Is the new 13-inch 2.3GHz MBP Sandy Bridge?

Hi,
While I have been looking with interest at the new MacBook Pro models released today, I've also been looking on the Intel website to get an idea of the Turbo Boost 2.0 speeds of each model, but I cannot find a Core i5 2.3GHz chip listed anywhere!
This is what I have found so far:
13-inch 2.3GHz i5 = Intel ????????
13-inch 2.7GHz i7 = Intel i7-2620M (Turbo Boost 2.0 = Max 3.4GHz)
15-inch 2.0GHz i7 = Intel i7-2630QM (Turbo Boost 2.0 = Max 2.9GHz)
15-inch 2.2GHz i7 = Intel i7-2720QM (Turbo Boost 2.0 = Max 3.2GHz)
17-inch 2.2GHz i7 = Intel i7-2720QM (Turbo Boost 2.0 = Max 3.2GHz)
15/17-inch Option 2.3GHz i7 = Intel i7-2820QM (Turbo Boost 2.0 = Max 3.4GHz)
Does anyone know what the entry level 13-inch chip is and what it's Turbo Boost 2.0 speed is or is it an older i5 and not a Sandy Bridge revision?
Thanks to anyone who can help!

I seem to have solved my own question!
The 2.3GHz chip used is the i5-2410M, and fits into the range like this
13-inch 2.3GHz i5 = Intel i5-2410M (Turbo Boost 2.0 = Max 2.6GHz)
13-inch 2.7GHz i7 = Intel i7-2620M (Turbo Boost 2.0 = Max 3.4GHz)
15-inch 2.0GHz i7 = Intel i7-2630QM (Turbo Boost 2.0 = Max 2.9GHz)
15-inch 2.2GHz i7 = Intel i7-2720QM (Turbo Boost 2.0 = Max 3.2GHz)
17-inch 2.2GHz i7 = Intel i7-2720QM (Turbo Boost 2.0 = Max 3.2GHz)
15/17-inch Option 2.3GHz i7 = Intel i7-2820QM (Turbo Boost 2.0 = Max 3.4GHz)
I do wish that Apple would make this kind of information more available, especially on the newly updated MBP web pages, as it's important for the buyer to know exactly what's been upgraded rather than just saying "up to X.XGHz", as it doesn't really tell you very much!
Thanks to all those that helped!

    Hello
I bought my wife a new MacBook Pro, in setting it up for her, I took her Time Machine external drive to migrate onto the new machine but her old MBP not only was on 10.6, it was my old machine which I was still Administrator for.
i plugged in the external drive to start the migration process after entering her name and username from the old machine which gave me the options on transferring the old data over.
I also unchecked the Administrative end that had my info hoping that ONLY her data, files, etc., would be the ones sent over to her new machine which I wanted her to be the ONLY Administrator for. All went like clockwork until the restart.
Normally the screen should show the username and only need the password but both entries were blank, as in ‘Other’ sign in option available only. I entered her name and password, nothing….used her username and password, nothing. Used my old Administrator name and password, NOTHING!
I tried defaulting to factory settings from the Restore feature but it directs me to notify Apple. I tried in Terminal to change the password, nothing. I tried to boot from MY external drive and it doesn’t recognize it. I tried to even use my external drive which actually has the Mavericks upgrade, nothing!
Basically I can only get the startup screen which isn’t accepting the username/password or the Restore feature which doesn’t offer any options helpful!
Please, how do I start from scratch and start over here? Or simply change the Administrator name and password so I can proceed with everything thats already on there? I wish I could even boot from another drive but no luck on anything!

First, on the old machine, make your wife's account an admin one. Log into it and delete yours. Then, update the TM backup. Finally, use Internet recovery mode, ⌘⌥R, erase the HD, and restore the OS. One first boot, follow the steps outlined in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide.

  • What is the best security lock for the new 21 inch imac?

I want to know what is the best security lock for the new 21 inch imac?

Most computers refer to the locking attachment in some relationship to the name "Kensington", and that might be a useful clue.
Following that, be sure to avoid counterfeit products. A well-known computer vendor (not Apple), was approached by a large purchaser (several tens of thousands of laptops) who insisted on using a counterfeit locking product that had a larger than normal locking tab. The vendor modified the tooling to accept the counterfeit product and, wouldn't you know it, the genuine product would no longer secure the computer properly.

  • Response time of the new 24-inch iMac Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz display??

Apple is not famous for documenting the response time of it's diplays, An exception is the new Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel) which they list as 14ms.
Does anybody know the response time of the new 24-inch iMac Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz display??

Very nice, I've always wanted a bigger iMac and
wondered why they didn't make one. I'm on a G5
20inch now and it works 100% perfectly. BUt the 24
    incher is very compelling!
Myself, never felt the need for a bigger one, the 20-inch is perfect for what I want it to do. Perhaps in the future...
It's pretty obvious why a 24-inch was not offered sooner, as the retail price would have been too expensive to create enough demand to justify production.

  • The new 24-inch iMac

    Hello,
Apple released today, sep 06, 2006, the new 24-inch iMac, that appears besides the 17-inch and the 20-inch models.
The picture of the 3 are the same, but one thing called my attention: the 3 seems to be wide screen, which means that the ratio between the width and the height should be 16:9 (the default ratio was 12:9), but one sees more of the same picture in the larger ones.
    It should be the same.
That advantage should occur if one compares a screen 12:9 with another
    16:9.
To make it worse, I am a High School Math teacher, which means that I know what proportions are.
The only one guess left is: they have different ratios, which should not occur.
I gave one iMac G4 to one daughter, but I never saw the iMac G5 (or Intel).
Or, ... I got one wrong point.
    Your points will be appreciated.

    Hello Mode_Fan,
It looks like you got it right.
Apple played a little bit dirt, making people believe they will see more with the bigger one, but if I got it right this time, the smaller can be put at the same resolution and show the same picture. Or am I wrong again?
Like I already said to myself:
"Lucas, you need to learn about hardware!"
    Thanks a lot!
P.S.B.R.S. (Post Scriptum Before Really Scriptum, expression just created/released):
So big improvements, just 6 days ahead of the “It’s Showtime”, makes me wonder that this thing will be very big, because the 24-inch iMac could be the ... one more thing, that we all missed in the WWDC 2006, one month ago.
One can expect the movie deal and the iPhone and I just want see Steve delivering the news like he used to.
By Quick Time, of course, since he only knows George Lucas.

  • Have hardware problems associated with the new 27 inch iMac been addressed?

I realize that this question may have been answered on another iMac post, but my wife and I thought we would quickly post the following question just in case there are some similarly quick answers:
We are thinking about acquiring one of the new 27 inch i7 iMacs. However, several initial problems have been reported with the new 27 inch iMac, e.g. screen problems, startup problems, etc.
According to Macworld (about 2-3 months ago), Apple finally acknowledged these hardware problems.
How do we know that acquiring one of the new 27 inch iMacs is a safe bet now…? Meaning, have these problems been addressed…? Has there been another announcement from Apple saying that these manufacturing processes/problems have been satisfactorily addressed…?
    Thanks in advance!

I bought one two weeks ago; 27" i5. No problems found.

  • How can I connect an external monitor to the new 27 inch iMac?

I have an old PC monitor that I want to connect to my new 27 inch iMac, it's the latest edition, the one that doesn't have any mini display ports.
All I have are four USB 2.0 ports and two Thunderbolt ports. No mini display port of any kind. So is there an adapter for me? My old monitor can use either VGA or HDMI and I'm not really fussed which one I use. A link would be most helpful, surley that are more people with the same problem.

If the monitor supports vga and hdmi you probably what to use the digital hdmi over the analog vga.  You need a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter.  For this application mini-displayport will work when plugged into a thunderbolt connection (TB is sort of a superset of mini-displayport, the plugs and sockets are physically compatible).
Here's examples of each kind of adapter:
Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt to VGA Adapter

  • Are most people buying the new generation or previous generation MBP?

I'm still trying to decide to go with the new MBP or get one of the previous generation (2.2 ghz) model at a lower price. Just interested in knowing what other people are doing since the new model is out. Thanks.

I bought the 2.5 Penryn MBP and I am overjoyed!!! Three reasons which I have been patiently tolerating for two years since the intel transition in 2006 have been finally fixed. I am enjoying the following three:
    1. Little to manageable heat when using on lap (normal surfing, listening to music, photo editing)
    2. The sound volume in mac osx at level 1 is finally clear and audible...wooohoooo
    3. the battery life is nice...no more paranoia about the percentage icon going down at every glance.
Believe me I have waited and waited and been very frustrated...but now I think we are beyond it.
Thank you apple for a good release...i can now do work without being tempted/hopeful with any and every update. I can now watch the montevina winds blow past without too much angst.
Maybe item 3. (battery life) may not turn out long enough in some time but you know what that is ok.
I hope my happiness and delights are not shortlived:-)))
All the best...go for the penryns...

  • I just got myself the new 13 inch Mac Air.  When I scrol up or down on an Internet page, like a news article, I see rowing, ripple distortions in the document, which causes headaches for me.  Is this a common problem?  Can I do anything to eliminate this?

    Hello New Friends:
I've been a Windows user but my first computer was the original Mac that I used in college.
I just got myself a new Mac Air -- great!  But I'm getting headaches from distortions on the screen when I scrol up and down a news article on the Internet.  Is this a common problem for Air?  Can I do anything to eliminate this problem.
    Thanks.

Is it just me, or does it seem like every buyer of the new Mid 2012 MacBook Air (myself included) has had at least one issue with it out of the box?
It's just you. Remember, there are lots of people who purchase the MacBook Air that are using it without issue. These forums are like a hospital emergency room - the people you see here are the ones that need help. The rest are all out there enjoying their MBAs. Very few people come here to post that everything is working perfectly.

  • Does the Macbook Pro 13" Early 2011 have Sandy Bridge?

I have the Early 2011 Macbook Pro 13" with an Intel i5 Processor. Some of my friends told me that only the Intel i7 Processor Macbook Pros have the new Sandy Bridge processor. Are they correct because the base model is the only Macbook Pro in the line to have an i5 Processor.

It is not stated in the specifications that either the i5 or i7 has a "Sandy Bridge", but they are the current intel processors, and will be followed by "Ivy Bridge" intel processors (assuming Apple sticks with intel for their processors).  Knowing now that our macs have the second generation "Sandy Bridge" intel processors.  More info: http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/03/intels-2nd-generation-core-processor-family-a nnounced-includes/. The first generation intel processors in the 13" MBP model prior to ours is called "Penryn".

  • What's the difference between Core 2 Duo and Sandy Bridge Processors?

I have the BASE model of the late 2009 iMac which is the first of the new edge to edge glass iMac's! (3.16 GHZ 4GB RAM) Just wondering what is the advantage and how much faster are the new Sandy Bridge i5 and i7 iMacs? Would I notice the difference if I were to upgrade? How much?
    Thank you

  • Turning on brand new 15 inch retina display MBP

I have just got a new MBP (2 days old) . To turn it on, once it has been shut down, I have to hold down the power button for abnormally long time....is this normal? You have to keep your finger pressed down on the power button until it switches on (much like the time you have to hold it down if you were to force close a frozen screen). Surely this isn't right?
The mac has been working perfectly apart from this and the fact that on the first day I was working on it, suddenly the mouse cursor disappeared/became invisible. I could still move around the screen but without being able to see where the mouse was. After a few minutes it came back.  Wasn't really thrilled with this happening to a brand new top of the range computer, but maybe it is nothing to worry about?
I am just a bit jittery as my old macbook pro (3 years old) just died on me. Started with fuzzy screen jumping about, then screen split in half and mirrored (left side was on the right and right side on the left) then few days later screen went stripy, then days later went blue (worked on odd days in-between) then finally froze on a white screen and wouldn't turn on.
Going to see a Genius isn't really an option as I am a flight and train ride away from any Apple store.

OS X Mavericks updates the power button behavior on Mac computers.
Using the Power Button to Sleep & Wake
Tap the power button in Mavericks to put your Mac to sleep or to wake it up:
Tap the power button once to put your Mac to sleep.
Tap the power button again to wake your Mac.
Press the power button for a moment to sleep or wake your Mac.
    Accessing the Shut Down Dialog
Press and hold the power button for 1.5 to 2 seconds to see additional options
Forcing your Mac to turn off
Hold down the power button for 5 seconds to force the computer to turn off.
Important: You may lose unsaved documents if you force the computer to turn off this way.
Use this method of turning off your Mac only if it has become unresponsive for an extended period of time.
Normally you should shut down the computer by selecting Shut Down from the Apple menu, or from the shut down dialog pictured above.

  • Installing Windows 7 on the new 27-inch I-Mac

    Hi,
I have tried to instal windows 7 using the parallels desktop onto my new imac. but every time i get towards the end of the installation, i get a message telling me i need a device driver. i can't find the device driver, so i have no option but to stop the installation. does anyone know what i should do ? where do i get the driver from ? is it a mac driver or a windows driver ? PLEASE HELP !!

Ah... I don't see anything 'wrong' with using a VM to try it out and take it for a drive.
Parallels has their own forums. Sun's VM is free and works with 7. (include version of Parallels or assume you have the latest available?)
I know there are some glitches with 7 and the P55 based board, and with i5/i7 (Hardmac shows how they are 2x faster than the old cpus and blow them out of the water).
Was this an upgrade or system builder or full home premium?
But it really helps to say WHAT and other little things like detail. And first time... always a dry run and figure things out for a better attempt next go round.
Oh, and of course it is a Windows driver.

  • Does the new Lithium polymer battery in MBP C2D require calibration?

Does anyone know for sure if Lithium polymer batteries require calibration?

It is best to calibrate your battery every 4 to 8 weeks. Do not calibrate any more frequently as that can also reduce your battery's performance. And no, this is specfic to Apple but with Lithium batteries as a whole.
