Is the Nvidia 9400m sufficient for my tasks?

Hi,
I am currently looking at getting a 15" MBP. Right now, I can't decide whether to spend the extra $300 for a disrete video card. I will be doing light photoshop work (nothing close to 100-200 mb files), probably some work with Dreamweaver and Premiere Pro. I would like some opnions on my dilemma.
Basically, for my taks, should I get the 94000m or the 9600?
Also, should I possibly wait for the new model in September or October? (Or did Apple already roll the update this summer?

As stated by the poster above... the 15" MacBook Pro (along with all the MacBook Pros) got "rev" in early June. With that being said, we won't know what will happen come September/October until that time comes. The machines currently available are fantastic, so there should be no hesitation to shop now. Besides, if you're waiting for the next "latest and greatest" it's replacement is always in design/production behind the scenes anyway.
A few things to consider:
1.) Snow Leopard will be coming out in September and there is a shift in how the GPU interacts with the machine, it's called "OpenCL." We don't know how/what GPUs will be capable of doing with this new design shift and how important (or unimportant) a discrete GPU will affect OS performance.

2.) You're about to spend upwards of $2,000 on a computer that will be the way it is (in terms of CPU & GPU) for the life of the machine. One thing that I think is done too many times is that a computer is purchased for the needs of the user today and often times the consideration is not made for how the unit will be used in a year, two years or even three years from today. If you're the type of person that gets a new computer ever year then maybe this isn't important in your decision making process... but I personally will buy a machine that will last me for a minimum of 3 years (the length of my Applecare) in terms of performance.
3.) The 9400m is probably the best shared GPU I've used for gaming, thus far. But it is definitely not as good as the 9600m GT. With the programs you're going to be using and my understanding of the applications the GPU is not "critical" rather the RAM and HD would seem more important.

YES we are both stating the same thing however in different terms. You will be fine with the updates that you are talking about. Just ensure that the drivers that you are updating match the make/model of your graphics adapter.
If something doesn't work out then you can always revert back to the previous driver.

What is the optimal layout manager for a task bar

Hi all, I am programming a task bar like the one used in windows. On first glance, it seems as though FlowLayout would be good, but I need to be able to add new buttons in between existing ones (instead of just appending them to the end). It doesn't seem that BoxLayout or GridLayout support this functionality especially well either. Any suggestions as to what I should use?
Can I tweak one of the existing Layouts? Do I need to make my own?

After Effects, but be ready for a steep learning curve. Third party plug-ins may be required if you want realistic flow. Schematic diagrams are fairly easy to create with After Effects. I do it all the time.

I was about to say no for Final Cut Pro, because I thought that the shared GPU of the MacBook was the limit, but then I read that all Final Cut Pro won't work with is the Intel shared GPU. Is there a sufficient difference in the MacBook and MacBook Pros that use the nVidia shared GPU to allow them to use Final Cut Pro?

The NVIDIA 9400M that is used in the latest MacBooks is supported by the new FCS. However, at least one of the applications in that suite require a larger display than the MacBook's 1280x800 LCD (Color requires at least a 1680x1050 display). Thus, you might need an external monitor to support everything that is in the FCS package and in any case working at 1280x800 would be a bit painful in FCP.

Does the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M with 4GB really make a difference

I just bought 27inch late 2012 imac. 3.4ghz i7 32gb ram NVIDIA 680MX 2gb and Im currious does the 780M 4gb really make a difference. I do not play any games. I do have 2 27 lightening bolt displays. I do alot of video editing and photograph. I have all Adobe Products and Apple software but i cannot find any where that the GTX 780m with 4gb will be any better. All I can find is if you play games then 4gb is good.

Certain applications such as Photoshop or Final Cut Pro will benefit from the higher video ram, however the GTX 680M is a very powerful card and the 2GB of ram that it comes with should be more than sufficient for most tasks.
Only extremely large files/projects will truly benefit from having the 4GB or ram that the GTX 780M supplies.
The 2013 iMac offers a performance boost over the 2012 version, however the increases in terms of CPU/GPU power are mostly modest.
The Haswell architecture was designed with mobile use as the primary focus and so areas such as energy usage were the priority.
The Nvidia 7XX graphics cards run on the same Kepler architecture as the 6XX cards, as with the Intel CPU the improvements are there but there is not a huge leap forward.

Macbook Pro 2008 hangs when running video on nvidia 9400M

My MBP (2.4GHz unibody) freezes whenever I run youtube videos for a few minutes. Resetting the PRAM and SMC didn't solve the problem. It seems to happen more often when running on batteries rather than plugged in.
This MBP model has two graphic cards integrated. By default it runs on the nvidia 9400m. I haven't had the problem since switching over to the 9600M (crossing fingers) although the laptop does run a lot hotter now and I really don't need the extra graphics boost given by the 9600M.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I don't know if it makes any difference but I purchased the computer from a reseller with extra RAM (4GB total). It has all the latest updates and minimum extra software (it's brand new).

If the video that you have downloaded plays properly, then I would think that the issue is related to your Internet service.
If the video that you have downloaded plays poorly, then I would contact Apple to try to have it exchanged or serviced.

MBAir2,1 NVidia 9400M overheats, solution?

Hi,
I have a MacBookAir2,1 (late 2008) with the NVidia 9400M graphics chip.
Obviously, the computer is no longer under warranty.
Twice now, the computer has gone defunct due to the NVidia 9400M graphics chip, necessitating a solder reflow procedure applied to the 9400M done by myself in order to ge tthe thing working again.
I have installed temperature monitor app, and have frequently seen the NorthBridge chip (is this the 9400M) run in excess of 70 degrees C. The first time it happened, it was while watching a video using the hardware accellerated version of Adobe flash, but after I repaired the laptop the first time, I did not re-install Flash, and in this case, it happened while running little else other than Safari.
So, I've go tthe computer running again, but I'm needing suggestions of things I can do to prevent it happening again in the future.
(1) I installed SMCfancontrol and increased the minium fan speed, but I'm not sure this will solve the probem, as it doesn't appear to increase the fan speed when the computer runs hot; also, it seems to only monitor the main Intel processor and not the GPU.
(2) I read somewhere that some people with older MacBookPros containint the 9400M had overheating issues that occurred with the upgrade to 64 bit Safari, and which seemed to improve by moving back to 32 bit Safari. Can I get 32 bit Safari back on my computer while still running 10.7.x? I guess I could use another browser then...
(3) Is there anyway to decrease the voltage applied to the GPU or to "underclock" the GPU without making hardware changes? I know there are some utilities that will do this for Windows. Also, there is a kernel extension called "voodoopower.kext" that can be used with some hackintoshes to change these settings, but I have no idea how or even if this can be used with an authentic OS X system. Is there another way to do this on an authentic mac? I think this would be a better way to handle the problem than to crank up the fan using SMCfancontrol, as I heard this may cause the fan to eventually die if I run it too much.
I'm not too concerned about performance for this laptop, as I use it mostly as a file server and iTunes / Airplay server nowadays, but still, I'd like it to *work*...

I have to assure an account exists for a given resource. I do provision it with the .tcUserOperationsIntf.provisionObject().
I've created a createUser task to create the account.
The task code checks if there is already matching account.
If no account exists, is is created in the disabled state, and the object state of OIM account is set to 'Disabled' by means of task return code mapping.
If it exists, it is 'linked' to OIM account.
The problem is if the existing account is enabled, I have to change the OIM account state to 'Enabled' either.
To implement this (thanks, Kevin Pinski https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2564011 )) I've created an additional task 'Switch Enable' which is triggered by a special task return code. This task always succeeds, and its only side effect is switching the object status to 'Enabled'.

but i don't know how to assign the parameter IR_SCHEDULE_OBJECT to this method.

Difference between Due Date for All Tasks and Duration per task in an approval workflow

Hello,
I'm starting to read up and learn about approval workflows in Designer 2010. I am confused by the fields "Due Date for all Tasks" and the "Duration per task". I understand that the Due date for all Tasks is the date that all
of the tasks in the workflow must be completed by. And I understand that the duration means each task has x number of days to complete.
But I dont know whey we need them both. If I have the task duration set to two days and there are 3 tasks involved, then wouldn't the due date be 6 days from the start? Why would I have a due date for all tasks that is completely different than
the sum of the duration of days for each task?
Please help shed some light!

task.
Duration per tasks, this setting specifies the date by which an individual
task is due, it’s used for serial workflow participants.

select once at a time(serial) or all at once(parallel).

64 GB iPad sufficient for travel? - Music / Photos.

Hi - I'm looking at updating my tech travel device.
I want something small / light etc that can take around 800 CD's in itunes and also have the capacity to store large amounts of digital photos in RAW format.
Will the iPad be sufficient for this? - Do i need and external storage device to plug into the iPad? - if so, what do you recommend?
Perhaps a MacBook Air would be better suited than the iPad?? I like the idea of the iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard also.

Wow! 800 CDs = roughly 5000-6000 songs. Do you really intend to listen to all of them?
"...large amounts of digital photos in RAW format." How large? Personally, as a high-level amateur photographer, I wouldn't consider putting any RAW files on the iPad. They belong on my Mac where I use PS/CS5.

I have the ZAGG BT keyboard. I am quite pleased with it but I've gotten used to the virtual keyboard and I rarely use the ZAGG.
My personal opinion is that you're intending to do way too much with the iPad. Don't lose sight of the fact that it's NOT a replacement for a computer. If you're determined, then the iPad is probably not the product for you. Go for the MBA.

BADI Impletation ask for New Task when try to active

We have a BADI implementation in dev and it works fine but when we transport it to QA and try to active it the system ask for a New Transport Request in QA. When we made the transport request from DEV to QA we mark the option to active the object once is transported but the object is passed inactive.
So we cannot active the object in QA since the system is asking for new task.
Any advice is welcome.
