Is the Iphone 5 Activation at Store at Time of Pickup Optional?
I bought an Iphone 5 as an upgrade to an existing phone last night and chose the "in store pickup" option. I got an email stating it was ready and went to pick it up. All was well until the associate told me that the by completing the checkout process (ie scanning the barcodes on the side of the box) would instantly disable my existing phone! The problem was the existing phone was across town and my wife needed it for several more hours until she got home.
I asked to take the phone and activate it myself later and the associate indicated this was not possible. I left the store and now have to return this weekend when I have time, since the location is not close to my house/work. I am very annoyed about the wasted trip, but I will be livid if Apple retail locations force you to immediately activate. What about surprise gifts (which mine no longer is, since I have to organize the pickup around my wife's schedule)? I activated my mail-ordered Iphone 5 just fine at home. Why is there a difference?
Did I get bad information from the associate or did Apple make activation mandatory at retail locations?

Hmmm. I just ran GeekBench here in Sydney and it has identified my A1429 iPhone 5 as a CDMA version. Whatever, it is running fine on LTE on the Telstra network here.
Is this just a glitch in GeekBench or is Apple really using the Verizon A1429 version interchangeably with the GSM-only A1429 as the world-phone?

HT4623 Contacting the iPhone activation server display
I waited 10 hours for ios 7.02 to download. Then up comes,'Contacting the iPhone activation server' display....for 5 hours! What am I supposed to do? Do I disconnect from iTumes and carry on? Or stay connected and wait til it contacts the iPhone activation server?
Hi ingerjay,
If your iPhone is still displaying that message, I would consider that symptom to fall under this troubleshooting article:

Tip: Unable to Install or Update Apps Using the iPhone's App Store?
I had a problem today where I found myself unable to install updates, or install new or previously purchased apps using the App Store on the iPhone. However, I had no problem with the installation of apps when I plugged my iPhone into my computer, opened iTunes and dragged the app I wanted over to my iPhone. So, I did the usual: I tried a reboot, and, when that didn't work, I powered my phone off and waited a few minutes before turning it back on. Still no love with the updating or installation of apps using the App Store on my iPhone.
Here is what I did do to fix it:
I keep backups of my iPhone on my MBP and I back up my phone regularly. If you do not, you should start doing so. Anyway, I went ahead and plugged my phone into my computer and launched iTunes (I also update my MBP daily if necessary, so the most current version of iTunes was used).
Once my phone showed up in iTunes and I could select it, I right-clicked on the iPhone's name (I use a MBP, but I know Windows users might view this, too, so universal language is what I will use - for Mac users, right-clicking means using two finger tap on a touchpad or using the good 'ol Control-click) and selected "Back Up" from the menu.
Once the phone was backed up, I right-clicked again on the iPhone's name and selected "Restore from Backup...".
I made sure the value for "iPhone Name" was correct and that the "Last Backed Up" day and time values were correct and I clicked the "Restore" button and let the restore process finish completely (wait until your iPhone shows up in iTunes again before doing anything else with your phone).
Once the restore was complete, I was extra cautious and powered off then powered on my phone. Finally, I went ahead and plugged it back into my MBP and made sure that the phone showed up in iTunes.
Following all of that, I launched the App Store on my iPhone again, entered the password for my Apple ID and updating apps, installing new apps, and installing previously purchased apps from iCloud all worked again.
Please note that this process is much different than just simply clicking the "Restore" button on your iPhone's homepage in iTunes. That will prompt you to backup your phone, completely restore it to factory defaults, and, then require you to restore from backup to get all your settings and such back. This is not the route I took - I simply restored from an existing backup. I want to make sure that this point is clear. Although, if restoring from an existing backup does not solve the issue at first, then perhaps a restore to factory defaults followed up with a restore from a backup will do the trick, too. I just did not want to waste my time taking the much longer route first and was happy to find my iPhone's App Store working again by simply restoring my phone using an existing backup.
I have seen a lot of posts regarding this issue in the support communities, with none of them having an answer (even after calling Apple Support). I hope this helps anyone else that has had, is having or will have the same issue! Feel free to post comments regarding other solutions you have found for the same issue - let's have one discussion where all possible solutions can be posted so iPhone users do not have to sort through a bunch of unhelpful discussions just to find a solution that was not yet documented (like I had to).See:

The ODS activation is taking long time
Hi,
We are on SAP NetWeaver BI 701 (Support Package 5).
We create a Z ODS, it will contain a lot of data (180.000.000 month-end) and we want to generate specific reports about it.
The activation is taking long time, I assume is because we checked the flag "SIDs Generation upon Activation". I am confused about this check. I really need it? is this check the only problem.
Thanks for you help.
VictoriaHi Victoria:
If your Z DSO is used only for staging purposes (you don't have queries based on this DSO and you send the data to another DSO or to an InfoCube) then you don't need to check the "SIDs Generation Upon Activation" box.
Even more, to achieve better performance during data loads in this scenario, you might consider using a Write Optimized DSO instead of a Standard DSO, but if you decide to take this alternative don't forget to select the "Do Not check Uniqueness of Data" box if you need to write several records with the same Semantic Key.

I bourgh the iphone 4 in apple store UK. When I buy they said its already unlock. I came to my country and try to use diffrent SIM card but its saying 'No Services'. How can I unlock my phone Please? If anyone know UK tec support email ID please let me know????
ThanksThe ONLY source of unlocked iPhones in UK is Apple retail Stores ( Apple owned )
all others will be locked to a carrier (did you buy from carphonewarehouse )
Only the carrier who locked it can unlock the iPhone
Apple do NOT unlock iPhones
If you purchased from Apple (the Apple ) then contact the store

Could I cancel my ATT service within the 30 days and keep the iphone active
I am considering just using my iphone as a fancy ipod, wifi, etc and plus it's fun being part of the iphone community. What I don't want to do is shell out an additional $80+ a month for the next 2 years because I already have tmobile service on my BB that my company pays for and am in a 2 year with it. Would I run into problems if I do the FW updates etc where the phone will need to be activated again.
I know 600 is alot for just using it as an ipod but it still has many features over the ipod....I'll also bet that in a few months there will be a
video iPod with the same interface....
My bet would be September/October. Wide screen video iPod with touch screen/no click wheel, cover flow. Maybe speaker(s)/volume switches. Probably no WiFi. Contacts & calendars... ??? Maybe iPod games on the iPhone since they'll have the new interface figured out for the new iPod.
Is there a 6G iPod spculation thread in the iPod discussions? Or is it HOW MANY are there? -

HT4623 I have the iPhone 3 and I don't see an option for software update
I have the iPhone 3G and im trying to download instagram and twitter but it's not allowing me to do so because it says I need to update my software. Now when I go to settings then general settings to see if I can update the iPhone . It doesn't give me the option that there is a software update. So what can I do to update my phone
The iPhone 3G can't be upgraded beyond 4.2.1. The over the air update requires iOS 5 or higher, thus you won't see it.

How to get passed the iphone activation?
I just bough an iPhone 5c from ebay. The guy never used but he didnt activate it either. He gave me all his information but when i went to get it activated, they threw the origional sim away so now i cant get passed it without the old sim. What do i do?
Find someone with a valid usable sim for whatever carrier the device is on and activate it and then give the sim back. Or start service with that carrier.
Alternativley you could see if the carrier has "dummy" sims or sims that can be used to activate a device temporarily. -
I work at a company that buys electronics and resells them. I was wondering if there was a way to contact Apple to deactivate the activation lock.
Check out KB HT5661 - What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Your company probably need to setup some type of screening process where before you buy the Apple device, make sure the person turns off Activation Lock with Find My iPhone before you take ownership of the device.
Apple's FAQ article on Activation Lock KB HT5818 is stating they are not going to repair or service the phone if Activation Lock with Find My iPhone is not turned off. So I guess it's the owner's iPhone responsibility to turn it off before you sell, give it away, or want it repaired.
