Is the iPad slow - a thought from a new user

just sitting here at a Starbucks with my new iPad and seeing it do everything internet related at a SNAILS PACE. Not fun.
Attempting to download Pages.app it just crawls. I'll have to come back here the next seven nites in a row to complete things.
Would love to watch all my .mov files but every single one has to be transcoded to iPad compatible format. I should just be able to drag copy them to iTunes and have it handle the recode but thats not possible at this time. Hello QTP7 and manually exporting every one of them. Further once I get all 55 videos recoded - oh joy at the dog-slow USB2.0 connector in getting those onto this video hungry device.
And that brings up the basic pragmatic problem with any iPad: its a video racehorse. Once you finally get a video playing on this thing it is MAGIC. Yes, 10 inches of ultra gorgeous lightweight screen space, playing your very interesting vid. NICE.
But wifi/3G/usb just completely fail to deliver on video. Thats why its not used in the video editing world, these protocols are just too slow. FCP editors use Firewire. So why did these get incorporated into the iPad ? Who knows, makes no sense.
You like waiting ? Me either, and Im doing alot of this now....
Most all of the things I want to do with my new iPad:
watching videos from YouTube
watching my own iPad converted videos that I never bothered to watch on my Mac laptop
watching Netflix
watching PBS's excellent series
watching Nat Geo
watching Comedy Central
watching DVD's from my favorite Cinefile video store
are blocked because the tiny straw usb/3g/wifi connections are so bandwidth limited as to cause a sane person to weep.
I want to believe, but it aint happening. Perhaps wait for iPad 2.0 I guess.

That would be an issue with Starbucks internet connection - not your iPad.

Well, that'll be because your particular .mov files use a different codec to the ones the iPad supports. Try exporting your .mov files in a more universal format.

Use Handbrake which can batch encode as many videos as you want to iPad format.
But wifi/3G/usb just completely fail to deliver on video.
You're up against the technical limitations of those transfer methods. Wireless is never as fast as wired. 3G is never as fast as WiFi. Maybe in a few years, the technical boffins will have invented even faster wireless standards.
Saying that though... I've never had any issues streaming movies to my iPad over my local network or a decent internet connection.
All of the things you list work fine on my iPad - but then again I'm using a decent internet connection - not sharing a free one at a coffee shop which is probably limited in speed anyway and is shared with everyone else in the coffee shop..

Upon applying for Telstra contract, salesman filled out all details & I was approved immed. He grabbed a new iPad 2 from the store's stock, all plastic wrapped, a white 32 gb. He then asked me if I needed to go and do some shopping as he had mucked something up and had to redo application. Everything had been completed and approved on screen, so I wasn't sure why he had asked me to come back in half an hour. I did so, and upon arriving back he was standing at the desk, iPad in hand together with receipt and box, no evidence of shrink wrap. As I already had bought a red cover, he basically grabbed that and slipped the iPad straight into it, without really asking me, and said, all ready to go. Was a bit surprised but accepted that. Did not see it being unwrapped, sim inserted or anything. Thought it to be odd, and without any further advice, was handed bag, box and receipt. Got home, thought it looked a bit fingerprinty, then wondered why it was basically set up ready to go. He knew I was a gadget freak, owning 25 wifi related devices, but had never bought apple products so he said I'd have no problems. There was virtually no set up to go through except for asking if I had an apple ID which I didn't so I created that and away I went. I was looking through the settings a bit later and noticed the ITunes said to sync back with WILLS-MSI when it was available. WILLS is the name of the store. There was a 32 gb white iPad 2 as a display model and now I am seriously wondering if he has taken that off the shelf and given to me. I have never in my life bought a display model and never would. From my description do you think I may be right? ( even the silver back looked 'not quite new').
OPINIONS appreciated, is there anyway of checking to see if a reset has been done as I am not at all happy & will be going straight to store manager on opening of store.

No. The photos will remain in iPhoto on your computer. You are just deleting them from the iPad.

The "lower specs" have nothing to do at all with why you cannot print. Are you connected to the same Wi-Fi network that the printer & the iPad 3 is on?

Originally I thought it was the old Moutain Lion DVD drive issue (but have had the drive recently replaced by Apple), so I tried creating a new account, which worked.
In the old account I have reset SMU, Pram... but no change.

The Mac IIci is not even powering on at all. Tried again with wih a tested power cable and no luck.
I think it's best that take this issue to the Older Hardware Community. Not only did I see a fair number of replacement parts for the IIci avaiable online, but there also vintage external floppy drives as well. I'm not giving up.

Does the iPad mini have the same slow charging issues as my "New IPad"?

I'm considering returning my New IPad and purchasing the iPad mini due to the slow charging issues with my New IPad. Does anyone know if the mini has the same issue? Does anyone know if Apple is planning on offering a different charger for the New IPad? I love everything about the New IPad except the charging system. I can't use it as much as I would like to. It's so disappointing!!!!

I also have issues when charging my brand new iPad mini. I got astonished when I tried to charge it yersterday and realized it took more more time to charge than my iPod Touch 4th generation, which really charges very fast! It even did'nt charge completely so when I got home I put mi iPad mini to charge overnight, at about 12.30 AM, when it had about 13% charge left.
This morning I got shocked when I saw at 6 Am that it hadn't charged completely. Just 96%, which means the iPad mini can't be totally charged during a 6 hours charging session. So after reading all these posts I get disappointed with this huge issue for iPad users. How can we endure such a long charging sessions for a device that you normally use all the time. For instance, when you're traveling you always need to charge the iPad very quickly. Just a few travelers would allow their ipads to rule their schedules on such a bizarre way!
I was also worried because I don't live in the States. It was my brother who bought it for me, so taking my device to the Apple Glass Cube in New York or any other retailer or just to have this issue technically solved is a big problem for me! So international customers who think to buy this wonderful mini tablet should consider that such a marvelous device is dealing with an absurd and disappointing big problem related to an aspect customers would hardly imagine.

In settings>iCloud>finder. Is ON
I appear to not be able to practice a " find " from my own iPad.
I need someone else's iPad or iPhone that also has fine my iPad/iPhone ?
But then I would only get the same circle that I have now....please install finder etc turn it on etc on their device.
I do not see from any literature or advice how I actually locate a lost or misplaced device.

1. It is never a good idea to include personal info like your email address or Apple ID in a post on an open forum.
2. The email you received DOES NOT say your Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this iPad. The email informs you that your Apple ID was used to unlock an iPad. Fortunately the iPad is yours. The message confirms that. If your Apple ID was used to unlock an iPad that was not yours your would then know to change your password. Since the iPad is yours you do not need to change your password.

How can I set up printing to queues on a Windows 2008 server directly from the iPad apps and not from third-party applications without using AppleTalk or Bonjour?

We have a Windows 2003/2008 server-based network with a dedicated print server which we would like to be able to print to over Wi-Fi. How can I set up the printers on the iPad without downloading a third party application such as Print Central or Print N Share? I want to just click the arrow and "Print" then choose the printer, which doesnt show up. I want to be able to use the existing TCP/IP-based network that we have to reach these queues, not having to install Bonjour or AppleTalk to reach them.

This would really be the "Holy Grail" right now. I think this a feature that every large organization requires. AirPrint works on a small scale, but is not really an enterprise class application. In addition it uses the Bonjour discovery process which is difficult in a large LAN WAN environment. For those that would remind me, I am aware of the enhancement link

Why has mail on the ipad grouped several emails from different people with different subject matter into one thread?

This is really annoying.
The email initially started with me sending to one person. Which we then conversed several times without any issues.
I then sent a separate email completely unrelated to someone on a completely different email address, but when they replied back somehow their reply joined the same thread as this other email i sent initially.
Thinking that it might be a one of... I ignored it.
However, just now, an email i created through the LinkedIn app, which i sent from LinkedIn to a contact, somehow joined that first thread, when the person on linked in replied back to me.
Obviously i receive an email to my Mail account whenever someone messages me on linked in... But why on earth would that reply automatically get grouped into the completely different thread of emails?
I NOW have emails to three different people who are completely unrelated with three completely unrelated subjects, that are appearing in one thread with no obvious way to separate these.
Any solutions or suggestions? I've tried to move them, but it will only let me move the the messages into different folders, and not my inbox as separate messages.

Thanks for the response. Regarding your question, Yes, I have confirmed that people were receiving multiple copies.
I've confirmed this as I had left a Gmail message open on my browser window and opened that same message from Mail: As I was writing the response from Mail, without sending anything, new notifications started to appear over the same message in the browser window, notifying me there were new messages from Myself! So when I started to open those "new replies", I came to the conclusion that as I was typing, a draft was being saved and sent as a new message at the same time, therefore sending a lot of emails until I finished to write the message without knowing...
Hard to explain but hope I've made my point.

Is the iPad 30pin cable different from the iPod/iPhone 30pin?

The original iPads used the same 30 pin cable as the original iPhones and iPods.
New ipads are using the Lightning cable as are the iPhone 5s.

Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account (this disconnects the device from icloud but doesn't delete any data on icloud or on other devices).
If you then want to sign back in using a different ID, do so on the same screen.
