Is the missing disk image stopping me from opening my software?

I just downloaded the trial version of Adobe Photoshop CS5.1, and the file appears to be there. However when i try to open it, it comes up with a window saying, 'Warning, the following disk images couldn't be opened' it then lists the image as some kind of code and the reason as 'error -4960'
Has anyone experienced a similar problem? I need this software asap so any help would be appreciated.

If i am not wrong, i think your are getting this error on your MAC as this is a known issue on the apple community. According to the Apple support forums, error -4960 means your download may have been interrupted due to some reason.
So, uninstall the Adobe download Assistant and try to download the same using a different browser like Chrome or Firefox and then check.

  • How do i find or replace the missing disk image for my HD

How do i find or replace the missing disk image? for my HD ........as it is missing when i try to back up with time machine,
i asked for assistance the other day with time machine
now i have worked out this is the reason i can not back up with TM, due to no disk image in my portable hard drive
I saw a post on youtube where it explains you can copy a your HD disk imag from your time machine back ups enabeling, time machine to back up
But i can not find where the TM Back up driver is situated in my TM Back up's
Some advice would be greatly appreceate   as i am rather new to Mackintosh
    Thank you

    Hi again.
Just re-reading your first post, I wonder if you're confusing a disk image backup with Time Machine?
It's certainly possible to create a disc image of your Macintosh HD and copy it to an external drive.
However, as a backup that method has a drawback; you can't boot from a disc image directly. It needs to be mounted on a bootable system before it can be used. So it's not really much use if the internal HD fails, at least as far as allowing you to carry on working while the repair is carried out.
Much better (and simpler) is to clone the whole drive to the external using CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper (there are plenty of others, but those appear to be the most popular).
That will give you a bootable backup which can be kept up to date by incremental backups using the same applications.
In the event of total internal HD failure all you need to do is replace the drive then boot from the clone and reverse clone to the internal to get up and running again.
Many of us use both a bootable clone and Time Machine (on seperate drives) as each has it's different uses.

  • One of the specified disk images could not be opened

I cannot believe how instable my system is. I switched to Mac to get a reliable system, but I cannot do without Windows entirely, hence my heavy use of VPC.
Today I got the small grey screen "You need to restart your computer". I was running VPC at the time. All apps were closed except Windows Explorer (the file system). The cause was merely unplugging my broadband connection. Wow!
    On rebooting VPC I got:
"One of the specified disk images could not be opened. The disk image file is not the correct file type or uses a file format that is unsupported by this version of Virtual PC."
I "detached" my "drives" 2+3, which were pointing to my Drive2.vhdp and Drive3.vhdp data "drives" and tried again. No luck.
Drive 1 was pointing to Disk1.vhdp, which is a part of my Windows 2000.vpc package. I don't believe that it was pointing there before the crash.
    # side note #
(The Windows 2000.vpc package is an old installation that I don't use but have not deleted. I currently use one called: "Windows 2000 copy 1-011105") which might or might not be a copy of "Windows 2000.vpc." I've had so many problems, it's hard to say.
I then tried and successfully detached the Disk1.vhdp and received a warning:
"The hard drive data previously used by Drive 1 is no longer contained in this PC document. The data has been moved to a separate Virtual Hard Drive Document "Windows 2000 copy 1-011105 Disk1.vhdp".
On examining the above package I find:
BaseDrive.vhd 14.45GB (size about right) dated last night when I last closed VPC
    MainPackageFile Alias
UndoDrive1.vud dated at the time of the problems.
On examining my "Windows 2000 copy 1-011105.vpc7 I find:
    Configuration.plist
    IconCache
    MainPackageFile Alias
    StartMenu.plist
Do you have a suggestion as to how I can rescue my above mentioned BaseDrive.vhd please? This is more recent than my last back-up.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Problem solved.

  • Error Message: The following disk images could not be opened

When downloading the free trial for CS6 for Mac, I get an Error message stating that "the following disk images could not be opened: Photoshop_13_LS16.dr invalid checksum.
    Please help!!!

Is there any messages within the Adobe Download Assistant?  This error can happen if you try mounting the DMG before the download is complete.

  • Warning  The following disk images could't be opened  Photoshop_13_LS16.dr   error - 4960

Warning  The following disk images could't be opened  Photoshop_13_LS16.dr   error - 4960

This is a Mac OS error that it is unable to mount the disk image.
Basic issue: the dmg probably did not download completely or got corrupted during the download.
I think that it might be best to redownload the files.

  • I keep getting this error: "the following disk images couldn't be opened"?

I just downloaded airparrot and keep getting this message everytime I try to open the .dmg file : the following disk images couldn't be opened.
I have tried re-starting my computer and re-downloading the file several times. Airparrot has not gotten back to me despite several emails. I'm really frusterated and wondering if anyone has any suggestions?

If itn won't open then it is a corrupted download.

  • The following disk images couldn't be opened? huh?

    HELP!
I have a MAC OS X and downloaded the Adobe Downlaod Assistant. It's been extracting for over 24 hours. A warning pop up says: "the following disk images couldn't be read." Image: MasterColloection_CS6_. Reason: "Invalid checksum." What does this mean and how can I fix?

    Probably means a corrupted download.
    Try downloading again.

  • Airport disk transfer stops apps from opening

I have an Airport Disk and if I'm transferring something to the disk no applications will open while the transfer is going.
Say I start a copy of a file and then try open System Preferences. System Preferences will bounce in the dock constantly until the transfer is finished or until I cancel it.
Apps that are already running will continue to work perfectly fine, but new apps won't open.
Is anyone else having this issue?

AJA Kona have a utility for testing disk speed. It's pretty good. Enable network volumes from preferences.

  • I downloaded Firefox 4.0 onto my Mac but when I try to open it I get a warning message saying "The following disk images couldn't be opened" What do I do now?

While running Firefox, I got a prompt saying their was an update. I did that, but then got another message saying that it was recommended I update firefox to 4.0. I downloaded it, but never received a prompt to drag the image into my applications folder. I also never saw an image of firefox 4.0 on my desktop. Firefox 4.0 was in my downloads folder but got the above warning message when I clicked on it. I tried downloading it again, but the same thing happened. Now what? It appears that Firefox is still running, although I haven't yet tried to go to another website.

  • Disk image can mount from local terminal with "open" command but not via ssh

I have a disk image "backup_image.sparsebundle". If I go to the terminal on my machine and type "open backup_image.sparsebundle" the disk image mounts as expected. No problems. If I secure shell (ssh) log in from a remote Mac and execute the same "open backup_image.sparsebundle" a warning dialog pops up and states that "The following disk images couldn't be opened" followed by my disk name. This is incredibly odd because it used to work just fine. I didn't think there were any ACL differences between a local terminal shell and remote ssh. I mean a shell is a shell right? Or, it used to be and now it isn't? I'm not doing anything obviously incorrect (to me); I'm the same user locally and remotely, same path to disk image. This used to work fine before Mountain Lion.
Background: All of this started because I wrote a script that would ssh in to a remote machine, open the disk image on that remote machine, mount it across the network over afp and rsync. If I leave the disk image mounted on the remote machine, the script runs fine but if the image is close and I try to remotely open the image as I always did, it fails. The only thing that has changed in the system is, now, both machines are running Mountain Lion. Odd.
    Suggestions?

Storing the password for the remote disk image in the local keychain of the computer running the script (in to a variable), then passing it accross to the remote machine worked. I'm not sure why all of this changed moving from Lion to Mountain Lion but I suppose it is slightly more secure.
To programatically mount and sync a remote encrypted disk:
    #!/bin/bash
    if [ -n "`mount | grep ~/sync`" ]; then
      echo "Already mounted"
    else
      pw=$(security -v find-generic-password -w -D "application password")
      ssh -o ConnectTimeout=1 [email protected] "echo $pw | hdiutil attach /Users/user/backup_image.sparsebundle"
      mkdir ~/sync
      mount_afp -s "afp://matdup01:[email protected]/Disk Image" ~/sync
    fi
    if [ $? -eq 0 ]; then
      echo "Mount succeeded!"
    else
      echo "Mount Failed"
      exit 0
    fi
    rsync -vrxtu --delete-before --exclude _* "/Volumes/Media/new Media/" ~/sync/new\ media/
    umount ~/sync
    rmdir ~/sync
    exit

What is the File Extension of that game file. I am thinking is is a .(DOT)EXE fiole which is a Windows file and won't run on Mac OS X.
If you don't have "Show All Filename Extensions" turned on I suggest you turn it on. It is in the Finder Preferences under the Advanced tab.
Then you can see what the extension of that file is. If it is a .EXE you'll need Windows to use it.
