Is the mac 10.4.11 very obsolete?
i would like to know if it is necesary to update my mac 10.4.11 (tiger) to leopard.

Nothing is ever obsolete if it continues to do the job you need it to do. In my opinion, if people are still using 10-year-old Windows XP, then 6-year old Tiger is far from obsolete, especially if you have the 10.4.11 update from 2007 installed (http://support.apple.com/downloads/#10.4.11), which makes it only 4 years old.
Safari 4.1.3 (Download), Firefox 3.6.24 (Download) and TenFourFox (Download) are currently three of the the most up-to-date and most-used browsers available for 10.4, with the latter two still being updated as of November 2011. All three of these browsers were released within the last year and are quite capable, so the internet will continue to work on 10.4 systems (at least for now).
However, Adobe Flash 10 (http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp_10.1.102. 64_and_9.0.289.0_archive.zip) is the last version that will ever run on Tiger, Leopard, and PowerPC (PPC) Macs in general. Looking at how many websites rely on Flash to deliver content, I think that when Flash 10 becomes deprecated (as 8 has and 9 has for the most part--can't use either on YouTube), it will be a key turning point for these operating systems, at least if you intend on using them online.

Upgrade for the Mac Pro imminent?
I want to buy an 8 core 3Ghz Mac Pro, to replace my trusty (but creaky) G4. I was about to order one, but then I came across loads of rumours flying about the web that Apple is about to release some upgrades to the Mac Pro line, apparently "any day now". Does anyone have any firm info? Am I better off waiting a while before I buy, just in case? And how long is "a while" likely to be, anyway?
So Hatter, if I may ask, what would be your advice? I need to get a new computer pronto: my G4 is getting a little long in the tooth, and I fear it's not long for this world. The Mac Pro's look very attractive, even at their current configuration, and I can afford the top model. Although everyone agrees an update to the range is inevitable, no-one agrees on when it is likely to be. I don't think I can wait a year, not even six months, on the other hand, I'd be foolish to buy one this week if an update comes out next week. Seeing as the top model Mac Pro only came out in April, maybe this will actually be the last to be updated, meaning if I get one now I wouldn't be losing out? If, as you suggest, the big rollout won't be for another year, I might as well get one now...

Has anyone had difficulty with music server software on the mac mini
Hello all. I'm using my newly purchased mac mini as a music server and for movies integrated into my sound system. I have 2 handmade tube amps hooked up to a CJ tube pre-amp, running a Neko audio DAC mkII via a silflex mini toslink cable made by lifatec, from the optical out jack of the mac. I'm using audirvana plus software, which allows me to play uncompressed music files directly into my external dac bypassing the internal dac of the mac. CDs sound very good, the mac runs very quietly, and the optical connection seems very clean. HD tracks sound exquisite.
Took me a while to figure out how to set the systems preferences, but after a few days of trial and error I finally got it right. The low jitter of the optical out is a reality. Audiophile quality is now easy and cost efficient with the mac mini.Well, I do understand that.
However, I've installed iMS 5.2 on win2k several times (I admit, w2k pro, not server), and i've never installed AD.
If you can get it installed and working for your default domain, but not for other domains, then most likely it has nothign to do with AD or AD domains. iMS idea of domains is very different from AD's idea of domains. We need to be very clear about such.
for iMS, you have to create additional domains through Delegated Admin, as either "Hosted Domains" or as "Vanity Domains". We do not suggest using "Vanity Domains", and support for such is deprecated.
Once you have created "Hosted Domains" through Delegated Admin, you can add users to those domains, and they should work, just fine. -
hi, have a iphone/macbook itunes prob. i connected my phone to mac to add songs, and it wiped 99% of music from my phone. on the mac it still lists the songs on my phone but they are greyed out. can anyone help? very frustrated and want my music back.
I am having the same problem. I have just tried this. Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.

I am trying to download a variety of files and when it is finished, the Mac freezes up and the task bar continue to blink on and off.
I have to go into Firefox and actually quit the application to continue. Any help is very much appreciated.are you backing up files, or doing a Time machine backup, either way, the Time machine will STOP when finished and show "last backup at XXXXXX" meaning its done...... OR if when transferring files, it will show a progress bar on your desktop and vanish when files are copied.
Open up the Hitachi drive (your G drive is made by Hitachi, and the best made by the way).....and see if the files are there.
a MORE VISUAL way is to open the hard drive file, and drag and drop files INTO the Gdrive and you can see them visually be copied there as you do it.
To see your HD on your desktop GOTO FINDER......PREFERENCES....then GENERAL TAB.........check the box marked HARD DRIVES.........then your Gdrive will appear on your desktop........open it from there, and DRAG and drop files from anywhere INTO the Gdrive....... easy visual way to see the files being copied into the Gdrive. -
Please, the battery of my mac air does not last more than two hours, it's been over 30 days I sent for technical assistance and nothing! I am very disappointed with the mac air, I had a very different expectation of apples products!!!

Try these:
Make sure bluetooth is turned off if you're not using it.
Set your screen brightness to 4 bars.
See what's loading in your login items. Delete the ones you don't need.
Open Activity Monitor - under All Processes see what's using most of your CPU's resources.
Highlight the ones with the highest %CPU and hit quit process.
Remember that when Apple says that your battery should last 7 hours, they tested it just browsing the web and not have anything open in the background and screen is set at 50% brightness. -

I've never used a Mac before, recently i purchased a MBP13" which came loaded with LION OS by default. I upgraded the OS to OS10.7.2 when prompted. Now after the upgrade, my MBP feels very slow - specially when typing emails !! What is the solution ??
After an update or installation, your MBP may take some time to index its files. Give it some time - but if you don't see any improvement, post here - you'll get an answer!

Link aggregated between NAS and a switch: the Mac as a very slow access...

in my Office we're working with Macs and PCs and all the data is on a NAS.
Here is our configuration:
NAS <-link1->Switch<-Link2->Macs or PC.
Macs are connected with AFP protocol (because SMB is very slow).
We want to use Link Aggregation between the NAS and the switch (with 802.3ad procotol) but when we do that all the Macs have a very slow access to the NAS. But all is OK with the PCs.
What can we do? Is there a problem with macOS X and link aggregation?

You must have an Xserve, or Ethernet cards capable of Jumbo Frames for one, I assume the Switch & NAS are capable?

I run a Mac Mini 10.6.1 and a G5 10.4.11 - they share a screen. Yesterday the contrast on the Mac Mini went mad. Very very heavy contrast and now its impossible to retouch with Photoshop as I cannot judge the colours accuratly. The G5 is fine. I keep the screen image I get on the G5 good and accurate with Huey. I believe I cannot use this with the "Intel Inside" Mac Mini. Does anyone know how I can restore the great screen image I got up to yesterday on my Mac Mini? Thanks. John Suffolk England.
Likely caused by one of the following: a bad cable, maybe a bad connection or (my guess) bad graphics hardware.
To rule out the software, see if booting from an installer DVD shows better color.
Swap the cables and check the connections.
Then call your hardware support provider. -

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
Take these steps when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting. -

The touch pad on my Mac book Pro is very sensitive and causes changes without hardly touching it. Can this be changed or does it need replacement?
Touchpads are just that, touchpads.
You touch it and something happens unfortunately, you can't rest your fingers on it while your waiting to do something else or it triggers a response.
You either have to train yourself to remove your fingers and keep them suspended, causing wrist, arm and hand pain, or plug in a standard mouse where nothing happens until you press the button, like years of ergonomic experience has shown is a much superior method.
Touchpads are likely less expensive to produce and breakdown less often under warranty, so just like less expensive to produce glossy screens, it's a cost cutting measure they were incorporated into our devices and required users to adapt to sweeps, gestures and other useless actions for little benefit.
I've owned my Early 2011 MacBook Pro for a year now and have only used the trackpad once, the mushy keyboard perhaps only a couple of dozen times. Preferring external devices where I can rest my digits and nothing happens until I apply pressure or use a scroll wheel.
Needless to say my keyboard area is in brand new condiiton, remains covered from the original packaging, protects against dirt and spills too.
Mac's keyboard and trackpad area tend to wear out pretty fast, like in about 3 years, making one consider getting a new machine long before it physically fails. -
I have a belkin 7 adapter for additional usb ports for my mac pro. It worked fine without problems till recently when the message regarding usb port drawing too much power and the computer shuts the port on the mac pro down. The strip comes with its own power supply adapter. The attachments are additional hard drives used as backups and independent data. Other than disconnecting it are there any fixes?
You're getting the message because you're exceeding the available current, probably as a result of bus-powered drives. The power sources for hubs are rather small. Try using drives with their own power supplies.
