I would certainly not recommend it for college. You can't add the apps which serious courses are likely to require. The same could be true for HS, depending on what kind of courses you are taking. If all your teachers are using MS Word, then you should use that too for submitting assignments, and that requires a real computer.

Is the iPad good for taking notes or should I stick to a laptop?
Im thinking about getting an iPad for school to take notes and type documents with Pages. Is the iPad good for this or should I use a laptop instead?
ThanksIt depends on your needs and preferences. I use my iPad regularly to take notes, but I wouldn't want to try and type an extensive paper on one without an external keyboard (my touch-typing skills just don't fit the spacing on the iPad's on-screen keyboard). I'd suggest you visit an Apple Store or dealer that carries the iPad and try out typing on it yourself and see how it works for you.

Should i get the ipad 2 for school?
hi,
i was thinking about getting a ipad for school. i really would like to be able to take it to class and take notes! i hqve one question and that is is it practical to use it for homework with pages and keynote and numbers, or amoung other apps? also what do you like about the ipad? should i get a smart cover? what dont you like? i would use it mostly for note taking. what good note taking apps are their? also would keynote ect. work with office? my school uses office so i need it to do that. is office avalible for the ipad? or is it better to use pages?
austinDepends on the person. Yes, you can take notes on the iPad. but you will possibly benefit from an external keyboard to type fast. (depends on how you can type /adapt to the on screen keyboard)
I don't use Pages, but I do Documents to Go and it works very well.
You will possibly find challenges getting things to print since the iPad only goes to AirPrint enabled printers. You will find challenges if you need to get data on or off the iPad since it doens't support flash drives (e-mail is the easiest way, and to do that you need wifi access)
You can't get microsoft office. but the afrorementioned docs to go works, as do other office apps.
You can make it work. Personally? For functionality and the such, I'd look into a netbook. Less money, hundreds of gigs and likely less compatibility issues with other devices. -
What can i use instead of microsoft word that has the same capabilities for school work etc
what can i use instead of microsft word that has the same capabilities so i can do school work etc.
You could use LibreOffice which is a free open source Office clone. The only downside is that by default it ddoesn't save in Office formats, you have to specifically choose that option. GoogleDocs is another free Office like product.

Are the Imacs good for Graphic Design/Illustration work?
I work as a digital illustrator so I spend all day at a monitor. I'm thinking of replacing my powerbook and am leaning towards a 20" Imac.
Does anyone else here use their Imac for professional graphic design or illustration work? How does it measure up?
I've seen many posts about poor screen quality. Should I steer clear of the Imac, or are the screens adequate for design work? At the moment I use a 17" Apple studio display (the old stripey framed kind) which is fine for my needs. How does the Imac screen compare to this?
Is it easy to connect an external monitor (I'd use my Apple Studio Display as a 2nd screen) and can you set them up so they create a giant screen area - i.e. not just 'mirrored'? I already have a VGA to DVI adaptor so presumably this is all I'd need to hook up my 2nd screen?
Is the 24" Imac screen quality much better than the 20"?
Sorry, so many questions! Any advice or opinions much appreciated - Many thanks. To answer your first question yes they are great for digital illustration. However this will depend on how color accurate your work requires. The only downside I have found with the 20" iMacs is narrow viewing angles. This will be nothing new to you since you have the older 17" studio display. The 24" iMacs are all around absolutely stunning and have much better viewing angles however I have seen a lot of them(including mine) that have some degree of uneven back lighting. If you live anywhere near an Apple store or reseller I would recommend that you go into the store and actually use both of the machines for some period of time and see for yourself how you like it. Bring some of your illustrations from home on a flash drive to see how they look. Otherwise IMO these machines are superb. I love my 24" and it runs CS3 Apps amazingly fast.
If your 17" studio display has the ADC(Apple Digital Connector) then you will have to purchase the power supply adapter to make it work. If you are unsure if it qualifies or not just look and see if your display has it's own power plug. If not then you will need this adapter for $99. IMO it's not worth it as you could put the $100 bucks toward a new display.

My iPad Mini with retina display suddenly will not connect to the Internet. It shows full wifi bars, yet no web pages will load. My Internet is working with all other apple devices in my house. The iPad also no longer works with celluar data. I'm not sure what has happened. It was working fine a few hours ago. I have tried resetting it, ive restarted my browser etc. I tried to erase all data from my Ipad but I can't do that because it needs to sign into my Apple ID and use the Internet!
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Thank you in advance for your help
RegardsWhat type of reset were you doing, a soft reset via the home and sleep buttons, or a reset back to factory defaults ? Have you tried another soft reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Is the AEBS good for adding HDD's to my network?
I want to implement storage to my network so all users can access music and videos. Is the AEBS good for this?
Is it worth it and does it work wellIf you can get it to work reliably, as I did prior to this weekend, the Air Disk is a great way to add centralized storage to your home network. Look around this forum though and you will quickly see that there is more than a little voodoo in getting it to work correctly (or at all). My setup with rock solid for months until this weekend for some reason (read about it here - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1455129&tstart=30 ) and now I am AirDisk less. I am hoping that Apple pushes a new firmware out tomorrow on Update Tuesday.
Good luck. -
Why does the ipad 2 speaker stopped working after upgrading to ios 8
WWhy does the iPad 2 speaker stopped working after upgrading to ios 8 why plz respond
Hi A_S85,
It appears your iPhone has an issue relating to sound. The following article may help you find a solution:
If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker - Apple Support
Can't hear anything from the built-in speaker of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? Maybe you can hear, but the sound is distorted, muffled, intermittent. Or maybe you hear static or crackling noises. If your iOS device has any of these issues, follow these steps.
Follow these steps and test the sound after each one.
Go to Settings > Sounds and drag the Ringer And Alerts slider to turn the volume up.
If you can hear sound from the speaker, then the speaker works. Continue with these steps to find the setting or switch that's affecting the sound. If you can't hear sound from the speaker, contact Apple Support.
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is set to ring. If you can see orange, it's set to silent.
Restart your device.
Open an app that has music or sound effects. Adjust the volume with the volume buttons or the slider in Control Center.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn off Bluetooth.
If there's still no sound, connect a headset. If you can hear sound through the headset, remove it and clear any dust or debris from the headset jack of your device.
If the device is in a case, make sure that the case doesn't block the speaker.
Use a brush to gently clear any debris from the speaker and Lightning connector (or 30-pin dock connector). The brush should be clean and dry and have soft bristles.
Update your device to the latest version of iOS.
If you followed these steps and still hear no sound or distorted sound, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
Take care,

I have a first generation iPad and got my husband the iPad 2 for xmas. is there a way to transfer his tiny tower game from my iPad to his without using the same iTunes account?
Apps are only tied to one account... You can set up two iTunes accounts on your computer, however, and let his iPad sync to his account. If he has never backed up his apps to a computer, however, he will have to redownload all the apps. Afterwards, he can backup to iCloud instead of your computer.

On iPhoto, I can no longer access the 'Classic' option which would lay out my photos on the page. It will send them as attachments only. I need the page layout for my work. Any thoughts as to why this has changed? It used to fully lay out the photos so I could add notes and detailed information before I sent them. I am thinking it is something simple that I have just missed...
The "Photos" view has been replaced by the Media Browser.
Most applications will show you the Photos icon in the Sidebar, when you need to select photos in a file chooser dialoge. Mail, Safari, the iWork apps. See Terence Devlin's User Tip: How to Access Files in iPhoto
For example, in the File > Open dialogue in Preview I am seeing this in the sidebar. -

My mom got the iPad mini for Christmas and she gave me her old iPad but she is still receiving all my messages on her mini. Is there a way to stop her from getting them?
If she is receiving your messages - then you must have somehow setup the iPad to use your iPhone number or your email address on her new iPad. How you did that is beyond me unless you set up her new Mini for her and used your Apple ID on it.
On her iPad got to - Settings>Messages>Send and Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at>uncheck your phone number or email address of that is what is being used for the contact number. -
