Is the newest iMac (late 2012) compatible with Lion 10.7.4 ?

This new iMac came installed with 10.8 Mountain Lion. Is there any reason why I can't install Lion 10.7.4 or 10.7.5 on it?

The Late 2012 iMac comes with OS X Mountain Lion, so you can't run OS X Lion on that Mac because of three reasons:
1. It's not allowed by the OS X Terms of Use.
2. The firmware of that Mac isn't compatible with OS X Lion.
3. The hardware of the Late 2012 iMac is too new for OS X Lion (OS X Lion isn't compatible with the hardware of this iMac)

    i buy the new imac,late 2012 with a hard-drive 3TB and i want to change with another hard-drive 1TB....where i can buy?

It's also much more difficult to install third-party hard drives in current or recent Macs than it was. See:
    http://blog.macsales.com/10146-apple-further-restricts-upgrade-options-on-new-im acs
The 2012 iMacs are also in essence glued together and very difficult to disassemble and reassemble. The bottom line is: don't try it.
Why, if I may ask, would you want to remove the 3TB drive and replace it with a 1TB drive? What is it you hope to achieve even if it were possible?

  • Can i install bootcamp on the new iMac late 2012 "27"?

can i install bootcamp on the new iMac late 2012 "27" without fushion drive?

    You have two possibilities:
    1. Buy the USB SuperDrive and install Windows from a disc.
    2. Use an USB drive with the Windows 7 installer inside.
Boot Camp isn't compatible with Windows 8, so you will have to wait. Also, the Late 2012 is only compatible with the 64-bit Windows 7 edition

  • LED Cinema Display (27-Inch) and the new iMac (late 2012)

Does the LED Cinema Display (27-Inch) work with the new iMac (late 2012) as a second monitor, and if so, which cable do I need?

It will work.  Plug its Mini DisplayPort plug into the computer's Thunderbolt port.  No adapters needed.

  • Imac late 2012 problems with motu ultralite mkIII through thunderbolt to firewire

first - hi @all users here in the forum.
i have a really curious problem with my audio configuration. at first i must say the audio-config. with my macbook pro (mid 2010) and my imac (early 2008) works fine without problems by using firewire.
but not on my imac (late 2012). there is a static, high frequently noise on my monitors. and i don't find the reason for that problem. i have delete alle the audio drivers and make a fresh install. reset the nvram and pram with holding the power key and so on. two weeks ago i have contacted apple care and send the imac to the next service provider. first i think for a defect power-supply. but the provider located only a defect ram. they change it and send me the imac back.  but nothing has changed. if i heard about the defect ram from the provider i know this couldn't never ever the reason for that problem.
i hope anyone can help a little bit by this problem...thank you.
    here is my hardware setup:
    - imac late 2012,"27 3.2ghz core i5 processor, 8 gb ram, 1tb fusion drive (osx 10.8.5)
-> connected over the thunderbolt to firewire adapter to
       - the motu ultralite mkiii
-> connected to the yamaha hs80 with balanced cables

the static, high frequently noise on the right is stronger than on the left.

  • Mounting the new imac (late 2012)?

I need to mount the new Imac (prob the 27 inch) on an arm.  I found one reference that said there wasn't going to be a vesa mount.  Does anyone know if it will be possible to mount this thing?  I cannot use the stand.. it has to go on an arm for me.
    Help!!

I was ready to buy the new iMac 27 inch and found out there isn't a way to remove the stand and use a monitor arm! So I am not buying the new iMac.
    Just FYI.

I was just wondering if anyone knows whether eRecord (the Australian tax office's (ATO) free business tax software) works with OS Lion?  The ATO office no longer support the product so I am thinking they won't have bothered ensuring it works.
It is certainly not compatable with Mountain Lion so I would doubt if it is supported under ion also. Best way is to download it from here (only 13.5MB)
    http://www.kilbot.com.au/2011/10/18/download-e-record/
and if it has a cirle with a line through it, as it does for ML then you will know it is not supported.
You can always contact Kilbot here

and ask if they intend to update it or not.

A reply to similar question (Q & As , in product page Apple Store) says:
"...dissable the internal reader hardware from devices setup. Then plug the external usb superdrive and that's it."  Answered by Enrique T from Lima Oct  25 2013.
If you can locate an external Apple USB 'Air" superdrive for earlier model MacBook Air, that should work. The newer one for the Air is the same as for iMac, now.
You may be able to use other brands of external USB optical drive with your older intel-based iMac, as some of them function capably. A few should also be able to see system discs or other bootable utilities on DVD.
    Hopefully this helps.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • My Imac late 2012 running Yosemite does not recognise my Huawei 3g usb modem. itried to install Java bt still it does not although the same modem works with my MacBook pro . any help please

My Imac late 2012 running Yosemite does not recognise my Huawei 3g usb modem. itried to install Java bt still it does not although the same modem works with my MacBook pro . any help please

    Hey there mbarikiwa,
If your iMac still has not recognized the usb modem, I would use the troubleshooting for Yosemite USB issues in the following article:
OS X Yosemite: If a USB device isn’t working
If the device is connected to a USB hub:
Make sure the device and the hub are the same speed. Connect USB 3.0 SuperSpeed devices to a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed HUB, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices to a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed hub, and so on.
If the device doesn’t have a power cord and is plugged into another USB device that doesn’t have a power cord:
Try plugging the device directly into your computer’s USB port  or into a USB device that does have a power cord. You might need to disconnect and reconnect the other device as well, if it has stopped responding.
If you have many devices connected to your Mac:
Disconnect all USB devices except the device you’re testing, an Apple keyboard, and an Apple mouse. Make sure that the device is connected directly to the computer, and that any hubs or extension cables are disconnected. If you can use the device now, the problem may be with one of the other USB devices or hubs you had connected to your computer. Try reconnecting them, one by one, to your computer. When you find the device causing the problem, review its documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
Verify that the device appears in System Information:
Choose Apple menu > About This Mac. In the window that appears, click Overview, then click the System Report button to open System Information.
In the window that appears, see if the USB device is listed below Hardware in the Contents list. If the device appears but does not work, review the device’s documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
    Restart apps:
Quit and restart any apps that use the device.
    Restart your Mac:
    Choose Apple menu > Restart.
    Check your device’s USB connection
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Is it possible to scale down the User Interface on an iMac (late 2012)?

Question for iMac users (late 2012):
I'm considering purchasing a 27 inch iMac. I was wondering whether there is a possibility for convenience of use to display say 1440 px on a 27 inch in a retina fashion. Meaning all 2500 px are used - for instance to display details of a photo, or edges of objects - but the entire UI is scaled down to mimic a desktop that is only 1440 px wide.
I know it's possible to do so on a MacBook pro with Retina Display - in display settings. But I don't know if it's possible on either a 21.5-inch or 27-inch iMac. Can any iMac (late 2012) user confirm this is possible?

    > When you set the display for scaled, there was no 1900 x 1080 scaled resolution?
    no, it was not.
But I will check again this afternoon.
    > Earlier generation of iMacs did have the 1900 x 1080 scaled screen res. option
    I hope so!

  • Will the new iPhone 4s be compatible with iMac version OSX 10.6.8, or will I need to upgrade the iMac operating system?

go to apple.com/iphone and look up tech specs.

  • I have bought a new imac late 2012 and I want to wipe clean my 2008 mac and install Mountain Lion on the old computer for my kids to have

I have bought a new imac late 2012 and I want to wipe clean my 2008 mac and install Mountain Lion on the old computer for my kids to have.
What do I need to do?

Boot your Mac from the System Install DVD that came with it, and erase the HD using Disk Utility. Then, reinstall the OS from the disc. Give the disc to your kids since it must always accompany the Mac it came with.
After the OS installation is complete and the Mac restarts to begin its new owner setup procedure, just shut down the Mac. Your kids can take it from there.
If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store, you cannot transfer it. The Apple ID you used to purchase it is required to maintain and / or reinstall the OS. Unless you want to supply your own Apple ID to your children for their use, they must purchase their own copy of Mountain Lion using their own Apple ID.
If they do not already have an Apple ID and you want them to have Mountain Lion, you will need to create one on their behalf. This does not change the above procedure - just give them the Apple ID and password you create in addition to the Mac and its discs.

  • I bought a new imac running Loin and Office 2011. The server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software.

I bought a new imac running Loin with Office 2011. I am the only mac in the office and the Server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software other than webmail access through our website. It looks as though 2011 is not compatible with 2003 per some searches online, but what are some options I have to gain full access again? I purchased parallels in hopes that this my help and I am able to use remote desktop connection to log on to server but can not drag and drop files I need. There is a shared drive on that Server we all use to exchange files.
The two main issues are gaining access to my email again and ability to drag and drop files from mac to pc. I hope this is enough info to get some solutions.
PS - IT person says my iMac's IP is what his server does not understand so that is why I can not login.

Office 2011 is not compatbile with Exchange 2003.
I suggest you post further Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac software:

You already have the software installed that you need if you have 10.8.2.
If AirPort Utility cannot find the Express, that is another matter. More software is not needed. More troublehooting is needed.
Power up the Express for a full minute
Hold in the reset button on the Express for 7-8 seconds and release
Allow a full minute for the Express to restart
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen
Look for a heading of New AirPort Base Station
Just below that, click on AirPort Express
    What happens?
