Is the cover artwork saved by iTunes redundantly?

Hi,
I have tried to search for this particular issue within these forums and on the internet, but I have had difficulty with the phrasing.
My question, in a nutshell is this: Does iTunes save cover artwork redundantly within the iTunes folder, separate from the original cover artwork .jpg files, and if so, can I then delete these original cover artwork .jpgs in order to save disk space?
If you are still unclear about this question or need more information, please read below.
All of my music files are kept within the Windows "Music" folder, along side my "iTunes" folder--not within the "iTunes" folder.
Example:
Music/
- Music
- iTunes
- Playlists
I have added all of my music to iTunes via the iTunes command, "Add Folder To Libray." Everything works fine, the cover artwork looks great, no worries. Within the Windows "Music" file (see above), I have separate file folders for each CD and within each of these, I have a .jpg of the CD covers' artwork. There are many of these .jpg's and they take up a considerable amount of hard drive space. I am wondering, once I have added music and artwork to iTunes, doesn't iTunes save this artwork redundantly within iTunes? Can I not just then delete the original artwork from the music's file folder and still have the artwork available in iTunes?
Thank you in advance for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Very Respectfully Yours,
John Bishop

If I've understood you correctly, you've kept yr own .jpg images of album artwork?
I think these can be deleted. I have 2500 songs in my I Tunes library & I haven't got any of my own images. In my vista music folder under I Tunes I have an album artwork folder (created by I Tunes not me) that has 750 files totalling 106 meg & that is the data I think that is imbedded with the tracks in I Tunes. See if you have this folder as well.
Incidentally I see you say you've been "adding folder" to library, but not sure what you mean on the next bit. if you've got the settings to "copy files to library" & "keep I Tunes organised" you may have more than one copy of the same song. the original & the I Tunes library copy, if you want to free up space delete the originals. If organised every artist will have a folder in the library for you to check.

  • Where is the Album Artwork saved that iTunes doesn't automatically download

I recently downloaded iTunes 7 and I love it's ability to show the album/CD art. Some of my CD's art was available on the iTunes store which the program downloaded automatically but the majority of it I had to find manually online. (Just FYI, Amazon Album Art is a fabulous widget to help with this, <www.widget-foundry.com/widgets/amazonart.htm>) Hours and hours later (large MP3 collection) I'm done. Now, as I have the same music library library on my office computer I want to have the art there as well. I copied the Album Artwork folder from my Home>Music>iTunes folder onto the office computer and launched iTunes but the only artwork visible was the artwork that the iTunes program had automatically downloaded. Where is the artwork that I painstakingly copied/pasted into the iTunes at home? Is it kept somewhere other than the Album Artwork folder?
    G4 1.25 Dual   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Artwork that you manually add in the manner you describe is embedded inside the music files themselves (i.e. inside the mp3 files are you using).
Therefore if you use those same mp3 files on another computer the artwork will instantly be available.
Power iTunes users [including myself] prefer this approach [embedding artwork] for exactly this reason. I have therefore taken any artwork iTunes 7 downloaded itself and forced it to embed it in to my music.
I also have a suspicion that simply copying the [downloaded] artwork folder to another computer would probably not work since it appears it is using reference numbers in the file names which would be different on a different computer.

  • Cannot locate the Cover Flow view in iTunes 11. Is it still active/available?

Cannot locate the Cover Flow view in iTunes11. Is it still available/active?

No. See this article for features killed-off in iTunes 11 including Cover Flow. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57556548-37/7-features-apple-killed-off-in-itu nes-11/

  • What's the album artwork size that iTunes 10 uses?

I'm importing Christmas music into iTunes and I'm scanning in most of the album artwork (as most of these albums aren't in the iTunes Store). What size album artwork does iTunes use when you download album artwork? I'd like to know so I can resize those huge scan pictures to whatever iTunes uses.

    Typically they are 600x600 pixels.

  • Has Lion fixed the "no artwork found" in iTunes screensaver?

Has anyone determined if Lion has fixed the problem experienced by many when they try to use the iTunes screensaver and get the message "no artwork found"? Trying to determine if I should quickly upgrade some family member computers to Lion that experience this unfortunate problem - and they used to LOVE the screensaver.

  • Why does the album artwork show in itunes but not on my iphone?

When im in itunes all the artwork shows but when i sync it not all of the artwork comes up on my iphone.

I guess I have successfully solved that. Somehow  predicted this problem's appearance and added a function of ID3 tags version conversion. Just convert all of your mp3 files' tags to version 2.4. worked for me, now bitrate gets downgraded and artwork is safe.
p.s.: some of the artwork (especially files that originally were higher bitrate AAC converted to 128 kbit/s) won't show the artwork in the artist or album list at first. just play any of such songs and artwork will show up.

  • Ituned cover artwork will not change

I am trying to change the cover artwork for a disk that I imported to itunes. I have used the feature in itunes under get info/artwork, and also used the program mp3tag, however neither program will change the artwork which is not for this album. I am not sure where the cover artwork came from. Also, when viewing the tag information in windows explorer, it shows the correct tag.
    Any suggestions?

A file can have more than one piece of artwork, so it may be that the wrong one is uppermost in your file and therefore shows in iTunes, while the correct artwork is buried underneath. To see all pieces of artwork, look at the Artwork tab in the Get Info window for the file. You can select and delete any piece there. You can also drag them into new positions.
The latest iTunes versions do not store artwork inside the file. They store it remotely and link it to the file when needed, an unnecessarily complicated system considering how utterly cheap the kilobytes are nowadays to store artwork inside the file. To clear that kind of artwork, right-click on the file and choose Clear Downloaded Artwork (or similar). The graphics (Ctrl-G) window of iTunes should go blank then.

  • How can I get the Cover Flow text to be in all caps

I've only had one problem with the Cover Flow application for iTunes. All of my track names, artists, and album names are in caps on my library. When I switch to the Cover Flow view some songs are displayed with all caps, while others have the song and album in caps, but the artist is in lower case.
I've gone through all of my files and all of them have been correctly entered in all caps, yet Cover Flow still does not display them correctly. I've even gone through every album, got info, and made sure everything was in all caps. Still no succcess.
    Any suggestions?
How about creating an option button to control Cover Flow's functioning on the next iTunes version? That would be nice.

    Thanks, jere7my.
In other words, I should always make changes to my song text with the Cover Flow view selected.
I would never have the Cover Flow view selected while importing new albums, tracks, and artwork. I switched back to it after I was done personalizing my stuff. Thats when I started to notice they were still in lower case, even though I had changed them.

  • Movie Preview Photo (Cover Artwork)

    Hello,
I recently finished my first movie made up of only an assortment of photos. I used the scrapbook theme w/ transitions and some Ken Burns affects. After publishing the movie the initial photo ( the cover artwork, or the preview photo, I'm not sure what it's called) is not the first photo in the movie. It's the third? Does this make sense? How do I select the first photo in imovie to be the one that's used for the cover/artwork/preview when the movie is published? And why doesn't it use the "scrapbook" picture or theme when it generates the movie?

I guess my question is in general. Any time I render a video out of iMovie. I'd like the ability to select the poster frame rather than iMovie defaulting one for me. When I share the movie to iTunes iMovie sets the poster frame, as you explained to default picture, that can't be selected or modified. If the only way to do this is processing it in QuickTime Pro then I'll go that route, but it just seems like an obvious feature that should be part of iMovie, If you're making a movie about a specific topic wouldn't you want to be able to select the picture/movie clip that best represents the subject? If I'm way off track and I'm going to have to go the QuickTime route just let me know....
    Thanks for the advice.

  • I dropped my iPod Touch in a puddle on a camping trip and I sent it to the Pod Drop.  I just want to get the pix of my family(I have no copies of them) from the device.Do pix from the iPod Touch save in iTunes when it Syncs?  If so how do I find them?

I dropped my iPod Touch in a puddle on a camping trip and I sent it to the Pod Drop.  I told them that I am only concerned about getting the photos of my family and friends from the device.  I know that all of the songs are saved in iTunes on my computer.  They told me that they were not able to retrieve the pictures from my device.  I recently sync'ed my iPod Touch before it broke.  Do the photos that I save on my iPod Touch save to iTunes or to my computer when I sync the device?  If so, how do I retrieve those pictures from iTunes or from my computer?
Also, if I buy a new iPod Touch how can I transfer my songs from iTunes to the new device?
    Thanks!
    Luke

Photos taken by and saved to the iPod are included in the backup that iTunes makes evetime you sync or if do a manual or iCloud backup.
Per the following the backup includes:
    iTunes: About iOS backups
Camera Roll (Photos, screenshots, images saved, and videos taken. Videos greater than 2 GB are backed up with iOS 4.0 and later.)
Note: For devices without a camera, Camera Roll is called Saved Photos.
Thus if you backed up after the photos were taken yuo can restore an iDevice from that backup

  • Scratchy Sound When Sliding Through Covers in Cover Flow View in iTunes 8

Anyone having problems with a scratchy sound as you slide through covers in the cover flow view in iTunes 8?
Also sliding too fast has caused app to crash.

The scratchy sound seems to have come up a few times with iTunes 8 (including in a couple of other threads that I can't find right now). It seems to have picked up around the last QT update, which was coincident with the iTunes upgrade.
    (post updated)
I must admit, I didn't read closely at 7:30 in the morning, and didn't see this was just happening to OP with cover flow.
But there have been a number of people (including me) complaining of general scratchiness in iTunes 8 and AirTunes that seems traceable to the last QT update. Be glad you aren't in my situation, where it's ALWAYS scratchy.

  • A diagonal line across every cover in the cover flow view

I have a black diagonal line across every cover when use the cover flow view. Even in the iTunes store, in the tv shows or music videos, in cover flow view, I still see a black diagonal line across the cover.
I reinstalled iTunes 7.0.2 a few times, but the problem still remains.
    Verypong.

Had the same problem too. Also the problems of bottom text (which displays number or songs, amount of time etc.) displayed incorrectly with maximized windows; some part of iTunes 7 would turn black when I resized its internal columns/windows; and the annoying resource-eating habit that caused maximizing/restoring other windows slowing to a crawl.
So far, my solution is going back version 6.
Please fix the problems soon, Apple! I didn't have problems like this with Windows Media Plyaer 11 beta!

  • How do i find a file that was saved to itunes from turbotax for ipad?

i used the turbotax 2011 app do to my taxes last year.  the returns were saved to itunes.  i cannot find them in itunes.  any suggestions?

It is wierd that Apple wants you to use iTunes for everything regarding content on our iDevices but then they add a Video App to the iPhone, iPad and we are just supposed to understand after years of training to use iTunes that our purchased videos are here and not in iTunes.
I initially assumed that the Video App was for watching videos I shot using my camera app.  But noooo!!, They are in the Camera Roll.

  • ITunes can't get album artwork for songs iTunes has in the store... how do i fix this?

i have a bunch of songs that either have the wrong album artwork or none at all.  the weirdest thing is that some of the albums are SOLD on iTunes. in fact, if i highlight one of my songs in iTunes, Ping sees it and shows me the correct cover art. BUT when i click "get album artwork", it tells me it cannot find the artwork. i've tried matching the text (song title, album title, artist, genre) exactly as it is in iTunes, but that doesn't help. it is doing this for about 60 of my albums and i don't know how to fix it. how can i get it to find the artwork?
also... when iTunes finds the WRONG artwork, how can i direct it to the correct one?

Albums, artists and complications must match precisely for iTunes to get a hit.  If you have a compilation, chances are you have a 'various artists' for an album artists ... there is a bit of a science to it.  I've managed to get most of my 'picky ones' to match.  But I have some that just won't - for whatever reason.

  • ITunes Missing Album Cover / Artwork Search feature (future update)

    Hi,
I would like to request a future iTunes search function.  I know that iTunes allows you to save a Notifications report after you "Get Album Artwork" feature for missing covers or issues where it could not find Album covers.  However, can you add a function where you can list all the tracks/albums where iTunes could not find the album cover within iTunes, almost similar to the view, Show Duplicate Items function.  It would be great to list all the songs without covers within iTunes itself, so that one can work on fixing all the tracks with issues.
    Thanks
p.s. still waiting on 2-way sync feature request, its been years now since i first requested.  For example, if you create an on the fly playlist on your iOS device that iTunes imports the playlist and merges any metadata updates, instead of creating duplicate playlists, etc.
