Is the Ipad Air's glass too thin  that it can crack due to pressure??

I have an Ipad Air and so far I love its amazing; however I am just a bit bothered by the plastic feel of the screen. I am to understand this is due to the fact that the screen is made with a thinner glass thus the plastic feel.  My concern is if the glass being thinner is it weaker or is as or stronger than   the previous models I am worried because I plan to sketch with it and I would place my palm on the screen and I don’t want to damage it .
I also  think in getting glass screen cover to protect my investment
Thanks

Glass screen covers have been known to permanently damage the glass screen they cover.

  • Is the iPad Air surface made of glass?

Is the surface of the iPad Air made of glass or gorilla glass ? Because it's lighter than other iPad previous have they done this by not using glass?

    its glass.

  • Am i the only one that noticed a smaller camera lens on the ipad air?

I was just wondering why apple would make their lens smaller on the ipad air from what it was before on the third and fourth generation ipad. If you have a ipad air and a third or fourth gen ipad compare the cameras on the back and you'll see that the air has a much smaller lens than the previous versions. Im just wondering why apple would do that? Doesn't bigger glass mean more light and better image? Why downgrade the size of the lens?

from what i can tell and read both cameras take around the same quality photos
Which "both cameras" are you referring to? There's been 5 models of iPad, 4 with a camera.
What i just want to know is why make the glass much smaller on the ipad air.
Only Apple could answer that with any certainty.
The size of the bit of glass covering the lens and sensor doesn't necessarily affect the light, unless the smaller hole was obscuring some of it - which obviously it doesn't. The glass could be thinner, or the sensor could be closer to it. Both of which would allow more or equal amounts of light as previous cameras. You can't determine the light level just by the size of the hole in the casing. There's alot more going on that just that.
I wouldn't get too worried about it - I'm sure Apple know what they are doing...

  • 2 Problems with the Ipad Air...midi keyboard and usb microphone

    IN SHORT:
2 Problems with the Ipad Air...what midi keyboard will connect to the lightning camera connector and what microphone as well?  There seems to be issues with the ipad air not being able to power them.  Has anyone got any devices to work yet?
    IN DEPTH:
I have a yeti microphone that when I plug in it says its using too much power.  A little samsung go mic I have plugs in find and works but isnt quite what im looking for.  My midi keyboard is not reading...its probably 15yrs old (didnt expect it to work).  I have ordered a usb powered keyboard but im now nervous it may not work if it requires too much power.  Has anyone had any success with a particular model of keybaord?  I saw a youtube video of the CME Xkey in which it was plugged into an ipad that uses the lightning jack, but was unsure if it was the air or a different model.
Any help is appreciated on this...I love my ipad air and hoping to make it my fully functional music recording device.
By the way I mostly use garageband

    hey mate
Yes what I ended up doing is buying a powered usb hub.  They are about 10 dollars or so on amazon.com.   There are tons to choose from.  I use a yeti micrphone now with no issues and a midi keyboard.  You will need the lightning usb adapter too.  You plug the lightning adapter into the ipad and the hub into the adapter then plug all your accessories into the powered hub.  So it works well you just gotta buy an extra piece of equipment.

  • Benchmark scores of the iPad Air & iPad Mini are odd.

    Go to this page below:
    http://gfxbench.com/result.jsp?benchmark=gfx30&data-source=1&version=all&test=54 6&text-filter=&order=median&os-Android_gl=true&os-iOS_gl=true&arch-ARM=true&arch -x86=true&base=device
Notice anything odd? I do. Why is that iPhone 5S is at the top of the benchmark score chart & iPad Air and iPad Mini Retina which both have the same hardware as the 5S (but more powerful) are nowhere to be seen next to it. In fact, The devices are actually on page 3 with lacklustre scores compared to the mobile phone ._.
The same can be said for any of the benchmarks too.. I've even done all of the benchmarks on my own iPad Air & it's very true, iPhone 5S (a mobile phone) is getting way better scores than the iPad tablets.
Can somebody please explain to me *** is going on with these scores? 'cause I'm confused. Upon doing research, I've found that the Apple A7 in the iPad Air & iPad Mini devices are essentially the same but more powerful than 5S cause of the slightly higher clock-speed & more spacious thermal headroom in the tablets.. So I fail to see why the 4S is getting vastly more impressive scores in any of the benchmarks.

True.. I do believe you have a point there, iPad Air & iPad Mini Retina both run all of these benchmark tests in Retina (2048x1536) resolution compared to all of the other mobile devices on the chart running them at far lower resolutions.. so of course the scores on the tablets aren't going to be as competitive.
Having said that, for reasons unknown.. Quite a few memory/performance issues currently plague the two iPad tablets on iOS 7.0.4 so I believe we'll see more truthful scores once iOS 7.1 releases which I've found (via watching YouTube vids of the new beta firmware in action) supposedly fixes the issues.
    We'll see, I guess.

  • Case, cover, or bare- which way for the iPad Air?

Love the iPad Air-- light, fast, elegant, and fun!
Like the look of it, though I am concerned about the smooth back and the possibility of a drop; and the exposed front and back potentially leading to scratches by setting it down!
So, tried a wonderful, light, inexpensive, well constructed case by Fintie (have one on my iPad Mini and it works great!).  The iPad Air version is only slightly over 7 ounces, but with the Air in it, the Air no longer seems so light, airy, and appealing!
I'm thinking that I need a combination of a light "smart cover" with a thin clear, see-through vinyl, scratch-protecting sheet for the back.  That way, the Air'll have some protection from scratches and screen damage, but it could also leave its "docking" station (i.e., take off the cover).
Any recommendations for such combos?  Do they even exist?

Well, I may have found one... there was a sizing problem, but it seems they've fixed that.  Anyone here tried it?

  • What is the best stylus pen for the iPad Air?

Wondering which stylus pen to get for the iPad Air that's best for writing, and that you don't have to press too hard to use. Simply a stylus that works well with the "iPad Air" specifically. So far since I have been reading I haven't heard much good reviews about a stylus pen working well with the iPad Air

In my experience, the same stylii work well with the Air that worked with my iPad 3 and my iPad 2. You shouldn't have to press hard with any stylus. Stylii are a matter of personal preference. You will get as many suggestions as you get people replying to this thread.
I currently use three. An Adonit Jot Pro, a Pencil by Fifty-Three (mostly for drawing) and an Adonit Jot Script Evernote Edition. I have a collection of cheap Griffin stylii that as well. They work fine and are good to be able to lend to others.
    Best of luck.

  • Does the iPad Air Smart Cover lose it's magnetism?

Weirdest thing happened last week.  I have an iPad Air 32GB Cellular since about the first month they were released.  I have been using a Poetic thin shell cover on the back and an Apple Smart Cover on the front since I purchased the Air.
Last week (around Wednesday) the magnets stopped working.  If I were to hold the iPad Air facing down, the Smart Cover would just dangle.  I even removed the back thin shell cover thinking it was interfering.  Same thing though, the cover just dangled.  It was this way for several days.  I even had to turn off the ability to sleep/wake the iPad using the cover because it would click on and off over and over again as I was carrying it. (Which to me would say the magnetism was not lost but became less, really weird.)
Today (Sunday) it just started working again.  How is that possible?  I can't find anything on the net saying this happens.  How can the Smart Cover just lose it's magnetism and get it back after about 5 days?
Thank you for any insight you can offer.

Mine actually seems to have become repelant.  I thought I had a weird crease but thats not the case.  When I lay the cover on a flat surface it lays flat.  When I put it on my iPad it lifts slightly.

  • Ipad air 2 there's no silent mode like the other iPads ?? the button that does it does not exist on the iPad air 2 what does replace it??

ipad air 2 there's no silent mode like the other iPads ?? the button that does it does not exist on the iPad air 2 what does replace it??

hi the older button could be set to either "force portrait mode" or "silent mode". now you can do both in the iOS control center (swipe from the bottom of the screen), so the need for a button isn't needed anymore.

  • I have just bought the iPad Air but when I try accessing my fotos from my iCloud account, I only get this years fotos whereas in my old iPad I can access the last three years of fotos. I've tried syncing to the computer but it didn't help

I have just bought the iPad Air but cannot access the roots I have on my iCloud account. They do appear on my old ipad 2, any ideas how I can access them please

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.
