Is the new 2011 MBP Hi Res Anti Glare screen actually LED

Last time around, my friend bought an antiglare hi res MBP but found that when he received it, it did not have LED tech... it was LCD like the old models. After speaking with Apple they told him that what true and allowed him to exchange for gloss since the site did not say this anywhere.
Is the current MBP the same way or has Apple sorted out how to make the high rez display both anti glare AND LED?

You're absolutely right. I bought a 2010 15" hi-res anti-glare MacBook Pro and found the panel to be significantly darker than that of the regular 1440x900 screens. So what I did was return the laptop and purchased a 13" MBA. After comprehensive testing, I've concluded the 2010 13" and 11" MBAs to be the brightest (led backlight-wise) of all Apple laptops. Unfortunately, not so much contrast as the MBAs have worse viewing angles than the Pros.
It's hard time information like this elsewhere, but for all else looking for a Mac with the brightest screens here's a list:
2010 MacBook Air > 13" MBP > 15" & 17" MBP > 15" MBP Hi-Res > 15" MBP Hi-Res Anti-Glare > 13" MB
I'm still waiting until Apple unifies all 15" to Hi-Res next year (hopefully) before making the jump.

  • Issue with the display on MBP 15" with anti-glare screen

    Hi Everyone,
my MBP 15" is only 7 months old, so I need to dig the warranty info out.
However, I am curious to know whether anyone else has experienced a similar issue with their screen.  Mine has developed a series of small shadows at the bottom of the screen, it almost looks like a theatre stage!!
Has anyone else had this problem?

Many people have. It's a fault in the display backlight. Have it repaired while your machine is still under warranty.

  • Macbook pro core i7 high res anti-glare screen garbled graphics

My two month old macbook pro consistently (once every day or two) produces a garbled up screen after using it for a few hours. The only way to resolve this is to restart the computer. I've talked with apple support and have gone into the store for help and so far everyone is clueless and offer no real advice. I can't take a screenshot on the machine once this occurs, the picture just comes up blank, but I did take pictures with my cellphone.

Has anyone else had a similar issue and is this most likely a graphics hardware error?

Drm31078, it sounds like you've made up your mind what the problem is and decided to wait for it to fix itself. In light of ryanfitz's experience, which now indicates that the problem occurs when using each of his two GPUs, I question your conclusions that there's a graphics switching problem and that Apple's basic software is at fault, simply because there are thousands of other users with the same machine and the same Apple software who aren't seeing the same behavior. Therefore, I recommend that you run the extended Apple Hardware test repeatedly in hopes that it will eventually detect an intermittent hardware fault, bearing in mind that if there's a fault in the video cable or the LCD panel, AHT can't and won't detect it. And I recommend showing your pictures to a Genius or an authorized service technician for evaluation. A single Apple employee's failure to detect a hardware problem is not conclusive evidence that none exists, and I don't think there's any good reason to dismiss that possibility out of hand on the basis of what you've seen and heard so far.

  • Is there a genuine IPad anti glare screen to reduce the reflection/mirror effect when using outdoors?

The reflection in the IPad 4th generation retina screen when using outdoors or in bright light is very distracting. You look at yourself! Especially if using the pad on your knees.
I have fitted the excellent Moshi clear protection screen, but this does not reduce the reflection. Amazon sell an anti glare screen for the IPad 2. Anyone found one that really works, or is this something we must put up with.

Linehill again.  It seems that many users find the same problem, but no one has the answer! I have been experimenting with some ideas and have found wearing a black or very dark shirt makes a huge improvement if you are sitting down and hold the IPad on your thighs. Try it!

  • Anti glare screen - put glossy glass over it?

    Hi all
I recently bought a 15" MBP with a high res anti glare screen - I noticed that the screen dosent have the glas front "cover" like my 13" MBP glossy has.
Is it possible to put this glass on the anti glare screen? I know that the silver alu frame has to be removed from the antiglare screen. But the question is - is it possible and has anyone done it?
    Thanks Christian

Wow, I've never seen glitches like those before.
When I first got my late 2008 MacBook Pro, I had some "hiccups" with the video card which made it freeze when I used my iTunes visualizer and etc.
Apple replaced the internal components, and so far I haven't had any graphic related problems.
I'd say, Take it back to Apple if you have time to leave it for further testing.
From the looks of it, I believe they should replace the mother board (at least that's what they did for me when I had graphics glitches)
Hope everything works out for you!

  • Performance difference with my MBP 15" 2010 and the new 2011 one(gaming?)

    Hey guys,
I have a 2.67 i7 2010 15" MPB(the higher end model)that I got last year. I use it for work and for college but I also like to play games on it.
I recently got an Apple newsletter as I noticed the huge performance boost of the newer models. I went to a review site and my specific model nearly doubled in benchmark scores with the newer model. That doesn't seem like something that would normally happen. It seems like a rarity thats just too good to ignore. And this summer with the semesters being over I probably will go back to full on gaming(probably Portal 2 and WoW for the summer).
My question to you is, since I can't go by the opinion of one site, what is the performance difference between the 2010 model I have and the newer 2011 one? Basically I am wondering if its worth it to sell it for several hundred dollars less than I payed for it and get the newer model now, or wait until 2012 to get the newest model then(if its going to be an even bigger difference in performance)?
Excuse my poor judgement if I'm wrong, I probably seem like a maniac for using this comp for a year and already wanting to get the newer model. Its just that a lot of sites are making it seem like my model is fodder compared to the newer ones, and if so I might not let this offer pass by.

    bump for good measures!

  • Endless Boot loop on the new 2011 MacBook Air

Has anyone experienced the Endless Boot loop syndrome on the new 2011 MacBook Air?
Mine is the 13" 4/128 model.
Tried the SMC reset but to no avail!
Am I the first one on earth?
    Please help, Apple world!

It's not a hard core gaming rig, but it plays all the FPS games I like, quite well. It handles hi-def video, just fine. I use it for Photoshop, and it is quite fast. For web browsing, it has no equal. The 2010 maxed out 11" would do it all, except for some hi-def video (1080P), which it would stutter. But my new 2011 maxed 13", is perfect for video (1080P=no problem).
I really don't think a MBP will give you as much, on a daily basis. It (the MBP) has only a few advantages, and except for the built in optical drive (which you can still go external, if need be), none of the advantages you will miss even slightly.
I think the MBP would only serve me, if it spent most of the time deskbound, but I would still need an SSD. Once you have had an SSD, you can't go back. Then, you would have a really pricey MBP.

  • New 2011 MBP 13" doesn't want to boot from USB

Just got brand new 2011 MBP 13" and tried first boot from the external bootable clone of up to date system volume from my older MBP - no go at all. It allows me to select the external USB volume to boot from but then it stays on the gray screen with Apple logo doing nothing.
Old MBP boots from the same external USB with no problem, boots as well from the clone of my iMac without chocking. But nothing happens with new 2011 MBP 13".
Both external volumes mount and show as start-up disks, but no matter which way I try to boot new 2011 MBP from any of them it just doesn't work.
    Any help?

What you mean by "too old"?
They don't have the needed drivers, which are only present on the new MacBook Pro models. A Mac OS X version which shipped with a Mac counts as newer than a copy with the same version number that was attained through usage of the downloadable updaters.

    NicholasLiban -
When you use the Lion restore as described, it does a fresh install on the hard drive that you can select at the beginning of the process.  This provides a complete install of the very latest version of Lion, including the recovery partition.  The drive that you choose for the installation destination winds up like what you would have on a brand new computer from Apple.

  • Will there be an anti-glare screen for the new MacBook Pro?

will there be an anti-glare screen for the new MacBook Pro?

    Hi j,
Apple rarely announces upcoming hardware upgrades, so we'll probably just have to wait and see if that's something that happens in the future with the retina line. In the meantime, you can express your desire for one here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • High Res/ Anti-glare display vs. New Retina

I bought (via Apple Hong Kong) my beefed-up 15" MPB with the High Resolution/ Anti Glare display last November and the quailty is outstanding.
Considering the display quality only has anyone compared the two side by side? If so, I would be curious to hear your opinions and thoughts.
    Regards,
P.s I should also mention that I am an American living and working in Sai Gon (aka Ho Chi Minh City) Vietnam and although Apple products do make it here the lag time is several months, hence the inabiltiy to see for myself.

This may sound silly but I wasn't expecting the high res anti glare macbook pro to not have a glass cover over it. to many this might not be an issue, but I need to be able to use a digital drawing pen over top the surface of my monitor. My previous macbook was the first of the unibodies from 2008 and that works fine. But I guess I should have gone with the hi res glossy. So are there any solid screen protectors available or am I going to have to see about returning this computer. :|
Why don't you instead just use a piece of rounded edge glass in the rare times when your doing that?
Your one of the very few that has to actually draw on their screen, most use a drawing pad Walcom tablet, iPad or import a scan or image into Adobe Illustrator rather than hold their hand up to the screen for hours.
Don't you know you can command shift 3 or 4 to snapshot a image of anything on the screen? SnapZ Pro X will record video?
Seems to me your doing things the wrong way.
The anti-glare MacBook Pro is awesome when you take it to various places and can still see the screen and can't adust the enviroment to suit.

  • Does the new 2011 iMac come with a osx lion preinstalled or a osx lion USB drive

Does the new 2011 iMac come with a osx lion preinstalled or a osx lion USB drive

I just bought the 17" MacBookPro the other day with Lion preinstalled and wanted to install Lion on my iMac. It makes sense that I should be able to upgrade for free you spend all this money on Apple products, give us apple supporters a break. Maybe this is something that Apple overlooked and in the future there will be a fix.
I read up on forums and I finally called AppleCare they said that I should be able to install Lion on 5 other computers but only if purchased in the store, this doesn't make any sense. I feel like I already purchased a copy and that copy should be able to be installed on another computer. It should be as simple as logging in app store with the same apple ID and it be there to install on my iMac. If apple is trying to make everything user friendly, device syncying and convenient well it's not; this is just something they think of. I refuse to pay $30 for another copy. Fix this issue APPPLE!!!
Because if those who bought computers in July that didn't have Lion preinstalled can obtain a free copy to install in 5 computers. I should be able to do the same with the Lion that I bought preinstalled it's just make sense to me.

  • Possible to switch 15" Hi Res glossy for anti-glare screen?

I bought a 15" MacBook Pro a few months ago and have found I don't like the hi-res glossy screen. Is it possible to switch to the hi-res anti-glare option without buying a new machine? The computer's great otherwise, but I edit lots of photos and the reflections on the glossy are distracting.

Welcome to the Apple Communities forums. Unfortunately Apple does not offer an after purchase option to change to the Hi-Res Anti glare option.
    You could try the follow
    http://www.techrestore.com/mac/mbp-unibody-repair.shtml
If you scroll down they have a service that for $199 will remove the Glossy option and install a Matte finish instead. This service does not void your Apple Warranty either according to their site.
    Good Luck

  • NEW Macbook Pro anti-glare screen choice

    Hi,
I did not see the NEW Macbook Pro anti-glare screen choice.
Did Apple Stop offering the anti-glare screen option on the NEW 2013 Laptops?
                      THANKS!!  - Randy

If you look at the specifications for the 15" non-retina MBPs, you will note that anti-glare option is available.
    Ciao.
