Is the iPad good if i want to download my college textbooks?

deciding the Nook, Kindle and iPad and i really want the iPad because of iWorks but i always want to have my textbooks on hand as well for college, should i just go with the other two, get the iPad or get the iPad along with one of the other two

There are apps for the iPad that can allow you to read Kindle and Nook books in addition to Apple's iBooks and Google Books. So the iPad gives you the widest selection of books available. Which device or devices you get will therefore depend on where and how you might want to read the books - the iPad isn't at it's best in bright light such as outdoors, where the Kindle and Nook aren't good in dim light without a reading light - and what other functions you might want. If you're pretty sure you want the iPad anyway, I'd suggest you get that and see how things go. You can always get a Kindle or Nook later if you find the iPad insufficient and any books you buy from the respective e-book vendor will still be usable.

It depends on your needs and preferences. I use my iPad regularly to take notes, but I wouldn't want to try and type an extensive paper on one without an external keyboard (my touch-typing skills just don't fit the spacing on the iPad's on-screen keyboard). I'd suggest you visit an Apple Store or dealer that carries the iPad and try out typing on it yourself and see how it works for you.

Only if you merge them together into one Address Book/Contacts and iPhoto Album(s), the iPad doesn't have individual logins/usernames (with their own unique data) as Mac computers allow.

When you sort playlists, you either ask for sorting on a certain criterion (ie, alphabetically by name), or you choose yourself. You can't mix both. To automatically sort, you click on the field/column you want (eg, Name, Date Added, etc). To manually sort, click on the heading for the very first column (the numbered column). Now you can drag tracks around as desired.

You should be storing your music on a computer that you sync your iPad mini to. You can then sync your iPod to the same computer to copy over the music to the iPod.

I would certainly not recommend it for college. You can't add the apps which serious courses are likely to require. The same could be true for HS, depending on what kind of courses you are taking. If all your teachers are using MS Word, then you should use that too for submitting assignments, and that requires a real computer.

- Try syncing the iPod to your computer. Then delete from iTunes and sync. that should delete it from the iPod. Then redownload it.

You have two separate questions here...
To get all your music into one playlist, select Music in the sidebar and click the Songs view at the top. Then, highlight all the songs and drag them into your playlist.
I don't know if it's possible to download all Purchased content (or do you mean iTunes Match content?) at once; try a few Google searches.

Don't know if there is an option make the download window stay up, but you can bring it back with Ctrl+J then right-click on the download to open the folder it was downloaded to.

You have to look at the system requirements for the app. the iPad 1 cannot run a version of iOS higher than 5.1.1. If the app requires a higher veriosn, you cannot run it.
System reqs for any app in the itunes store are at the left edge of the screen.
Fortunately most apps still run on the older iOS version
