Is the new iMac retina display color adjustable for photo work?

Upgrading to a new iMac, but want too know about the display. Can I adjust screen for photoshop and other photography work?

Ralph- thank you. Not sure yet about which display to get as I have just started thinking about a new computer. Knowing myself, Ill probably go for the higher end display, but we'll see. Had this iMac since 2008 and its starting to show its age. Also learning Lightroom and want to take advantage of all it has to offer. Thanks again.J

  • How many HD 1080p Videos should the New MacBookPro Retina Display (2.6GHz i7, 8GB Ram, Flash Memory) should run Flowlessly/Smoothly??

    Dears at Mac Support,
I am a Visual Artist, and I use my MacBook Pro for live Visual/Video Mixing and effects. Since I moved to this new club, i need to run all my Videos on HD 1080p Format. I already had the Latest MacBook Pro (2.3GHz i7, 8GB RAM) with the Stock HDD (5,700 RPM), and it performs beautifully, The only issue was Running more than 1 HD 1080p Videos, where you can feel the slowing down of the Videos. The Solution is moving to SSD Drive where I can run 2 or more HD 1080p Videos Simultaneously (Over Layered).
Instead of investing in an SSD, i preferred buying the new MacBook Pro Retina Display (2.6GHz i7,8GB Ram, 512GB Flash memory). Everything about the new MacBook Pro should support my work and give me a better Performance. Unfortunately, I am not able to run ONLY 2 HD 1080 Videos to gather! The result is being Breakdance style video, like it's cutting and continuing the videos. Compared to my Old MacBook Pro (2.3GHz i7, 8GB RAM), on the old one the Video slows Down but does not Leg or Cut
Is there a Solution for this issue? Or i simply did the Most useless investment of my life?
PS: Both Running on OSX 10.7.4, and both are running on the Video Codecs and Visual Performance Software (Modul8 2.6.4)
More Details: Video format is .MOV (Photo JPEG)
If there is any more details you would need, please do let me know.

A faster hard drive connection is available through your Thunderbolt port.  See what you can connect via Sonnet's adapter:
    http://www.sonnettech.com/product/echoexpresscard34thunderbolt.html
An eSATA or Thunderbolt hard drive would probably be at least faster than the internal drive, and an external SSD may be cheaper than an internal for your notebook, and even faster.

  • Before I transfer files from my PC to the new imac should I load office for Mac and parallees? Will this mean I have to open the new account on my imac first and thus have two user accounts when I transfer the PC? I would prefer to only have one account.

IIt was in my mind to load office then transfer. After to load paralels and transfer my windows system. I have a new copy of office for Mac plus paralels PC to Mac transfer version 8. As this is my first mac (I have ipads and iphones) I am unsure of what to do. Also to confuse matters I use a windows laptop as my sync machine for the phones and ipads (i do have a cloud account with backup) can I transfer both machines to my new imac? I will have a 1tb fusion drive + 2tb time capsule although I only have less than 400GB of data on both machines. Hope this is not too confusing for everyone but I am looking forward to sorting this mess out by just using the one machine.

Use the Office for Mac and ignore using Parallels for that. If you have PC only apps you have to run that are MS Windows only then consider Parallels. Just transfer your main PC, using Migration Assistant.  If you don't know how then simply read over Pondini's article called Lion or Mountain Lion Setup Assistant tips and look for the section on migrating from a PC. Millions have done what you are about to, it's far from leading edge these days, if you go to an Apple Store to purchase they will offer this as a service, something you might be interested in.

  • The New IPad retina display

I just bought the so called new iPad last Friday 20 April, and I have noticed there's a dead pixel on it, I went to apple store (the next day), I have been told it's just a small dead pixel, won't affect anything, and no replacement will be given. Instead, I've been asked to claim the warranty which needs at least a week to repair it. What should I do? I'm truly upset by the staff. (ps: from Malaysia)

thanks for all the helpful information, first guy in shop told me defintly came with charger, then he said wasnt sure, so asked his manager who said it definitly didnt come with a wall charger confusing!!
    now sorted, thanks again

  • Brand new imac Retina and can't enter Apple Diagnostics.  Doing it wrong?

I've had various issues with my brand new imac retina.  I've spoken with Apple Care about two of them (Finder icon issue; slow shut down) and we're working through it all trying to figure out if it's software and whether the current beta update will solve the problem when it comes out.  They've extended their 14 day exchange to 60 days for me while we sort it out.
All said, one thing they suggested was to run the Apple Diagnostics by holding down D upon booting.  I've tried running this, it comes to a screen wanting me to pick the language, and nothing happens.  It's like it doesn't do anything upon picking the language, just sits there.
The Sr. Tech I was talking with just said "that's strange" but with other things we were discussing he went about focusing on the other things.
I may try yet another separate call to discuss this with them but I thought I'd check here to see if anyone has encountered/solved this issue, see if I'm going about it the wrong way.
I'm holding down D and I'm connected by ethernet.  This is the new imac retina 5k, 2014.
    Thanks.

That's might nice of Apple.  Personally, I would not be sorting anything out on a brand new Mac.  I would be demanding a brand new replacement.  One that is suppose to work rigiht out the  box.

  • Fix permissions for external WD drive on new iMac retina 5K

    Hello there!
I have an external drive (WD - My Passport 1T), NTFS formatted, has worked (and still works) perfectly with my old MacBook Pro.
I've purchased the new iMac Retina 5K, and connected my external drive to it, but for some reason I can only read from it but not write on it (when I check information under "Sharing and Permissions:" it says "You can only read".
I can still write on this drive when I connect it back to my old MacBook Pro...
I didn't change any definitions that might have any effect on this... How can I fix this?
Thanx in advance for any help...

If you installed an emulator such as Parallels Desktop, it may have bundled the NTFS-3G drivers, Paragon NTFS, or a different program which enables the Mac to write to NTFS drives with it. This program needs to be installed on the iMac.

  • Why did Apple decide there was no need to put a way of securing the new 15"retina with a computer lock?

why is there no way to secure the new MBP15" retina display with a computer lock?

    maximutt wrote:

Because it's easy to cut through, so it's worthless.
This joker here used a too small  of a wire cutter, there is a longer pair of wire cutters that could have cut the wire in seconds with more torque.

Also likely what's been happening is people forget and walk off with the cable attached, thus placing great strain on the case when their tether runs out.

  • When support After Effects Ray-traced 3D the GPU of the new iMac with retina display (GPU: AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB)?

I would like to know whether After Effects CC Ray-traced 3D support the GPU of the new iMac with retina display.

It never will. This is nVidia-exclusive technology and the whole things is deprecated, anyway. You better learn to use Cineware, buy a 3D program like Pro Animator or Element 3D or learn a proper 3D program.

Is the MacBook Pro Retina display resolution of 2880-by-1800 a strain on the eyes as I understand the higher the resolution the more strainful the screen can be to the eyes?
Well there are two or three causes of eyestrain with displays different people seem to have.
    1: Small type/UI elements
    2: Glossy screens
    3: Flicker rate
    1:
The higher pixel rate combined with the display set at the higher resolution is going to cause UI and type to be smaller and harder to see. In fact it's advised to set OS X to a lower resolouton so it upscales better to match the pixel of the higher display.
Reports coming in say watching HD 1920 x 1080 trailers on the anti-glare 17" is best as the pixel content matches the display almost fullscreen, where on the MBP-R it's upscaled and thus looks blurry.
HD content makers are NOT going to change all their video cameras to support 2880 x 1800 full screen, so in order to get a clearer image playing HD 1080 content, one will have to do so in a smaller window.
    2:
The new MBP-R dispalys are 75% less glossy, but not 100% less glossy like the anti-glare models so this can still cause some people problems. This can be lowered to under 1%, however I'm suspecting to do so would be considered giving up a military advantage to China where Apple gets it products made.
    3:
I don't know about the flicker rate if it's better or not on the MBP-R's than the previous screens.

  • Can the new iMac be used as a display for a Macbook?

I have a Macbook Pro with Retina Display and I wanted to know if the new iMacs which were announced yesterday will allow me to connect my Macbook to it and use it as a display.
I know the new iMacs are not retina displays but it would be great to have additional monitor space.
    Thanks in advance.

    Yes, via Target Display Mode.

  • Could I trade or rersell the new iPad for the the iPad with retina display

I went back to the US to visit my dad, and I bought the new iPad Wi-Fi + cellular data 32 gb on early July. I came back to Thailand on mid July and stayed there until now. I heard that the iPad with retina display came out less than a year later after the new iPad. I am planning to back to US around early September. Is there a way I could trade or resell my iPad 3rd gen for the 4th gen when I come back? Thank you

Your only option is to sell the iPad and buy a new one.

  • Will there be a trade-in offered for the New iPad and the iPad with Retina Display?

I don't really understand what's going on. I bought The New iPad in early August and was told that it was the one with Retina Display and it was the top of the line. I cannot find a "New ipad" on Apple's website. In fact, the only iPad with Retina Display is one with the lightning connector. I'm utterly confused and feel very jipped. Can anyone maybe explain to me? Where has the "iPad 3" gone on the website? And will I be able to do a trade for the newest considering I just bought it?
    Thanks
    Kelsey

The iPad 4, which is now also called the iPad with retina display, essentially replaces the iPad 3, which is no longer available except as a refurbished product. The naming is confusing, as both the iPad 3 and iPad 4 had a retina display. The iPad 4 has the same price points but with a fater processor, better Facetime camera, lightning connector, and faster wi-fi. As soon as it came out yesterday, the iPad 3 was removed from the Apple store. It has essentially been discontinued.
People who bought the iPad 3 within the last 14 days can return it no questions asked. There are stories about some stores allowing an exchange for the iPad 4 if you bought the iPad 3 within the last 30 days, but there's nothing official from Apple on that, and it seems to vary from store to store. I called my local Apple store, and they said no, but I'm waiting for a call back from a manager to confirm this.
I think you may be out of luck trying to return or exchange it at the Apple Store, but you can look a selling it and putting the money toward a new model. Here's a link to an article with some info that may help:

Good luck. It's definitely a lousy thing for Apple to do to iPad 3 users.
