Is the Facetime experience with an iPad 3 better with the Touch 5th gen over a 4th gen?

I want to buy an ipod touch to use Facetime with my wife as she has the iPad 3.
I intend to use the iPod touch for the following reasons:
60% - Facetime to an iPad 3 (iOS6)
25% - Rear camera for photos/video
10% - Music/Apps
5% - Other
I've briefly introduced myself to Facetime at an apple store when it was first introduced but never physically seen it in use outside an apple store.
I'm trying to justify why I should buy a 5th gen 32GB touch over a 4th gen 8GB. I'm GUESSING the REFURB 5th gens, when its released from the apple store, will go for $249CAN instead of $299CAN; a 92%/$120 price difference over the 4th gen refurb ($129CAN).
Just so you're aware, I could easily justify buying a 5th gen 32GB refurb $249CAN over a 4th gen 32GB refurb $179CAN.
Besides the obvious (hard drive space, camera resolutions, future iOS upgrades, etc.) is the Facetime experience with an iPad 3 better with the Touch 5th gen over a 4th gen?

Hi, yes I'm using the original apple cables.
This definitely isn't user error nor confined just to me, the devices are used by different people in the home.
On a quick sample around the office (survey of 7 people let me add) 4 of them said the cables had broken on them and had to be replaced.
Having also searched through the forums it appears this is a fairly widespread issue.
It's defo not user error!

Will the Touch 5th gen be faster than the 4th gen?

What I mean is will the ipod touch 5th gen be able to handle iOS 6 without lagging? That is my main gripe with my 4th gen ipod touch. iOS 5 is so sluggish on it! It takes several swipes to change menus, half the time it doesn't respond, and when it finally does respond and switch from one menu screen to the next it really lags while doing it. Apps tend to lag a lot also. It can't be because I have the ipod full because I removed everything and reset it and it still was sluggish after resetting it. I swear at times it's slower than my LG Android and that thing is slow! This is my main reason for wanting to upgrade to the 5th gen. I don't want to deal with lagging anymore.

ITunes won't sync music with iPod Touch (5th Gen) After 7.0.3 Update.

I am just wondering has any solutions as to what might be the problem.
I have a 5th Gen iPod Touch and up until I updated it to the latest version of iOS 7.0.3 and iTunes 11.1.2.31 everything had been working fine.
Now since that update no new music will sync to my iPod. Applications, Photos and Movies work ok. I buy my music off the iTunes store. If I download an app for instance on my iPod the next time I go to iTunes it starts to download into the libary with no problem.
My computer recognises my iPod and then starts the sync process at the very end it says "Copying diagnostic information" then onto "Waiting for changes to be applied" that last step lasts for about a minute.
I can download tracks and albums onto my iTunes library onto my Windows 7 PC but when applying it onto my iPod nothing gets applied.
So, my question is has anyone found out that Apple is aware of the problem and are they going to fix it with another software update or is there anything that I can do that will resolve this problem.
I have tries de-authorizing my computer and then authrorizing it again to sync content onto my iPod.
The only way for now to get new content onto my iPod is to download directly to my iPod my using "Purchased" in iTunes store.

This is what I am experiencing. The top image is a playlist I made on the ipod. The second image in when I go to "On This iPod" > Purchased > Music
Could it be the iPod. All the other tracks work perfectly. Saturday was when this started

ITunes not syncing with iPod Touch 5th gen

Yesterday I purchased an iPod Touch 5th generation, and have it linked to my MacBook Pro using iTunes 12. I am running OSX 10.9.5, and cannot figure out why it is syncing all the songs I have stored in my cloud, when the "sync only selected songs" box is checked. On my ipod screen I can see all of the songs I've ever purchased, with the cloud and arrow.
Does anyone know how to keep these songs from appearing if they are not checked as "to be synced" on iTunes?

TS1363 Help with Problem encountered with iPod Touch 5th gen After performing Sync.

Hello Friends.
My name is Joaquin. I was wondering if anyone can help with a problem I have encountered with my iPod Touch 5th generation running under OS 7.0.4.
After performing a Sync, a lot of the song in my iPod showed a red icon beside the song. It is the same Circle with a square in the center icon that shows the download progress status that you see when updateing APPs, etc.
The songs play perfectly in my computer library and in an old iPod Classic but not in the iPod Touch. The only difference was that when I connected the iPod I got a message stating something like "Transfer purchases from iPod touch to computer" despite of the fact that I did not make purchases from my IPod.
I will really appreciate the help. I can´t survive without my music. Thank you in advance.

Try the following to rule out a software problem: (Not clear what you did)
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on your router

- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network

If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. Since it connects to other networks that indicates a problem with your network

The reason i asked this question is because i have been wondering this a lot ever since i got an exchange on this ipod (and ive only had it for a few weeks now) because my last ipod had a lot of problems. so after i restored my ipod with my computer/itunes, i downloaded apps that i wanted, and then when i went to the storage to see how much storage was left, it said 0 bytes. i was freaking out because i didnt know how that could be, i mean, cause like, that is impossible when i just 'purchased' it, that the space was full but i looked and all my pictures were on this ipod and i already put them on my computer so i dont need them anymore thats why i wanna reset it now so there is nothing on it so i can have more space for stuff to do and download on it.
it is updated to iOS 8 but that happened when i purchased it, so i didnt have a choice to update it even though i didnt want to update to iOS 8...

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Ipod touch 5th gen says not able to charge when imusing the cable that came with it

My Ipod touch 5th gen says charging is not supported with this accessory when the cord im using is a cable that came with it and the cable is less the 5 days old. i also know the usb slot works for powering the ipod because it was before. i have treid useing different ports on more than one computer but with no luck. any help would be lovely

Is there a (relatively simple) way to skip tracks with an iPod touch 5th gen using a physical button? I'm aware songs can be skipped on-screen without unlocking the iPod, but I'm looking for a method that doesn't require taking my eyes off the road.

Going both forward and back would be great but I would be pleased just to have a "sight-free" way to go forward.
I've seen some mention here and there about ways to maybe change it so the volume buttons change tracks and holding the volume buttons changes the volume... but I don't know what's involved in that or if its even possible/recommended for a new 5th gen iPod. I think its a great device but its sadly lacking in music oriented functions and features... which is disappointing since music is why most people would bother getting one instead of some other "iDevice" :/

Given that you cannot do what you have asked for, perhaps you simply need to find another solution to your root problem.
Presumably, you want to skip to the next track because you don't want to hear the current one, and that is because...
You don't like it.
You've heard it recently and don't want to hear it now.
Simply don't want to hear it at this time.
For problem number 1. Don't put it on the iPod in the first place. (I know, obvious answer!)
For problem number 2. How about playing from a Smart Playlist (initially created in your iTunes Library) which has only songs you've not played recently?
For problem number 3. Hhhmmm! Create alternative Playlists for use in the car.
As for going back to the start of the "now playing" track.... Well, if your Playlist has only songs that you really, really want to hear, then you'll be looking forward to that rather go back to the beginning of the current song.
I'm not trying to be prescriptive, just giving you food for thought.
(They are all cheaper options than buying a car which can control the iPod from the steering wheel.)

B-rock, thanks for posting the above. I actually have the same issue, running Windows XP and I don't have that backup location, \Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\. When I go to Documents and Settings\(username)\ there's a AppData folder followed by:\LocalLow\DataMngr\ .
I have the latest update, 5.0.1 and I have the iPod Touch 3rd gen.
I have tried removing itunes and all that is associated with it then reinstalling and keep getting the same message. I've reset my ipod thinking that would help but still, no backup.
In iTunes, Edit, Preference, Device there are no backups.
What am I doing wrong, can you help?
