  • I just got my refurb iPad in the mail. I am trying to set it up, but im getting this message "iTunes could not back up the ipad because the backup was corrupt or not compatable with the ipad. Delete the backup for this ipad. then try again." How?

I just got my refurb iPad in the mail. I am trying to set it up, but i am getting this error message " iTunes could not back up the ipad because the backup was corrupt or not compatable with the ipad. Delete the backup for this ipad. Then try agian." How do I do that?

It sounds like the iPad wasn't erased to me. If the iPad is totally cleared of content, there should be nothing on it and no backup to create.
Without connecting the iPad to your computer - Launch iTunes on you computer and go to Edit>Prefences>Devices. Do you see an iPad backup in there? If you do see it, delete it.

  • Have IPAD 1 and since uploading os5 I cannot upload pictures from my Sony camera. Error message reads the USB is not compatable. I'm not sure about the new os, how do I go back to what worked?

Have an IPad 1 and since upgrading to os 5 nothing seems to be working as before.  Current problem is I cannot upload pictures from my camera...error message "USB not compatable".  Using Apple's converter...how do I go back to the old OS?

I do not think there will be any way to revert back to an earlier system.
The "current" problem with some cameras and card adapters resulted from Apple changing the amount of current available to USB devices, apparently to prevent them from running down the iPad's battery.  It appeared when the iOS was updated from 3 to 4.  On my iPad 2, I find that a little bit more current is available now under iOS 5.
One way to get around the problem is by using a powered USB hub.  Another is to remove the card from the camera and use the SD adapter from the Camera Connection Kit.  If your Sony used a CF card, then you will need to find a CF-to-USB adapter that does not draw too much current.  I have one that works, but also have a couple that do not.

This is not how it works...
Suggest you spend a little bit of time here to be able to fully appreciate your iPad...

  • Does the new version of pages for ipad have backwards compatability with previous versions of Pages?

This one question is preventing me from downloading the new version of pages - I am worried I will lose the ability to read documents made with the previous version of pages, or that they will be automatically converted into the new format without my knowing. My laptop does not have Mavericks so I will have to keep using an older version of pages here, but I am reluctant to download the new version to my ipad because of concerns that users have previously voiced about the lack of backwards compatability. Is this still the case, or is there now backwards compatability?

    Did we get HyperCard back?
Did we get all the features of AppleWork Back?
Has QuickTime X got back the editability of QuickTime?
Has FileMaker now got all the Bento features?
Has Final Cut been reduced to match iMovie for iOS?
Apple is out to attract iOS users, who mainly do selfies and twitter. They pay better because they are undemanding, don't even notice when Apple offers them something inferior and have been broken in with the iTunes Store harness.

  • HT4757 Can the digital camera RAW compatibility update 3.13 work for iPad?

Trying to transfer photos from my Nikon 3200 to iPad using the camera kit.  Can the digital camera RAW compatibility 3.13 update work for iPad?  Attempts to download it directly to iPad sends it to Evernote and then message comes up that synchronization failed.  Not a tech geek by any means so if you can help, please explain as simply as possible.  Thanks much.

45 views and no replies? Isn't there anyone that can answer if I need this update or not or is my question not clear? Does anyone else have a similar question relating to  the Digital Camera Raw compatibility update 3.11?

  • Is the Ipad 2 compatable  with Nivo 9

Hello I use Nvivo 9 software for research. I will travelling shortly and wonder is there any way I can use or link Nvivo 9 software on the Ipad 2.

A very brief look at the web site looks like the answer is no. It runs on Windows. The iPad does not run Windows, therefore it can not run the software. I see no indication of a mobile app available from them. The best you could possibly do would be to run a remote control app like logmein on your PC and use logmein ignition or something else appropriate to remotely control your pc from the iPad.

  • D800 file compatibility:  Has anyone experienced problems with loading D800 files onto the iPad using the camer connector kit?  I have tried both RAW and JPEG using SDHC and CF cards and the iPad(3) doesnt recognise any of the files.

Has anyone experienced problems with downloading Nikon D800 files to the iPad3 using the camer connector kit?  I have tried .RAW and JPEG (of various sizes) on both SD and CF cards, but the iPad doesn't recognise the files.
I have seen various forums discussing Lightroom and PSE updates that are required to process .NEF files but I can't find anything on the iPad/camera connector issue.
I dont have any problem if I put the SD card straight into the SD slot in my iMac and Aperture will process the files fine, but I would really like to be able to download and view files on the move on the iPad.
    Any advice appreciated?
PS - saw something that suggested the iPad had a maximum file size of 16mb for photos, not sure if this is correct, but I have tried smaller JPEG files and they still aren't recognised.

If your camera supports both PTP and Mass Storage Device modes, it may be necessary to use both modes to import all media content.
If some files do not import as expected using one mode, try switching to the other mode and importing again.
Note: Some cameras may refer to PTP as Pictbridge or PTP/Pictbridge.

  • When the next iPad comes out, (the iPad 4), will the iPad 2 be discontinued and not be compatable with future iOS versions?

I will not be buying a new iPad just because it was just discontinued.

<Opinion>Look at the iPod Touch family as a guide, that's probably the best model to look to for how this will probably go down. Probably 2 or 3 generations back will be okay if a new generation comes out, so following that logic the iPad 1 would likely stop receiving major iOS updates. But hey, nobody but Apple knows. I would suggest not worrying about it and getting what you can afford, they all become obsolete eventually.</Opinion>

  • Taking handwritten notes on the iPad

I purchased the iPad mostly to replace my hundred paper pads, i.e. to take notes in seminars and later be able to find and improve them. After my initial disappointment, I decided that in 2011 I'll make an attempt on realizing that dream. So I got a Pogo stylus and 3 note taking apps, Penultimate, Notes Plus and Note Taker HD that had been reviewed most positively in 2010.
Let me start with where these apps agree: They all allow notes to be e-mailed as pdf and transferred back and forth through iTunes, so are very basic in terms of organizational tools. One can't improve the notes on the computer, no dropbox compatibility or a computer app that goes along, I hope this will change in the future.
If the name of Penultimate was Penbasic, I'd give it 5 stars, because what the app does well is to allow occasional handwritten notes, with a fairly smooth feel to the pen strokes, six colors, 3 thicknesses and an eraser tool. Nothing else.
Notes Plus and Note Taker HD have a tool that make note taking in seminars realistic: Close-up write (called edit2 mode in Note Taker HD) lets you write in a large rectangle with the text appearing in a much smaller rectangle. As you keep writing the smaller rectangle automatically advances from left to right (and down in Notes Plus) and a note arises that is both readable and close to the size of a letter, hurra! This mode has also built-in wrist protection that works well.
Notes Plus and Note Taker HD both have strengths and weaknesses and my verdict is still not out, you should try them yourself. Let me just list those aspects that are unique to them:
Notes Plus let's you select/drag parts of the note and type in it. It has only an awkward eraser tool where you strike-out or encircle what you want erased but it doesn't always work and you keep having to deal with useless lines and circles. You can also record while taking notes and it recognizes basic geometric shapes that can be filled with color.
Note Taker HD lets you resize the small rectangle in which the text appears, so in fact you have precise control over the letter size. It has a straightforward eraser and many preferences that can be set. You can import pdf-files and annotate them by hand which is useful for forms but otherwise iAnnotate is preferable for this purpose.
It would be great to have ONE app that can do all those things, together with organizational tools, any ideas? Finally, we're all waiting for a pressure sensitive pen, when will it arrive?

The Boxwave stylus is excellent! A really nice tip that works well.
    I have:
    NoteShelf
I think this is the most usable of the handwriting apps overall. It looks good and the app doesn't get in the way. It has a "close-up" mode a little like Note Taker HD but without the auto-move feature. The pen strokes look good and the pen selection is done beautifully. You get some sensible "paper" backgrounds, the biggest problem is lack of control over the page size. Text isn't searchable of course.
    *_Note Taker HD_*
This is far and away the fastest way to do handwriting on the iPad. But do you really want a load of handwritten notes on a computer? You don't get any indexing or searching on any handwriting of course.
    WritePad
This is the best if you want your writing recognised to text. Write on screen, write in input area or use a keyboard. Recognition is excellent and improves with training (which happens automatically). PhatWare are one of the leaders in handwriting recognition.
    PhatPad
From the same source as WritePad. This is more full-featured with text as well as handwriting with optional recognition. It is early days for this app yet and the workflow/UI isn't great just yet.
    Noterize
This is good when you want to mix text, drawing, audio. You can import PDF's and PowerPoint as background pages to annotate them but it isn't ideal.
    And a number of others!
What is really needed is something akin to Microsoft OneNote, this is the best note-taker on any platform and is perfect for pen use as well as keyboard. There is an app that will open OneNote files but it is horribly limited just like the iPad version of Evernote. PhatWare have proved that you CAN to handwriting recognition on a capacitive input screen, we just need someone to bring it all together nicely.

  • Considering the iPad. I have a few Q's :)

Hi All, I’m in the UK and am very close to ordering my iPad. I have a few questions I was hoping you maybe able to help me out with. I want to be able to use my iPad for day to day browsing and e mailing as well as having a multimedia device with me to play music, films and check out pictures. My main concern is, is it worth investing in an iPad when a Laptop / Netbook can do all these things and are a lot cheaper.
1 .Will the iPad display any web site. I understand that apple and Adobe don’t like each other and the iPhone for example wont display any flash on sites you visit. This is a serious concern for me. I want to be able to view any site. I want to be able to play videos from the site ie BBC sites.
    2. Are you able to buy a device in order to hook up a DVD/RW drive in order to take ot load data to and from the iPad.
    3. If I want to print a document / email etc received or created on my iPad is there a way to do this without transferring the document to my laptop for printing.
    4. Are there any serious compatibility issues with opening excel spreadsheets or MS Word documents on the iPad.
Thos are my questions for now although I’m sure I’ll have more soon.
    Cheers ppl.

If the video is Flash, it will not play on an iPad/iPhone/Touch. There is no flash. If a website has been smart and converted their video to a supported format, it will play.

    No.

There are some printing apps in the App Store. You would need to research if any are compatible with your printer.
To be honest, it sounds like a laptop would be a more appropriate device for you based on your questions.

See the chart below to determine whether you can upgrade your device and what you can upgrade to. If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to connect your device to your computer and open iTunes in order to upgrade.

  • Itunes could not connect to the ipad because an invalid response was received from the device

    Hello
I just installed the maximus v extreme motherboard with a ocz vertex 4 ssd with windows 7 x64. Installation was fine and installing drivers went without a hitch. Re-installing the software i use went fine as well.
However, when i went to use iTunes( v10.7) to sync my ipad i got an error message saying:
"Itunes could not connect to the ipad because an invalid response was received from the device"
I then connected my ipod nano to see if it will cause the same error, but it worked fine. So i tried an iphone and the same error I got for my ipad came up.
I tried reinstalling the usb drivers, but the same error came up. I also updated BIOS to the latest version, but the error still came up. I also reinstalled itunes numerous times and still got the error. I reinstalled and updated all drivers as well. Again this did not fix the issue. I also tried to run itunes in vista compatability and xp compatability mode. Again this did not fix the issue.
I have also followed all the steps apple recommends to do on their website with regards to this issue, again it did not fix the issue.
It is a real pain as everything else works like a dream! Is there anything i can do to get itunes to work properly on my pc?
    Thank you for your help!
    System specs:
    asus rampage v extreme motherboard
    OCZ vertex 4 SSD
    8 Gb DDR3 RAM (1600 mHz)
    windows7 x64
    Intel i7 3.5Ghz 1155
nvidia GTX295  (x2 running in Sli)

I fixed this problem.  Believe the problem is iOS 7 incompatibility with older iTunes Versions on older MacOS systems or platforms.
My iPad 2 would no longer sync with my old  PowerPC Mac mini running MacOS. My iPhone 3GS synced fine.  IPad2 updated to iOS 7 which doesn't run on my iPhone 3GS. Error message for iPad sync problem was "invalid response received from iPad" out of iTunes.  I then applied update iOS 7.1.2 to iPad and error message changed to indicate this version of iTunes not supported, use 11.1.
iPad 2 used to sync prior to iOS 7 installation.
Research on Apple web site shows iOS 7 on iPhones and iPads does not support older MacOS and iTunes versions.
Upgraded with new Mac mini and iTunes 11.1 and MacOS 10.9.2. (put this off as long as I could.  )
    all good now.

  • Is the Ipad 2 compatible in Italy

    Hello,
I would like to know the following things about the Ipad2 and its compatibility.
    1. Is it compatible in Italy with their Wi-Fi?
    2. To charge the Ipad, can it be charged on a non-apple computer? If not, is the electrical charging system compatible with Italy's?
    Thank you for you assistance.

The answer to all your questions is yes. Wi-Fi is Wi-Fi, the whole world uses the same Wi-Fi. But if the network is secure you need to know what type of security and the password to connect. The iPad's charger that ships with it is self adjusting for  the voltage, you just need the prong adapter to plug it into the Italian electrical outlets. Yes, PCs can often provide the wattage to charge the iPad from its USB ports, but not always. Be careful when connecting your iPad to another computer, Mac or PC, as you can accidentally erase the iPad's contents if you are not careful.

  • I upgraded my ipad to iOS 5.1.  However, my Youtube favorites are missing.  These are favorites saved on the iPad, not on the youtube account.

I upgraded my iPad to iOS 5.1.  Afterwards, my Youtube favorites are missing.  These are favorites saved on the iPad and not linked to a Youtube account.
I have tried restarting the iPad several times to no avail.  The favorites seems to be still on the iPad, since when I try to add a video that used to be on the list, that option is greyed out indicating that the computer knows that this is a favorite video.

The problems reported here occurred right after updating to iOS according to the users as TD mentioned.
It's a compatibility problem between iPhoto and iOS6 that the only workaround would be to possibly batch change the date of the photos in iPhoto . Therefore we'll have to wait for it to be fixed with either an iPhoto update or an iOS update, which ever Apple feels is the proper item to to be changed.
If they update iPhoto first (which is probably what they'll do) it'll be called an iPhoto problem.
