Is the Macbook pro lid replacement covered under the guarantee?

I have a smalld dent on the lid and it is just 5 months old. Is there any way i can get it replaced for free/reduced cost as part of my warranty

No. That's called 'user damage' and is not covered under the AppleCare warranty.
Sorry,
Clinton

I had a problem with the hard disk on a 13" 2010 macbook pro. Replaced the hard disk with an Hitachi 1TB disk but when I tried to erase and format, it fails with input/output error and at other times saying unable to allocate memory. Any help much appreciated!

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

A 2008 Mac won't have originally shipped with Lion. You need to install 10.6.8 on the computer, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.

  • What is the cracking sound when I open my MacBook Pro lid?

When opening and closing MacBook Pro lid, it makes a cracking sound. Does anyone have an idea what it could be? It's not the hard drive because Geek Squad ran a test and everything passed.

Try this:  Loosen the screws in the rear of the MBP (by the hinge) and re-torque them.  See if that will alleviate the problem. You will need a 00 Philips driver.
    Ciao.

  • How do I use my macbook pro lid closed

How do I use my macbook pro lid closed?

Well what i'm trying to do is keep file sharing on while macBook is closed so i can access files through "newtwok" (Back to my mac) with my imac...
Ideally i would then control my macBook with screen sharing on my imac while the MacBook is stored behind my iMac...
Somehow it worked before but now it stopped...and everytime i close the lid ..mac book pro goes black screen and completly disconnects from the newtwork...
Everything works fine with lid open..
I am trying to do this because i have a new imac with thunderbold and an older macbook pro with mini display port..and as you might already know...you canot connect these thow devices using thunderbolt cable...which really *****....there is also no adaport enabling this...and i really dont need to buy another mac book that just has one more hole in it >.<
Anyway..hope there is a solution somewhere to keep file sharing going while lid down..
    regards remo

Is glass replacement covered under any warranties?

If you have the iPad 3 and purchased the apple care plus then you have up to 2 instances of 'accidental damage repair' for a $49 fee each time.
If you have the iPad 1 or 2, then no, not under warranty.

  • MacBook Pro shows up twice under Shared in finder sidebar once as PC

This just started today. I have my iMac and MacBook Pro networked through Airport Extreme. Today my MacBook Pro shows up twice under my iMac finder sidebar. First icon is itself (MacBook), second icon is PC. Both with the same name. Get info shows the second icon as PC Server. I cannot connect to the PC icon, which I'm assuming is a good thing.
Why would this suddenly happen, and how do I get rid of it? I've restarted airport, repaired permissions on both machines. Checked to be sure that only AFP is check under File Sharing on both. Network preference pane WINS shows no servers connected on Airport or Ethernet, etc.
    Anyone?
Appreciate any help with this. I'm definitely not a networking expert

Ok, ive had this problem for ages and i think ive pretty much figured it out, your computer is showing your macbook over your network and through Bonjour (apples own wireless connection) Still not sure why it always shows it as a PC though, or as a server...
Anyway, I ive found where it originated from, if you go to System Preferences>Sharing, at the top you will see your computers name and underneath it will say "Computers on your local network can access your computer at:" and its name will be whatever the 'PC server' is called on your finder sidebar, in your case "tosha". You can test it by changing the name to something like "tosha1" by clicking the edit button, in may cases the extra shared computer will disappear, but, after a while it will reappear and will now have the new name. =[
Sadly I dont know how to stop this but I suggest you take screenshots and go to an apple store, tell them about the problem and hopefully they will have an answer for you, they know everything! And even if they dont, check their machines to see if they have the problem, and if they dont, look at the settings and try and find why.
Im sorry I cant be of much help but im getting closer to the bottom of this and im sure its linked to bonjour! Ill keep you posted if anything else happens!
p.s. Im not a networking expert either! Im just as stumped as everyone else!

Take your MBP to your local Apple Store or AASP.  Let them fix it.

  • Can you replace the keyboard of a MacBook Pro without replacing the logic board?

I had a bit of water damage on my MacBook Pro. I took it to the IT department, and he got the computer to work. The logic board and hard drive were intact. Here's the issues I'm having: the keyboard is next to  destroyed. The buttons barely respond, and when they do, it's random letters that type, and they type without me pressing anything. I asked him about replacing the keyboard and what that may cost me. He told me that replacing the keyboard would mean replacing the logic board because they're integrated together, so essentially, that would mean replacing the entire laptop itself. I've been looking on here, and have seen that people offered other uninformed customers to go look for replacement costs for the keyboard, leading me to believe that it is replaceable without replacing the logic board. Can anyone confirm or deny this claim? I would greatly appreciate it. I gave the laptop to the IT department for the weekend. He's going to dry and dry it out over the next few days, so hopefully that works. I don't know what generation macbook this is, but I got it brand new in early October. Thank you very much in advance.

Why? Maybe he's ignorant and/or just didn't care to look into it? IDK
Look at the illustrated installation directions at same site. You may be able to do it yourself.
Overlooking details: with spillage, things can go wrong that aren't immediately apparent. Just something to keep in mind. No one can tell you if that's the case with yours or not.

  • Is battery replacement covered under the warranty?

I've got an ipod touch and the battery is really bad now, needs to be replaced. Under the service page it says that it'll cost me £59 for battery replacement. However I still have my 1 year warranty until May 2012. So does the warranty cover the battery replacement or not ?

    RicardoCC wrote:
yes, it's covered by the warranty
    I'm not sure that's correct.
Warranty covers manufacturing defects, including a defective battery, but it does not cover the replacement of a battery that has come to the end of its working life due to use. I suggest thilakshan that you check this page http://www.apple.com/batteries/replacements.html which explains this (although this maybe the page you have already seen).
Another point to consider; there have been several posts in these discussions about poor battery life after updating the iOS. Perhaps you should check out some of those posts and make sure your problem is not that. After all, if you send it in and Apple say there is no problem with the battery (because it's the short-life-after-update problem) you will be no further forward.

  • Macbook Pro Lid Making Very Loud Cracking Noises

I recently got my Macbook Pro 13" screen replaced for a pixel defect. When I opened and closed my lid, the lid moved smoothly from either position.
Now, it feels as if the lid has more resistance when I operate it. Worst of all, when it is at a 90 degree angle and I slowly retract it, the lid makes a very loud "crack" from the hinge. Could it be that the lid's screws are in too tightly?

You can try a SMC reset:

  • Macbook Pro Glass replaced by 3rd party - warranty voided?

Hi, when i purchased my macbook pro (feburary 2011 model), after some months, i accidently cracked the glass infront of the screen.
As we all know, apple charges a ridiculous amount to get it replaced as from my understanding they replace the entire lid.
I also purchased the apple car protection plan when i bought the laptop.
I had the glass replaced by a professional store that specializes in this for aobut $150.
They just replaced the glass which was the only problem.
Is my applecare protection package and inital 1 year warranty voided?
Are there any markers the appl employees can tell that it has been replaced?
    Thanks in advanced!

It wasn't replaced by an authorized apple service center.
    Just by a repair shop.
The call support center is closed at the moment.
It would be very unfir if the $400 odd it costs for the protection plan to be voided only a year after the purchase making it completely a waste as it adds an extra 2 years after the first year.
So, do you think it would be voided since it wasn't done by an auth apple center?
The status of its warranty online says it is all in tact obviously, but if i brought it into the apple store if a problem
arised, and they open it up for repair or whatever, if nothing was damaged when the screen got replaced, is there anyway they could tell it was replaced?

  • New Macbook Pro Lid not Aligned Properly

    Hi all,
I received my new 2010 15" HR i7 Macbook Pro earlier this month (May) and have been very happy with it up until yesterday when I noticed that the screen lid and the rest of the body do are not aligned properly when the lid is closed. There is an offset of about 1.5mm in the left-to-righthand direction.
The computer is only weeks old and hasn't been dropped or mishandled, so I was wondering where I stand here. It's not a massive deal really, but I feel as a virtually brand new machine, this thing should be perfect. Would I be entitled to a replacement for this defect, and if so, how long would I likely be without a machine whilst I send it back etc. (it has some customisations so can't be exchanged in a retail store).
    Thanks in advance

Hi chapowski and welcome to Apple Discussions!
You are asking questions here which we don't really have any way of answering. Your best bet is to contact Apple ((44) 0844 209 0611 in the UK) and let them know your problem, and ask what they can do for you.
Just FYI, Apple typically does not replace computers unless they are unable to repair them. Since it is not a stock machine, a repair would likely take less time than a replacement anyway.
    Best of luck.

  • Hard Drive Failed, MacBook Pro Rejecting Replacement

On Thursday night my MacBook Pro (2010, 13'') froze and wouldn't respond, so I powered-off using the power button. Upon restart all I got was the Apple logo and the spinner; no matter how long I left it it wouldn't boot any further than that.
Booting in safe mode wouldn't work.
Booting in verbose mode and running fsck revealed several issues with the disk including bad blocks and corrupt data in the journal.
Booting from the installation disk and repairing using Disk Utility failed, as did trying to repair using fsck.
So, I installed OS X onto an external USB drive and managed to finally get the disk to mount in read-only mode after disabling journaling. I was then able to backup my data.
As my MacBook Pro is 14 months old and I didn't purchase AppleCare, I went out and bought a Hitachi Travelstar 320gb 7200rpm replacement on Saturday and fit it without any issue following the guide in the Apple manual.
This is where more issues arose. When booting from the installation disk and being presented with the language selection screen the trackpad and keyboard are not responsive at all. When booting from the external drive whilst the new drive is installed, once I'm at the login screen the trackpad and keyboard are unresponsive. However, when booting I can press C to boot from the CD/DVD and I can hold ALT to be presented with the boot drive selection screen where both trackpad and keyboard work flawlessly. So I can rule out the trackpad and keyboard being damaged. I can also back this up further because if I reinstall the damaged hard drive and boot from either an installation CD/DVD or the USB drive the trackpad and keyboard both work as expected.
I've tried resetting the PRAM; no change.
I've tried resetting the SMC; no change.
I've tried disabling the Sudden Motion Sensor; no change.
I've tried the new hard drive in an external enclosure with a different Mac and the drive is functioning fine.
So I'm totally stumpled. Why is the MacBook Pro rejecting the new hard drive? Surely this has to be some sort of compatibility issue, or deeper-lying issue? I've trawled the internet over the weekend but to no avail.
I'm booked in to see a Genius on Wednesday night but since the device is out of warranty I'm not holding much hope. The only things in my favour are Consumer law sighting it's not fit for purpose, nor has it lasted a reasonable amount of time. The fact that Apple don't provide a list of recommended hard drives anywhere or that the manual doesn't desuade you from manually replacing the drive yourself instead giving you a step-by-step guide.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    -Mic

Try getting the same hard drive as the one you pulled out.
It shouldnt be too hard to find.
As for your problem, I think were pretty much in the same boat. The same thing happened to my computer and all im getting is a white screen when booting from the new hard drive, yet putting the same one in an enclosure works just fine.
