Is the iPhone 5 lightning cable also covered under AppleCare?

My iPhone lightning cable is starting to fall apart.
I never take it anywhere. It just stays plugged in at home and all I use it for is connecting to my iPhone 5 for charging, etc. So it's definitely never been abused.
It came with my iPhone 5 which I got October of 2012, so the iPhone 5 itself is still under the 2 year AppleCare warranty. Do they cover the lightning cable too? I can't believe it has started to wear out like this just from daily plugging in.

Of course. AppleCare covers your iPhone and the accessories that came with it, including the Lightning cable. Just make an appointment at an Apple Store or reseller and take the iPhone and the cable to get it replaced for free.
Here in Japan it was even easier than that. I just had to call AppleCare and they will deliver one by express service, and pick up the old one. No need to make an appointment, or to actually go anywhere.

  • Questions about the iPhone 5 Lightning Cable?

Ok, so the new iPhone comes with a "Lightning" USB connecter thing. So, why do they sell Lightning to 30 pin adapter? What does this do? Can lightning charge on the newest MacBook Air with USB 3.0? Any idea how long it will take to charge through this? So, if it comes with Lightning to USB, that should charge the iPhone 5 with the USB power adapter it comes with right? I know this is a lot, but what I'm mainly confused with is what the Lightning to 30 pin does, and if the iPhone 5 will charge with the accessories that come with the iPhone when you buy it. Thanks!

The lightning to 30 pin adapter allows you to still use all the old sound docks, third party charges and so on with your new iphone 5.
I am happy that apple came out with the adapter. I just wish it wasn't so expensive. $29 for the adapter is a bit much. Especially since it does not support video out.

  • My iPhone got washed in the washing machine, will it be covered under AppleCare?

My iPhone accidentally got included in the wash and no longer works, can it be replaced under AppleCare?

    No.
Like any warranty on any product, damage is not covered.
    Sorry.
    You can do this:
    Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will service your iPhone for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.

  • If my iphone screen is cracked but it also has water damage will it be covered under applecare?

If my Iphone screen is cracked but it also has water damage will it be covered under applecare since i need the screen replaced?

Neither of those is covered by the standard one-year warranty.
If you purchased AppleCare+, you may be able to get it replaced for $79+ tax; otherwise, you will most likely be paying $269+ tax to replace the phone.

  • This Accessory is not made to work with the iPhone (apple headset cable)

Is it just me or are others seeing this whenever you plug in the iPhone headset USB cable to your iPhone ... not sure what gives here, but it's quite annoying. I have the cable plugged into a 23" ACD USB hub (not sure if this makes a difference or not).
Considering that this headset is made to work with ONLY the iPhone and that this is the only way to hook it up and charge it I'm a bit miffed about this. I was kind of let down the quality of the headset to start with (everyone says it sounds like I'm stuck down a well when talking to them) and to top it off this message appears every time I plug things in to charge them up.
Is this a new issue with the 2.2 firmware update, or is this a more wide spread issue? Having to tell it every time not to put my phone into airplane mode is quite annoying :/ Not sure why there would be such an issue with an Apple cable made specifically for this task plugged into an Apple monitor.

    Hi Allan
Thanks for the response. Connected directly to the front of my Mac Pro is didn't display that message. The funny thing is that when I moved it back to the ACD USB port I no longer got this message (for now, it's been hit and miss in the recent past as well).
Why it makes a difference on the ACD ports I don't know, according to the USB 2.0 spec there should be zero difference in connecting to a hub vs. directly to a port on the computer unless the hub is not up to spec and I have no issues using any other devices at all on the USB ports on my 2 ACD's. Smells like a bug to me. It's also hit and miss that the headset shows as charging or not on the iPhone. I just tested it with the Mac Pro front plug and had the same issue. It took 4 times unplugging and replugging until the iPhone knew it had a headset attached to it (which included a reboot of the iPhone to make sure the issue wasn't on that side). All the connectors are clean -- the headset and cable are < 1 week old. The iPhone I just took a good look and and for good measure even blew it out with some compressed air.
Either way around I'm still very unimpressed with the QA on this product. I don't think it will be around much longer. Hopefully others won't get sucked in and spend their hard earned $$ on this overpriced piece of hardware. I did read the reviews on the apple store but chose to ignore most of them (lots seemed like rants). I can now testify first hand that it doesn't seem to be all it's cracked up to be, especially on the sound quality front
I'll leave this thread open for a while longer as I want to see if anyone else is having this issue or if it's something specific with my setup (if it's specific to my setup I may just end up returning this headset and buying something else).
    Thanks again.

  • I want to sync my I phone user name (my current e-mail address) with my iPad, PC user name (old e-mail address.) If I delete that current address in the iPhone, won't I also be deleting it in my other devices? They are synced. I don't want to lose it

I want to sync my I phone user name (my current e-mail address) with my iPad, PC user name (old e-mail address.) If I delete that current address in the iPhone, won't I also be deleting it in my other devices? They are synced. I don't want to lose it. I just want to get it out of the way on my iphone so it doesn't confuse the transfer of ID names and then I want it back again..      I tried deleting the cloud account, being told the current e-mails would be spared. But all it did was pop up a prompt asking me for the password to my still current email ID. So I assume now that I have to go to mail and get rid of the e-mail account. But I'm scared I'll lose everything in my other devices too.

You can change the email address you use as your apple ID. this doesn't mean you have to delete the old email address as email.
When you delete an email from your device, it is only removed from the device, it does not delete your emails or the email account.

  • Is the iPhone 5S charger covered under Applecare?

Is the iPhone 5S charger covered under Applecare?

Under the warranty, yes.  Applecare, I don't know.

  • I have an iPhone 4s that is still covered under the AppleCare Protection Plan. I have a pretty significant crack across the screen and wanted to know if I have to pay any additional fees to replace the screen or replace the entire phone.

I have an iPhone 4s that is still covered under the AppleCare Protection Plan. I have a pretty significant crack across the screen and wanted to know if I have to pay any additional fees to replace the screen or replace the entire phone.
I was hesitant to purchase this protection plan at first about $70, but the customer service agent reassured me that there were no deductables and thats why I bought into it. But now that I look around on the support site, I see that it says that there are up to two incidents covered for a service fee of $49. Did I really get duped?

If the issue is a manufacturing defect, there is no cost to have the device replaced.
If the issue is a result of user damage (like a cracked screen) and you have AppleCare+ Apple will replace the device for the minimal fee of $49.  They will do this up to two times during the timeframe of the protection plan.
If the issue is the result of user damage and you do not have AppleCare+ then the Out of Warranty replacement cost is $199 for the 4S.
No, you were not duped, you were simply not completely informed.  Whether that was a result of them not sharing all the information or you only hearing what you wanted, no one here knows.

Basically only for the first year and only if Apple deems it defective. It is seen as a consumable item and not covered under Applecare.

  • "Service Battery"-service covered under AppleCare?

    I have a mid-2010 13" Macbook, covered under AppleCare until August 7th, 2013.
My battery has recently started acting strangely, or to be more specific it doesn't act as it did previously.
I thought my charger might be broken, and I replaced it, but the problems are still present.
    - The total charge my battery holds has been strongly reduced in a relatively short period of time.
    - The battery will NEVER become 100% charged. It stops at 98 or 99%.
    - The cycle count seems a little high considering I rarely use the macbook without being connected to a power source.

A year and a half ago I moved to China, and I have continued using my macbook as normal after the move. Could the change in battery performance have anything to do with the electric currents being different over here? My macbook was originally bought in Europe.
    I'm wondering:
    - Will my battery have to be replaced?
    - Will it damage my computer if I don't replace my battery?
    - Does AppleCare cover service/repair in this situation?
My closest Apple Store is in San Li Tun, Beijing.
    - Could I go there directly and inquire about service, or would I have to contact them online first/make an appointment?
    - How much would a new battery cost if my battery ends up needing replacement?
Thank you very much for reading!

Since you have Apple Care I would call and make an appointment for the Apple Techs to evaluate the battery. Your battery has less than the 1000 cycle life considered normal.

  • Is express return service covered under applecare?

Is express return service covered under Applecare for my 6+? Is there any fees for this service?

The standard $29 shipping fee for Express Replacement Service is waived if you have AppleCare.  However, you'll still be required to put a hold on a credit card for the full retail purchase price of your device, that remains until you return your original device to Apple.

  • Power brick covered under AppleCare?

I'm having some odd issues that seem to be the fault of my power brick (but who knows?). If I leave my PowerBook G4 1.67 Ghz machine plugged in for 10+ hours or so, the computer will stop recognizing that it has power. The light goes out from the ring where the cord plugs into my powerbook, and the battery slowly drains if the machine isn't asleep.
Unplugging and plugging back in the power cord doesn't work. The only thing that works is unplugging the power cord from my surge protector and plugging that back in. Or, removing the brick extension cord and reattaching it to the brick.
Has anyone had similar problems and/or know if the brick is covered under AppleCare?

the power unit is covered by the same warranty/applecare cover that applies to the device it came with
from your description imho it is more likely that the power unit is faulty than that a fault with the pb is causing it to shut down

  • Is liquid damage covered under applecare

Is liquid damage covered under applecare, if so do they try and repair the machine or do they just switch it out for a new one?  Macbook Air, mid 2012 still covered under applecare until 2016, but a bottle of water has killed it.

AppleCare doesn’t cover any sort of accidental damage.

  • Can I use my standard car charger i got for iphone 4 with iPhone 5? if I just plug in the usb to lightning cable or will it damage the new iphone?

The charger takes a usb cable, so I figure I could just plug in my usb to lightning cable and charge using my Saitek charger.  Does anyone know if this works?

Did you get this to work?  Mine did not work when I plugged it into my at&t iphone car charger usb port.
