Is The iPod Touch Backward Compatible With USB 1.1 Connections?

Hi. I intend to get the iPod Touch soon. But, before I make the leap, I'd like to know whether the iPod Touch is backward compatible with my older USB 1.1 connections. Any help will be appreciated here. Thank you.

Hello Castlegard,
As mentioned, the Minimum System Requirements for the iPod Touch does specify USB 2.0, see the requirements here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1323
While it is theoretically possible to sync over a USB 1.1 connection, your mileage may vary. Consider that USB 1.1 has a transfer rate of 12Mbit/sec, where USB 2.0 is 480Mbit/sec, so USB 2.0 is basically 40x faster. Transferring small files may succeed, but when you try to get iTunes to update or restore an iPod Touch, it will be trying to push a 300MB file (approximately) through a 12Mbit pipe. Trying to do updates or restore via USB 1.1 will often result in iTunes timing out before the process is complete.
If I were to try to sync a 1.5GB movie over a USB 1.1 connection, I could probably go to downtown Sydney and have a nice dinner and attend a concert at the Sydney Opera House and still get back before the sync was complete. BTW, I live in California...
If your computer is a desktop tower, upgrading to USB 2.0 is a relatively inexpensive proposition. If you are not a handy person with a phillips screwdriver or electical devices, most computer dealers or resellers will install for a nominal fee.

Hi IIIaass. If you have problem with older routers, Apple recommends you update the router firmware.

  • My computer no longer recognizes my iPod Touch. And the iPod Touch does not recognize that it is connected to a computer.

My computer no longer recognizes my iPod Touch. And the iPod Touch does not recognize that it is connected to a computer.  It has worked great for many days until today.
I’ve tried two different Apple cables.
I’ve tried different USB ports on the computer.
I have rebooted both the Mac and the iPod.
I’ve wiggled the cables and checked for dust in the connectors.
The iPod charges using this same cable connected to wall wart.  That’s a good sign.
Both the Mac and iPod seem to work fine separate from each other.  They just won’t talk anymore.

    OS 10.4.11
    iTunes 9.2.1
    iPod Touch 32GB, version 3.1.3 (7E18), model PB533LL

I found this possible solution on another support thread, so I tried it.
    turn off iPod
hold Sleep and Home buttons to start it.
When Apple appears, let go of Sleep button, but keep holding Home button.
When screen goes blank, let go of Home button.
Connect cable and check iTunes to see if it has conencted.
This did not work for me.
I then turned off the iPod, restarted the Mac, and restarted the iPod normally.
I connected them with the cable, and it works like normal.  :-)

  • Does the Ipod Touch 5th generation support AVRCP for bluetooth connectivity.

Do the Ipod Touch 5th generation support AVRCP for bluetooth connectivity.
I would like to know if it supports the volume control, call answering function and next/back song panel in a bluetooth headphone. (AVRCP bluetooth)
Does it support headphones with microphone? (for Face Time, TinyChat or recording)
Does it support this device on bluetooth with the Ipod Touch 5th Gen?

Though this wasn't updated (not having the Ipod Touch 5) but seeing the Ipod Touch 4 having both AVRCP and A2DP, Ipod Touch 5 should also have those...
Thank you so much... Have a wonderful day

  • When will USB 3.0 be truly backwards compatible with USB 2.0 audio interfaces?

    hello
I own a U46DJ mkII audio interface.  I use the interface for music production, particularly recording vocals.
The device performs well on my windows laptop, I can record clean vocals with no artifacts. On the macbook pro however, the incoming audio signal is full of digital pops and clicks.
After spending a few days searching for solutions on google I narrowed it down to the USB 3.0 ports on the new macbook pro.
Lots of people with with all different brands of audio interface are experiencing problems while connecting them to USB 3.0 ports.
Here is an article on the topic: http://createdigitalmusic.com/2012/06/usb-3-0-backwards-compatible-in-theory-but -some-audio-drivers-arent-cooperating/
So, when will USB 3 be truly backwards compatible with our USB 2 devices?

    Tuesday. That's what I heard.
Perhaps the driver is the problem. Check with the interface manufacturer.
I have a Focusrite USB interface that sounds great but Pro Tools and Logic kept crashing when I used it.  I went back and forth with Focusrite, they had several beta drivers which they sent me, none of which fixed the problem. Turns out the interface works better without the driver from the manufacturer.
I find it hard to blame Apple for this. It's not like they didn't have the ML beta out for a long time for all the device manufacturers to test their drivers and their hardware with. Apple can't keep tabs on every third party developer on the planet and design their software and hardware to keep all of them happy.

  • How do I get the ipod touch to sync with the itune?

I have tried to sync my ipod touch with the itune, however when I plug into the computer, the itune doesn't detect the ipod touch eventhough the computer already detected the ipod touch. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the itune programme and restarting my ipod touch, however it seems like it is not really workin at all. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem. It will be really appreciated.

your problem sounded very similar to what i had and i looked around the apple website for some help. this helped me fix my problem http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538 .... hope it helps you, i don't know whats causing it yet

  • Why can't I get the iPod Touch in color with 16 GB?

Hi! Happy Thanksgiving. So I really want to get the iPod touch 5th Generation for christmas/birthday (they're pretty close to eachother) however the one I want, which is the pink one, is about 70 $ more than the black one. After searching around for a little bit, I discovered that it's because the colored iPods have 32 GB as the lowest option, while the back one has 16 GB as the lowest. I would be perfectly happy with 16 GB considering the price reduction, but I really only want it in the color. So, why IS it that the colors don't come in a lower option on GB? Thanks!
PS. If anyone finds any great Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals on the iPod Touch 5th Generation (colors) please leave an answer for that also! Thanks so much! x

    Bella.B wrote:
So basically... Apple just made that weird random rule..?
It is not a rule.  it is the decision that they made when producing the product.
They simply chose not to make the 16GB in other colors.

  • Is the new Ipod Touch 5g compatible with all of the ios 6 features and is the new Ipod have the exact same design as the Iphone 5 for example square sides, instead of curving sides?

Does the new Ipod have the same features as the Iphone 5 in terms of panorama, or like the new Isight camera? Like the same features/ design?

it is compatible with most iOS 6 things, the main difference is just the fact that it doesn't have 3G or 4G, which limits how much it can use Siri or Maps.
it does have panorama, and a 5 MP iSight camera. the design is different. it is a lot thinner, it has curved edges, and at no part of the side is it flat, same for the top and bottom. that is NOT the case for iPhone. also the iPod doesn't have a mic. on the front.
    hope this answered your question.
just remember this for iOS 6: pretty much everything that doesn't always require internet the iPod can do. if it is something liketurn by turn direction, unless you have wi-fi in car, it wont work.
if you need siri for anything outside of wifi, unless it's something on the hard drive itslef, i.e. setting up reminders, it wont work for thing such as facebook posts, looking for restaurants, etc.

    Hi.
I know this was posted some time ago... But I thought I would add the page where Creative tells us which micro sdhc cards (and card class) they would like us to use:
