Is the macbook for me?

I know theirs lots of questions like this guys, so im saying sorry in advance!
Right, Im totally confused if to get a macbook or macbook pro? my 12" powerbook 1.33 is starting to feel its age Im a DJ so all I would be using it for would be Ableton and some remixing and producing (when im on the road)and probs email. Most of the VSTs I use have went universal but some havent so I wouldnt bother installing them. Should I go for the 200GB drive? I know this would make booting up slower but what about playing live with a slower drive?
So what do use think, should I go for macbook or macbook pro??
Powermac Dual Core 2.3, Powerbook G4 1.33   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

You have a few options and your preference really comes from how much money you are willing to spend, and is the bigger screen rly an issue. Macbooks are now almost just as powerful as macbook pros, the only real difference being the lack of dedicated graphic memory in the macbook. That being said, for your purposes, audio, you do not rly need the graphics card. If you need the 200gb of space, then you can always use an external hard drive. You are used to using a 12 inch screen so clearly you dont need the 15 inch screen of the pro, and 13.3 inches is probably more then big enough for you. So the real question is... do you want to pay about 750 bux more (the macbook pro is about 1000 dollars more, and then leave out 250 dollars for a massive external hard drive) for the extra stylings on the macbook pro? In my personal opinion you should just stick with the macbook, because you dont need the graphics card, and you would just be wasting $1000.

Hi, I have bought macbook pro a year back and it has 4 GB RAM and its mid 2012 model can u tell me whether if i give the macbook for upgradation of memory will they do it and what would be the cost.

You need to take your MacBook Pro to your Apple store genius bar and check that they will do the upgrade for you...price for 4 GB memory used to be $200 but you will have to check with them for the current cost.
You can also check with OWC, http://www.macsales.com and see what their cost is and decide if you want to do it yourself.  Cost will be about half of that at the Apple store.

  • I dropped my 13" Macbook pro and there is a dent in it. I still have the warranty coverage. Will Apple repair the Macbook for free, or will I have to pay for the damage done to it?

Wanting to know whether apple can repair the damage done to the macbook.

You’ll need to pay. The warranty doesn’t cover accidental damage such as that.

  • Region free the macbook for DVD playing

Does anyone know whether there is a download yet to enable the MacBook to play different region DVD's? I know I can change the region up to 5 times before it locks, but I'm sure I remember there being a program that could be downloaded to make it possible to unlock this before on earlier macs....
    anyone any ideas?

I really hope someone contradicts me, but to the best of my knowledge, there isn't. VLC used to play all regions, but no longer does. As an American living in Europe, I find it incredibly frustrating that I can't play DVDs legitimately bought in America and Europe, and have to make a choice about which ones I can see on my macbook. In a global world, I find this to be absolute nonsense, so if anyone does know of a program to unlock this feature, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

  • How do I partition my hard drive on the MacBook for 2 operating systems?

I am looking to partition the hard drive on my MacBook, so that I can use Leopard on half, and Windows on the other half. However,I don't know how to do this?
I personally would like it to be all Mac, but as my work applications and operating system is windows, I need to be able to do my work in windows...Help!
Also, I am looking to buy a new internal hard drive for my MacBook, somewhere between 250 GB and 500 GB. I wonder where I could get a good quality, and affordable MacBook hard drive from? It must be an internal hard drive, and must be a good quality product that doesn't hurt my machine.
All help and thoughts are appreciated!

As far as windows goes, you need to decide how you're going to run it on your machine. Duo-boot like BootCamp or virtualization like Parallels Desktop or VMWare Fusion. Once determined, they each have their methods for allocation of disk drive space for windows. BootCamp works you through partitioning your drive while Parallels and VMWare sets up a virtual drive in the size you determine.
From experience, you will need less space for windows than you think. I made a 30GB virtual drive for xp and ended up cutting it back to about 8GB.

  • Returning the macbook for a higher level macbook?!?!??!

    Hi all,
I just got my macbook 13 aluminum (2.0 GHz) on 14th April 2009 which was supposed to be delivered to me on 7th April, but because my office was closed so I got my macbook on 14th Arpil 2009. I would like to ask if I can return the current one and get a higher level one which is macbook 13 aluminum (2.4 GHz), as I found that the backlight keyboard is great and I want my macbook with faster performance. In fact, I returned my macbook to Apple before because there was a scratch on the keyboard, and Apple gave me a new macbook 13 aluminum which I am currently using now. So because I got my macbook on 14th instead of 7th because of the delivery problem, base on the 15 days policy, should the date starts on 7th or 14th? And am I suppose to return it and get a higher level one, i am willing to pay more for that.
    Thanks!

You'll need to contact Apple on that. There are a few ways they can handle it. First of all, they usually consider your original purchase date for returns. If you have had yours replaced, the replacement date is not usually considered the original purchase date... so you're likely past your 14 day return period. If they make an exception, as you know, you typically have 14 days to make a return... that return period should commence on the date you accept delivery of the product. Provided you have documentation to show when the product was delivered, they may commence the 14 day period from that time. There is also generally a 10% restocking fee for returned products. The only way to know for sure is to contact Apple. This is just a user-to-user forum and Apple will not respond directly to comments posted here.

  • Connect 2 iPhones with 2 different apple ids to the macbook for updates and backup through iTunes match and iCloud. How can i make that happen?

We have a mac book pro and 2 i phones 4S. We both have different Apple Id's. But we would like to connect both phones to the mac book in order to update photos and itunes match. I subscribed with my apple id to itunes match and it automatically updates apps, music, books etc. However the apple id of my husbands phone is not recognized so his music, apps etc are not automatically updated. The same happens with icloud.
How can we make the mac book recognize both phones?

I believe because you migrated from a Nokia to an iPhone you need to register the Bn phone number with your Apple ID so it can be used for iMessage. The Pn number seems to be the only one registered
    Go here > https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
Manage your Apple ID and see if that does the trick
    Hope that helps

  • Upgrading ram and harddrive before turning on macbook for the first time?

Hello, I'm totally new to the world of Macs. I am for sure going to purchase a Macbook, but I feel it might be better to upgrade ram and harddrive through third party. I have never upgraded ram or a harddrive, but it seems easy enough after watching the video at macworld and reading instructions. My question is:
Should I install the ram and harddrive before I turn on the macbook for the first time? Would this make things any easier? Would this be a bad thing to do?
I plan on ordering both the macbook and the ram and harddrive on the same day. Which is basically why I was wondering.
    Thank you!

    Welcome to the discussions!
I agree fully with Ned. You will want to power it up and run the setup and even do your data transfer and maybe even install a program or two before doing any upgrades at all.
    Why?
Updating the OS tests your Airport or ethernet connection.
Migrating data over by FireWire or USB tests those connections.
Installing programs from CD will test out the CD drive.
You will also get a feel for the baseline performance and have something to compare it to once you do those upgrades.

  • First Mac ever (former PC person).  What book would you recommend ("MacBook for Dummies" ?) for someone like me who wants to get up to speed quickly ?

I am looking for a book - (maybe something from the "Dummies" series) that will get me up to speed quickly.
I expect to use the MacBook for word processing, email and watching and downloading videos.
                            Bob

The essential book is Amazon.com: Macintosh Bible, The (8th Edition)
Wow, Macintosh Bible goes back to 2001 - not sure how "essential" the information is in 2012.  Happy for you to come back to me on that Kappy and justify your recommendation!
I recommend 'Mac OS X Lion - The Missing Manual' by David Pogue:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mac-OS-Lion-Missing-Manuals/dp/1449397492/ref=sr_1_1?ie= UTF8&qid=1328642593&sr=8-1
The books in the 'for Dummies' series are quite good too but the 'missing manual' book is more thorough and goes into greater depth.

  • APOGEE DUET USERS plus MacBook for Sale . . . sort of . . .

    Hello.
I decided on getting an Apple Duet for my new interface. As I only need two inputs at a time, it is a logical choice as it is only made for Macs and I just bought a MacBook Pro with 4G RAM and 2.2Mhz processor. I love this much more than the MacBook that I burned up last Friday. Anyone need a MacBook with 2G RAM and 100G HD and CD/DVD-2L drive? I think that if one is skilled, he or she should be able to clean the coffee out of it and it will more than likely run like new. I would even throw in AppleCare good until Nov./09. If anyone wants to gamble on this, I would sell the MacBook for $300.
Now, for the real business. I would like to know if Duet users would like to have a place to go to discuss the DUET, its setup and functions, tips and tricks, etc. Well, do you want this? I think that there are oly 3 or 4 of us on here. CAn you please email me at: [email protected] and we can try to get together to work and discuss via the net, conference calling on Skype and such.

Hello rahnfromny. <edited by host> There is now a possible solution to your issue.

  • Which has more problems, the macbook or macbook pro

    hi,
i bought the macbook as soon as it came out and had a number of problems with it. thank god for the extended warranty. i thought the pro was much better but have been reading posts that they weren't perfect either. which do you think would be a better buy at this point? i'll need it for internet, email, word procesing, photo editing, video editing and a lot of keynote presentations. thanks!

Neither has more problems. Most people don't see problems with either. Don't let the preponderance of issues on this board make you think either model is significantly flawed. If you are having trouble with your model, work it out with AppleCare or ask us a question of how to isolate the problem you are having. In general, those who don't have issues rarely post because they are busy enjoying their Mac, or too busy to be helpful to be others. So called "problems" are usually induced by users who don't know how to work their machines without causing problems. Video editing is a MacBook Pro specialty more so than MacBooks as you can add external SATA hard drives to MacBook Pros while you can't get the full SATA speed out of a MacBook which lacks the Express/34 slot which can offer an adapter to SATA. If the speed of the video editing is not significant, or you are able to keep your video content within the limits of the internal hard drive space you can have on a MacBook, then you can use the MacBook for video editing.

  • The Macbook Pro: Good? Bad? Ok? You Decide.

Hi everyone. I'm definitely thinking about getting a Macbook Pro, but before I dedicate myself to getting one, I want to hear from you. What have been your experiences with your own, or a friends Macbook Pro? I heard that there were a few heat problems, but then I also heard that the problems were solved; what's the story on that? All together, tell me if you think I should get a Macbook Pro? Is it worth it, or do you not think so? The one I'm looking at is $2,099(1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, 15.4in.), does anyone have that specific model? If so please reply. I've been on Windows for a while, but I'm almost defintely going to get a Macbook Pro, however, now I'm looking to you to decide. Your the deciding factor for me, so tell me what you think.
    Thanks SO MUCH!
Macbook Pro "MBP"   Mac OS X (10.0.x)

Hi everyone. I'm definitely thinking about getting a
Macbook Pro, but before I dedicate myself to getting
one, I want to hear from you.
Good to see you want to be an informed buyer.
    What have been your
experiences with your own, or a friends Macbook Pro?
I love my mac book pro.
I heard that there were a few heat problems, but then
I also heard that the problems were solved; what's
    the story on that?
The story is that some people are melodramatic regarding the heat issue claiming "3rd degree burns" on every part of their body where realistically only an exploding Sony battery will cause that.
For the more serious MBP users, some have experienced heat rash, minor 1st and 2nd degree burns due to excessive use while hot. This is generally caused by direct contact with skin - and generally does not occur when there is some sort of barrier between the person and the computer - such as pants.
Many peoples' mac book pros just get hot when doing major processes like rendering video and audio, and sometimes watching DVDs. These are processes that are appropriate sources of heat. Other users have had excessive heat with regular use like using Safari and Word Processing. That would be excessive heat.
While many complained about the heat, I saw more complaints then I did people saying "I tried to explain to Apple how hot the device is and they didn't care". I think it was a lack of communication to apple of the problem.
Regardless, some people took it upon themselves to open up their computers to check out the heating source, and some found "inappropriate" thermal paste application. Now I put inappropriate in quotes because unless they are an apple technician, they have no right to say what appropriate thermal paste is on this computer with a new processor. Many had re-applied the thermal paste with success and some without. Bottom line is that their assumption was arbitrary, and they should have took their computers to an appropriate technician for evaluation.
Bottom line - case is aluminum --> it is designed to dissipate the heat --> it will get hot at times --> if it gets too hot with simple applications you should bring it in.
All together, tell me if you think
I should get a Macbook Pro? Is it worth it, or do you
not think so? The one I'm looking at is $2,099(1GB
RAM, 80GB HDD, 15.4in.), does anyone have that
    specific model?
You did not make mention of the processor speed, but I assume it is 2.0GHZ. Mine is similar in that I have a 100GB HD. I think you will be happy with the speed of the machine and all that apple has to offer. I have had minimal problems, and the few that I did have were handled quickly and appropriately by apple technicians in store and at Apple Depot all within 3 business days.
If so please reply. I've been on
Windows for a while, but I'm almost defintely going
to get a Macbook Pro, however, now I'm looking to you
to decide. Your the deciding factor for me, so
    tell me what you think.
No you should decide. It's your money, and your right to play with the machine first to see if it's what you want. First you need to decide if you want this OS, then decide if the MBP is right for you. You can have a very similar machine with the MacBook for a bit cheaper, if you don't need every bell and whistle.
Good luck with your purchase, your best bet is to go to a store, grab an employee and go over the computer top to bottom to make sure you're making the best investment for you. Of course we're all going to say to buy one!!!

You need to talk with the tax authorities in the countries to which you traveled and that of your home country. We are all end-users liek you and not Apple agents.

  • Recently my keyboard on my macbook pro died. i backed up the machine to my Seagate 500GB hard drive, successfully, and sent the notebook in for repairs. Now that the macbook is repaired, i can read from the seagate, but not write to it. It says read only.

Recently my Macbook Pro's keyboard failed. Using my wireless keyboard, i managed to backup everything to my 500gb Seagate external hard drive. I sent the machine in, had the keyboard repaired, and now the machine is back, and i am loading my content back onto the macbook. My problem is that the drive is now read only, and i have searched for all the obvious fixes. The lock on the permissions secion of the info block on the drive. (not present). I have even tried disk utility, but all the options are greyed out.
I am a graphic designer, and so i use my external drive extensively to move artwork around, so it is important that i can make it writable. It worked perfectly on this very same machine, two weeks ago, and nothing has changed on the drive, so i can only assume it is a software issue on the operating system.
I have read through all the forums, etc, and can find nothing that works. I am loath to change anything on the drive, as it was working perfectly on this system before the system went in for its repair.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
