Is the current Macbook ok to buy?

I have been recently wanting to buy the Macbook, 2.0GHz, White. I heard they were having a lot of problems with the previous models and was wondering if Apple has solved all these problems. First of the battery problem, of having it heat up too much too quickly. Second, the Random Shutdown Syndrome (which is a seriously huge problem), and the fact that the keyboard gets dirty a lot very quickly. Can anyone tell me if these things have been solved or that they continue to be problems for a lot of people. Thanks in advance!

I bought my MacBook soon after they came out, it is fast, reliable and does everything I have asked it to do so far, including video editing, podcast creation word processing and storing and playing my huge itunes and iphot libraries. My experience tells me that the vast majority of MacBook owners have the same experience as me, I only post when I have problems with my (four) Macs, and I have not posted too many questions in the last few years!
I really think that if you are in need of a portable computer and you can't afford or don't need the dedicated graphics card etc, etc that the MacBook Pro offers, then the MacBook is a wise choice.
Regards,
Richard

Yes, it is in the United States and Canada. In other countries, the LL will be something else.

  • Current 13 inch keyboard layout is it the same as the  current MacBook Pro

Iv'e been looking at a refurb 13 inch Air and noticed the enter key is the same as the current MacBook pro. Is this the current layout or the old style
    Thanks

I think you are referring to the Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook. It's an Unibody computer, and this MacBook has got a non-replaceable battery. You have to take the computer to an Apple Store or reseller to get your battery replaced.
The steps of the link you gave are for non-Unibody MacBooks Pro, that have got a replaceable battery. In this case, you have to buy the battery from the Apple Online Store

  • Is the current macbook going to crack as well?

I want to buy the current macbook (not the ones coming out soon) but I've also seen some bottom right or left of the white macbook cracked on some websites. I am not sure if it is the current model or the previous ones.
I've heard apple has solved this problem, but not very sure....
If it also happens to the current model, I will consider to wait for the newer ones.
Can someone please help me verify this?

The odds are against it, but I wouldn't hold my breath if someone is doing something that mistreats it badly. You have to remember, regardless of the material, there are some levels of stress no material can handle. See the suggestions I offer here to avoid problems like that:

  • Hi. Which of the current macbooks has a keyboard similar to a macbook pro 2012 model?

    Hi,
I was in PCWorld the other day and tried out the keyboards on a number of the current crop of MacBook Pros and Airs. I have used a number of thinkpads over the years and so I guess I'm kind of used to a certain type of keyboard which gives good tactile feedback and where the keys have a fair amount of 'travel' which I felt wasn't the case with the new macbooks. However, this was not the impression I had when I tried an older MacBook Pro (non-retina) which had a noticeably different feel to it - the keys seemed to be higher and there appeared to be a greater amount of travel - the end result being a much better typing experience. My question is, do any of the current MacBook models have the same keyboard of typing 'feel' of the older MacBook pro?
    Thanks in advance.

Sorry about the typo in the last sentence. It should read: 'My question is, do any of the current MacBook models have the same keyboard or typing 'feel' of the older MacBook pro?'

  • Should i get the current MacBook Pro or the new design MacBook pro 2012?

    Dear all,
GImme some opinions which to choose? Should i wait for the supposedly new design MacBook Pro? or get the current models that hae pretty good specs? I'm doing college at the moment and my current laptop is 4yrs old in need of a new one and hopefully get the 17" MBP coz the specs seem amazing. I'm doing graphics and multimedia so i would need a laptop that can handle all those stuff and be fast. So gimme some ideas what you think abt the current MBP and the soon to come new models? which is something pretty doubtful.

Hold off the buying. The current unibody macs are the last of the generation. A geenration that's in it's 4th year.
You might want to consider upgrading your current hard drive only to an SSD if your mac supports it. You can then move this over to your new mac. That's what I have done, and the speed difference of an SSD makes it feel like a new machine.
I would also suggest you buy a 15" and not a 17" save your money. The 17 is loking carrying a surfboard around.

  • Which of these cables is better for the current Macbooks?

I have a 2008 Macbook, with the mini displayport that can't output audio. I decided to rectify this by buying this cable, which combines video from mini displayport and audio from USB into an HDMI cable:
    http://www.kanexlive.com/products/iAdapt20.html
now, I might be getting one of the new Macbook Pros that will be coming out in the next month or so, or one of the current models if the new ones take too long. so i'm wondering if I should replace the cable I have with one of these:
    http://www.kanexlive.com/products/mdphdmi10ft.html
    or
    http://www.kanexlive.com/products/iAdaptV2.html
should I go ahead and get the upgrade? I figure it would be an improvement since those give better quality audio. I'm also wondering how my current cable would perform when plugged into a MDP that send audio on its own. could that cause a problem, since I would be out putting audio through 2 ports into the same cable? also, I wonder if the newer cables might have any problems due to getting power from the MDP instead of USB, I don't know whether that makes a difference or not.

It doesn't matter which one you get since the Atom CPU has a 667MHz FSB.
If you install 800MHz RAM, it will simply run at 667MHz.

  • Is the current MacBook Pro right for me?

    I'm looking into purchasing a 17" MBP, 2.8GHz, 8GB RAM and 7200 RPM 500GB HDD.
Now, I'm trying to tiptoe around this subject as speculation is frowned upon here, so please forgive me if I happen to accidentally cross any sort of speculating line.
Anyway, I need a machine that's portable (not ultraportable), able to smoothly and easily work with large audio/video/image files (Logic Studio, Final Cut, Photoshop, etc), and occasionally do some gaming. I'm sure this particular MBP would be able to do the trick.
HOWEVER, with all the rage regarding Sandy Bridge processors and a possible MBP refresh soon, one thing has got me curious. (Sorry for the speculating here.)
My understanding is that the current MBP has integrated as well as a dedicated video card, and IF a Sandy Bridge MBP was released, it would be switched to integrated video. Basically, I'm wondering if these integrated graphics would be a negative thing for someone like me. I know in the past, integrated graphics have been less than stellar.
I also understand that Sandy Bridge features great energy saving and performance upgrades, which are of course welcome. I'm not impatient, so I can wait for a refresh, but if it's going to have a negative impact on what I need it for, I'd rather get a hold of the current MBP while I still can.
As I said, I apologize for any speculation or "bad things" in this post.

    Great posts guys! Thanks.
I am aware of the recall, and like I said, I've got no problem waiting. I believe Intel has already announced they will start shipping again soon. An interesting note here. Since only the four SATA II connections on the board were faulty, the two SATA III connections were fine, some manufacturers may still use the "faulty" boards. I don't think I'd be bothered too much by connections that I'd never be able to use not working properly. Assuming no other problems would arise.
Anyone have any more input on the dedicated/integrated graphics situation? Could Apple still include a dedicated graphics card along with these Intel integrated graphics?
    Thanks again!
    -Chris

  • Which generation for the current macbook pro 13?

Which generation proccessor the macbook pro 13 normal and retina currently selling in apple store?
    Which should I go for?

    vzhen,
you can get the non-Retina model with either a 2.5 GHz Core i5 or a 2.9 GHz Core i7 Ivy Bridge CPU. You can get the Retina model with either a 2.4 GHz Core i5 Haswell, a 2.6 GHz Core i5 Haswell, or a 2.8 GHz Core i7 CPU.
You should go for whichever model best meets your requirements.

  • I'm wondering if the current MacBook air on the online shop have the "force touch" or not

i just placed an order online to get MacBook air 13" but I'm wondering if I will get the one with the force touch new feature or not? Any clue?

Not according to the "Tech Specs" from http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-air
Multi-Touch trackpad for precise cursor control; supports inertial scrolling, pinch, rotate, swipe, three-finger swipe, four-finger swipe, tap, double-tap, and drag capabilities
The MacBook Pro with Retina display "Tech Specs" section of http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-pro shows that it has
Force Touch trackpad for precise cursor control and pressure-sensing capabilities; enables Force clicks, accelerators, pressure-sensitive drawing, and Multi-Touch gestures

  • How tall are the current Macbook Airs with lid open?

I ask this because I'm interested in buying the 11" or 13" and want to position a monitor behind it but it needs to be higher than the screen of the Air.

It's going to vary a little depending on the angle of the screen but my 2011 13" Air is 9" high with the screen at a 90º angle.

  • Is the current MacBook more reliable running Windows than a MacBook Pro?

I have a newish Santa Rosa/Penryn based MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, I have to run some apps under Windows and am running XP most of the time. However, the MacBook Pro has proven to be a poor choice for this. I get a Windows Blue Screens of Death on a frequent basis (more frequent than I ever seen on any non-Apple notebook). Burning DVDs take almost 30 minutes now (it used to take 10 minutes). The wifi drops constantly. Audio glitches most of the time. It is really frustrating and has only gotten worse with time and updated drivers.
I have a MacBook for work that I run MacOS (and the OS from my employer) on and it seems to work more nicely that my MacBook Pro.
Does the MacBook run Windows XP more reliably that the MacBook Pro?

In this context, I think Kappy was suggesting that "defective" meant that your
XP had either not installed correctly or the installation had become corrupted.
I know it's a complete pain and would waste at least a day, but I'd be tempted
to reformat the Boot Camp partition and try installing again from the Win XP CD.
The BSOD issue with the MBP has been present since early on and reported by others as well. The problem is with the Apple supplied driver(s). (I have run diagnostic tools that point to the wifi driver being part of the problem, but not the entire problem. I suspect that there might also be an issue with the touchpad driver, but I haven't run any tests to verify that.) I just don't get the sense that Apple has much motivation to fix the problem(s). The nature of the BSOD problem (as reported by the BSOD) is something that could lead to the other problems that I have observed.
I have had my MBP for a few months with no sign from Apple that the issue is being addressed. The MBP is a great machine, but unless someone ports all of the apps that I need to MacOS X, I need to run Windows better than it does.
So, any more reports on how well XP runs on a MacBook?

  • Have the current macBook Pro (13") using OSX

I have made a mess of everything to the point where I probably should start fresh and reload everything. Is there some way I could reset to original factory settings?

Restart your MB and hold the command R.
That will boot in recovery mode.
Make sure you have internet connection.
You'll have options to install in factory default

  • Can the current Macbook Pro 13 inch run Color?

Under Minimum Requirements, it says it needs a bigger display. Can it still run, even if it is a little small, or will it refuse to run altogether?

Double click on the screen icon and find out!
I doubt it, though. The minimums are pretty hard-and-fast, mostly because the UI is absolutely inflexible. There are hacks for re-setting the minimums at an OS level, but the results are unpredictable and usually result in an unusable install. Mostly because users can't read the tiny print on the buttons.
