Is the ipad mini basically a larger ipod touch?

Is the ipad mini basically a larger ipod touch? I've got an iPod touch and I'm wondering if an ipad mini will do anything they iPod touch can't?

Well, not quite. The iPod Touch has a retina display, for example, and the iPad mini does not. There probably are some differences in speed of processor, but you can probably look that up for yourself.
Otherwise, there are specific Apps for the iPad and for the iPhone/iPod, though many are universal and work on both. Some games, for example work on one or another, and some game developers make you purchase separate versions.
Technically, they're close, but it's all about portability I suppose. I think that Apple has an idea that there is a range of portable devices, with some overlap, between the iPod nano up through a MacBook Pro. Each step gives you trade offs in price, usability, upgradeability, etc.

THis is means they are not charging on a 30 pin cable and the touch won't work in my Apple iPod dock - no audio out or charge. Have re powered both devices to no avail am wondering if the iOS version is the problem
    Help!

If it is a lightning to 30 pin adaptor, and you have a 7th Generation Nano it has to fit the Nano.
This is lightning to 30 pin adapter: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23174%3B---Lightning-to-30-Pin-Adapter/6651 936.p?id=1218803450821&skuId=6651936#tab=overview
    Is this what you bought?
You need to contact Sony and see if they model you have is compatible with the docking adapter. It may not be.

  • The iPad mini 4 will be a lot like a smaller iPad Air 2

I am trying to migrate my citrix server and when I install remote desktop licensing the service never appears. So When I go into licensing manager, it says there may be an issue with the service.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

It's usually the iPhone that dominates Apple's earnings reports but let's not forget about the iPad: if new reports out of Asia are to be believed we might get three new fruit-flavoured slates before Christmas. The leaked tips centre around the iPad mini 4, which sources say will be a shrunken iPad Air 2, complete with an A8 processor and an 8MP iSight camera. The dimensions will be the same as the iPad mini 3 except for the thickness, dropping to 6.1mm from 7.5mm.You may remember the rather underwhelming launch of the iPad mini 3, where Apple added Touch ID and very little else. This time around the upgrade looks much more substantial.Three's a crowdThe report also mentions the iPad Pro, the super-sized iPad that Apple has been rumoured to be building for several years. Apparently it will come out alongside the iPad Air 3 and the iPad...

  • I have an iPod touch 2nd generation. thinking of upgrading so should I go for the latest iPod touch or for the iPad mini?

I have an ipod touch 2nd generation. I am thinking of upgrading so should I go for the latest ipod touch or for the ipad mini?

It all depends upon your uses and preferences. The iPod had a bigger screen and is physically bigger and has an option cellular radio.

  • Why is the iPad Mini slower than iPod touch 4 at buffering video?

As mentioned in the title I have an iPad Mini that is being outperformed by my iPod touch 4. I have been using both devices on the same network and on You Tube the iPod is a lot faster at loading, Furthermore, when using BBC iPlayer I can connect with the iPod and watch whereas the iPad Mini comes up that there is insufficient bandwidth and doesn't even play.
I was convinced that the iPad Mini would be faster than my iPod which is a year older. I am really disappointed about this and have tried as many things as I can possibly think of. Is anyone else out there experiencing these problems and, if so, do you have any advice on what I can do to solve this problem.
    Kind regards,
    Emubob

I noticed that my iPad is far more sensitive to signal fluctuations than my MBP. The MBP would report 5 bars, but the iPad would drop the connection every 3 seconds. It turned out that the router was varying the signal, and the iPad couldn't keep a solid connection.

  • Can I use iPod Touch apps on the iPad Mini?

I have purchased iPod touch apps and movies for my iPod and now would like an iPad Mini. Can I use all of my old apps to transfer them to my iPad Mini?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
iPad apps are supported on the iPad mini, so some applications will work on the iPad mini and other not, and you'll have to purchase the iPad version of other programs

  • I was thinking of buying my wife an ipad mini. I already have an ipad, ipod and iphone working on itunes on my PC. Will the ipad mini work along with all the others?

    Hello,
I was thinking of getting my wife an ipad mini. I use a PC with Windows 7, latest version of itunes installed. From this I have an ipad, ipod and iphone, all of which work perfectly. My question is will the ipad mini also work and be recognised as another device?
Can I put some of my existing Apps onto the mini?
    Thanks in advance.

Sure, but only if the new iGadget is "married" to the rest by virtue of having the same AppleID. You will be able to back up, update and upgrade its contents, apps and iOS on the iTunes application on the PC.
However, if it shares the same AppleID as the rest of your toys, she will be able to read your mail and see your messages, which could eventually lead to battles royal on who said what to whom. So beware, you have been warned.

  • Why does the iPad Mini not have music play count?

I bought an iPad Mini and also have a macbook. I had listened to various music on my iPad Mini the other day, however when I connected the iPad Mini to the Macbook and iTunes via the lightning connector to sync, it synced the ratings I gave the songs I listened to on the mini, but no play count, as if I had not listened to anything. I hope there is something I can do about this as I often look at my play count!!

    Katrina UK
It should work work but these kind of bugs pop up between updates, both hardware and software. Try closing all apps in the recently used list on the iPad. Double tap the Home button, tap and hold one of the icons at the bottom till they wiggle then tap the to close them. Tap the Home button to get back to the Home screen then hold the sleep button till you see the slide to power off message. Once it has powered down completely hold the Sleep button till the Apple icon appears.

Nov 18, 2012 11:34 AM (in response to Katrina UK)
    Does it even really matter...?
Many people including myself rely on playcounts to control smart playlist to manage large libraries. Smart playlists can be created to show your most or least played tracks and used more or less as your favorites or other uses. Along with playcounts the date is transferred so to keep a fresh list of music on my smaller iPods a smart playlist set to songs not played in the last month keeps some fresh tunes on it.
Playcounts are also used to manage Podcasts in iTunes to delete older episode. Bookmarks, which can also be effected by this, can mess up audiobooks, movies and podcast playback between different devices. So yes, it does matter.

  • Given the size and of the iPad Mini Wider is better. Why don't Apple design the next iPhone to be a bit wider?

After using one of the competition's wide screen phone, I found myself using it more then my iPhone. Though it wasn't as good of a user experience as my iPhone, the wider viewing display grabbed my attention. Viewing video content on their wider phones, sadly is much better in my opinion. The reason, the content that display at an 16x9 ratio. Wider is the way to go, truth to this is found in Reviews regarding the new iPad mini. The iPad mini has been said to have a perfect size screen when viewing content and playing Multitouch games. It has a better screen resolution as compared to it competitor. The iPad 3 and 4 have gorgeous Retina displays. Why not have a wider iPhone that's both thin and wider so we can enjoy our digital media we've purchased from Apple to have that same comfort level we get from the iPad? Having a display to be available at a resolution that's at a 16x9 Ratio is better regarding content. I love the iPhone, we need to finally go wider on the iPhone. Content viewing is being effected by the screen size on such a magnificent device. If Apple posted up a vote regarding their content displayed on their iOS devices, I'm sure people would agree that the resolution found on the iPad and iPad mini are much superior when viewing Apple's video content then from what you get from both the iPhone and iPod Touch. Not because they are smaller, it's the width of the screen then the mire size. Apple's video content is around about an 16x9 ratio as like most if not all of the content found on iTunes and the Apps store. I've found myself wanting an iPad mini as a substitute to my iphone. Wider viewing is best for Apple's video content, working documents and game play. I would surely be happier with a wider screen phone then to travel with both devices to be able to enjoy my media.

I don't know why you wasted your time and bothered to post this in a user to user technical forum.

  • How do i only disable the icloud on the ipad mini only?

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro, iphone 5 and a ipad mini. I would like to know how do I disable the icloud settings on only my ipad mini? Basically, I do not want icloud Active  on the ipad mini.. I only want it active only on my macbook pro and on my iphone 5.

Meaning, that in the future when I do go to make it active on the ipad mini..... Just go to the icloud tab and just sign into it on the ipad mini and it will make it active again...

  • Is the ipad mini worth it?

I am going to get an Ipad mini soon. I never owned an IPAD just a Itouch 3rd gen 32GIG, IPhone 4 16GB, and IPhone 4s 16GB. I would like to try a ipad but the big ones are to expensive so I am thinking of getting an ipad mini and how come they didn't add retina display to the ipad mini if they could add it on the IPhone 4 and 4s?

As far as I know Apple haven't said why they didn't put a retina display on the Mini, but it may be due to pricing. As to whether it's worth it, only you know what you will be using it for and whether you will get value from owning one. From a size point of view it will be better than your phone or iPod for watching films or tv shows, and for browsing the internet and reading ebooks - you should also be able to more easily hold it one hand than the full-sized iPads.

  • Will the iPad Mini connect to LinkSys WRT54G Router

Will the iPad Mini connect Via WiFi to a LinkSys Wireless G Braodband Router?
The model is WRT54G V5, SN CDFBOE865514 and Firmware is the latest 1.02.8 dated 5 Oct 2009
My wife's iPad 2 connects to it well but we have been unable to connect the new iPad Mini to it.
I have read in some of your notes that the Mini will only connect to Firmware 1.02.8n.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Why wasn't the new iPad Mini called the iPad Mini 2 ?

The title given to it "iPad Mini Retina Display" is hardly a snappy title, especially when compared to the other iPads.
Could it be that this is not a major new version but an interim model ( a bit like Windows Vista was an interim until Microsoft were ready to launch Windows 8 ), to try and stem the drift away from Apple to Android this Christmas, until Apple are ready to introduce the real iPad Mini 2 model next year ?

    95bulls wrote:
It had no big improvement except the retina display, therefore it doesn't really qualify to be called the iPad 2.
Not true. The iPad mini with Retina Display also has the new A7 CPU, significantly improved GPU, the M7 Motion Coprocessor, probably more RAM (though that's not yet confirmed), and options for larger storage along with a few other new features. So it would by most measures qualify to be called an 'iPad mini 2", though Apple chose not to. They didn't designate the 3rd gen iPad and 4th-gen iPad as "iPad 3" or "iPad 4", either. Why they didn't we can only guess.
