Is the iPhone 3G's dock connector compatible with the 3GS?

A few days ago, my iPhone 3GS stopped charging. After some research I've determined this is due to a faulty dock connector. I'm out of warranty so I can't get a replacement from Apple, and I don't want to purchase a new phone since a new iPhone is rumored to be announced as early as next month. I've been using my brother's old iPhone 3G in the meantime, but now I'm wondering if I can just take the dock connector out of the 3G and put it into the 3GS. Does anyone know if this will work? If they aren't compatible, I noticed that Amazon sells some cheap third party dock connectors. Reviews suggest that people have had varying experiences with them. Does anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive third party connector?

yes it is same with iphone4 and 4s

  • I need an RCA to ipod dock connector, compatible with touch.

I've seen many RCA to dock cables, but i've seen most of them through reviews are not capatible with the iphone, so im guessing its not compatible with itouch? Is there any RCA to dock cable specifically compatible with the touch?

If you have a dock there is a minijack female in the dock which will provide you equal quality.
Or, if you search through the threads, someone else found a dock/RCA cable, but I believe the quality may have been a little dubious.

  • My 3GS keeps switching between iPhone speaker and Dock connector and I don't know how to keep it on iPhone speaker

My 3GS keeps switching between iPhone speaker and Dock connector and I don't know how to keep it on iPhone speaker so I can listen to my music and games.  Is it hardware or software problem?

I was told by a friend that sometimes when you use a 3rd party charger that the connectors are not the same size and so it can affect the sensors in the phone and make it seem like it is in a docking station and so changes the output for dock speakers.  With that said, I didn't take my pohone in to be serviced at the appple store because it was a 3GS and over 2 years old and so not covered by any service plan.  Since then my phone is back to normal and I can use my headphones and listen with the speakers on the phone.  I stoped using the suspected cheap 3rd party charger and maybe that's what did it, but not sure if it was or wasn't the cause of my problem.  I'm glad that my phone is better I was kinda holding out for the Iphone 5 when i comes out later and hope my phone lasted until then.

  • 3rd gen 40g dock connector touchwheel with 4 buttons above wheel

i have old 3rd gen 40g dock connector touchwheel with 4 buttons above wheel. does not have firewire port on top , just hold switch and funky headphone jack for wired remote control . battery has long since died but still runs fine off wall current charger which has fire wire connector on wall socket end. i try to plug ipod into my laptop with usb cable to charge and update the ipod and i get the battery sign with exclamation mark in triangle on ipod screen and computer doesnt charge or recognize the ipod connected. my laptop does not have firewire port. is there a way that i can connect this old ipod to new laptop to charge and or update ipod with my new library? i dont care if battery is dead , i just leave on wall current in my office to play but would love to be able to update the library on the old boy. i have new shuffle/nano and itouch for traveling.

an update - it seems to be the 2 skip buttons, play and menu, and also the centre ok button not working at all. the wheel responds slowly. something just occured to me and i tried to use the remote which came with my ipod. this works fine with no problems but is annoying as i can't select certain songs, i have to start at the beginning and skip to where i want to get.

  • Speaker Docks 100% Compatible With iPhone 3G?

Are there ANY speaker docks that are truly 100% compatible with the iPhone 3G? Speaker docks that will charge the iPhone 3G WITHOUT a USB connection, won't keep offering to put the iPhone 3G in Airplane mode, and will play music without any interference from the iPhone's cell radio?
If you know of any, please list them in your reply. I haven't found any yet.

I occasionally get that message with a standard iPhone usb cable -- the once that came with my 3GS. This could be due to debris in the connectors: It would not take much to make for a bad connection.
You might want to try cleaning them by using a clean dry toothbrush.

  • IPhone 3G Dock not compatible with iPhone 3G (or 3G s)

I bought an iPhone 3G dock a few months ago and I'm having problems with it. I had an iPhone 3G and recently upgraded to the 3Gs. This problem is on both phones, but more often seen with the 3Gs. When I plug it in, I get the message telling me "this accessory is not compatible with the iPhone and asks me to turn on airplane mode. When I say no, the message haunts me multiple times. It's really annoying when I charge the phone at night since the screen turns on multiple times, waking me up; or when I have it charging on the dock and an audio out cable plugged into external speakers. (When the message comes up, the audio stops). I've heard a few people talking about this but haven't found a solution. Is this just "the way" it is with 3G docks, or is mine faulty? If so, has Apple recognized it and honors a warranty? It's pretty annoying IMHO and seems pretty out of character for Apple Quality Control...

  • Will the iPhone 5S and C be compatible with Wind mobile

i saw the us and canadian tech specs for the 5s and c and they are the same. since tmobile is selling the new iphones i am assuming they will work on wind mobile network in canada. can someone confirm

No. No one can confirm. Wind Mobile is NOT a supported carrier. There is no reason to believe that the upcoming 5C or 5S will be any more compatible with Wind Mobile than the current 5 is.

  • Sony iPod Dock Not Compatible with iOS 4

I play a 3GS through a Sony HD-radio with a dock on the top. Upgrading the 3GS to 4.0 resulted in a popup that says "this accessory is not compatible with iPhone." It was yesterday - now it isn't. Apple: Did you break accessory compatibility on purpose? If not, will you please fix?
Message was edited by: Four to the Side

I invested in a nice expensive Sony wireless speakers sound system with an iphone dock. Worked perfectly until the stupid 4.0 update came out, and now it brings out the same stupid error message all the time and I can't play any streaming media, on the sound system, which was the main reason I bought the originally compatible sound system. Great job apple !! They are trying to expand too fast, and now they are producing mediocre products ! I am really upset about this ! I just want to downgrade the **** software back to 3.1 and then never update it again :?

  • Dock station compatible with new nano with multi-touch

Does anybody knows if JBL OnStage IIIP Speakers are compatible with the new iPod nano with multi-touch?
    Thanks.

I don't think you understand the problem then. When pressing 'menu/back' on the remote it goes back to the Album list, but there's nothing 'highlighted' and hence no way to switch between different Albums.
I'm guessing it's because it doesn't make sense to have navigation highlighting on a touch only device.
It does, however, work on the iPhone 3gs (and all other ipods I've tried), which is why I'm hoping for an update from apple that would fix this. I don't see why they'd purposely make previous ipod docks incompatible with the new nano... then again, it's Apple.
There's a bunch of software issues with the new nano, so I guess they'll have their hands full with more important problems for the time being.
I don't see how JBL could fix this.

  • IPhone 2.0 software now compatible with Photoshop Elements 6?

While the current software is compatible with earlier versions of Photoshop Elements, it is not compatible with Elements 6 since Abobe changed their database (nor longer using Access). I notice that the specs on iPhone 3G say compatible with Photoshop Elements.
Can anyone confirm that means Elements 6?

However, to be fair, while there may be savings to be had, your company would have to replace existing phones with iPhones and tie everyone into one carrier (which accross a multi-office environment may not be practical, due to coverage issues). The iPhone does not offer the level of encryption available to a Blackberry/RIM handset, or the ability to enforce security policies on handsets, which may be a concern to your IT and Security people. It also misses some useful features (such as searching email for words/phrases. This is a feature I use regularly on my Blackberry, and I'm disappointed to not find it on my iPhone. ). And there is the whole, One Vendor issue that may worry some (you can connect non-RIM, e.g. Nokia, etc, phones to your BES providing the phone supports the required blackberry software).
I've got to say, as much as I love my iPhone (and I'm personally migrating from my blackberry to it) I don't think I'd recommend it as an enterprise phone.... yet... It's still got a way to go. As a personal+business phone, I'm giving it a shot (as the personal side is quite good). My current employer is a small company, with no BES, so I use my carrier's BIS, and get by with it. As such, the calendar+contacts sync available through mobileMe is a plus . If I was planning IT direction for a larger organisation though, I'd be considering the iPhone (if for no other reason than an excuse to play with one ), but I wouldn't be preparing a migration just yet!

  • What speakers/docks are compatible with 3Gen iPod (touchwheel)?

I have an old 10GB, 3Gen iPod (touchwheel) that has served me well for 4 years until I recently replaced it with an iPod Touch.
I don't want to just chuck the 3G, though, so I thought I'd set it up with a speaker/dock in one of the kids rooms. Problem is, I've tried 3 different speaker systems from 2 different manufacturers, and none will CHARGE/POWER the 3G (remember, while the 3G saw the introduction of the dock connector, it required a powered Firewire cable to charge... it will NOT charge over USB... which is the wire that most of these speaker docks seem to use).
Since the battery on the 3G is shot, a speaker system that powers the iPod is essential.
Anyone know of a manufacturer/product (either old or new) that will power an old 3G iPod? I know I could just plug some powered speaker into the iPod, but that's hardly an elegant solution IMHO.
    Thank you!

Thanks for the prompt response.  I have just returned an Intempo to Amazon as my Touch 4g would not fit on the pins which is the problem that I am having with the 2 I already had for previous Ipods.  I will look again for another intempo model incase I missed it.....many thanks
