Is the iMac G5 wireless ready?

I want to connect my iMac G5 to a Netgear wireless router and can't seem to figure it out. I've searched, with no luck, to find out if this model comes wireless ready. Do I need to install a card to accomplish this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
Go to ->About this Mac under the Apple menu. When the window pops up select ->More Info.
In the left column of that window should be a ->Network selection with ->AirPort Card under that. If you click on -Airport Card and see what it says.

  • How to mirror iMac screen wirelessly through a mac mini connected to an hdmi port of HD TV?

I have a new Mac Mini connected to a Sony HD TV. On the same network but in a different room I have my iMac. I can control the iMac with wireless mouse and keyboard from the same room where the TV and Mac Mini reside. I would like to work on my iMac but use the HD TV as my monitor so I can show slideshows and iMovie projects without transferring files to the MacMini first. Is it possible, and if so, how do I go about setting it up?

Your iMac likely supports a higher resolution than the TV does. The maximum standard TVs today use is 1920x1080, and if your iMac is an Intel Core i3 or i5, its own display is at least that high of a resolution. Which model of iMac do you have?
If your iMac is running at least Leopard (10.5), then both machines have Screen Sharing built in. It can be accessed from the Finder, but as often as you would like to use it you should go to Macintosh HD > System > Library > CoreServices and drag it (the icon) to your Dock. That will create the shortcut to get to it easily. As I noted before, the built in Screen Sharing VNC software doesn't do full screen, but third party VNC software can. Both machines do not need to be using the thrid party VNC software, just the one viewing - in this case your Mac mini. Chicken of the VNC is a popular free one, fairly easy to use:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/
For more info about how to set up Screen Sharing and how to use the included application:
    http://mac.appstorm.net/how-to/os-x/using-screen-sharing-in-os-x-leopard/
Note that you will have to use the settings in System Preferences, regardless of what VNC software you use. Both systems will need to have Screen Sharing settings enabled.

  • If I have my iMac internet sharing turned on, the Airport Utility won't recognize the Airport Express I want to use to stream iTunes to my stereo.  When I turn the iMac internet sharing off, the Airport Express appears but calls itself a base station.

If I have my iMac internet sharing turned on, the Airport Utility won't recognize the Airport Express I want to use to stream iTunes to my stereo.  When I turn the iMac internet sharing off, the Airport Express appears but calls itself a base station.  I just bought the Airport Express and it's not clear how I should set up my System Preferences for Sharing.  Thx

Yes. Unfortunately the stereo is too far from the wired ethernet connection   My iMac is connected to the internet using an ethernet cable from the DSL modem (plugged into the wall, not wireless).  The Airport Express is plugged into an outlet 25' away from the iMac and connected to my speakers.  I've turned on the iMac Airport wireless Internet Sharing, hoping to stream iTunes to the Express connected to the stereo.  The iMac Airport picks up several neighborhood networks so I know it's working (and I connected my iPhone wifi to it just to check as well).
When I use Airport Utility to set up the Express, the only time Utility recognizes the Express is when the iMac Airport is off.  When I turn on the iMac Airport, the Airport Utility immediately loses the Express and asks to rescan.
Maybe that explains my problem better.

  • Hi, I want to use my Capsule just as a back up via wireless. How do I set this up without connecting it with an ethernet cable to either a router or the iMac??

Hi, I want to use my Capsule just as a back up via wireless. How do I set this up without connecting it with an ethernet cable to either a router or the iMac??

I misunderstood what Time Capsule is and had hoped for a wireless backup device that didn't have to be connected to the router.
The TC is a wireless backup device.. it does not need to be connected to the main router..
The problem is the computer.. not the TC.. the computer has only one wireless card.. if your current internet is by wireless.. then you must choose.. internet or backup.
But my other suggestion will work.. get a wireless USB stick compatible with Mac OS.. there are plenty and cheap.. since you are in the same room as the TC they will work fine.. plug it in and load the driver.. taint hard.
You should do the first backup by ethernet though.. wireless is too slow.. once you have that, you will do fine.
Search ebay for wireless n usb.. Mac compatible..
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-EDUP-Mini-Wireless-11N-300M-USB-LAN-Card-WiFi-Adapte r-Nano-Card-Soft-AP-/150864362939?pt=US_USB_Wi_Fi_Adapters_Dongles&hash=item2320 377dbb#ht_3553wt_1165
As you can see.. they are getting smaller and neater.
I have no idea if it works .. haven't tried one.. but I have used USB wireless stick on the Mac to overcome this issue.
You will need to set static IP .. not hard but you need to set specifics if you do buy one post again for the setup.

The discs that come with your Mac are "machine specfic" and cannot be used on another Mac.

Depends which iMac exactly and your network setup, you can go into System Preferences and under the Sharing pane you can enable internet sharing from ethernet (or whereever you get your internet from) to Wi-Fi.

I do something like that, and can confirm 20 feet won't be a problem. More than 30 or so might be.

For the Internet, you should set up a router on your modem, this router will route the packets to any device on the local area network.
If you use the iMac as a router, like if you connect the Ethernet cable from your modem to the iMac, then broadcast a Wifi signal, the iMac will have to remain on all the time, at full power. Thus drastically shortening it's lifespand.
A router is only about $100 or so, offers much better security as it's like a large guard, someone has to hack through router first to get your iMac or other devices.
If it breaks, you buy another 5 years later for another $100, so your not placing all that always on wear and tear on your expensive iMac.
Apple's airport routers are pretty good, easy to set up and have automatic firmware updates, plus music sharing etc.
Set up properly you will be very secure

  • How to change the battery in the imac wireless keyboard

how to change the battery in the imac wireless keyboard?

FYI, there is no "iMac" wireless keyboard.
If you have an Apple Bluetooth KB, simply remove the plug (screws out) on the left top side of the KB.

Running on Lion, never had a problem before until the old airport died and I replaced it.

try connecting the device in _*recovery mode*_, then restore from your backup.
also, make sure [_*Apple Mobile Device Service*_|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567] is installed and started.

  • Saving data from XP (via LAN) to iMac get "The disk is not ready" on the XP

I have Quicken 99 runing on a LAN connected XP and want to have it back up to the iMac (and subsequent time machine backups). I have mapped the path to the folder on the iMac from the XP as the Q drive so Quicken won't choke on the network connection. Start the backup, select the Q drive, get the message that "a file with the same file name in the backup directory..." (so the XP can see the mapped iMac drive), click on OK and get the subject message "The disk is not ready."
I can access the Q drive from the XP and manually copy, create, files, but quicken chokes...
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Chet

Had to apply permissions to all the files... did via the following:
To apply the same permissions to every item contained in the selected folder or disk, open the Action (gear) menu and choose “Apply to enclosed items.”
