The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
I know of no anouncement from Apple. It is reported by cnet that one Apple Store in San Francisco said that was their policy. You should call the Apple Store in question to confirm that it will also follow that as a policy.

  • How to set the maximum length that a user can enter in Msgstyledtextinput

    Hi Everyone,
    I'm currently using EBS 11.5.1 and 10.2g DB
    Is there a way that I can set the maximum length that a user can input?
    I changed the Maximum Length to lower number (from 150 to 100) but I get the following error.
    Developer Mode Exception encountered in item SaveLocation
    Error: The item SaveLocation has a maximum length (100)
             which is not equal to that of the corresponding VO attribute
           , SaveLocation length (150).
    Action: Make sure they are equal in size. There must be other way to set that value
    Thanks,
    Elmer

    You have to set the maximum length of column to 150 to avoid this error.
    You can set the same in Jdev.
    Thanks

  • Is it true that Mac's can get a genuine Virus? I've heard they can't.

    Is it true that Mac's can get a genuine Virus? I've heard they can't.

    OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it updated with software updates from Apple.
    A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
    Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
    Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
    Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
    Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
    Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
    Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
    Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
    Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
    Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
    Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
    Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
    Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
    Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
    Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
    Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
    If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
    Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
    The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
    OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
    Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
    If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
    Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgement, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
    Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
    Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • Policy to force use of AD photos only is not working (global policy and client policy) - Users can change their picture

    Hi,
    On Lync server 2013 we are trying to disable the option to change the photo on lync client, the global policy has been set to display only AD photos, this didn't work so we create a client policy with the same setting and applied to users but is not working.
    Is there something that we are missing?
    Regards.

    So you mean to say the "Edit or Remove Picture" button is active on the Lync client and you want to disable it?
    AFAIK, The button is active if you are on Exchange 2013. Is this true for you?
    If Yes, maybe you can try this on your Exchange Shell.
    Set-OwaVirtualDirectory -identity "owa (Default Web Site)" -SetPhotoEnabled $False

  • What are the command line options to start firefox to start in a kiosk mode which restricts the options that a user can select

    I would like to use Firefox as my browser but want to restrict the configuration options that a user can do. Is there a command line option to start in a kiosk more in which no toolbars are visible including min/maximise buttons so that only the rendered webpage is visible? • How to configure security so users can delete their own file(s)?

    I have configured our file server so that all users can write/modify in any other user's folder. However, it seems that they cannot delete their own file(s) in another user's folder. Do I have to give all users the "Modify" but not Full permission
    so that every user can delete their own file or folder even if it's in another user's folder? I still do not want user A to delete/modify any files/folders that user B originally created.
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi,
    Based on my research, if a user can rename a file/folder, then he/she can save it using the original name, there is no way to prevent this via permission assignment.
    You may need to use scripts to achieve this.

  • Command #user can change there own password (inside script..without passwd)

    HI,
    I have prepared one script, from which user can change there own password across all the nodes he wants.But problem is script is not working because the following command is not working
    echo -e "$oldPassword\n$newPassword" | passwd
    i have tried to run it manually but it is showing the folowing error....
    [testuser@xxxxxx01 ~]$ echo -e test\ntest123|passwd
    Changing password for user testuser.
    Changing password for testuser
    (current) UNIX password: passwd: Authentication token manipulation error
    [testuser@xxxxxxx01 ~]$
    any idea how to resolve this , or is there any other command where user can change their own password (inside a script).
    Regards,
    Ani

    When you change the password and are not root user, the passwd utility will ask for the current (old) password. You have specified a wrong old password, plus the utility will ask for confirmation of the new password.
    <pre>
    $ passwd
    Changing password for user dude.

  • Allow Domain Users to Change Their Time On Workstation

    Is there a way to allow authenticated users on the domain to change their time on their workstations?  Ive added Domain Users, Domain Computers and Users to the Computer Configuration/Policies/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/User Rights
    Assignment in the Default Domain Policy but nothing seems to change.  Ive forced the GP update as well.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Scottdog129,
    Based on my understanding, you have configured a GPO which allow that authenticated users  can change system time. However, this GPO does
    not apply successfully. Right?
    In addition to jkrato's suggestion, please follow the steps below to check if the GPO is applied to the clients. It is useful for us to narrow down the cause:
    Click
    Start, type rsop.msc in the search box to access
    Resultant set of policy.
    Check if the GPO is applied to these clients and the setting of the GPO is correct.
    In addition, if the GPO has applied to these clients, please check if there are some other GPOs have conflicts with this GPO in these clients.
    For your information ,please refer to the article Change the system time to get more help:

  • Allow DB user to change their password

    Greetings,
    DAD authenticated access to HTMLDB 2.0 on 10gR1 on hpux.
    I have built a "account" page where among other things the users can change their passwords, I have built the page over anonymous PL/SQL (below). When a DAD authenticated user runs the page via HTMLDB, they get
    ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
    Error. Yet if I copy the PL_SQL as is into sqlplus and bind it... it works like a charm. Any ideas?
    the PL/SQL
    DECLARE
    BEGIN
    if (:P17_NEW_PASSWORD_1 IS NOT NULL) AND (:P17_NEW_PASSWORD_2 IS NOT NULL) AND (:P17_OLD_PASSWORD IS NOT NULL) THEN
    if :P17_NEW_PASSWORD_1 != :P17_NEW_PASSWORD_2 then
    raise_application_error(-20300,'New passwords do not match');
    end if;
    execute immediate 'alter user '||user||' identified by '||:P17_NEW_PASSWORD_1||' replace '||:p17_old_password;
    htp.p('Password Changed Successfully');
    end if; --passwords not null
    exception when others then
    htp.p('Error changing password:'||sqlerrm);
    null;
    end;

    The application parsing schema (owner) needs ALTER USER privilege. It probably works in SQL*Plus because that schema has obtained the privilege through a role.

  • Can't connect to my itunes because the message states that another user is using my itunes when thi is not true.

    I can not connect to my itunes account because the message states that another user in using the account and this is not true.

    After a visit to the apple store, they were able to get through my pass code but unfortunately I found out that is was a problem with the logic board. Since Apple only wants to sell and not fix, I was able to locate an iphone repair near me that deals with logic boards and they are currently working on it right now. i should be getting it back soon. Im not sure if the problem you are experiencing is the same as i went through but it does sound like it may be also a hardware issue and would suggest searching online for an iphone repair place that can diagnose what exactly is wrong. Hope this helps.

  • How to limit the max dialog no that one user can use at the same time?

    Hi,
    I meet one performance problem that one user can open 6 sessions in the GUI and he/she can run 6 reports at the same time witch could occupy 6 dialogs in the sap R/3 instance. It makes poor performance for other users.
    Would you pls tell me how to limit the no. of sessions one user can create at the same time or how to limit the no. of dialogs one user can occupy at the same time?
    Thanks a lot!
    I used this parameters in the default profile as blew:
    rdisp/rfc_check 1
    rdisp/rfc_use_quotas 1
    rdisp/rfc_max_own_used_wp 20 (means: 20%)
    It still didn't work.
    Sean

    Hello,
    We can reserve DIA W.P by giving value to the parameter :- rdisp/rfc_min_wait_dia_wp=1(default)
    that have to necessarily remain free for other users.
    This parameter is used to reserve a number of dialog work processes for Dailog mode.
    For eg. If 10 dialog w.p. are configured for the instance(rdsip/wp_no_dia=10) and the parameter rdisp/rfc_min_wait_dia_wp=3 is set,parallel RFC's can occupy a maximum of 7 DIA W.P.3 DAI W.P. always remain free for dialog mode.
    But now the question is how we assign/restrict this free dialog w.p. to the specific user.

  • Limit the amount of tasks that a user can claim

    I have a custom worklist and I need to develop a requirement for not allowing the users to claim more than one task at a time. Does the Worklist API have something to limit the amount of tasks that a user can claim at a time?.

    Apparently the Family Base add-on (https://my.verizonwireless.com/vzw/nos/safeguards/SafeguardProductDetails.action?productName=familybase) from Verizon will allow you to set limits on how much data a particular device can consume.  I think it is free for the first 3 months (not sure) after that it will cost $5 per month.  I have heard rumors though that it does not work well with iPhones???

  • I have just changed my ISP and they have informed me that i have to change the IP address on my time capsule. Please can someone tell me how todo this? Thanks

    I have just changed my ISP and they have informed me that i have to change the IP address on my time capsule. Please can someone tell me how todo this? Thanks

    This should really be unnecessary but anyway..
    If you mean the internal IP of the TC, the it can be changed by changing the dhcp settings.. which is weird.
    It looks a bit different in the v6 utility but is easy to do..
    See the DHCP beginning address is split into sections.. change the front section from 10.0 to 192.168
    Then update the TC.. then you will need to change everything on the network as the IP will need to change.. I recommend you simply turn everything off and then on again in correct order.. modem.. TC.. clients. 2min gap.
