Is the Dell UZ2215H multimedia monitor supported by the Mac Mini mid-2010 running OS X Mavericks?

I have hooked up a new Dell UZ2215H multimedia monitor to my Mac mini which recognizes the Dell model but does not recognize the built-in HD webcam or allow control of the internal speakers for sound output on the Dell monitor.  I have used both an HDMI cable and a Displayport cable with the same results. I searched the Apple Support which does not indicate that a driver is required for the Dell monitor.  Dell Support has not been very useful in resolving the incompatibility of their multimedia monitor.

I have used the UZ2715H which is part of the same family of monitors and the webcam and speakers work fine. You need to connect a USB cable between the screen and the Mac for the webcam to work. With regards to the speakers it is 'normal' for HDMI or Displayport connected speakers to not allow the Mac to control the volume. Apple take the point of view that the output device - in this case the display but for HDMI often a TV should be responsible for controlling the volume not the source device i.e. the Mac. If your using the built-in speaker on a Mac the Mac is both the source and the output device and therefore does let you control the volume.
If you do need to control the volume since you cannot do it on the Mac you will have to use the 'on screen display' on the Dell screen and the buttons on the bottom right part of the screen. This will tell the Dell screen itself to adjust the volume.
No driver was needed to use the webcam. I was using Mavericks.
PS. While I can understand and accept Apple's view that the output device should be responsible for controlling the volume (for HDMI and Displayport connections) it would be possible to have the output device do the volume adjustment but still allow the Mac to tell the output device to adjust the volume. There is a standard called CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) which allows sending commands down the HDMI cable to - in this case tell the output device to adjust the volume. Unfortunately Apple do not currently support CEC. I suggest people send requests to Apple for this feature to be added, also unfortunately this will require a new Mac with the facility it cannot be added be via a software change.

  • Does the Mac mini mid-2010 have an active PFC power supply?

I'm about to buy a UPS unit to run my NAS, and I'd like to connect my Mac mini to it as well. Does the Mac mini mid-2010 model have an active PFC (power factor correction) PSU (power supply unit)?
I've read that if it does (as the Dell XPS series do), then one of the cheaper UPS units won't work because those typically have modified/simulated sine wave outputs (you'll only notice when the power is out and the UPS is feeding power from its battery). It would mean I'd have to buy one of the more expensive UPS units like APC Smart-UPS SC620 or CyberPower CP1000PFCLCD.
I can't seem to find any resources that explain this. Please?

FWIW, I use one of these:
    http://www.cyberpowersystems.com/products/ups-systems/soho-ups/cp425slg.html?sel ectedTabId=overview&imageI=#tab-box
for my HTPC setup.  I have a 2010 Mini with a couple of USB drives plugged
into it, my 42" Samsung LCD TV, cable modem, cable box, and an Airport Extreme
Base Station running off of the backup power ports (not my 5.1 receiver for obvious
power reasons).  With all on, I get enough time to gracefully power down the Mini with
time to spare when power goes out.  When not watching TV or listening to music,
the cable modem and AEBS can run a long time during a power outage.
I have had this setup for around 2 years and have had no ill effects on any of
the gear and I do periodically have everthing powered then yank the AC
    cord to cycle the battery.

  • Why is not Mac Mini mid 2010 airplay supported in Mountain Lion?

I am really disappointed that a two year old computer mac mini mid 2010 is not supported for airplay in the new OS release Mountain Lion.
I do not think it can  be HW related, I think it is the marketing people at apple who are greedy. I am willing to pay for the software upgrade but I don't want to buy a new computer every year. Bought mac for premium price since I thought it would last longer and have HW that is supported.

Actually I was not after the video part in Airplay more the Airtunes part which is working on my machine in Itunes. I hoped there now would be support for the audio part of Airplay in any program so that I could play spotify from my mac to my airplay capable airport express. Today I am using my Ipad or Iphone to airplay spotify which is working great, but say I want to have some music on my stereo while watching a youtube video on the Ipad then the spotify stream is stopped and the video i airplayed instead, anoying. Yes I now there is a third pary solution for this http://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/ but why is not this built right into the OS?
Regarding the video part of Airplay you are probably right that  the Mac Mini mid 2010 may not have the on the fly HW encoding. But what about using the processor DualCore 2,66MHz and perhaps some reduction in video quality if needed.
I have already tested this with this open source program that turns your mac mini into an apple tv http://ericasadun.com/category/airplayer/
There is now a commercial program available http://bananatv.net/ , again I expected this to be built right into the OS by apple but maybe I should not compare apples and bananas :-)

  • I have a Mac mini mid 2010. I have ML installed on one of the 500GB disks. I want to install Boot Camp on the 2nd 500GB disk. Mine is XP Professional.

I have a Mac mini mid 2010. I recently installed ML on one of the 500GB disks. I want to install Boot Camp on the 2nd 500GB disk. Mine is XP Professional. My original OS was Snow Leopard Server edition. Please let me have your suggestions and advice. Thank you. I am in India.

Mountain Lion Boot Camp no longer supports Windows XP, it would also only prepare the same physical disk you run the Boot Camp Utility from i.e. the Mountain Lion disk.
    See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4818#3
I suggest you start off with the second drive formatted as a single HFS+ volume with a GUID partition scheme, then install Snow Leopard on it. Then boot with Snow Leopard and run its version of Boot Camp utility, when you tell it to prepare the (second) drive you can tell it to allocate the minimum to Snow Leopard and the maximum to Windows. Then you can install Windows XP.
Note: Boot Camp Utility was not included with Snow Leopard Server.

  • Formatted mac mini (mid 2010) - need to reinstall and have lost the original discs, Formatted mac mini (mid 2010) - need to reinstall and have lost the original discs

Hi guys I have a mac mini mid 2010 that I stupidly reformatted the hard drive to give it to a friend, thinking it would be easy to reinstall - I haven't got the original system discs cause again I'm dumb!!!!!!!!! And I am struggling to get it reinstalled, what is the best method to install this? Would a 10.6 retail version run?

    1. Phone Apple Support and order replacements.
    2. Only if it's newer than the computer.

  • Format the mac mini server 2010

    Dear Friends,
    good day
I have a Mac mini 2010 running OS X snow leopard server, when I bought it I had after few days later some booting issues ,, hence I visited maintenance center & they just format it and every things going fine after the initial setup.
Few days later I had issues with the web service (wiki) ... that's make me decided to format the Mac mini by using the installation DVD which come with it.. since I don't have an external super drive I use what they called remote disk function by inserting the server OS X installation DVD on my iMac 20" Intel 2006 and use the DVD remotely through wireless/Cable.
The wired thing when I choose the distention to install the os in the Mac mini server it gave me an error the you can't install an older version to this volume !
I never had such issues with my other Macs,, did any one face such problem ??
Thank you in advance for helping me out.
    cheers mates

The problem is your mac os x server version is more updated than your Mac Os server DVD version . if you want to completely reformat and install it from the beginning you need to reformat the hard drive using disk utility ?

  • Where is AirDrop on the mac mini? Not in the side bar...

I cannot find AirDrop on mt mac mini. It is not in the sidebar, and it does not appear in the list  of sidebar items in Finder Preferences/Sidebar/Advanced.
The computer is connected by ethernet to cabe modem and has wireless on. On the other hand, I can see AirDrop on my laptop, which is connected to the same wireless network. Both computers are on Lion.
    Themis

Was just going to post the list of machines that can use AirDrop ;0
According to Apple, these are the models that will work with AirDrop
    MacBookPro (Late 2008 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)
    iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)

  • HT202856 Can the Mac Mini (Late 2014) support 4k display @ 60 Hz via the DisplayPort?

    Dear Experienced Apple Guru,
Apple made it clear on the Tech Specs for the Mac Mini (Late 2014) that a 4k display can be supported via the HDMI port at 30 Hz. But, can we also be clear how many Hertz the Mac Mini can handle with a 4k display via the Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt 2)?
I have a site linked here saying that the DisplayPort 1.2 can handle up to nearly 20 Gbps, thus can handle 4k display at 60 Hz:
"DisplayPort version 1.2 can support video resolutions of up to 3840 x 2160 pixels (4K) at a refresh rate of 60 Hz, and it supports all common 3D video formats. In terms of bandwidth, it can manage 17.28 Gbps. Version 1.3, when it arrives, will support up to 8192 x 4320 (8K) resolution, or two simultaneous 4K streams. It will also double bandwidth to 32.4 Gbps.
Meanwhile, HDMI version 1.4 is the most common at the moment. This supports the same 4K resolution as DisplayPort 1.2, but at just 30 Hz (or 4096 x 2160 at 24 Hz). HDMI 2.0 is new on the scene in a few devices such as this Sony TV. This doubles the refresh rate to 60 Hz as well as increases bandwidth from 10.2- to 18 Gbps."
    Thanks,
    Trevalyn

That have enabled DP 1.2 on their monitor and used a DP 1.2 cable but still only get 30 Hz at 4K.
The MAC does not support MST

  • How do I Connect Dell E2211H monitor to a PPC Mac Mini???

How do I connect a Dell E2211H monitor to a Mac mini (PPC)

It looks like the Dell E2211H has both VGA and DVI inputs and the Mac mini (original) has a DVI output port.
So all you need is a good DVI Cable to connect that Dell to the Mac Mini.

Yes. You can use the thunderbolt ports with either DVI or HDMI adapters to connect the screens to.

do I need to buy any type of cable?   the conectors it has are
    15-pin mini D-sub (VGA) / HDMI (x1) , HDMI/MHL (x1)

    Those monitor's will work fine.
One will connect to the Mac Mini's HDMI output port using the supplied HDMI cable.
For the other you will need either a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter or better yet a Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter.

Either will work for the second monitor, but personally I would go with the (Digital) HDMI adapter instead of the (Analog) VGA adapter.

  • The best monitor for the mac mini?

    Hey Everyone!
I am interested in getting the Mac Mini 2012 with 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 and 4 GB of 1600MHz DDR3 memory and Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB. But I'm struggling trying to figure out what monitor will suit me best.
I'm looking for a monitor that's between 23' and 26' and I'm looking to use it by connecting the HDMI into my future Mac Mini and be getting 1080p with it. I'm mainly looking at a Dell or a Samsung monitor. I could really use some help and get some advice from comments on what monitor will make it run very smoothly!
    Thanks!

Most Mac users who can't afford or justify buying the Thunderbolt display go with the Dell UltraSharp monitors. Excellent quality and reliability. I have two!

i have a mac mini mid 2011, this device have; 2,3GHz and 2 Gb Memmory.I want to upgrade the memory and i need the list of supported memory modules. i am from turkey.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Mid 2011 Mac mini supports 8 GB of memory officially, but you can install up to 16 GB of RAM, so you can use 2, 4 and 8 GB modules. You can buy more RAM from OWC or Crucial.
If you are looking for memory at a local shop, make sure you buy 1333 MHz DDR3 memory. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4432?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Well, I really would love the new unreleased mac pro however , I'm not sure of the expected cost , Everyone speculates from $3,000 to $8,000, in which I may have to wait a while to purchase.
To the point .... I want fully functional thunderbolt ports to be on the current mac pro's .... wonder if anyone had workarounds yet?...  or could I chain the the current mac pro to a mac mini to make that happen?
