Is the iPhone 5 model A1428 usable in India?

Hi,
My cousin in the us has gifted me a iPhone 5 model A1428. I'll be predominantly using it in India. It's supposed to be a company unlocked phone according to the product discription on Amazon. My question is would it be usable in India on a non AT&T carrier provided the gsm band width is 900 -1800 MHz? The phone came with a empty sim tray. The package also didn't have any literature to suggest that it's usable only on AT&T network. The phone is still with my cousin in the US but em need to decide whether he gets it to India in the later weeks of December. If it's not going to be usable here, it's of no point him getting it here.
cheers,
Gautam

Hmmm. I just ran GeekBench here in Sydney and it has identified my A1429 iPhone 5 as a CDMA version. Whatever, it is running fine on LTE on the Telstra network here.
Is this just a glitch in GeekBench or is Apple really using the Verizon A1429 version interchangeably with the GSM-only A1429 as the world-phone?

  • Hi ... I would like to ask you about the difference between Iphone 5 model A1428 and A1429, as one of my friend told me some of resellers they have A1428 and others have A1429. Now is that true or not, if your answer Yes what it is the difference?

Hi ... Please I would like to ask you about the difference between Iphone 5 model A1428 and A1429, as one of my friend told me some of resellers they have A1428 and others have A1429. Now is that true or not, if your answer Yes what it is the difference?

The difference is clearly stated on the technical specifications page for the iPhone, something you are just as capable of looking at as anyone else here.

  • How to pick the iPhone 5 model (CDMA, GSM, ETC...) when buying it unlocked online?

    Hello,
I want to buy an unlocked iPhone 5 to be used with Virgin Mobile Canada. VMC uses CDMA network, and as some of you may know, iPhone 5 has 3 different models:
    GSM model A1428*: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 4 and 17)
    CDMA model A1429*: CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900, 2100 MHz); UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 13, 25)
    GSM model A1429*: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5)
So the first one, Model A1428 would not work with VMC i guess, right?
That leaves me with the other 2 models. The second one works with CDMA and GSM and LTE, so If i get this model, it should work on CDMA networks (Virgin Mobile) and GSM too (eg. Rogers), right? And LTE would work on both networks, right? (also whats the difference between the LTE bands? like what does it mean?)
So Virgin Mobile itself supplies customers with the A1429 model right (and so does Bell)? While Rogers supplied the A1428 one, right?
Finally, how do i PICK which model to buy? I mean when i go on apple.ca and "Buy iPhone", it doesnt ask to pick a model, so how do i specify which one to buy?
Thank you all (btw, please dont pay attention to my weird username as I once used this forum before and entered the topic in the username field, and it doesnt really give an option to change it in my profile, haha)
    Thanks again!

But i actually asked them, and they said that its fine to bring my own iPhone. I'm looking into a prepaid plan (that come with some data), so it shouldnt make a difference, because theyre gonna activate the sim card and ill go from there with top ups (so basically they wont even know what phone i'm using).
So anyway i asked them, and they said its ok. but i then thought of the whole cdma thing

  • Is the iPhone 4 model MC319LL unlockable?

Hi. Is the iPhone 4 model MC319LL unlockable?

AT&T will only unlock it if you have completed a contract with them. Call them (411, I think?) and ask. Yes, they will ask for your IMEI.

  • I want to buy an iphone 5s (GSM, SIM-Free). While I travelling to India, can I use the iphone with a local-SIM in INDIA.

I want to buy an iphone 5s (GSM, SIM-Free).
While I travelling to India, can I use the iphone with a local-SIM in INDIA.

I am looking into buying an iphone 5s (GSM, SIM-Free) from apple store in US.
While in India, I am looking to use it with a local-SIM (Local carrier) in INDIA (Eg: Airtel, Vodaphone etc). Will it work ?
While browsing iphone products in the Apple store, I did not find any iphone referring to "Unlocked" but ended up with SIM-free as the only option (http://store.apple.com/us/buy-iphone/iphone5s/64gb-gold-unlocked?aid=www-k2-ipho ne%205s%20-%20index-n@p&cp=k2-iphone%205…).
I also found the following information from the apple store - When you travel internationally, you can use a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5s from a local GSM carrier. The unlocked iPhone 5s model is A1533 (GSM).
If Apple is the only source of unlocked iphones, could someone provide the link to the store.

  • Is the Iphone 5 model A1429 (CDMA) and model A1429 (GSM) the same phone?

Apple is inconsistent on their information for the iphone 5. One the LTE info site (http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/) it lists three different models, specifically showing that there is both a GSM and CDMA version of Model A1429.
However, on the iphone 5 shopping FAQs (http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone) it specifically says:
Can I use an iPhone when traveling internationally?
iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S are both world phones, so you can use them almost anywhere. Whether you are a GSM or CDMA network customer, you can roam on GSM networks in 200 countries around the world. iPhone 4 for AT&T can also roam on other GSM networks around the world. iPhone 4 for Sprint will work in approximately 40 countries and iPhone 4 for Verizon Wireless will work in approximately 45 countries that use CDMA technology. Availability of LTE data on iPhone 5 varies in some countries and depends on carrier support for certain LTE radio frequencies. Contact your wireless carrier for more information regarding international roaming policies and rates.
As you can read in the bolded type above, the CDMA version of the phone will be capable of using GSM networks. Does this mean, for example, that an iphone purchased in Australia (LTE band 3 with Telstra) will be usable in the US (Sprint and Verizon LTE bands).
What I'm most interested in is using LTE in the US on an Australia purchased phone.

    iphone 5s A1457 gsm specs:
    Model A1457*: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bandas 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20)

  • When the iPhone 5 will be available in India

When iphone5 will be available in India

    Hi,
iPhone has come to Croatia as You know it but there are limited so it would be good to reserve the iPhone which You wish to buy because i had this kind of problem:
-I have reserved my iPhone 5 64GB as soon as the T-mobile let the commercials for that and i had to wait for a month almost to get my iPhone-and almost lost it because the carrier calls you just one time and if you don't pick up your phone, they will sell it to anyone who come into store! So, if they call you that your iPhone has comed-hurry as much as you can!

  • What is the iphone 5 model that I need?

I want to buy an iphone 5 in Switzerland, will it work in israel? If not what model will work in israel?

Perhaps you live in Israel, but according to a quick Google search, Israel is rapidly going GSM.  So, I do not believe 99% is CDMA.
To the OP.  Read this link.  Two of the 3 major carriers in Israel are GSM.

  • I want to buy the iphone model A1533

I want to buy the iPhone 5s model is A1533 (GSM) will it work in the Czech Republic? I have T-mobile here but want to also use it in the states when I return, not with t-mobile.
    Chuck

Assuming you want to use a local carrier's sim in the  Czech Rep
It should work on 3G but not 4G in Europe as long as you follow ethmoid's advice and buy only from Apple
When you return to the US then you just have a US model iPhone with no carrier lock

  • Does the iPhone 4 have less memory?

I just switched from the 3G-s to the 4, but the new iPhone 4 will not allow me to put as much music and photos as I had on the 3G-s. Does the iPhone 4 have less usable memory? It seems to have about a gigabyte less? Thank you for your advice.

Thanks. I made that assumption, and when I checked further, the difference is about a third of gig. So I did a comparison to what was on the the 3G-s and there are 2303 songs that take up 11.6GB of space. The same number of songs take up 12.6Gb of space on the iphone 4. The photos, however are a big difference, the same photos on the 3G-s take up .97Gb, and on the iPhone 4, 7.9Gbs for the same photos. Why the differences in how much space it taken up? Anyone know?

  • Squirrelmail and the iPhone

There are certain instances when I want to use webmail and my iPhone. It there any theme or plugin or something to make Squirrelmail look and behave better on the iPhone?
It's usable but it ain't pretty.

Unfortunately, Squirrelmail is not "skinnable" (yet). Thus, you can only change color combinations, but nothing else (Unless you modify the source files).
You may want to have a look at Nutsmail. Still SquirrelMail, but much better looking. The basically modify the source to add graphics and sell it for a small fee.
