Is the MacApp Store out of business?

Need to buy OSX Lion, but the MacApp Store is not opening, how can I get it to open properly. I have an Imac with processor 3.06 Intel Core 2 Duo an OS 10.6.8.

Mr Eckert, I do not get an error message, but the App Store icon is not connecting, instead it keeps a message that it is loading I tunes and sometimes I get the message that the store is temporarily unavailable. Thanks for any advise.

How many CPUs are supported buying software via MacApp Store?

I am not sure how many CPUs are supported when I buy a software via MacApp Store. Who makes the rule?
The MacApp Store or the developer/software company?
i.e. when it comes out I like to buy Final Cut Pro X but I have no clue on how many computers I can use it.

A notable thing of the Mac App Store is that it is built on trust, there seems to be no check on how many machines you have installed an app, so they trust you to install it only on your computers.
True. And the license says computers that you own or control, so one can also use the apps on a Mac that was issued for use from an employer or educational institution, but that one may not actually own.
What is with the paraquas? It has not rained here in months!

GarageBand will not update via MacApp Store (running OS X Mountain Lion)

Hi I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro 2012 (Ivy Bridge) and I was using GarageBand and was trying to get extra instruments and GarageBand said I could either
a) "Download now" or b) "download later"
and the 1st option I click it claims that it is currently downloading but I waited and waited and even restarted GarageBand an hour later and none of the instruments showed up. And the I also tried "download later" and that option stated that I would get a notification in the MacApp Store to update when I opened it and it nothing showed up. What must I do to update, I really like GarageBand and I'm using it to make a little bit of music but I'd like to know what I must do in order to get the other instruments on there.

However, when I delete the GB app and the folder in the application support and try to install GB 6.0.5 Update it displays a message "Garageband 6.0 or later is required to install this update".
If your GarageBand came preinstalled or you bought it from the AppStore, you have to sign into the AppSTore with the Apple ID you used to accept or purchase GarageBand, Then download and reinstall from the "Purchased" tab of the AppStore. You cannot use the updater from the support page.

MacApp Store intermittently showing message no internet connection

I am experiencing an issue with the MacApp store displaying an error message "An Internet Connection is Required"
This is only happening after I have loaded the store and are switching between, 'Featured' and other tabs.
For example, If I move to 'Update' updates are searched for, then if I tap 'Featured' I get the error message
This has been happening for some time and I think it could be todo with the Mac Software update?

If you have Little Snitch, or an anti-virus util, turn that crap off.
Also, do you have the secure web proxy on? Turn it off too.
system preferences / Network / Advanced / Proxies / and turned off secure web proxy.

This is with regards to the App Store. Go to search and execute it. With a broader question you can get in the hundreds of products.
Now go through them one at a time as this is the only way to view.
Interested in an item half way down the list. You look at details.
It is not of interest. Go back to the search. Guess what you are thrown back into the beginning.
Now if this does not turn you off do not know what will.
Why are the developers of software not screaming. What about the users.
This has been going on since the introduction of system 6.
How long can this type of incompetence continue.
Has upper management short sold shares so that they can make a bundle when the shares tumble.

Error - Could not complete the music store request, the store may be busy .

I get the error "Could not complete the music store request, the store may be busy, check your internet connection or try again later." I have uninstalled and reinstalled,Tried on and off with the firewall, tossed the prefs, tried older and latest versions. It used to work but it hasn't worked in the last few days.

I found the problem to the iTunes Music Store connectivity. When iTunes version 6 is installed, it places a configuration / preferences file in the following location:
"C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref"
This file contains several very large keys:
Preferences:129= (41,826 characters in length)
Music Store= (1,722 Characters in length)
Somewhere in these keys is stored are references to userid's, connections or other TCP/IP / internet connectivity objects that are being used when iTunes is installed. By deleting this file, these old setting appear to be cleared out.
In my case, one or more of the keys in this file appear to have been storing a property from my old dial-up ISP connection that was no longer valid for my new, Comcast cable modem connection.
Once I deleted this file, and re-started iTunes, it was as if I had never run the software before. I bypassed the option for searching for and importing .mp4's from My Music, and Itunes opened correctly, with full access to the music store. My library and playlists were intact and all is well.
Apple should re-write the protion of iTunes codes that stores anything pertaning to an internet connection that may change over time. Alternatively, iTunes should either A) Prompt for this information B) Enable user access to this parameter in a settings dialog C) Access this information dynamically at runtime.

I want to get the iphone 5s the day it comes out. Do you think the best way is to go to the apple store or wait at Verizon. I know when the iphone 5 came out here that they sold out at Verizon. The closest apple store is an hour away.

There's really no way anyone can even guess, since we have no idea what sort of stock will be available and how Apple will distribute it. It's not impossible that your local Verizon store will not have any units at all on the first day, or they could have a quantify. We just can't know. If your Verizon store can't give you some idea, you'll just have to make your best guess. Note that people are already lining up at Apple Stores in at least a couple of cities according to reports, and started doing so earlier this week.

"The store may be busy." Always.

I used to frequently get the message "Could not complete the iTunes Store request. The store may be busy. Check your internet connection or try again later." when I tried to get to the iTunes Music Store. I mean, I probably could only load the store 30% of the time.
Lately, it's like 0% of the time. I've tried restarting the computer. I'm using iTunes 7.6.2 (9). Any suggestions?

I've experienced the same thing going back to December 2010 or earlier and have many notes on what trailer links are broken. I've reported this to Apple Care iTunes Division and they don't seem to know what's going on.
One tech, in a moment of candor, agreed that the link wasn't working for him either and that he would report it. Checking back to that link since, it's never been repaired (Tree of Life). The different people I've communicated with have reported it "upstairs", but still it keeps happening, and oddly, it's a frequent problem with high profile releases like Tin Tin or Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Even worse news? The WHOLE theatrical trailers link is now gone from iTunes (unless it's moved somewhere and I can't find it). It's definitely not where it was Monday when I last used it.
So I'd guess that the whole section has problems and they've hidden it until a solution is figured out. I really hope that it will reappear because it's my understanding that Apple Trailers have been a big success for promoting Quicktime and the Apple Brand in general. From the industry standpoint, I've read outside accounts that the industry greatly values Apple's free offering in this area and the obvious publicity the movies receive. I just hope Apple or the Studios won't start charging for them!

I am going through the same process! It is a nightmare doing anything with adobe. They make it as difficult as possible to get a refund and keep asking me if i want anothe program instead of a refund. They are making me jump through all kinds of hoops to get the refund and refuse to call me. They have ZERO customer service and the only reason they stay in business is because they have no real competitors. It's a shame, but I suggest you reprot them to the Better Business Bureau. I did.

HT1040 I cannot upload my iphoto book to the apple store for printing, it cuts out half way through the download. What can I do?

I have made a photo book which is ready now to send to the apple store for printing but half way through the download process it cuts out unexpectadly and will not send. I have printed many books from my computer through Iphoto and have never had this problem before. What could be the problem? I have checked for updates and installed all of them. Turned my computer off and then on again. But still keeps doing this. Help ?

The reason for this may be that the book contains photos that cannot be rendered. Have you checked the preview of your book? Does the pdf look correct?

How do I install mavericks on a macbook with out the app store?

Okay, so this has been very annoying lately. So, long story short, I had to erase my HDD on my Macbook Pro which erased my operating system, and I do not have an OS X install disk. Is there a way to get OS X Mavericks with out having to go to the app store? I'm running OS X 10.5.8 Darwin on a 2007 iMac. So, I do not have access to the App Store. I am only 16 and I don't have a credit card to spend the 20 dollars on upgrading the OS to 10.6.0 Snow Leopard. Is this possible to get Mavericks so I can put it on a USB and install it, or no? The Macbook Pro is just a regular Mid 2012 13 inch with 4gb RAM, an Intel 2.5 i5 Processor, and a 500gb hard drive. Please help, I do not want to have this amazing notebook hanging around that I can not use. Thanks.

If this is for a 2012 MBP, the you can do this:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

I can't open almost any app on my iMac (OSX Lion 10.7.4). Every time I attempt to do so, the app "unexpedtely quits" and can't go further. This happens with iTunes (when I turn to the iTunes Store), MacApp Store, Software updates an many other apps...

I can't open almost any app on my iMac (OSX Lion 10.7.4). Every time I attempt to do so, the affected app "unexpedtely quits", showing a window (sort of expanded dialog box) with the log history, wich form a complete report wich is said to be sent to Apple. Despite that this window has a "restart" button, I haven't been able to go any further from this point, as it repeats the process again and again, impeding me to use the affected app.
This has get to a critical point, as it is afecting apps like iTunes (especifically when I turn to the iTunes Store from within te app), MacApp Store, Software Updates (I can't update anything, given this problem) and many other apps, including Aperture 3, Fusion 4, integrated Dictionary and Wikipedia, as I've been able to verify.
As far as I'm concerned, it hasn't affected apps like Office, Vectorworks, Pixelmator, iDraw, Quick Note...
Can anybody help me on this matter?

Solved the problem. I had to allow cookies for safari and it run - as here: Re: itunes keeps asking for my apple id password. it's NOT entered incorrectly.
