Is the iPhone 4 a world phone?

I have an iPhone for and I'm on a local network in Canada (Rogers). I'm travelling to the UK and would like to know if my phone will roam in the UK, or am I bound to wi-fi access only? I don't understand what other posts here are talking about when they mention CDMA, or how to tell if my phone is GSM.
Thanks, Apple peeps!

Hello Sanderella,
I assume you are speaking of the iPhone 4 and not the 4s, as the title suggest. In the case of the iPhone 4, read the following:
The iPhone 4 on the ATT network is a GSM phone. The iPhone 4 on the Verizon network is a CDMA phone. If you have an ATT iPhone then the answer is yes. If you have a Verizon iPhone, well then you are out of luck, for ATT works off the GSM as does most of the rest of the world, thus allowing it to work as a "world phone".
According to the an FCC filing reported by TUAW (posted Jun 7th 2010), the iPhone 4 antenna pentaband antenna/chipset allows it to operate on the GSM and supports the 900 MHz UMTS/HSDPA. This will allow users who go over seas to have "access to extended 3G networks" over different fequenies allowing the iPhone to connect to "virtually any GSM 3G network in the world"
Full story in the link. Hope this is help full.

No, if it doesn't have a sim slot. However, the model number you posted is for a Verizon iPhone 4S. That model does have a sim slot, & if Verizon unlocks the sim slot, it can be used on GSM networks outside of the US.

  • Why do i constantly get cut off on calls.  I've had this problem with my 3GS, my 4S and now my iPhone 5.  When the core functionality is Phone, i.e. the ability to talk, why can't Apple make the iPhone function as a Phone?  is there an App for that !!

Well, since you've had the same problem, with three different phones, that all use different size sim cards, it seems pretty obvious the problem is with your carrier/coverage & nothing to do with your phone or sim card.

  • My iphone was stolen, and was erased all the data, how can i block or cut the iphone service on my phone?, my iphone was stolen, and was erased all the data, how can i block or cut the iphone service on my phone?

Only your carrier can Blacklist the phone, so contact them.

  • How is the iPhone compare to other phones

It looks interesting but i think its kinda difficult to use because it a touch screen.. What do you think?

After a little practice, the touch screen is pretty easy to use.
The iPhone is a nice phone but it's not for everyone. If you're into MMS, texting multiple people, this is not the phone for you. If you want a phone with the best web browsing capabilities, email, iPod functionality then it's a great phone.

  • T-mobile iPhone 6 a "World Phone?"

This website claims that the contract free unlocked full price iPhone 6 purchased from Apple works on the T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon networks merely by swapping out the SIM cards from the respective carriers.  This would seem to indicate that this iPhone model is a CDMA version with both GSM and CDMA radios, similar to the model that is offered by Verizon.  And it would make the T-mobile iPhone 6 more of a world phone than, say, the iPhones sold by AT&T or those iPhones without a CDMA radio.  Can anyone confirm this?

No, the full price non-contract T-mobile iPhone is NOT an unlocked iPhone.  It is simply one that is not subsidized by contract.  It will still have to be activated using a T-mobile nano-sim, used on their network for whatever period of time they specify, and then be unlocked by T-mobile.  After that, you can use it with AT&T.

  • Does the iPhone support pre-paid phone cards?

Just debating whether I get an iPhone to replace both my iPod Touch and my phone.
Does it support pre-paid calling cards like Bell's and the other phone companies?

The better question would be does the company you want to get pre-paid cards from support the iPhone.
For example, in the US, AT&T will not. You may be able to get it to work for voice, but as soon as they realize you have an iPhone, they will cut you off. I believe T-Mobile works fine, but you can't use T-Mobile's 3G network in the US as it's not compatible.
Check with the carrier(s) you want to use. Technically, an unlocked iPhone 4 will work on any compatible GSM network, though not all functions will work depending on the network provider.

  • Does the IPhone 3G support multiple phone lines?

Looking into purchasing the iphone 3G - does the 3G support multiple Phone lines or numbers? Such as a business and personal number?

You should probably call and ask AT&T, as that would be something that would need to be configured on their end.

  • Is It Just Me Or Are The New Updates To The IPhone Messing Up My Phone?

Ok, so ever since the IPhone 4 came out, there have been more software updates to previous IPhones which is normal, but I've had problems. Actually, EVERYONE who I know that has an IPhone has been having problems with the new updates. By problems I mean my phone freezes all the time, all my apps crash, my keyboard is all jacked up, my phone randomly shuts off and the list continues...so annoying. I'm not a very technical person but I relate the problems to the new updates. Honestly, I think it's been happening as a way for Apple to make us buy the new IPhone...all the problems are starting to convince me to trade it in for an IPhone 4. They win.

YES! YES! YES! It totally hosed mine. Of ocurse, let me preface this by saying that my iPhone has been a piece of crap since day one. I have a 3G. When I first got it I could barely hear anyone on my phone even turned all the way up. After the frist update I did it was somewhat better but not great. After last one I did, it would shut itself off when I was texting or using the internet. A LOT! I could be sitting right beside my husband and have no bars. And he'd have wifi and I couldn't get it. Not a foot apart! Wrote Apple. They sent me a phone to use while they were fixing mine. This one does the same exact thing. I will NEVER have another iphone!

  • Iphone 4S, a world phone

What does it mean that iphone 4S will be a world phone? When you buy it, it will be unlock for using it in other country or you still need to sign a contract?

You will still need to sign a contract. I have not heard that it will be sold unlocked. What makes it a World Phone is that it can be used on either CDMA or GSM Networks.
You will have more choice of carriers with a single phone.

  • Is the Xperia Play a world phone?

The specs say no. The Experia Play on Verizon is not a world phone and has CDMA radios only. http://www.verizonwireless.com:80/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=5643&deviceCategoryId=1

    Apple hasn't stated anything.

  • Isn't the iPhone to be a phone too?

Haven't been able to make a or receive a bloody call for the last few days.
I am with Rogers, and every time I make a call, it dropped a few seconds after connecting, same thing receiving calls.
I 2.1 and up to date with upgrades... any ideas?
    Roberto

Try a complete reset (several ways to do this, holding the sleep and home buttons for long enough for the Apple logo to appear or even in many degrees from the 'Settings' menu) or at least reset your network settings by turning on Airplane Mode, wait 30 (or 60 seconds just to be sure) and then switch it off again <---this bit is meant to reset all wireless communications aspects of the iPhone at the same time.
    Good luck!
