after using "Convert to Grayscale", that the RGB color mode goofs up the placed .ai file in InDesign, treating it as RGB and seeing it as a mix of CMYK rather than the 100% black only it needs to be for proper sharp printing.
The actions pallet doesn't record converting the document color mode. Is there a way to automate that file conversion so they are all saved as CMYK rather than RGB, or am I stuck opening each of the 900+ files manually?

While recording the action, from the popup menu in the Actions Panel choose Insert Menu Item, then from the main menu choose File > Document Color Mode > CMYK color.

    What is the problem specifiaclly?
If the images are intended for web use I would recommend converting them to sRGB which could be done with Edit > Convert to Profile or with File > Save for Web, but as including a Save step in Actions and applying them as Batch can sometimes cause problems I would go with regular converting.
You could also try Image Processor Pro.

  • Exclamation in CMYK color mode

Every time I try to choose a color in CMYK it always gives me the exclamation mark with a color that isn't even close to what I'm trying to use.  When I click on the color below the exclamation, it still won't give it to me.  What is the purpose of this and how can I get it to give me the proper color?

    D3_Designs wrote:
... When I click on the color below the exclamation, it still won't give it to me...
Unlike the Color panel, the colors displayed in the Color Picker are not color managed. This means that the colors are displayed in the color space of your monitor without any correction that simulates a color space. When you click on the suggested color that is within the gamut it gives you the correct numbers but still not the correct display because the corrected values are still not displayed in the CMYK color space of the document but in the color space of your monitor. As such the Color Picker is not a reliable tool to pick color visually, instead use the Color panel. In the Color panel the color spectrum bar is color managed to be always displayed in the color space of the document so, if you pick colors from it you will never get out of gamut warning even if you use RGB or any other sliders. The actual slider portion and the fill and stroke colors are displayed in the color spaces set for the working spaces in your color settings so you may get a color outside the RGB color spectrum and get a warning only if you type the values or use the RGB or HSB sliders to get out of gamut values but not if you pick the colors from the color spectrum bar.
The Gamut warning is for the CMYK color space set in your color preferences which by default is U.S. web coated swap v2. with a a standard color space for offset printing. If you are going to use another printer, ask the print shop for the color profile file of their printer and assign it as the CMYK color space in your Color Preferences. It may give you larger gamut of colors.

  • Where can I find the colour range selection tool in Photoshop Elements 11?

Note: It is not under the Selection tab in the menu. This tool is very useful and Adobe help is making it very hard to find.

The Select>Color Range is only in the full versions of photoshop such as photoshop cs6.
As far as i know that's never been available in photoshop elements (from the factory sorta speak) except in version 3 using an action created in photoshop.
There are many other ways to make selections in photoshop elements.
As a side note and not really pertaining to your version of elements, years ago back in the pre os x days, there was a plugin for photoshop/photoshop le/pse 1 on macs quite similar in function to select>color range.

Having installed an upgrade for Photoshop Elements 13, I cannot open the application. I get an error message saying "Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. I have since uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but get the same error message.

Which version of OS X do you have? It's not clear from your post whether "installed an upgrade" means you just installed PSE 13 as an upgrade or you installed an update to PSE 13, like ACR 9 or 13.1. Please clarify.
