Is the iPad iTunes app quite different than the regular PC

I'm new to iPad. I went to check out iTunes app on iPad, and it is so limited what you can do. Very different than regular PC. Is there something I am missing?

It depends on what you want to see/manage - you can tap on your id at at the bottom of, for example, the Music tab in the iTunes app (or via Settings > iTunes & App Stores) and you can view/manage your id, address and payment info.

Try quitting the Mail app like I describe and then reset your iPad. Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. The reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.

  • Itunes shows library different than on Touch

What's showing as on my IPod Touch 5th gen. is different than what's actually on the device and available for me to play.
I know, you won't believe me, but ITunes shows a whole different list of songs than what I see when I browse the device. It's like 2290 items according to iTunes, (good!), compared with 127 songs I can see on the device (bad!). Coincidentally, those 100 or so are all ones I've purchased from Apple.
The truth is that I've had persistent, massive problems with this thing over its life, which I've occasionally railed about here. Long story.
Question is, how do I get these two in sync again? - with all the tracks I've put on it, painstakingly, over hours and days. I suppose this could easily be for the ITouch forum, but I'm arbitrarily posting here because it occurs after hooking the device up to iTunes.
    Thanks for any info.

In an ideal world all of your media content is on your system drive, listed in iTunes and organized in a portable layout. You then have a complete clone of the iTunes folder as a backup. If your system drive is too small to hold everything then putting the entire library on an external drive with a backup on a second drive also works. If you want access to some content on the laptop when travelling without having to take the external then it is possible to split the library up and store some content locally and not others, but that requires more effort to get right.
I'm still not clear what has gone wrong on your system, but some third party tools (e.g. Sony VIAO media manager and some antivirus packages) can interfere with the way the iTunes updates its database files leading to the concessional corruption. iTunes also expects all media content to stay in the same place so any manual manipulation of the media folders can lead to trouble.

I'm not real sure about the error 404 code with regard to the App Store, but see if anything in either of these support articles helps you get connected to the App Store and the iTunes Store again.

  • Extreme Lag/Crash on New iPad iTunes App

when browsing the store, i get extreme lag on both page updating, touch ( when scrolling on screen, no response), and in a couple cases the iTunes App just flat out crashes to home screen

    same with my iTouch 4
I have been getting many LowMemory and MobileStore crashes since 2012-04-29
I updated to iOS 5.1.1 today hoping it would fix the problem but it is just the same.
    I have 2.3GB spare.
most problems seem to be with podcast pages with multiple entries.
mobileStore has been painfully slow since they added the DOWNLOADED symbols.
I had difficulty getting iTunes to see the iTouch, even after updating to the latest version (10.6.1.7)
since 5.1 I have normally had to stop and start apple services before seeing the iTouch in iTunes.

  • IPad iTunes app view

    Hi
the iTUNES  iPad app does not show the genres, bpm or comments. How do I view these? It is way more important to me than the album or the artwork?
    TIA
    Enio

I obviously misunderstood what you meant.  You are not asking about iTunes, you are asking about the Music App. iTunes is a link to the store on the iPad, it is not the media player. The Music App and the Videos App are the media players on the iPad.
In any event, if you are trying to change the view to your specifications, that cannot be done. There is some rearranging of the tabs at the bottom of the app that can be done, but IIRC, you have to be connected to Home Sharing for this options to appear in the Music App on the iPad. You cannot customize the way that you want to do it.

  • ITunes app quits

  • How is an app different than a regular program

I'm trying to figure out why I would want to download a program via the App Store vs downloading the dmg and installing it the old fashion way. What's the difference between and app and a regular program??? Take Pages. I can get it from the App Store or buy it and install it via the dmg. Is there a difference?
    Thanks!

Here is an excerpt of the Mac App Store ToU's:
LICENSED APPLICATION END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT
The Mac App Store Products and App Store Products (collectively, “App Store Product(s)”) made available through the Mac App Store Service and App Store Service (collectively, “App Store Service(s)”) are licensed, not sold, to you. Your license to each App Store Product that you obtain through the App Store Services is subject to your prior acceptance of this Licensed Application End User License Agreement (“Standard EULA”), and you agree that the terms of this Standard EULA will apply to each App Store Product that you license through the App Store Service, unless that App Store Product is covered by a valid end user license agreement between you and the Application Provider of that App Store Product, in which case the terms of that separate end user license agreement will govern. Your license to any Apple Product under this Standard EULA or separate end user license agreement is granted by Apple, and your license to any Third-Party Product under this Standard EULA or separate end user license agreement is granted by the Application Provider of that Third-Party Product. Any App Store Product that is subject to the license granted under this Standard EULA is referred to herein as the “Licensed Application”. The Application Provider or Apple as applicable (“Licensor”) reserves all rights in and to the Licensed Application not expressly granted to you under this Standard EULA.
    a. Scope of License: This license granted to you for the Licensed Application by Licensor is limited to a nontransferable license to use the Licensed Application on any Apple-branded products running iOS (including but not limited to iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch) (“iOS Devices”) or Mac OS X (“Mac Computers”), as applicable (collectively, “Apple Device(s)”) that you own or control and as permitted by the usage rules set forth in the Mac App Store, App Store and iBookstore Terms and Conditions (the “Usage Rules”). This license does not allow you to use the Licensed Application on any Apple Device that you do not own or control, and except as provided in the Usage Rules, you may not distribute or make the Licensed Application available over a network where it could be used by multiple devices at the same time. You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, transfer redistribute, or sublicense the Licensed Application and, if you sell your Mac Computer or iOS Device to a third party, you must remove the Licensed Application from the Mac Computer or iOS Device before doing so. You may not copy (except as expressly permitted by this license and the Usage Rules), decompile, reverse-engineer, disassemble, attempt to derive the source code of, modify, or create derivative works of the Licensed Application, any updates, or any part thereof (except as and only to the extent that any foregoing restriction is prohibited by applicable law or to the extent as may be permitted by the licensing terms governing use of any open-sourced components included with the Licensed Application). Any attempt to do so is a violation of the rights of the Licensor and its licensors. If you breach this restriction, you may be subject to prosecution and damages.
The terms of this license will govern any upgrades provided by Licensor that replace and/or supplement the original Licensed Application, unless such upgrade is accompanied by a separate license in which case the terms of that license will govern.
One of the differences is that having a physical copy you can sell the software if you no longer need or want it. As you can see above, you can't do that with any MAS purchase - that license is not transferable. So, you are helping the developer make more money by buying from MAS - when you sell your computer, the buyer has to buy the app again - that makes it at least twice the selling price.
By the way, the same rules apply to anyone purchasing Lion from the App Store - the license is not transferable and the OS must be wiped and the original OS re-installed before selling it. The buyer has to purchase Lion again.
Due to the fact that all these purchases are not only tied to your machine ID, but your Apple ID as well, workarounds won't work - the buyer will not be able to re-download (or maybe even update) their OS or whatever app came with the used computer they bought. They will have to purchase the app again: smart move here - instead of selling one physical disk, the app can now be sold (for a slightly lower price) several times again and again.
And, adding another thought for anyone who is concerned about privacy: both StoreAgent (an automatic background service which scans your hard drive when you launch the app store so it can offer you updates or customized advertisements) and the Genius (if activated) will track what you have installed. One of the reasons I do not visit the app store.
As for bandwidth, even if you have unlimited access and a fast connection, it is still a waste of resources to be forced to download a complete copy of the OS (close to 4 GB) when a local reinstall would suffice nicely and take less time and effort. I won't do it again after testing it a couple of times (I now have at least 5 different backups).

I can play my music and videos just fine but i cant access the store.. it happens on my iphone too. i cant access iTunes on my iPhone. i have all the latest downloads and all my software has been updated.. according to my computer.
    can someone help me?

Am having exactly the same problem. Unexpected quit when trying to connect to the store. The loading bar goes nearly the full way up and then it crashes. Appears to be a Java problem according to the error report.
Problem occurs on a mini 1.8 running 10.5.4 with iTunes 7.7. Problem occurred on 7.6 as well, and possibly earlier. No problem on my MB 2.2 with 10.4.11 and iTunes 7.7.
Permissions repairs, preference clears, and the usual fixes haven't worked.

  • IPad iTunes app: download error. Tap to retry

All song or movies download faces similar problem, cannot download with my iPad mini at all, with the most updated iOS. Not connection or memory problem. Took forever for apple customer support to answer me. Searched on my it seems this problem is faced by many people but no fix at all, can anyone help please...?

I have this problem too. In my humble opinion, it's nothing more then ugly bug in Apple programming. What's more disturbing is that it takes eternity to fix it.

  • ITunes app on iPad crashes immediately after launch, App Store app opens

I know that Ping isn't going to be available to be available until 4.2, but I the iPad iTunes app is still supposed to do something other than redirect to the App Store app right? Is anyone else experiencing this behavior? I've seen other reports of iPad iTunes app crashing under certain conditions, so perhaps this is related to that, I really don't know.
Do I need to restore my device? Will this simply be a non-issue when 4.2 rolls out?

    Hi retepppank69,
I have exactly the same problem. I had called AppleCare and told this problem. They say to me instantly that the best way is to exchange the iPad directly.
Today I sent to Apple my iPad and waiting now for the new iPad.

  • Ipad calendar app error

How can somebody else's event end up on my Ipad calander app? Different time zone, unknown event and definitely not anyone in my family who use the app. This seems simple; however, if this event was put on my calendar in the cloud then I think that is a problem.
    Thanks for any info

    Hello 7cyrus,
It may help to uninstall, then reinstall the application from the App Store.
