  • Is there an adapter out there that will convert a thunderbolt port on my Macbook Air to my HP L2245wg monitor?

I am considering buying a new MacBook Air but I also want to sync it with my HP L2245wg monitor and I am wondering if there is a solution out there that will do that for me without having to buy a new Mac Monitor with a Thunderbolt port. Here is the link for the monitor's tech specs (http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13125_na/13125_na.PDF).  It has VGA and DVI-D Connectors, so I need an adapter that will convert thunderbolt to that or usb.   If anyone can help me out on this I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you so much!

For purposes of just hooking up a monitor, the Thunderbolt port will look like a Mini-DisplayPort, and the converters for that to VGA or DVI will work just fine.
The DVI adapter Apple sells is on their online store at:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A
As well, Apple Stores and any other vendor that sells the MacBook Air would also have those connectors in stock.  The VGA adapter is the same price--just converts out to VGA.
Note the connector merely adds the equivalent of a DVI or VGA port, so you'll still need a cable.  However, most monitors come with at least one of the cables (DVI or VGA) if not both.

  • Which port on my MacBook Air ?

Hi everyone, i wanted to know what kind of port i have on my 2008 MacBook Air to plug it to my TV.
    Thanks for your answer.
    Theo

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
A Late 2008 MacBook Air includes Mini DisplayPort, which can be used to connect the MacBook to a TV. You just need to look for an adapter to connect to the MacBook and a cable to connect the adapter to the TV.
The most common ports on a TV are VGA, DVI and HDMI. I recommend you to go for HDMI if your TV supports this connection. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • How to I connect my old serial port monitor to macbook air?

    I have a samsung monitor...has two ports...serial and DVI?
    thanks.

Use a DVI adaptor for the type of display port the MacBook Air has. If it has a Thunderbolt port, use a Mini DisplayPort adapter.

  • I moved all my Pages documents from my Macbook Pro to my present Macbook Air and then gave away my Pro.  Now, when I try to view my documents I get the message that the document is too old and I have to save it on Pages 09 first.  How do I do that? i

I moved all my Pages docs from my Macbook Pro to my new Macbook Air.  Now, when I try to view my docs I am told that they are too old and I must save them in 09 first.  How do I do that?  The version of Pages I am using on the Air is 5.2.2

No release of Pages v5 can open AppleWorks, Pages '05, Pages '06, Pages '08, or RTF documents. Sometimes, it cannot open its own documents.
You will need to do one of the following:
Borrow your MacBook Pro back until you can export all your incompatible documents to MS Word (Which Pages v5 can open)
Install your iWork '08 DVD on your new Air, and then immediately apply the following Apple Updaters. Again Export to MS document formats.
    Pages v3.0.3
    Numbers v1.0.3
    Keynote v4.0.4
Purchase iWork '09 DVD, and then immediately update with Apple iWork 9.3 updater.
Open the document(s) that Pages v5 won't permit
Save as Pages '09 v4.3 documents, or export as MS Word
Upload to Zamzar, and convert to MS Word (free for limited volume)
    No sensitive documents
Email notification within 3 - 4 minutes with MS Word document download link
After you do either item 2 or 3, run Disk Utility and verify/repair application permissions on your boot drive. Open your converted documents in Pages v5.

  • Should I return my MacBook Air to upgrade to a MacBoook Pro?

I recently bought a MacBook Air with 4 GB of ram, 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB for $850. However, I today found a refurbished MacBook Pro for sale with 8 GB of ram, 2.6 GHz intel Core i5 processor, and intel iris graphics for $1099. Should I return my MBA and buy the MBP for the $250 more? Is the faster RAM, processing speeds, and graphics worth $250? I often play league of legends but other than that I only use my laptop lightly, Microsoft and some web browsing.

If the MBP has the Retina display, then it is definitely worth it. The 13" MBP is not that much bigger than the Air. And the 4GB RAM in the Air will not be enough if you plan on keeping it for 3-4 years.
I too wanted the Air because of form factor but I settled on the 13" MBP. The Retina display and the 8GB of RAM make a pretty noticeable difference.

  • Can I use a memory stick to back up my MacBook Air and what size do I need?

    i Have a MacBook air , processor 1.3 Ghz Intel core i5, 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory. Operating on OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.1.
it will not open up Safari, it crashed out of Safari with an error message and will not ooen it up now however many times I try.  I was reading Daily Mail on line at the time.  I can get onto the Internet by using Chrome but it feels as if Chrome is in charge of me rather than the other way round.  when I type in an address it just takes me where it wants to go rather than the website I want to to.  I now want to back up my data but left my drive in UK (I am in USA at the moment.) so wondered if I can back all my data (very important data) on to a memory stick so I can wipe my computer and start again.  I have an appointment with a techie at the Apple shop on Saturday but need to back up my data before the appointment, so not sure what to do.
ALso my IPad is very unstable after using the Daily Mail site, it has always seemed to be fine before but this weekend seems to have created problems for both my MacBook Air and IPad Mini...

You'd probably be better served to use a conventional external USB:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/
Easier to use, harder to lose and more dependable.
    http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1772735/usb-flash-drives-reliable-externa l-hdds.html
"generally speaking, a HDD (or SSD) is always going to be more reliable than a flash drive. USB flash drives are made to TRANSFER files, not to store them. Still, you get what you pay for, and I have had a few flash drives that have lasted a very long time"

  • Can see files on Mac Mini from Macbook Aire on same network

I can see the MacMini in the side bar from the Air but when I click through i can only see the public folders.  I have File Sharing checked in the System Preferences so I dont understand why i cannot see the files on the mini.  I can only see the drop box in the public folders and it wont even allow me to access that even if i wanted to.
Is there something else other than check file sharing in system preferences that I need to do
Also, I have an external drive attached to the MacMini which is not visible from the Macbook Air, not sure if that is the same problem
Thanks for any advice you can offer
    Andrew

Note that there's a difference between sharing and syncing.
Sharing will allow you to access the files on your Mini from your MBP, but the files won't be on your MBP when you take it somewhere else.
Syncing is making both Macs have identical copies of files, so that a change on one Mac makes a change on the other Mac.
If you've got a large LightRoom catalogue and limited space on your MBP, then you want sharing. The link above should get you started with that.
For syncing, I recommend BitTorrent Sync, which is free. It's basically "DropBox without the cloud". You select a folder to sync, and then whenever your two Macs are on the same network, any file in that folder that changes is synced to the other Mac.
I use it to keep my entire Documents folder synced between my Mini and MBP.
    http://www.bittorrent.com/sync
You may need to be careful about modifying the same document on both computers at the same time, though I believe BS does handle this in some way. Also, if you're syncing an app's data library, then some database files (e.g. with computer-specific data like file path names) may not sync well.
Of course, you could use DropBox, though you'll need to subscribe if you want more than a couple of GB.

  • MacBook Air vs. HP Office Jet Pro 8600

My computer and printer originally paired together and printed fine, but a week later the printer was not being responsive to my MacBook Air. I uninstalled all the drivers and software and redownloaded and installed them off of HP's website. The printer is nowhere to be found over the wireless network and will not pop-up in the HP device manager or Apples. I have restarted all modems, computers, printer, ect. When I enter the IP address manually it responds that the printer is not responsive. I need my printer, so please help! Thanks.

    Hello mockavelli,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see you are currently unable to print from your Mac computer using the Officejet pro 8600. Uninstalling / installing, resetting the modem, etc are all great steps to resolve this issue.
Have you tried Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates?
Try Pinging the I.P address of the printer; click into Spotlight (magnifying glass in upper right corner), type Network Utility and open it, click the Ping tab, enter the printer I.P address. If it sends and receives all the information both printer and Mac are on the network.
If it fails, restore the network defaults on the printer and connect it back to the network; Touch (on the printer display) right arrow> Setup, and then touch Network. Touch Restore Network Defaults, and then select Yes. A message appears stating that the network defaults have been restored. Go back to Network> Wireless> Wireless Setup Wizard then follow the steps to connect to network and attempt Ping again.
Let me know if the printer is able to have been installed.

  • Cisco Anytime Connect VPN working from iMac but not from MacBook Air with same settings and wifi network

    Hi guys,
I'm having trouble connecting my new MacBook Air to Cisco Anytime Connect VPN.
The same configuration works with my iMac, in the same network and same Mac OS Mountain Lion on both computers.
After successfully connecting to VPN after a few seconds it gets disconnected and, what is worse, WIFI is not working any more in my macBook Air, I need to deactivate it and start again.
With iMac with the same settings it doesn't happen.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Did you power cycle the network? That's always the first thing you want to do if a device is "missing" or not connecting to your network correctly.
If you have not already tried this a few times, power down the entire network...all devices, order is not important.
Wait a few minutes and place the MBAir close to the TC
Start the modem first and let it run a few moments by itself. Then start the TC if it is the device connected to the modem and let it run a few moments. Then start each device one at a time the same way.
