Is the dock port 3rd gen compatible?

I know -- this question has probably been asked about a million times, but my search didn't bring up anything definitive.
I have a lot of money invested in a car stereo system that works with my 3rd gen iPod via the dock connector. Any chance the same connector will work with the nano? Or perhaps some kind of convertor cable?
If not I'll just keep my 3rd gen on life support (works fine but battery will probably need replacing) but the nano is awfully tempting otherwise... <g>

Thanks, Colin -- after thinking about it some more I came to the conclusion that even if the Nano port was different my Alpine car system had to have some kind of adapter available since it was listed as supporting the Nano.
I appreciate your response -- this forum has changed so much since the "old" days (when I was a level 4 a question would never go unanswered for more than an hour or so) but it's nice to know there are still some helpful folks around.

  • Does the docking port need to be recognized???

I cannot charge my iPod shuffle 2nd generation,
when I plug it into the docking port the shuffle gets recognized fine by iTunes and starts to flash amber for about 20 seconds.
After this 20 seconds of flashing the light stops and doesn't come back on again- I have waited for a couple of minutes, am I being impatient?
Also the docking port does not get recognized by my computer, is this because it is just a cable or should i be able to unplug it via the eject hardware thingie
I am new to this so I may be doing something simple wrong, when I charged it for the first time it never went solid amber or green, just kept flashing

IF your Shuffle shows NO light after the flashing amber, it is NOT charging...which may mean that the USB port isn't supplying adequate power. Are you plugging the dock's cable DIRECTLY into a USB port on the back of your computer. Do NOT use a keyboard USB port.

    Not significant.

When it's flashing it's either in use by iTunes or your computer thinks the Shuffle is a data storage drive. Either EJECT it in iTunes OR "Safely remove hardware" in the system tray. The light should turn solid orange and after some number of hours, green.

  • Is it safe to use the new ipad (3rd gen) while on charge

I have the New Ipad (3rd Gen) 32gb wifi onlymodel,, and I use it while on charge i notice that it took way longer to charge while i use... will in not damage the devoce nor the batter if i use it while on charge?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. Hi there!!...my ifone4s is no longer producing sound of any description with the exception of the earphone jack!!! I am running iOS 6.1.3....i have tried reset, restart and restore----no joy....i have cleaned the dock port and speaker and mike area ----no joy! Now my question,,,is this a hardware malfunction or a bug from the iOS???..this is a replacement fone (march 2013)  my previous fone suffered a wifi antennae breakdown after an iOS update!!,,,covered under warranty...this fone is now given trouble,,is this fone covered under warranty surely li should get more than three months outta my new fone - no???...any advice or help from anyone will be greatly appreciated especially as regards warranty...thanks in advance for looking...

If you use eabuds or headphones on occasion, try inserting and removing the earbuds/headphones several times in a row.
An exchange under warranty remains under the same warranty period as the original purchase. If an exchange under warranty is provided within the last 90 days of the warranty period, the exchange includes a full 90 days of warranty coverage.

  • Cleaning Lint/Dust/Dirt From the Docking Port, Headphone Jack, Mic & Spkr

Does anyone know if you spray canned air (Dust Off) into the docking port, headphone jack, mic & speaker ports, if the air will blow the lint/dust/dirt deep into the phone or possibly under the screen where you can't get it back out?

i just use a toothpick and dig it out. the dock port and headphone jack are fairly closed off so the chance of pushing the lint / gunk in deeper is pretty low. so far no issues

  • Weird problem with the apple tv (3rd gen) playing choppy iTunes Music

I have a weird problem with the apple tv(3rd gen) when i use my macbook pro to play itunes music via airplay the music is extremely choppy however that only happens if I have both my mac and apple tv connected to the same 5 ghz band on my dual band wifi network if i switch either one of my mac or apple tv to the 2.4 ghz band it works fine. I would like to find a solution instead of having to do this work around because i prefer my 5 ghz band for both my mac and apple tv and have my other things connected to my 2.4 ghz.

5 GHz, so far as I'm aware transfers no more data than 2.4 Ghz. There are other things involved that might help data through volume such as the wifi standard or dual width channels, but essentially if you compare like for like they are they same for the amount of data they can send. The main advantage of 5GHz is that it's less susceptible to interference and potentially more private.
It's possible that you have different issues on each band, I couldn't say at this time but have you checked for interference.

  • Washed clothes with the ipod suffle 3rd gen in the pocket.

Washed clothes with the ipod suffle 3rd gen in the pocket.
Now when turn it ON, it showed green light for two-three seconds after charging it in computer for 20 minutes and then nothing. It does not play anything, nothing hears after pressing any button. Its been like this for last 5-6 days. However, it recognizes in the itunes and shows the songs. I tried syncing it in a different computer, it was recognized there also. Still it is not working.
    What to do?
    plz help

    1. If the device was wet you should not have turned it on or connected it to the computer, as you may have caused more damage.
    2. Let the iPod dry out fully. To help it do this, store it in a sealed container with some dry rice. The rice will absorb the water from the iPod, leave it at least 3-4 days before you try it again.

  • Dock for 3rd Gen. iPod Won't Work w/ 5th Gen. iPod?

I have a third generation (G3) iPod, which came with a docking station and an iPod-to-firewire cable. I also have a fifth generation (G5) iPod, which did not come with a docking station, but did come with an iPod-to-USB cable.
I can charge the G3 iPod using the dock and the firewire cable, but the G5 iPod won't charge using that same dock, nor will iTunes recognize the G5 iPod. Even if I plug the USB cable into the dock instead of the firewire one, it won't charge or get recognized.
Am I doing something wrong, do I need a different cable, or do I need to get one of the new docking stations? If the latter, will that docking station work with both my G3 and my G5 iPods?
    - Keith

Yes, the universal dock with work with the 3rd generation iPod--you can check the specs through the Apple Store's product description page. I also know that you can't charge the 5th Gen iPod using the 3rd Gen firewire cable + adapter (I asked about that at the Apple Store today).
What I'd like to know more about is why the 3rd Gen Dock isn't compatible with the 5th Gen iPod even if you use the USB connector. So this is "helpful" but I'm echoing your question about the dock: Why Dock 3 work with iPod 5?

  • Can I use my iPad dock with 3rd gen iPad?

I already have an iPad 2 dock. Can I use this for my 3rd gen iPad?

    Hi Capp 543:
I don't really use it any more live, mainly because I use my iPad for reading music and don't want to switch around apps. I'm not part of the company, but I'll try.
IMO the iRig manual is way way too simplistic.
I am attaching some jpeg's of what helped me solve it, though it was tough. If it doesn't open, search Audio Midi Setup help for "sharing midi data over a network". You have to create a wireless session using Audio/Midi setup, OR create an "ad hoc" network using bluetooth if there's no wi-fi (another set of problems...). This may be your issue. There are a few things beyond getting the wireless network appearing that you have to do, that's why I'm suggesting this even though you did it, or a part of it.
    In particular:
"Anyone" has to be set as who can connect to me in the lower left of the wireless midi setup screen, and
First get everything else ready, meaning the iPad connecting, THEN LiveRig has to be launched from closed, meaning do an icon hold and close in down iPad, then open it up for it to connect, when everything else is ready. for some reason that helped me.
In MainStage, you of course need to go to the MainStage #1 Setup screen, drag in sliders, then "learn" them to the LiveRig, which should now be seen when you click "learn" and move a Liverig slider. I have a vague recollection about not seeing iRig in the MainStage #1 top left device window, but then   going into the drop-down menu there where the device shoudl be, selecting it, then learning the sliders. Then in the #2 Edit window you assign the sliders etc.
I would suggest first connecting it via midi wires and getting it to work, which will help you decide if a problem is in the wi-fi or somewhere else when you go to connect it up with wi-fi. You'd need the Apple Camera Connection kit adaptor. I myself would alway run it via midi if I'm playing live, too many unknowns with unknown networks.
    Hope that helps.

  • Is the iPod Touch 2nd Gen compatible with current iPhone earbuds with mic?

I have a friend that wants to talk to me on Skype with an iPod touch 2nd gen, but the earbuds don't have a microphone to talk into.
Is the iPhone earbuds with mic compatible with the Touch Gen 2? Thanks.

I found an Apple brand iPhone stereo headset (with mic) on eBay, but when I try it with my iPod Touch 2G on apps like Skype or QuickVoice, I get a message saying that there is no microphone attached. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

  • Is MBox (3rd Gen) compatible with Audition CS6 on Windows 8?

I have Audition CS6 running on Windows 8 and everything seems to be working well, but I need a new interface.  I was wondering if the MBox (3rd Gen) would work?  I searched around everywhere and haven't been able to find an answer.  I also tried to find some way to get a hold of Adobe directly to ask this question...but they really don't make it easy.  So here I am.  Is there anybody in the community who knows if this will work or not?  Thanks!

We've been asked about this before, and the answer is... it depends. The problem is that this is made by the firm that owns ProTools, and they are notorious for not wanting their hardware to work as well as it might with other DAWs. Given a free choice, and bearing in mind that there are any number of other hardware devices on the market that are known to work fine with Audition, I'm not really sure why anybody would purchase anything from that company nowadays unless they wanted it specifically to be able to work with PT.
If you can specify what you want to be able to do with your interface, and how much you are prepared to spend on it, we can almost certainly come up with better suggestions.

  • What updates does the Ipod touch 3rd gen 8 gig get?

    i was just wondering

Yes, a 3G iPod can go to 5.1.1. However, many users who think thay have a 3G actually have a 2G. A 2G can only go to 4.2.1
    Identifying iPod models
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.
To update to 5.1.1 if you have a 3G the computer needs iTunes 10.5 or later.

  • Has apple named the the new ipad(3rd gen ipad) ipad with retina display

Has apple named the 3 rd gen ipad ipad with retina display.

The iPad 3rd generation has a retina display, but it was sold for only a few months.  The iPad 4th generation also has a retina display and some of Apple pages refer to it as iPad with retian display. However, most of us in these forums refer to the various iPads as iPad 1, iPad 2, iPad 3 or iPad 4.
