Is the DVDWBD TS-LB23L Device defective?

The device in question is DVDWBD TS-LB23L. I am not able to play a blu-ray movie. I have performed ALL recommended troubleshooting and still does not recognize a blu-ray disk. My Vision Diagnostics passed all tests and indicates it should read and write. After some further investigation I have saw a post where an HP Admin said the device should be checked by HP because they are probably defective. So here's my dilemma, for the 2 years I had my computer under warranty I never attempted to play a blu-ray and had no problems with other media so I had no reason to believe it was defective. Now that my computer is 2 months beyond my warranty, and I am just finding out my blu-ray reader/writer is defective, I am assuming HP will say "Sorry, we cannot help you" (I hope I'm wrong).  But since there has been a verifiable issue with this specific device, will they consider replacing it for me? Can anyone offer some insight regarding whether or not HP's customer service is really worthy of being called "award winning" and the "absolute best"????????? Thanks in advance, and I have to say that the HP peer to peer network is an excellent source of reliable information and the Peer Admins are doing a great job.

  • HP DVDWBD TS-LB23L stopped detecting DVD/BLU-RAY

    Laptop info:
    HP Pavillion dv8-1190eo (5 months old)
    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
    In the middle of watching a DVD movie, the player stopped working. The movie "froze", didn't start on its own, so I removed the DVD from the tray to check for scratches and dirt on the DVD (and found none but even cleaned it anyway). This was the last time the DVD/Blu Ray player worked. It has been possible to play a single audio CD but other than this, the device does not even detect that any CD/DVD/BLU RAY is in the tray. I have tried with approximately 12 different DVD's, including DVD's that it has played flawlessly before, including brand new DVDs and brandnew writeable DVDs.
    What happens on loading a disc in the tray is:
    1. it makes a sounds as if attempting to read the disc
    2. the small disc icon appears briefly next to the curser
    but nothing more. When checking START --> COMPUTER it shows the Blu-ray Disc-ROM-drive but it doesn't show that any disc is in the tray. When double clicking the drive, the tray opens with an "insert disc" message.
    With the aid of HP Phone Support over the phone, we have checked the registry to see if there were any conflicts (e.g. iTunes and similar). Everything was ok.
    Then we restored to an earlier point where the devise was working but to no avail.
    Then we downloaded the driver from HP's site and installed it, but to no avail. Upon a second attempt of installing the driver, we received an error message: "This software is for Windows Vista, Windows Vista WMC, Windows 7, Windows 7 WMC". According to HP Phone Support it is indeed the correct file for Windows 7 64 bit.
    I have also tried running HP Support Assistant to trouble shoot, but this is not working as it asks that I load a writeable disc to perform the test. It does not detect the writeable disc I put into the tray, so I cannot perform this test.
    According to device manager, the device is working properly.
    HP Phone Support's suggestion is that I make a complete restore. This means taking full backup of all data (which I should do anyway), restore, and then install everything I have on my computer again. I am not happy to do this as it is quite a bit
    of time consuming work. The other option is to let HP Support pick up the laptop and send it for repair and be without the computer for a minimum of 10 work days (which would easily be 3 weeks or more) which is not really an option for me.
    I can see from these forums that I am not the only one experiencing problems with the DVDWBD TS-LB23L, although HP Phone Support refuses that this is a "known issue".
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    It is indeed HP warranty support that I have spoken with in length yesterday, and more briefly today. They give me the options between complete restore which they will guide me through over the phone (as stated above, this is a quite time consuming procedure with full backup, restore, then reinstall of all software, then backup copied back to laptop), or alternatively, to pick up the laptop and send it to repair which means I would be without computer for at least 2 weeks, but most likely 3 weeks or more - this is not an option to me as I don't have a spare computer, and there are obligations which I can't meet without a working computer at home.

    unless i'm missing something, i think you got mixed up, this is easy google for walk throughs
    i'm assuming this is the new 3tb tc AC or 'tower' shape, if so, its wifi will run circles around your at&t device
    unplug the at&t box for a minute and plug it back in
    factory reset your tc - unplug it, hold down reset and keep holding while you plug it back in - only release reset when amber light flashes in 10-20s
    connect the tc to your at&t box via eth in the wan port, wait 1 minute, open airport utility look in 'other wifi devices' to setup the tc
    create a new wifi network (give it a different name than your at&t one) and put the tc in bridge mode (it may do this automatically for you, but you should double check) under the 'network' tab
    login to your at&t router and disable wifi on it
    add new clients to the new wifi network, and point your Macs to the time machine for backups

    Is it possible that the person who sent the message to your phone sent it to your phone # instead?  Try sending a message to your phone via the email address and see if it shows up on the iPad.

    I figured out what was going on the app had miss represented how much space it would take it had said it was 1.2g's however it was really 1.9g's which was all I had left on the phone I downloaded it to my computer first from the apps store then was able to see this. At that point I was able to rearrange some memory to accomadate it's size thanx for the help.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility.     (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:

    Hi all,
    This seems to be an often answered question, but usually the answers specify what to do on the OS (e.g. run oracleasm etc) and/or in the ASM database running on the ASM Host (select * from V$...).
    In our situation have plug-ins collecting data from Agents. Plugins collect data from Oracle db/ASM targets and from storage arrays.
    Back on the OMS we want to be able to report on the ASM to OS device name mapping. To report, we use either the default metadata UI (i.e. data from the sysman.mgmt_emx_... tables) or we have a BI Publisher report that queries the OEM Repository Database (and can join the ECM tables from the different plug-ins).
    The link between the ASM path and the OS device name does not seem to be collected by either the Oracle DB/ASM plug-in, nor by any other plug-in (Host/Storage/...).
    It would be easy to go to Linux and run a few commands, but we need to support multiple platforms, like AIX, Solaris x86, Windows as well.
    A complicating factor is that ASM can be installed in different configurations, e.g. using ASMlib or using udev...
    I really suspect this wheel has been invented before?! Or is it really a matter of having multiple OS-specific low-level scripts and adding a bunch of instance parameters for allowing the user to specify all OS-specific path/utility names etc?
    Any suggestions welcome... :-)

    The limit of five applies only to computers, not to iOS devices, if that's what you're concerned with. But yes, you can have content from up to five different iTunes Store accounts on any given computer or iOS device.

    Create a new ID:
    On the iPod go to
    - Settings>Messages>Send and receive and sign out your ID and sign into the other one. Make sure that only her ID email address is listed.
    - Settings>FaceTime sign out of your ID and sign into the other one. Make sure that under You can be reached at only the newID email address is listed
    - Settings>iCloud and sign out and sign in with the new one
    - Settings>iTunes and App Store and sign out your ID and sign in with the new one.
    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

    Itunes content and pics are NOT part of the backup that itunes performs.

    You should transfer any purchases from iphone regularly:  File>Transfer Purchases  , if they fail to be transferred when you sync.
    You buy one and only one download.  It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your purchases.
    You can try contacting itunes support and asking for an exception, but they are under no obligation to allow.

    If you are using the same Apple ID on both devices, the Game Center profile should be the same.
    Check out this information from the iPad User Guide.  Try signing out of the Game Center on both devices and then sign back in with the correct Apple ID:
