Pay no attention to iinami, the amount of replies to people saying their handsets must have been jailbroken everytime iTunes throws out an error is tremendous. (Clearly you don't need to have any real knowledge to get to level 3 on these forums, let's hope apple's geniuses know a lot more than some of their customers.)

Why would you do that? The power adapter has protective circuits at both the input and output. If you attached 260VAC to the input, it is likely to shut down, and can be reset by unplugging the power adapter, and plugging it into an AC outlet with the proper voltage. I'm sure you have plenty of follow-on questions ("how about 400VAC, 2000VAC, a million billion trillion volts AC), and I won't entertain those.

When will people in the UK get siri business

I got my new iphone 4s in decemeber 2011, its my fault for not checking that siri is in beta and that it dont have as many features as i saw in the ads but im still happy with my purchase.
My question is tho when will i get the other features im in the uk and i would like to get the business searching for siri, does anyone know when they are doing an update for it?

Would the iPhone get completely wiped off when 1st backing up on new laptop

Hi,
My laptop has died and I am about to authorise a new laptop (this will be my 2nd) to be able to backup my iPhone.
I've heard some horror stories going around that when I first backup an iPhone in a new machine everything gets completely wiped off.
Is this true? I have 150 applications and gigabites of music. As you can imagine I don't want to start it from scratch or lose everything.
Any ideas?
By the way, the previous iPhone backups from the dead laptop are saved on the harddrive which has been saved when the laptop died.

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with ONE computer at a time. If you attempt to sync such content with a second computer, all itunes content will first be erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer.
Your photos & music you ripped on your own will have to be extracted from your phone using third party software, as Apple makes no provision for this since it's expected that you maintain a backup. Your photos were reduced in resolution when synced to your phone to display on the phone. There is no way to recover their full resolution. You need to recover these photos & music before you proceed. Photos in your camera roll can be imported to your new computer.

Next, disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected, under preferences in itunes, which in Windows I believe is under the edit menu.
Next, go up to Store>Authorize this computer.
Next, make sure you have at least one contact & one event in whatever supported program you use for that purpose on your computer(Outlook, Windows Address Book). They can be fake, it doesn't matter.
Next, connect your phone. DO NOT SYNC at this point.
Right click the phone in the device pane & select "Reset Warnings".
Next, go up to "File", "Transfer purchases made on this ipod/iphone to this computer".
Your purchased music/apps will then be transferred to itunes. Music you ripped on your own will not. You'll have to restore that from your backup, which apparently doesn't exist, or use third party software already referenced.
Next, right click again & select BACKUP.
Next, restore your phone from the backup you just made.
This must be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content. Which is selected from the various tabs. You should get a prompt regarding your contacts & calendar asking to "merge" or "replace". Select "merge"
That's as good as it gets.

I do love the look of the iPhone and everything else, it is brilliant all in one thing.
However, I did not buy one for myself just yet....
As, my friend have one, and my friend let me to play with, so I was fiddling around with it, and playing with the iPhone.
However there is one problem, that there is no camera flash or bright light to make the object/people to be visible. Like being in nightclub. or other darker places.
Which there is other mobile phones, do offer the light or flash already built in.
Which I am bit disappointed.
So I was wondering when they will add this option...?
Also they need to improve the Photo taking option, as sometimes when I try to snap shot something, and notice the images are bit blurry, so it needs a very firm hands to shoot the images accurately, without the look of being blurred, so it is annoying in some ways...!
So I will wait until they improves on this phone a bit further...

I don't have any problem taking good pictures and I don't have super steady hands.

Email on the IPhone gets deleted when the email is checked on the PC

My boss gave me the task of figuring out issues on his IPhone 4G so here I am. He says when he checks an email on his personal computer, that same email gets deleted on his IPhone. We use Windows Mail and I'm sure it's POP. I've googled this in countless different ways with no clear answer so here I am in the Apple forums! He was also curious about saving excel/word documents but from what I've read, you're only able to email them and view them in Safari, correct?

POP wasn't really designed to be checked from different computers/mobile devices, so this can indeed cause problems sometimes.
His e-mail client is probably set up in a way that e-mails will be removed from the server as soon as the e-mail is downloaded to the computer (better known as checked).
If this is the case: he can change the settings of his e-mail client to leave the mail on the server after it has been checked, either for a certain period of time or indefinitely.
This might however be against company policy, because this will require more server space, if everybody will do this.

It is normal for the phone to get hot when your using data such as YouTube videos, streaming music etc.. And as for the left speaker not working, the left speaker is a microphone, the right one is for sound. Don't worry, everything your iPhone is doing is normal.

It's been a long while in tech-time since the iPhone and Siri hit the market, but still Siri doesn't do locations in Canada. Any word of when or IF, Apple is ever going to make the service available for the Great White North? Don't we deserve the same service as our US cousins?

This statement is not entirely true. It says clearly in Siri FAQ "Maps and local search support will be available in additional countries in 2012". However they don't state which countries only additional. Sync deletes contacts on the iPhone

I am a fairly well-experienced Apple user but cannot - for the life of me - figure out why contacts I put into my iPhone 4 get wiped out when I perform a sync. Even my own name has been randomly removed in past syncs.
So, let's assume that the following factors are true:
in iTunes (10.6.1), under Info, and Advanced - I do NOT have "Replace information on this iPhone" checked, it is completely empty.
I have not deleted any contacts on the computer in ANY program (Outlook, Address Book, etc.)
I am using the most current versions of the applications and OS (iOS 5.1.1, MacOS 10.7.3)
I have tried completely erasing and restoring my iPhone.
To others' comments, the iTunes "Sync" is not syncing at all - it is erasing, not overwriting from another data source.
Nothing I put into the iPhone gets "sync'd" up to the host Macbook Pro. Further, "synchronization" should imply a two-way synchronization, not one-way.
I have checked every preference in every application I can imagine with no success. Somewhere, there is an instruction during sync that is deleting some contacts and I cannot even figure out how it selects the ones to delete.

A little help please.

Dexter, I see your disgust and argh and raise you some humancenipad "fuel". Apple has lost it. This from an original Macintosh user, loyal all the way thru until recently. My address book and iphone are completely failed. I have done the 20-some step process of starting over, deleting deeply into the library folders, and it does not work. There is no rhyme nor reason to what it keeps and what it deletes. None of this stuff "works.": And the censor at apple (or the algorithm programmer) can kiss my gluteals for their lovely "terms and conditions."
Their stuff does not work if you have been using Apple a long time, through multiple devices and OS's, and you actually know how to use a computer. I guess I will be driving down to the shops for a paper address book.
Oh, to be back in the early aughties with my Now Contact and Now Up-to-Date, syncing through my whole world. And, I hope this doesn't get deleted in their totalitarian zombiedom and you actually see that someone who knew what you were talking about, Dexter, had the balls to reply on apple's "forum" with the truth.
