Is the iCloud storage plan still appropriate?

Hey Apple,
it's 2014 and with a handful of different iOS devices and iMac I am struggling to have them all backed up, so I have to delete backups of some devices.
How come that after buying an 800 € iPhone I am being asked to pay 99 cents/month for extra backup storage? Feels more like a penalty for those who buy have several devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod). I don't understand at all why you're doing that...
Is online storage so limited these days? Any google freemail user gets more storage then we do!
This storage policy makes you look greedy and stingy. Please consider changing that.
Regards,
a customer

What I am trying to bring across to you and hopefully an Apple employee is customer perception of this policy.
I am not using iCloud as a storage place as such, but exclusively as backup for my iDevices - as advertised .
When you use one device, you have no worries because 5 GB is plenty. When theres a second device, you still only have that one 5 GB, because you want to use the same Apple-ID with both. A third device, and the advertised iCloud Backup function won't work any more unless you buy extra storage. Thing I don't like about it is that only because I use the same Apple-ID I get less service then if I had actually not bought an Apple divide but something else.
So my suggestion would be to give every iDevice purchaser + 2 GB "backup storage" instead of a flat 5 GB regardless of how many devices you own.
Have I made it a bit clearer to you now?
FYI. I am not talking about just any "cloud storage". I am talking iCloud and the iCloud backup apple offers with iDevices, which, when working, is extremely convenient and a huge factor for the decision to go with Apple.

  • HT4847 Why is the "done" button inactive when I try to downgrade my iCloud storage plan to 5GB free? Doesn't work from iOS device or macBook system preferences. I didn't sign up for a $40 plan.

    I found the solution .,,,
    1) click on your current plan and press done your payment details will appear .
    2) the first section is your plan and there is a botton "change" click on it
    3) it will take you back to the upgrade options
    4) press on the downgrade options
    5) choose the 5 GB and the done botton will be enabled
    6) click on it  you'll back to the step number 2 , here read carefully you'll see that your changes will take effect after the current plan expired with the date.

Why am I constantly getting the message that I don't have enough storage space? I have upgraded to the 50GB storage plan and I am still getting the message. Help?

That message refers to storage on your iPhone, not cloud storage. You will need to move content off your phone to make more space.

  • I can´t donwgrade my icloud storage plan

    Hello,
I bought a new storage plan for my phone, but it never worked, I could never back up my phone to my iCloud! And yes I followed all the instructions on your site, like plugging to a source and connecting with the Wi-Fi network. Besides all of this, it remained impossible to complete the back up. So I decided to do it manually in my computer and cancel my iCloud storage plan because of it uselessness, and on top of all the hard time I had, like paying and trying to make that **** back up work, you are now giving me a hard time on downgrading my plan! I demand that it´s downgraded right away! It´s been three months that I am paying something I´m not abble to use and nobody in apple support can find a way to help me!
I beg for someone to help me please!
    Thank you

You can cancel an iCloud storage upgrade but only within 15 days of buying:
Apple seem to have made this as difficult as possible. You may be able to do this using http://expresslane.apple.com -  click 'See all products and services',  then 'More Products and Services, then 'iCloud', 'Account and setup' then 'This topic is not listed'. Explain the situation in the box provided and wait for a response - include a phone number. However you may find you cannot proceed without entering a hardware serial number which is still eligible for AppleCare.
In that event you will need to phone them directly, using the Apple Online Store number given at the bottom of this page. The first person you speak to may tell you to do it from the iCloud website but this is not possible. Politely insist on escalating the issue to a more senior person and eventually you should be able to get through to someone who can deal with this (you may have to wait for them to call you back) - you will be asked security questions and for part of your credit card number to identify yourself.
If it is more than 15 but less than 45 days you may be able to get a partial refund by the same method.
If it is more than 45 days since you purchased the storage you cannot cancel it for a refund; you can downgrade your plan as from your next renewal date. Please see

  • ICloud storage plan question

So, I didn't have enough space to download my iTunes library. I went into my iCloud storage plan and changed my plan to the $20/yr plan and received 10GB, making it now a 15GB.
However, I am still 5GBs short. So if I change my storage plan to the $40/yr plan with 25 GBs, will I be charged $40 on top of the $20 I just spent and receive 35 extra GBs, or will it solely charge me for the $40 one, because they're labeling these options as plans and I'm just upgrading and I would only be charged the difference? Thank you!

You will be charged $40 and get 25GB additional storage; the 10GB plan will be cancelled with a pro-rated refund.

  • IMatch vs 55G ICloud Storage Plan

Will subscribing to "IMatch" for $24.99, free up some storage space in my Cloud storage plan of 55 Gig by removing the songs to the IMatch section? Presently, I have maxed out my ICloud Storage Plan of 55 G. I would also like to be able to see what I am storing in that 55G. Are there duplicate anything, like videos,photos,movies?..

Does ICloud backup my photos and videos?
As Brandon say, no, not really. iCloud is not a backup service. It is a syncronization service. One thing it does provide is iOS device backups, but you should still be syncing those iOS devices with your computer and putting the photos into the photo management software of your choice.
If you care about your photos and videos you will sync your devices with your computer and then you will also backup your computer data to an external HDD.

  • Can you have one icloud storage plan for multiple devices

    hi,
i'm wondering if there is a way of consolidation various icloud storage plans into one.
i only use my free 5gb for my 5s as i back up photos to my mac, however my wife has already upgraded her storage plan for her 5c to the £1/month.
with the new release of backing up your entire photo library on you mac (which im keen to do) im going to need to upgrade my own account as the mac is set up for my apple id.
i currently also pay for itunes match.
im keen to know if there is a way we can use one large back up facility for: my 5s, the mrs's 5c, the mac, with out paying for multiple storage plans.
im guessing the itunes match is stand alone but if i can have one payment for large storage and put everything there that would be ideal, and seem a reasonable request for most families.
    any help greatly appreciated
    thanks
    Scott

  • How can I cancel my iCloud Storage plan?

When I upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 5 and it turned into a "brick" I was forced to use iCloud to backup and restore and it kept complaining that I had 5.9 gb which is over the 5.0Gb free storage provided, so I purchased an upgrade - in a dazed and confused state as my iPhone was a "brick" I must have done this twice to recover my iPhone.
Result is that I now have an additional 20Gb Storage Plan.
Nice email saying that I can cancel it within 15 days, but not where or how to do this. I spoke to Apple iPhone support who said its another division, try iTunes support website and I should be able to email and cancel - but not seen any email address.
Tried iCloud Express Lane but they want £20 for an incident ticket which is about what I paid for the 20gb Storage Plan!
Problem overall is that I use an iMac (PPC not Intel) on Mac OS 10.5.8 and although I have upgraded to iTunes 10.5, I am finding that WiFi sync or iCloud do not work unless you are on Mac OS 10.6 (needs Intel) or greater.
So I want to cancel my iCloud storage plan. Please can someone help me.

    Do any of the following:
On your iOS device’s Home screen:
Tap Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Buy More Storage.
Tap Downgrade Options, then tap to put a checkmark beside your current plan.
To confirm you want to set up iCloud to renew your current storage plan when the next payment is due, tap Confirm.
    On your Mac:
Choose Apple Menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
Click Manage, then click Buy More Storage.
Click Downgrade Options, and enter your Apple ID password.
Click to select your current plan (so that a checkmark appears), and then click Done.
    On your Windows computer:
Choose Start Menu > Control Panel > “Network and Internet,” then click iCloud.
Click Manage, then click Buy More Storage.
Click Downgrade Options, and enter your Apple ID password.
Click to select your current plan (so that a checkmark appears), and then click Done.

  • HT201318 how do I get a refund for a purchase of icloud storage plan?  I purchased it 2 days ago and do not need it.

How can I get a refund for a icloud storage plan I bought 2 days ago.  It was not the problem and I do not need it.  I want a refund.
    Thanks,
    Sammiefromtx

    Refund:
If in the US, follow the link below (you must request a refund within 15 days) -
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16968425#16968425
it gives the USA phone number - if you don't live there you will have to find an equivalent number from the 'Contact Us' link at bottom right of this page.
Keeping current plan, but downgrading when it ends:
Settings>icloud>Storage & Backup>Change Storage Plan.  Look at downgrade options.  There you can choose the plan you want when the current one ends.

  • HT201238 I paid to upgrade my iCloud storage plan but want a VAT receipt. How do I get one?

Having gone through the usual process of following unhelpful circular links on Apple support I can't find any way of getting the VAT receipt I need for my iCloud storage plan upgrade.
Can anyone offer some help on where I go to download this?

The VAT info should be on the receipt.
You did register your business account with Apple, correct?

  • Icloud storage plan upgrade & pricing.

I currently have the $20 icloud storage plan. If I upgrade to $40 plan will I be charged $60 or will I only be asked to make up the balance of $20?

Apple does not participate in this forum - it's just for users.  You'll need to contact Apple about it.  Before doing so, check your credit card at their web site to be sure a charge went through.  If so, then wait a day to see if the storage amount eventually changes.
