Is the new iPhone 4 carrier locked?

Hi guys, i am from jamaica, i was planing to buy one when it comes out... want to know if the new iPhone 4 carrier locked?

You don't have the right to buy service where you want, you have the choice to buy service where it's available. Mobile phones are not a right, they are a privilege. Apple has not restricted your ability to choose... you can choose any other phone you like. Apple is not forcing you to buy their phone.
The entitlement attitude never ceases to amaze me.
Hmmm, with that attitude, I guess you're ok with collusion, monopolies, and anti-competitive practices, right? I mean, companies providing any goods or services should be able to work together and jack up prices, stifle competition, stamp out innovation, and reduce quality. After all, you're not forced to use/buy them!
It certainly makes sense to me to be able to buy any phone I want and use it on any network I want. You don't agree? In other countries, it's against the law to lock phones to providers.
How'd you feel if you had a Honda and could only buy Honda gas at a Honda gas station, and the same was true for all the other manufacturers?
There are times when the government has to step in and correct things like this. Feeling entitled is a good thing.

    Hello Sophie59
You should be able to see two different tabs when setting up the email if you go to Other > Add Mail Account. Once you enter in the email address and password, you should be at the next screen to provide more details about the email as far as incoming and outgoing servers and at the top there will be a blue section to add it in as a POP or IMAP email account. Check out the article below for further troubleshooting and emails setup options.

  • Is anyone having trouble unlocking the new iphone after you lock it?

I was wondering if anyone is having trouble unlocking the new Iphone after you lock it? this has happened to me twice and then I have to reset my phone, I never had this problem with the 4s

Go to expresslane.apple.com and go to itunes/itunes store and billing/redemption and apple ID account billing, and click on send an email or talk to a live chat advisor.. have your order numer, cost, and the name of the item... you'll need to explain in detail. If you send an email they will get back to you within 24 hours. If you chat with a live advisor they will assist you immediately. They are really good at getting you a refund when needed.

  • Im from Spain, but If Im in US and I buy the new Iphone 5, I dont know If later I could use it in Spain?

Im from Spain, but If Im in US and I buy the new Iphone 5, I dont know If later I could use it normally in Spain?
There are some problems now? Or forever?
    Thanks

Currently, the iPhones available in the U.S. are locked to american carriers so they cannot be used with other carriers anywhere else.
An Unlocked version of the iPhone should be released some time soon, though no actual date has been given yet.
The Unlocked phone should let you use a sim from any carrier in the phone and have it work.
However, it is up to the cell carriers in Spain wether or not they have Nano sims for sale to be used with an iPhone 5.  If they do you may be able to purchase an unlocked Phone and use a sim card from a carrier in spain.
Talk to your carrier first to make sure they have Nano sims available for purchase.

If so... who is the carrier..?

  • The New iPhone 4 buying it in America and bringing it back to the U.K

I go over to America on the following Monday, and this would be the perfect time for buying the brand new iPhone 4, my only problem is I'm not sure whether or not bringing it back would work in this country.
If so could you tell me whether or not it would work because it would be worth my while.
    Thanks guys

Save your money. Even if you could find one(highly unlikely), it won't work where you live as all iphones sold in the US are carrier locked to AT&T & will not activate on any other carrier's network. Further, AT&T does not, has not & will not unlock an iphone for anyone for any reason.

  • The new iphone and the contract

    Hi,
i heard that to buy the new iphone we have to sign the contract with the carrier.. like a 1 or 2 yr contract that says u gotta use thier sim card and so on. Does that apply to every country that sells iphone? or it's just for some countries like USA, UK etc.

It varies by country. In most countries, the iPhone is carrier-locked.

  • Which of the NEW iphones is better for travel? which phone (and/or plan) will let me put in a foreign sim card?

Accoprding to Apple's information, all UK phones are sold as locked to the carrier you got it from, so yours is ALREADY locked to T-Mobile (activation has nothing to do with whether a phone is sold as locked or not).
However, it looks like, from Apple's listing, that they also support unlocking, but you will need to contact them about doing that.  There may be restrictions, like so many months under contract first, or a fee, or whatever rules they apply to unlocking.  Or there may be none and you just need to ask them to do it.
Regardless, you need to contact T-Mobile and ask them about how to get an unlock request processed by them.  And do it before you leave - much more difficult to deal with once you are far removed from their network.

  • Why is it I can't just buy the new iPhone without needing an upgrade?

This has been the most bizarre experience I have ever encountered, and it's enough to put me off Verizon and Apple altogether.
Yesterday, I went to pick up the new iPhone for myself and my wife, having gotten and email that we were eligible for the Early EDGE upgrade. I'm first told at the store that Apple is only allowing 1 phone per person to be sold... Ok, fine. So I get inside and, being the decent gentleman I am, opt to upgrade my wife's line first and will just do mine later that day. Upgrade for her goes smooth, now it's time to do mine. Oh, wait, apparently the EDGE upgrade can be applied to one line, and it was just my wife's; a detail that was cleverly hidden at the bottom of the email in black on grey text after all the marketing copy about how great the new edge program is. The Verizon rep tries to think of ways to get me the phone cheaper, but ultimately can't. I ask if I can just buy the phone at cost, and I'm told no because it doesn't go on sale to the general public until later, though no time is given. Again, Apple's rules.
Now, I'm pretty sure Apple could care less about exactly when someone buys their phone if they have the cash to do so, and I'm doubly sure they don't care about making sure those with upgrades can get the phone. All of this is starting to sound a little iffy. Whatever, I let it slide.
It is now 6pm, still yesterday, and we head into Best Buy to look at cases and see if they have a display 6 Plus to check out, as I'm curious about the size. I ask a Best Buy rep if they have any iPhone 6s left; they do; 128gbs? Yup. Silver??? Yup. VERIZON???? Yup. I'LL TAKE IT! One iPhone 6 at full price please! Oh, wait, no; Apple boogie man says I can't buy the phone for full price, I have to have to qualify for an upgrade. (I'm getting more and more ****** as I'm typing this, FYI). Ok, so now clearly something is amiss. 2 different locations- the official Verizon Store AND Best Buy are telling me I can't buy the phone without an upgrade, and both of them suggesting Early EDGE, even though I have the cash to just buy it. I tweet my frustration to both VerizonWireless and Apple. AC from Verizon Support tweets back sayings they should have let me buy it... Wow, this is ridiculous.
Can someone please clarify this: who is correct here? Is it really Apple playing gate keeper and looking out for those upgrade-only customers? Why is it 2 different places told me the same thing, yet the support rep is telling me something different?
At this point I'm just not going to both attempting to get the phone for a while since this has put me off even trying, but some clarity on just what is going on would be nice. Also, please talk to your Director of Customer Loyalty about his team's email design. While I'm fine with finding out it was just one line, (though I would have preferred both since my wife and I have been on the same account since it opened...), burying that information at the bottom of the email is not going to help retain customers. Expiration dates and other terms of service are fine there, but which line the upgrade applies to needs to be surfaced sooner.

It sounds as if you only had one line with an upgrade available. So you can only upgrade one line. For you to upgrade as well, you will have to wait until your upgrade is available. You can check that at MyVerizon. That's just how it works. All carriers and phone brands are the same. I have to wait until February to upgrade. The only thing you can do to get the new iPhone, is add a new line. But then you're paying for a line you don't need.

Re: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?
created by mpa9366 in Using iPad - View the full discussion
Having done a lot of reading today and having found a very good online tablet magazine (will post link tomorrow) there seems to be a few tech bods onto the problem.
The magazine I was reading identified wifi problems within hours of the ios 6 release and have been analysing since then with almost daily updates - the story seems to be:
The apple authenthication transmission is normal, it should slip through event prior to a full handshake with the host network being completed - however if not authenthicated then apple will not permit the device to connect (kills the connection) this is designed to protect apple from counterfeiting. So thats problem 1 if you dont receive a token from apple.
Problem 2 is that ios 6 only supports ipv6 (the new ip protocol) whereas outside silicon valley a large proportion of routers modems etc are still ipv4 protocol.
So youre locked into ipv6 in a world where ipv4 devices are everywhere and apple have not allowed for the ability to handle both protocols. This is like GM telling you your car requires an upgrade, everything will improve etc and as part of the upgrade fits a fuel cell motor and stays silent when their upgraded vehicles are simply parked up because they cannot get fuel.
A very basic expectation would have been dual protocol handling - we know the HW supports ipv4 as all wad fine on ios5.
So its going to be hit and miss with networks - more hit than miss in techy areas like silicon valley, but more miss in places like where I am - a small town in rural Switzerland.
Only apple can fix this with a patch to enable ipv4 protocol handling.
There you go. you just need to buy a new router, I'm sure Apple has one for sale, cause it's not there fault for sure.
Wonder why people start to migrate to other devices ?

  • The new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus DO have differences

I am considering entering the smart phone market, mainly for a portable camera to take on trips.  I have narrowed it down to the leading Samsung Galaxy S5 and one of the new iPhones - 6 or 6 Plus.  I spoke with an adviser on Live Chat and asked if there were any differences besides the sizes.  I was told "no."  However, when I visited ConsumerReports.org, their initial review mentioned two differences:  1) 326 ppi for the 6; 401 ppi for the 6 Plus, and 2) digital stabilization on the 6; optical stabilization on the 6 Plus.  Since I am considering a smart phone mainly for the camera and videos, this might prove to be important.  I am waiting to see the upcoming ratings and review from ConsumerReports.org.
On this note, I would like to make a suggestion to anyone who is about to purchase a new electronics device, be it camera or computer.  Do not go by just what an adviser for the company tells you, but rather go to the retail store, see and handle the device yourself, and have it demonstrated and try it out, taking a few photos if it is a camera, and working with the keyboard and monitor if it is a computer.  (I know Apple has a wonderful retail department, and they are very patient and happy to answer all your questions and make sure you know how to use their products.)  I learned this lesson the hard way.  My PC Tower blanked out, and I was in a hurry to get a new computer, rather than having to lift the 50+ pound tower and take it to my independent dealer for repair (if possible).  I looked for the fastest way to get a computer, so I called Apple, and I purchased the computer over the phone and had it sent to my job.  The Apple Adviser was very patient and friendly and asked me questions about how I would use the computer.  Originally, I was asking for a MacBook Pro (for being able to carry it to a repair shop).  He suggested that I get an iMac 26(?), but when I told him I sit at a student desk, very close the the screen, he suggested the 21.5, which I purchased.  It arrived at my job in a nice box with a handle, and I was able to get it home and set it up, with help over the phone with an Apple technician, so that it was running with my router and my wireless printer.  The problem?  The monitor I am using as I write this at work - an old square framed flat screen - is easier on the eyes than the iMac 21.5's monitor - something I would have found out had I read the Consumer Reports ratings beforehand.
On yet another note concerning the new iWatch:  If you live in New York City, don't even think about wearing it on the subway.  You may as well wear a sign, "Please Mug Me."

"I found out another difference:  The battery is larger in the 6 Plus, thereby allowing more time for talking and standby.  I also discovered that they do not accommodate SIM cards.  Now, I have to ask if they can be used overseas."
"Do not go by just what an adviser for the company tells you, but rather go to the retail store, see and handle the device yourself, and have it demonstrated and try it out, taking a few photos if it is a camera, and working with the keyboard and monitor if it is a computer."

I really don't want to sound rude but wow...just wow...

  • In order to take advantage of the iPhone trade in, do I need to have met my upgrade eldigbility date, or do I just need to re-sign up for a new 2 year plan with the new iPhone 6?

In order to take advantage of the iPhone trade in, do I need to have met my upgrade eldigbility date, or do I just need to re-sign up for a new 2 year plan with the new iPhone 6?

thanks, a HUGE suggestion for you:  Please add that to the restrictions of the trade-in details online, it mentions that nowhere and is VERY deceptive.  Since at least 90% of 5c and 5s users are under a 2 year contract and both phones have been out just a year, there will be a majority of bitter customers who fell for the ad and will be taking advantage of the buy out options the other carriers are offering.

  • Can i use the iphone sim card in the new IPhone 3g and not have to renew?

I have an Iphone now and want to get the new Iphone 3g. Can i still use my old sim card and old contract with the new phone and not have to start a new contract with at&t and pay again?

It doesnt look like that is possible. Here is a qoute from engadget "Do you plan on upgrading your now-obsolete iPhone on July 11th? Great—good for you big spender. Here's the skinny. AT&T informed us that anyone who bought an iPhone after May 27th will be able to swap out their handset with no additional charges for an iPhone 3G. What about everyone else? If you signed a 2-year contract with AT&T when the iPhone came out (which you pretty much had to), you'll have to sign another new 2-year contract to score a new iPhone 3G. The good news is that AT&T will allow you to overwrite your old contract with your new contract. In other words, you're just locked into another 2 years, not 3."
